Bridge Stability CS5

Hi. I have tried every possible method to stop Bridge from crashing while trying to view items from subfolders in a folder that has thousands of files. I would like to create a pdf catalogue of all the images in the folder for the client.
I have a Mac Pro Quad Core with 16 gb of Ram with a 3ghz prosessor.
Does anyone have any secrets or will Bridge CS5 be our saving grace?
Regards
Stephen

You really are pushing things to the limit and I don't know how you will try to make the catalog, will it be one PDF file for al 14.790 items... ?
First thing I notice you are caching from an external disk regarding the path shown Computer/LaCie ?
Second you have set the thumbs to process files up to 1GB and you have files about 4 GB in size. Although it should not affect building cache for the rest it may help to increase this setting to 4 GB (will again take more space for cache).
You also might want to try to export the cache to folder for this job.
And you might also want to try to point Bridge to the main folder and then use the menu Tools / cache / build and export cache including subfolders.
It could also be possible that there is one problem file or folder that causes Bridge to stop (not likely but possible)
Smaller file size can be reached with PS in batch, in the action pane; you can record an action to reduce image size and save as jpg to an other location, use the menu automate/batch to set this to work on a folder or a bunch of folders. Also Dr. Browns Image processor might help you with this task (tools/PS/ Imageprocessor), just explore the options (and of course in the action save as new files and don't overwrite the originals) however I think you also have some other files from Indesign etc?. Also a file from 4 GB will probably have many layers. You can produce a copy file with flatten image, you can't see layers separately in a PDF file.
Also noticed you have no custom workspace, not that it should matter for this job but using the folder panel more prominent could make the selecting of the files a bit easier :-)
Last thing, if you already used the purge cache option in preferences means you have already lost your previous cache settings. What often helped me (especially in CS3) was a fresh restart for Bridge. Quit Bridge, in user library preference folder delete plist file (com.adobe.bridge3.plist) manual to the trash and in same library caches folder (Adobe/BridgeCS4 and inhere delete the cache folder (or move outside the library if you want to keep the option to replace the older cache file). restart Bridge holding down option key and choose refresh preferences.
Now you have to set your prefs again to your wishes (max size for thumbs etc) and you can try again. All previous caches and previews need to rebuild, something to keep in mind, although I never made a big deal about that, it just takes time and you can walk away from it :-)

  • Embedding fonts in Bridge (Photoshop CS5)

    Hi folks!
I'm sorry for posting but I still have trouble with creating PDF via Bridge.
I have sveral PSD-Files (CS5 made) using several image- and textlayers.
Now I want to create multipage-PDF using Bridge that comes with PS CS5.
Works fine so far but Bridge does not embed those fonts used in the PSD!
Seems to me Bridge just merges all layers to one pixelbased image and saves it in PDF-format.
    But that's no good deal!
In CS2 there was a much better solution in PS2 allowing to create multipaged PDF with embedded fonts.
Is there any chance to embed fonts with Bridge?
Plz don't tell me to use Acrobat or InDesign because I'm only using PS CS5.
    Thx!

  • Bridge & Photoshop CS5, opening Photoshop files from Bridge

If I open Bridge in Photoshop CS5, & double click on a jpeg thumbnail in Bridge, it will not automatically open the file in Photoshop. Why?
How can I change my settings so that the files selected in Bridge will automatically open in Photoshop when double clicked?

Hi, when you go to Bridge/Preferences/file Type Associations, & you see the box with a list of file formats in bold on the left, you will see a program name or the word 'None' next to each one, & an arrow to click on, to the right of each one.
If you have 'None' written there, it means it hasn't got a program allocated to it, or it may have some other program written there instead.
What you need is to see Adobe Photoshop CS5 in the list on the right, next to every file format that you use.
You could try clicking on the Reset to Default button at the bottom of the box to see if it brings up Adobe Photoshop CS5 automatically.
If it doesn't, or brings up other programs instead, click on each of the arrows on the right inside the box, then hit 'Browse'', then look on your hard disk for the program file for CS5, & select the actual application set up file 'Set-up.exe''.
    That's what worked for me.
    Good luck!

  • Bridge will no longer batch process an old watermarking action that i made it says "place" unavailable in Bridge with cs5, does anyone know why?

I am using cs5 and in Bridge my action that I have used for 2 years all of the sudden says it is unavailable when I try to use the batch process function in Bridge.  I have run updates, reset bridge and photoshop and shut the computer down.  Please help if you have had this happen to you.

That is a very common error message actions produce when  for some reason the document current state does not support the command or feature used in the action step that gets the error.  With our seeing a screen capture of the error message and being able to see the document window, the layers palette and the actions palette   Its not possible to tell you why the actions is getting that error message.  Most likely its because of the document current state. For example place is not valid for a bitmap mode document.

  • Raw File from Bridge, Lightroom, CS5 not show on Window 8.1 OS

I recently bought a new computer with Window-8.1 OS.  Then I loaded CS5, Bridge & Lightroom on.
However, non of the program reads raw file.  Please advise what to do.  Thank you.
    James

If photoshop, bridge or lightroom are old enough, it may not support your camera. A search on adobe's web site will give you a list a supported cameras for that version of software.
If they are not supported, you have basically 2 options
    1)Upgrade your software
2)download the free dng converter and convert your raw files to dng which can be opened by photoshop, camera raw, or lightroom.
Another possiblity is the file it self is corrupted. Hopefully that is not the case.

  • Mini Bridge in CS5.5 opens but doesn't do anything

I am running CS5.5 on a MacBookPro. When I try to use Mini Bridge the little gray panel opens up but there is no "browse files" button, I can't open settings, I can't search, I can't do anything with it! Bridge works works just fine. I am including a screen shot of my MB window to show what I am seeing. I have tried everything I could think of including restarting Bridge and PS. Is there something else I need to try other than a complete reinstall of the App, which I will not do just to get MB to work.
Thanks for any and all suggestions.

I'm back to this discussion because I have never solved the problem. Today I uninstalled and reinstalled PS. I trashed preferences, checked to make sure Switchboard was working (it is), and have decided that my mini bridge extension is broken. Any place I can go to download a fresh copy? The window is dead. Even the settings selection doesn't bring anything up.
    Thanks.

  • Bridge in CS5 Mac - newbie trying to keyword my 4000+ photos

I'm an old PC - PS7 user now into Mac and CS5.  I thought I would use Bridge to re-organize and keyword some old photos.  But I am having difficulties.  The keywords I add keep disappearing from the keyword list when I go to a new folder.  I need suggestions for set up.  Must I put everything into one folder to keep my keyword list available so I don't inadventently make variants like 'graffiti' 'street-graffiti" etc.   I see the CS5 help documentation but I can't find the Bridge help/manual.  Can you suggest a book or link for me or a procedure?
    Thanks so much.
    Diane

Look closely at the keywords in the keyword panel.  If they are italicized they are temporary and will disappear when rebooting and perhaps changing folders.
If they are italicized right click on them and choose "make persistent".
    Hope that helps.

  • Bridge in CS5 does not recognize card reader

Help!  Suddenly, my Bridge in Photoshop CS5 does not recognize my card reader.  I have a HP Pavilion Elite HPE that has the card readers (for 15 different cards) built into it and all of a sudden it will not recognize the card reader drive.  I have uninstalled CS5 and re-installed it thinking that if the path had been broken that it would be reestablished by the reinstallation, but that did not happen.  I have checked the device manager on my HP and it tells tme that this drive is working correctly, but however, it is not evidently working correctly. Has anyone else had this happen to them and if so, what was the solution?  I have an e-mail to HP for tech support, but have not heard from them as of yet. Thank you in advance for your input.

You want to at least choose the 1st, reset preferences.
Purging the cache can solve some problems, it will be rebuilt as you visit each folder.
Resetting Workspaces is probably not necessary unless you have display problems.
To view the files in Win. Exp. you have to open then navigate to the device where the card is being read.
If you can view the card in W Exp then the card works, and you can get photos in Bridge with File/get photos from camera.
If you do not get the auto load window when you stick the card in you will have to look at the autoload optons in the Op. Sys.  Look in Help file for info. on where to look.

  • Viewing Swatches in Bridge for CS5

I have a fairly large number of swatches created in CS3 and CS4 and saved as .ASE files.  In the older Bridge (v3.0.0.464), I could display my user library file and see the colors in each swatch.  When I display my user library in the Bridge that installed with CS5 (v4.0.3.9), I can only see the .ase icon displayed for each swatch name.  Is there any way I can display my swatch colors?  Is there any add-on that could do this for me?  I know I can take each swatch and create a small sample as an .ai file, but that'll be quite a job, and I'm hoping there is some easier way.

    Hi,
If you remember your old post, I can say that today in Bridge CC it the same.
Eg Bridge is not able to show Ase files neither generate the thumbnail nor listing them as document's metadatas...
    Really a pity.
    Have you find any workaround?

  • Exporting from Bridge in CS5

In watching the tutorials and reading in the Bridge helps, it looks like an export module should be set up already in the export panel and we should be able to set up some presets for exports.  But I have no export module already set up and when I try to set one up, nothing happens.  I could use this new feature if it worked.
Any suggestions?  Or is this one of those new features that is shown, but not shipped with this version?
    Sue

Thanks for bailing me out of my "twisting in the wind trying to find a solution" mode. I was expecting to see something this big in the READ ME "Known Issues" section for CS5 as you do with most software releases/update.  Odd that it was enabled in the Beta release used by Lynda.com and Kelby Training trainers so that all of us can discover it.  The Bridge export module was described as one of the most important release features in Bridge in one of the tutorials.

  • When I launch bridge from PS CS5, it opens the CS4 bridge, not CS5. How can I change the default?

I wouldn't normally mind, however I've noticed Bridge CS4 is a lot slower than CS5 and there are minor appearance issues that I dont like in CS4.

Just got a brand new Mac pro, new user account and guess what, same error!
There are also no startup scripts in bridge meaning I can't create contact sheets and invoke error message in PS when clicking the bridge tab in Photoshop.
Adobe am I just unlucky or do you still have an installer bug present which you haven't fixed since last year?

  • How can I move my keyword list from cs3 bridge into cs5 !

I am tring to move my keyword list from my old vista computer runnung CS3 into
my new windows 7 computer with CS5.

You should not have to do this.  Keywords are stored on the image and should be there on both versions.
If one wants to moove the whole list and not wait for all the files to be re-indexed, it is is user/app data/roaming/adobe/bridge or something close to this.

  • Clicking on nef in bridge opens CS5 32 bit

I have Win7 64 bit and CS5 64 bit. When I double click a nef in bridge, it starts the 32 bit version of CS5. Why would it not start the 64 bit version?

Because Bridge is strictly 32 bit and Adobe simply hasn't put the effort in to build a 64 bit version of it.
It's a shame, too, because the 64 bit version of Camera Raw uses multithreading, where the 32 bit version does not, so depending on the computer the 64 bit version can be much faster.
You could drag the files to a desktop icon set up to start the 64 bit Photoshop.  Caveat:  I know this works with Explorer, I don't use Bridge so I'm not sure whether it's possible with Bridge.  The icon's shortcut should point to "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5 (64 Bit)\Photoshop.exe".
