Bridge Preview quality is not sharp and is blurred compared to PSE win
I've been using a Mac for a couple of years but to date have been running PSE 4 on Windows but I migrated this to my Mac so have been running under VMWare Fusion. This has been working great and allowed me to get up to speed with Macs gradually.
Now that PSE 8 for Mac is out, I thought I'd give this a try and bite the bullet and swap over to running PSE on the Mac. So now I see that I need to use Adobe Bridge CS4 to manage my photos, keywords, collections etc, as see that there's no 'catalog' in the Bridge - no big deal.
Previously I use 'PSE 4 Win' to run a full screen slide show and sometimes connect my Mac to my plasma TV via PC VGA connector. I was always amazed at the quality of the photos on both Mac full screen and TV.
Now I getting to know Bridge slowly and love the PSE 8 for Mac, however the Full Screen Preview (or Slideshow) quality initially looks acceptable but on closer inspection and directly comparing the rendering in 'PSE4 Win' with 'Bridge MAC' the latter is more blurred on the edges and the colors look more natural in the PSE4 Win.
I have tried right clicking the photo and 'Purge cache for selection' and looked through Preferences and did try enabling software rendering, and re-started but no difference. So now I love the new software but can't ignore the poor quality rendering. PSE8 on the Mac the quality looks better than Brdige (although colors still not that natural), AFAIK know PSE8 Mac can't be used as a full screen slideshow (I can't even find a full screen option)
I running a MacBook Pro new Aluminium for Nov 2008. So just to restate both apps are Mac and Windows are running on same Macbook.
I have attached screen grabs from both (look at the edges of grass where it meets water) - these are at fit to screen resolution (which is what I'd use for a slideshow or full screen peview).
The photo is a JPEG 4.03 MB, 3840 x 2160 , res 72 ppi, application: Adobe Photoshop Elements 4.0.
Thanks for the reply, setting 'monitor size previews' has helped a great deal with the sharpness (surprised this isn't the default!)
Colours are still a little different - difficult to tell which is most realistic.
I have attached a new full screen preview.
As an aside, in desparation I did try out some of photo viewing software on Mac platform in comparison. Adobe Lightroom 2, Aperture, and Picasa all render fairly simarily, however XNView renders very close to PSE4 on Windows platform - in terms of sharpness and colours. I quite like the Bridge interface so I think, I'll stick with Bridge.

I made the instance movie using Pre Ele 13. Finished rendered video is not sharp. Not a good quality video

On what computer operating system is your Premiere Elements 13 installed?
Like all Premiere Elements projects, the setup of the project plays an important part in the outcome.
What are the properties of the source media that you placed on the Premiere Elements 13 Timeline?
What project preset did you (manually) or the project (automatically) set to match the properties of that source media?
How did you decide to export the Timeline content?
Export to file save to the computer hard drive? If so, please detail the settings....Publish+Share/Computer/ then what? What did you
set for Presets? Did you use the default settings for the preset or customize them under the Advanced Button/Video Tab of the preset?
or
Burn to Disc.....DVD-VIDEO on DVD disc, AVCHD format on DVD disc, or Blu-ray disc format on Blu-ray disc?
And, what specific Instance Movie theme did you use?
Let us start here and then decide what next.
Thank you.

Sharper and readable text compared to L220x
Hello everyone:
My L220x is suffering from really bad blurry text problem. I've gone through the L220x threads on the subject, and after countless hours of fiddling around with the settings, I've given up. No matter what I try, the text quality remains *bad*. These TN pannels are no good. Wish I have looked at my friends Dell 2408wfp before I got the Lenovo.. Dell is 1000 better!
Unfortunately, I cannot return the LCD to Lenovo and get a refund. Any recommandations on what's a good Lenovo display that renders sharper more readable text?
Any advise on this will much appreciated! Thnx.Lenovo L220x is not sharp. It cannot be fixed. I'm changed 6 units and nothing. If you like sharp text do not buy this display. Now i'm happy with HP LP2275 and HP tech service quality is much better at least in Russia.

Preview app does not print and freezes
Ever since I installed Lion, Preview freezes when I try to print anything to my Canon printer, and I have to force quit it. I've tried various PDFs and JPEGs, and none print. I get the spinning beach ball every time. All other applications, including Acrobat Reader print just fine. Any ideas?
I just updated the Canon print driver to version 2.30, which (fully) supports Lion, and it seems to be working well now. My printer is a Canon imageCLASS MF4690, by the way.

I am really frustrated that my images look slightly blurred in bridge.
Looks sharp when I open in photoshop, but whenever I see 100% preview in bridge,
image is just not sharp!!!
* I have purged all cache and did a full extraction
* I have checked full monitor size preview
* Check with other image viewing softwares, and found no problem when viewed in 100%
* Waited until bridge loads the image for full view
Is it just me that this happens?do you have thumbnail quality set to High Quality On Demand? do the images get sharper if you just wait a bit to render? what zoom level do you view the images at? what version of Bridge to you use?

Why are my photos not as sharp and clear in online album
I've been struggling thru this make-an-album thing and will not given up. I have continued to work thru this first album to be posted on line. I'm almost there. I've sorted thru the templates and only found one that shows my photos large enough to see and appreciate but they seem to be degraded - not sharp and clear. And that template cuts off my captions to the photos. I just want a slideshow, full screen, full resolution and with all my captions. I thought that was what Photoshop Elements 8 and my Adobe acct allowed me to do.
I take a lot of pixs with a Pentax K20D at 14.5M. I have not been able to share any of my photos, as taken, thru my email because they are too big. Now it looks like PS8/Adobe dumbs they down.
I'm new to this....so what am I missing????
RebeccaGet SmugMug photo sharing. For a few dollars a year your photos will look fantastic. It is much better value and has unlimited storage unlike Photoshop.com and the full screen slideshow with captions look even more impressive on widescreen monitors.
What's more, you can upload photos to your SmugMug albums directly from the PSE Organizer.

Photoshop to pdf creates text and images that are not sharp. Why?
I know that Photoshop is not the premier pdf creation software. I do have InDesign as well, but I'm much more familiar and comfortable with Photoshop (I have the CC versions of both) so I prefer to use it as my design and layout tool.
However, when I save as a pdf the resultant pdf file is blurry for images and text, not horribly so, but not sharp and clear as I would like. My pdf files are for the web and emailing so I need to keep the file size in check, but even when I up the PS resolution to 300psi it still is not as clear as I would like. Still blurry.
What do you Photoshop experts out there do to produce the sharpest pdf possible? Is it even possible using Photoshop only or do you have to use InDesign or Acrobat Pro to get the clarity and shapness?mabehr1234 wrote:

This is kind of like saying "I know that a screwdriver is the correct tool for inserting screws, but I'm much more comfortable using a hammer, so I prefer to just hammer the screws in."
It works, sort of. But the results will never be as good. And you wouldn't want to use the screwdriver with nails, either. There are two different tool (programs) for a reason, and I think once you learn InDesign, you will find it to be a much better layout tool than Photoshop. -
Why are my titles not sharp?
After I made some ken burn effect to my pictures I exported it to high quality Quick time, for some reason the titles I added are not sharp and clear but blurred at the edges what could be the reason?
Also if I want to make a dvd video, what is the actual action I have to do, should I export it to iDVD to get a dvd quality? Are you using QuickTime Player to play the high quality file you created? Is the file you created self-contained, or a reference file? Try clicking "Use high-quality video settings when available" in QuickTime Player's preferences.
Also, as for the DVD, I prefer to launch iDVD, create a new project, then drag the iMovie project icon (in the finder) to the iDVD project window (make sure you have quit iMovie first). -
IPhoto - Sharpness and Softening Issue
Hi, I think the iPhoto sharpness issue is quite annoying as I like to just view the photos quickly in the edit mode and to fit the edit window size. But they just don't look sharp enough. I have tried the trial version of AcdSee for Mac and the preview looks a lot sharper and lively. But it seems that AcdSee is not making the software fo Mac anymore, is there any other suggestion for a quick photo management software that display the true sharpness and resolution of the photos?
What format is that disk?
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. -
Exported files not sharp in LR5
Dear community, did you experience something similar? I have been using previous version of LR and never had this problem. Image is not sharp and noise filter doesn't seem to be applied when I do my export. It looks completely different on a Dev Module. Are you aware? Any solution available? Thanks.
Pacybut wrote:
Thanks for the answer.
Yup .
Pacybut wrote:
I assume soon is not clear when, correct?
Correct.
Pacybut wrote:
Suggestion is to revert to LR 4.4?
Either that or export full-size and resize using external app or export filter / post-process action. It's only the reduced-rez ones that aren't sharpened and/or don't have noise reduction applied.
e.g. you can export via Lr and use Lr/Mogrify to shrink, or shrink via Photoshop droplet...
or you can just use PreviewExporter for your reduce-rez exports.

When taking indoor photos(i.e.: wedding reception) with EOS50D& EFS 17-55mm f2.8 zoom lens,in manual or automatic mode, the shots are not clear, not sharp and a little too dark. ISO1600,1/125th shutter and f4.5,auto focus. Can anyone help me? It would seem for a camera of this caliber, shooting in "auto" would be a breeze!!! Exposure level indicator smack in the middle. Thank you.
Solved!

If you are relying on AUTO to get it right I strongly suspect you don't know what you're doing. Low light & possible subject movement requires a proper understanding of photography & the rules relating to getting a great photo. Auto doesn't do that.
This is harsh. Did you read the OP's post? She/He said he tried it in manual too. The comment about Auto was to suggest that a fully automatic mode is generally reliable for well adjusted images. I see no reason to suggest that he lacks a "proper understanding of photography.." and the rest of the dressing down you offer. -
Preview app crashes, & not detecting sound driver
Hi,
My preview app does not open, and a few days later, Lion stopped detecting my sound driver.
I have logged in as a guest user, and i have the same problem. My hard drive has been partitioned, and it recognizes the sound driver in windows, and when starting up, the sound driver works. Additionally, i tried to do a hardware check, and that fails to load as well ( i tried both with and without the disc that's supposed to contain the application )
Please help.Sure.
Here it is.

Previews in Bridge CS5 are not sharp
The preview panel images in Bridge CS5 are not sharp (almost blurry). Also when I select a thumb and view it using the space bar method (from within the Bridge) the image doesn't appear sharp. Anybody have an idea why? They look fine in Bridge CS4. I've been looking for a preference setting to no avail. Doesn't matter if it's RAW or JPG (same results).
When I select an image and view it using the space bar method (while in the finder) it looks sharp/normal.
Thanks.[I've replied to the wrong thread, but this is still relevant]
The soft previews also affect raw images which have been cropped within Camera Raw. The 100% preview within Bridge looks soft compared to when editing in Camera Raw.
Raw images which haven't been cropped look sharp at 100% magnification, but not fit-to-screen.
The raw files I'm dealing with are CR2, not DNG. However, I converted one to DNG and tried the full size jpeg preview option, but it looks the same. Even if it did work, it would mean converting all CR2 files to DNG, which is a lot of extra work to get round this one problem.
Here's what I'm seeing. They are both viewed at 100%. The first file shows a screen capture of the Bridge preview, the second within Camera Raw. Again, the raw files are cropped images, which seems to cause this 100% preview problem.

I'm using Preview with a MacBook Pro and MacOS 10.6.8. When adjusting sharpness in the Adjust Colour tool, images are not saved. Any hint? Thanks.
I too experienced the same issue. Here are my details:
Recently I bought a 15” Macbook Pro and last night I tried to connect and use a Edirol FA/66 Firewire 400 connected outboard audio interface using a Firewire 400 to 800 adapter then connected to a Firewire 800 to Thunderbolt adapter since the MBP doesn’t have a native Firewire port. What I observed is that the Edirol was not getting power from the bus nor did the MBP (running Yosemite) recognize the Edriol. At first I thought there was a problem with the Edirol since I haven’t used it in a while but when I connected it to an older MBP that has a native Firewire port, it worked normally. Is there a known issue with these sorts of external audio interfaces working properly with newer MBP running Yosemite? I’m hoping that a software update will fix this issue.
