Broken Charger In iBook

The other i realized that my charger got stuck inside of my iBook g3 and i was wondering what is the specific name or serial number for the charging port (the thing you place your charger into) and on average how much would it be to fix it and to buy one

It's called the power input board (or DC-in board).
It costs $145 plus shipping to have it replaced at +DT&T Computer Services+ in Fremont, California.
It's $118 plus shipping at MicroDoc in Eugene, Oregon.
If you think you can do it yourself, macrecycling.com has the part for $14.95 plus shipping.
It can be bought for $29.95 plus shipping at iFixit.com, and they have online instructions on how to do the repair:

Good luck. Please let us know how things go.

  • Broken Charger for ibook g4

So my friend who just got back from basic for AF gave me his ibook g4 only problem is that he hasn't had it working I take a look and find that the charger is broken. Not only that but part of it is still in the unit on the computer. Can anyone help me out here?

It will likely take both a new adapter and replacement of the power input (DC-in) board, since usually when the adapter tip breaks off in the computer, it damages the power input board.
_DT&T Computer Services_ will repair it for $145. Click on the "Inverter Cable or Board" tab (an error in their website navigation, but, as of this date, that's where it is).
    Good luck.

  • How long should it take to fully charge my iBook?

Well, I haven't used my iBook's battery in a while since I found I was just putting unneeded charge cycles on the battery. So for the last maybe 3 months it has been used on and off with the AC plunged in at all time.
Today I took it outside to test my new Airport Express (checking the range) and after about 5 minutes I already got the "you are running on reserve power. plug in to ac" message! The battery used to last atelast 45 mins before doing that. The battery only has 279 cycles on it, which I found means it is coming to the end of its life.
However, I figured I might well run a full cycle and use it until it dies so I can charge it ALL the way up again. So like I said after 5 mins of being unplugged it said I was low on battery power. However, it wasn't until 15 - 20 mins later until it actually went to sleep and shut off. I thought that was interesting considering I was using the WiFi heavily and had the screen at 50% brightness.
Anyways, by now the battery had died so I came inside and before I plugged it in, I found that it was still giving power to the two usb ports as my bluetooth adapter light as still flashing, but the computer was so dead it would not turn on. So I left my bluetooth plugged in, and then tried to further kill the battery by plunging in a USB powered fan as well. I was waiting for the fan to shut off meaning the battery was COMPLETELY dead (wanted to do a full cycle like I said) but after 4 or 5 hours of running the fan, it was still going strong!
By then it was time for bed so I unhooked every thing, plugged in the AC charger and shut it down to fully charge overnight. This morning I go to turn it on (i'm back to leaving the AC in) and it would not turn on? I flipped it over and the battery still flashed one dot. The battery never changed. (the adter light was lit up so I know it was getting power.) I un plugged and jiggle it and then it started charging. So once it had enough power to turn on, I did so so I could watch the battery meeter.
    *HERE IS THE INTERESTING PART:*
By the time OSX had booted, the battery was charged at 5% which is fine. However 10 mins later I checked it again and it was already up to 60%??!?! I then watched it and the percentage of charge was going up like the seconds of a digital clock. It seemed to be chairing very rapidly? It has now been about 20 to 25 minutes and it is reading 100% full.
Is this possible? I thought it would take at least 2 or 3 hours to full charge an iBook battery that was fully past that dead mark. I find it almost odd that it the battery is full after less then a half hour.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!
    Scott

What happens is that the weaker the battery, the less time it takes it to charge (and run down) because it doesn't take long to reach its lowered maximum capacity.
Although I never worry about my battery and leave my portables plugged in most of the time, that isn't necessarily the best thing for the battery.

  • Charges for iBooks Author Developers

    Dear All,
How do I charge my iBooks Auhtor Developers and How do I price my book ??
    Here are the details below:
VOLUME: I have volume of about 20 Maths and Science Books each books has a pages of about (~300-375) which are Print PDF.
PROCESS:  Planned to recreate them using iBook Author by flowing page by page ( I don't see any better process to automate the PDF content to flow with in  iBooks Author).
ENHANCEMENT: Using best designer/content presenter to add widgets.
HTML 5:  Adding best interactivity function using HTML 5.
ESTIMATED PROJECTION & PRICING: I usually charge Per Hr for programmer, developer and designer for which my competition charging in Pages; so this time I am planning to charge by per page(Print PDF) development - total page goes about 375 page X 20 books = 7500 Pages.  Whole project comes to around USD 93000.00 ( USD 12.5/page) in 25 Working days.
Please advice. Either I need to redefine Process or Pricing – Else the estimation is Okay.
And Kindly let me know the price for my Apple text books(375 pages[Math or Scienc]).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

USD $12.50/pg for an interactive math/science book ($3750.00) seems low. An iOS App with that much content could cost from three to +five times that amount... If you are looking at a project with multiple books, it might be fair - round up to $100k.

  • First charging the iBook problem

I got my new iBook today but my mom opened the package because she was curious and when opening she accidentally pressed a little button the battery. But then she saw that the button made more light burn so she pressed it a couple of times.
And I have heard that I have to charge my iBook the first time I before I start it but now after 10 seconds the light on the plug flashed a couple of times from orange to green and now it stays green. Is there something wrong and if so, how can I fix it?
    Apple iBook   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   12-inch, 1.33 GHz

Hi Matthew and welcome to Apple's Discussions.
Your mother won't have done any harm by pressing those buttons, they are just a visual display of the remaining charge in the battery without having to boot the iBook up.
It is possible that the battery is already charged. How many lights light up when you press the button? What does the icon in the toolbar say?
Have a look Here for further advice.
Have fun with your new iBook!

  • How to remove a broken charger nib from my iPad?

How to remove a broken charger nib from an iPad?
    <Email Edited by Host>

Was it the old 30-pin connector, or the new Lightning plug? There have been sporadic reports of the new connector snapping just ahead of the two side "dimples" that are used to hold it in place, but this would be the first time I hear of similar failure on the older and bigger connectors.
If at all possible, I would suggest a visit to an Apple Store for free assessment. Else proceed with caution either with tweezers and/or a pin to nudge the fragments out. Maybe a review of the corresponding teardown of your model at IFixIt.com may help you visualize how to attack the problem.

  • Will Apple replace an iPod with broken charging port

My daughter has had her iPod for a year will Apple Repair or replace an iPod with broken charging port.

If still under warranty, Apple frequently says the damage is caused by operator error and would only be covered by an Applecare+ extended warranty.
Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for $199 for 64 GB 4G and $99 for the other 4Gs They do not fix yours.

  • Battery doesn't charge but ibook still runs on ac?

I've got a 2004 iBook G4 1.0ghz processor 1.25gb ram. Had it 16 months, no problems so far until today.
When I plug in the AC the laptop runs off this power- the battery symbol changes to show the power plugs- but the battery does not charge. It stays at 49%, no matter how long I wait. I tried inserting my backup battery and it doesn't charge either, it just stays at 26%. The laptop will run off the battery if it needs to, I just can't get any more power into the battery itself. And the leds in the adaptor do not change colour anymore, they are always out. Applecare recommended a PMU reset, which I did, but nothing changed. Next recommendation was to take it in to the shop. I'm hesitant because my original iBook never really came back from the shop... it had 3 logicboard failures and a hard drive failure in the first 90 days. My current iBook is a replacement. Hopefully this is not logicboard as well. If there's anyone out there who has experienced something similar and has some non-invasive advice please help! Thanks.

Same here with my AT270 bought in January 2013. The tablet does not load and remains on the screen with the red battery without recharging.
Even powered on, the tablet does not charge.
I am looking for a replacement battery, but the one I found on the web are more than 50€ would you have a better price?
    Thank you in advance.

  • Something's broken in my iBook...?

    Hey everyone.
Something weird happened yesterday, when I turned my iBook on.
It has been working perfectly until yesterday, but then.....after I logged in, the screen turned all white and some horizental lines in multiple colors appeared across the screen. And the iBook was completely frozen. The only way I could turn it off was to hold down the power button for about 5 secs.
I waited a couple of minutes and turned it on again. Same thing happened, but this time the screen didn't turn all white. The lines across the screen appeared again, but I could see my desktop in the background. But it was completely frozen again.
So I turned it off again. When I turned it on again I was booting from the installer CD (I wanted to use the repair disc tool on it). But this time the screen didn't turn on at all. And it won't eject my CD, so it's stuck in there.
I've tried to turn it on a few times since, but the screen is still not on. The wierd thing is, you can hear the computer is turned on. But you can't shut it down in any way. the ONLY way I can get it to shut down is to remove the power cable and the battery...
I bought my iBook from the this site in Dec. 2004. And I had my Logic Board replaced in May. So I'm wondering if the Logic board is broken again, as that seems to be a common problem with these iBooks...??
I don't have an Apple Care Protection Plan. So is it even worth spending the money to get it fixed...??
In case not, I'm thinking about getting another Mac. But not a labtop. I'm really disappointed in what got from spending so many money on an iBook.
Any help really appreciated. I really don't want to spend $100 just to get someone to look at it, and tell me it'll cost atleast $800 to fix it.
So if anyone of you have an idea of what's wrong, I'l be glad to hear it.
    iBook G4/768/60GB   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    Thanks for the replies!
I've tried connecting another monitor using the adapter that follows, but nothing happened - that screen remain black as well as the iBook screen.
Also, there's light in the Apple logo on the back of the iBook, and it doesn't go to sleep when I close it.
I noticed last night, that the 'num lock' key that is supposed to be on F6(I believe) has been moved to F5 (which was supposed to turn the volume up). According to the little green light, anyway...
I called a danish company (where I live) about replacing the Logic Board, but that's very expensive. I'd rather get a new computer instead. Unfortunately, I don't have an Apple Care Protection Plan.
Anyways, thanks for your help - much appreciated.

  • Broken Charger - Genius Bar Appointment

I had had my mac for about 18 months and I have apple care. The charger has frayed and no longer works, I have a genius bar appoitment tomorrow on my break from work. I have been told to bring both the charger and laptop, however I am wary of doing so as we do not have secure lockers at work. Can I just take the charger? Nikki

That is not a question we can answer here, since we are all Apple users / customers like you. But the request seems to be reasonable.
Your computer is necessary to establish the warranty coverage. And obviously since it is broken, the charger is necessary. Personally I see no way out of taking them both in.

  • Broken Charger 3 months old!

I use AT&T. My cable is broken and wont charge my phone. Does anyone know if AT&T will replace my cable or do i have to deal with Apple? I live in podunk no where and we dont have an Apple store anywhere near us and i can't wait to do anything online..

The only way to find out is to contact AT&T. Apple will replace it for free, but if you can't wait, then your only option is to find out from AT&T whether they will replace it or not. We wouldn't be able to tell you that....
    Cheers,

  • Broken charger socket

The standard chárter socket en muy playbook es broken. Can i recharge using the micro USB and if so which one¿ I cannot find a brand ro fit. Thanks

The port in the middle is the microUSB. The other port that looks similar to a microUSB port is an HDMI output. You can't charge from that. The third port with the three contacts is for the magnetic rapid charger. That is the port I recommend using to charge a playbook as it results in less wear and tear. Unfortunately, you need to purchase the rapid charger separately.

  • Broken Charging Port

    Hi,
I am with Bell. Last year i had boughten my first bb in April, a blackberry Style.
Four months later the charging port broke. First it started off that I needed to have the cable on a certain angle to charge then it stopped working altogether.
I sent my phone away to be repaired and it was returned "un repairable" and "damage was caused due to dropping" which was absolutely not true being that I am incredibly careful with my devices and I kept a hard case on it that I went to the states specifically for and also only had it for 4 months!
Needless to say I was furious with this answer, especially since Blackberry or Bell did notthing but tell me I needed to buy a new one because it was not covered in my warranty.
After my contract is up with Bell I will be switching to Rogers and possibly switching to Team IPhone (unfortunately) if i cannot find a good blackberry or a solution to my broken BB Style.
    Someone help me.

Our BB Style had this same problem. We went to the store and were told it was probably corrosion in the battery terminal but because it was a BB it couldn't even be looked at in store and had to be sent out and would cost at least $100 to fix (even thought we pay Sprint $8/month for insurance).
They were so interested in discouraging us to get it fixed and telling us that if it were water or something we would have to pay the full replacement value ($600) for the phone. He kept trying to sell us a new iPhone and their were no other BB phones to even demo in the store.
We went to a Radio Shack and wound up getting a lower price iPhone but are upset that BB wasn't represented in almost any store and were told our insurance was worthless.
Is this the type of relationship BB wants with its field sales force?
Hi and Welcome to the Community!
It does sound like whoever you spoke to was very poorly trained. But do be advised that the shop you went to was not a RIM store...it was a Sprint store, and they are a separate entity from RIM. They contract to sell BBs and BB services, but they are not RIM. So, it sounds like, if you wish to pursue a complaint path, that path would be with Sprint, would it not?
But, perhaps you wish for RIM to notice this issue...if that's your goal, I hope it's attained here. Just be aware that these forums are a user-to-user community, not a user-to/from-RIM formal communication channel.
    Good luck!
