Broken network?

My nforce 420D is still causing troubles with networking... it keeps dropping out and there are alot of performance issues as well.
Is there work around for this issue?
Thanks

I had this problem when I got my nforce board too. Turns out that the nforce NIC doesnt work and play well with some of the older hubs and routers. I picked up a $10 PCI NIC to handle traffic til I pony up for a new router. The nForce NIC does work just fine with my cable modem though, so no worries there. It also ran very nicely at my friends house. He has a bright shiny new network outfit. Another thing to do is make sure your MAC address on your motherboard wasnt accidently wiped if you upgraded your BIOS to 2.4 using one of the older BIOS utilities. Try doing an ipconfig command in a DOS window and make sure the physical address isn't all 0s. Also try using the nForce NIC to connect to the Net and the other NIC to connect to your local area network.

  • Broken network alias/Weird netstat results

    After working fine for months, all of a sudden I can't connect to one particular system I have on my home network (it is a network attached storage device). The problem is only from one machine (I have 2 other Macs and they work fine). I also have other systems (including another identical storage device) that all still work fine. My network alias links for this device complain that they are broken. I can't connect regardless of the protocol I use -- SMB, FTP or HTTP. I can't even ping it as I get "no route to host".
    I changed the IP address of the system to see if I could get around it that way -- no good. I checked the network tables (netstat -rn) and found that there are some curious entries for that device both before/after I changed its IP address:
    192.168.1.10 127.0.0.1 UHS 0 0 lo0
    192.168.1.15 link#4 UHLW 0 9 en0
    These appear to be static routes stuck in the routing table that give erroneous routing information on how to travel to my storage device. Any idea how I get rid of these entries as, it seems, they are the key to solving the issues I'm seeing?

    You can use the route command to manipulate your routing tables.
    sudo route delete 192.168.0.10
    Or you can flush them all with route flush but you'd better be prepared to add the default gateway back (e.g. sudo route add default 192.168.0.1).
    But that's more informational than anything, 'cause I don't think that will solve your problem. Something's advertising those routes and they'll probably show right back up. Maybe I'm wrong, give it a try.

  • Socket doen't detect broken network.

    the following server program just keeps on running when I unplug the clients network kabel. (client is just a telnet)
    If I send to the socket outputstream he doesn't detect the broken link.
    jdk 1.4.1
    linux.
    java.net.ServerSocket serverSocket= new java.net.ServerSocket(3201);
    java.net.Socket socket = serverSocket.accept();
    java.io.DataOutputStream lS = new java.io.DataOutputStream(socket.getOutputStream());
    while(true)
    lS.writeUTF("test");
    lS.flush();
    System.out.println("testing");
    Thread.sleep(1000);
    }

    yep, pain in the neck isnt it...
    reason is that TCP/IP is not a permanent type of connection, rather a serise of packets between 2 sockets, if you terminate the connection "properly" then an EOF is sent by the closing Socket, if however there is a network failure then it can never be recieved The expected work around is with Socket.setSO_TIMEOUT, but this has been reported to be unreliable and the standard method for detecting a broken connection is to write your own timeout and either close the socket, or attempt to write something to it (which will throw an IOException) if it has failed

  • Broken networking ?

    Hello,
    I have been using Arch on my laptop since Januray with no major problem. Till sunday still it was all good, but I have moved in a new flat with a cable modem I can't use with Arch it seems...
    It's plugged on the same ethernet NIC I was using before but now it does not work.
    When I start the network deamon it does not even bring the interface in the end (but if I check while it's trying, I can see my interface with ifconfig). I have no ip, or else ...
    The only messages I'm getting are :
    dmesg :
    eth1: Broadcom ...
    b44: eth1: Link is up at 100Mbps, full duplex
    b44: eth1: Flow control is off for TX and off for RX.
    and in everything.log, the same plus :
    dhcpd[4022]: timed out waiting for a valid DHCP server response
    dhcpd[4028]: dhcpStart: interface ethx is not Ethernet or 802.2 Token Ring
    dhcpd[4033]: timed out waiting for a valid DHCP server response
    in rc.conf I have :
    ethx="dhcp"
    interfaces=(lo ethx)
    and I tried to play with ROUTE but it does not help.
    I deactivated HAL, DBUS, and the eth1394 module with still no luck. I don't understand I was using ethernet till sunday with no problem, and now I'm sending you this message from a Windows laptop with no problem either (and I had nothing to install to get the network ..)
    I don't undesrtand what's happening, so if you have enough thoughts please write them
    Thanks
    (wifi seems so weak too, but I know my antena is weak, so I can't even manage a network between the 2 comp for now ...)

    Hello,
    I just typed ethx, because I have it for eth0 and eth1 (they swap sometimes, so my ethernet card is not always eth0 with udev management ...)
    Also,
    the live gentoo DVD worked fine on the windows laptopt I'm using. This laptop has newer and better hardware, but the kernel of the DVD is a 2.6.15 so older than the one in Arch, I don't really understand ... I may try to burn another live CD just to see ...
    Thank you for helping. And aren't you the guy behind the beyond patchset ? if so I'm lucky cause you should know more than enough about Arch to save me

  • Oops - broken networking.

    Hi all
    Can anyone tell me what happens if the contents of /etc/hostname.interface does not match anything in the /etc/hosts file?
    I changed the name of my computer in the /etc/hosts file without making the corresponding change in /etc/hostname.interface, and now I can't see it on the network.
    In other words, the file /etc/hostname.eri0 contains the word 'kez', but 'kez' does not appear anywhere in /etc/hosts.
    Is there some sort of 'fallback' IP address?

    Ok, thanks both of you for confirming what the IP address on my computer is currently set to.
    Unfortunately I have a bit of a chicken/egg problem, as I need to telnet to it in order to use ifconfig to change the IP address, but in order to be able to telnet to it I need to reset the IP address (or is that more of a "hole in my bucket" sort of problem?)
    Anyway I guess I will just have to MacGyver up some kind of cable to go in the serial port.
    Oh well, at least I can chalk this up as a "learning experience" ;-)
    Thanks
    THO

  • Broken Network Utility

    Hi, I've got a new MBP and I can't launch the Networking Utility in the utilities folder.
    When I launch it I get the following error:
    You can't open the application "Network Utility" because it is not supported on this architecture.
    I called Apple and the first tech couldn't figure it out and I was told that I can't speak with their senior support because I didn't pay for the Apple Care extended warranty. It's pretty annoying considering I've only had this laptop for <6 months.
    As far as I can tell everything else works great but I'd like to use the Network Utility
    Does anyone know how to reinstall the Network Utility without having to reinstall OS X?
    Thanks!

    this error usually happens when you try to run Tiger software in Leopard. sometimes an upgrade from tiger to leopard doesn't upgrade an application and this happens.
    have you done an upgrade from Tiger on this computer? In any case you can reinstall Networking Utility from the leopard install DVD using [Pacifist|http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/12743].

  • BT HomeHub firmware upgrade broken network connect...

    whatever you guys have done with the latest firmware release on the Homehub 2 has completely messed up my dual-boot Ubuntu-Win7 installation.
    Current firmware 4.7.5.1.83.3.18 (Type B)
    Last Updated 21/04/11
    Ever since Friday when I boot into Win7 then reboot into Ubuntu, Ubuntu cannot aquire an IP address from the router. I have to do a factory reset on the router to get an address. I've 10's of port forwarding setup and this is far from ideal.
    What do I do to go back a firmware or who do I contact to get it fixed.
    Its a bit pathetic TBH and I'm quite annoyed about this

    I've got exactly the same (baffling) problem with my BT HomeHub 2 and Ubuntu 10.10. - worked fine last Wednesday (20th April) and won't work today (26th April). Can see the router just fine but won't connect wirelessly or wired but will connect to BT Open Zone which is enabled on my hub and a couple of other hubs nearby. The OpenZone connection is full strength (which is my hub) - none of the neighbouring connections has ever been a full strength signal. Very odd.
    Checked to see if it was my Ubuntu set up by running the machine off the installation disk and got exactly the same symptoms. My HomeHub also updated its firmware some time on the 21st April so, given that nothing else has changed (my windows 7 laptop has continued to work flawlessly) I am driven to the conclusion, like other correspondents here, that the HomeHub update is the culprit.
    Ubuntu is growing and it would be good to see BT do some work on this quickly.

  • Cannot remove a broken sidebar network folder alias in Finder window

    Mac OS 10.6.7 -- WinXP Home
    I have a created netowork folder alias in the sidebar of my Finder window that points to a shared folder on an officemate's PC (WinXP Home). This folder has been deleted on the officemate's computer. Now, in my Finder window, I cannot click on the alias. Clicking on the broken network sidebar folder aliases or dragging them off of the side bar (they used to vanish in a puff of smoke but now they don't) does nothing.
    I can right/control-click is but the only option in the sub-menu is "Open Sidebar Preferences..." and nothing else (other aliases have all the options including "Remove from sidebar"). I can't even drag the folder aliases off of the sidebar in a puff of smoke either. I'm at a loss on this one.
    Any ideas how to remove these broken sidebar aliases? Even opening the sidebar preference panel yielded nothing I could see that would help.

    If you have installed Developer Tools on your Mac (Optional Installs on your MacOS X installer DVD) then you can delete individual aliases in the Finder sidebar, using Property List Editor, which you'll find in Developer > Applications > Utilities.
    In your Home folder go to User > Library > Preferences > com.apple.sidebarlists.plist
    Control-right click and choose Open With > Property List Editor.
    Scroll down to "useritems" and click the grey arrow next to it to reveal contents.
    Click the arrow next to CustomListItems and you'll see a list of entries marked "Item" with a numeric suffix.
    Click the grey arrow next to the Item whose number corresponds to the sidebar alias that you want to get rid of and you'll see the info associated with that entry, including its name, as seen in the sidebar.
    If it's the right one, click again on the Item header (i.e. "Item [x]") and hit delete.
    Quit Property List Editor and Save changes.
    Quit and relaunch Finder and that item will be gone from the sidebar list. Everything else will still be there, and you won't need to rebuild the list.

  • HP LaserJet 5m on network; can't print on Leopard

    In the past, before Leopard 10.5.5 I could print to a networked HP 5m without a problem. Now with 5.5 installed I get "attempting to connect to host..." and "Network host xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is busy; will retry..." This error continues +ad infinitum+.
    Yesterday I could ping the printer. Today I can't. I've tried every trick found here on the forum, installing with a multitude of different settings, as a LPD and as HP IP and HP JetDirect (which the printer has and has worked in the past.)
    I'm EXCEEDINGLY frustrated with what is, apparently, a 10.5.5 problem.
    Anyone got the hot item solution?
    Thank you muchly.

    Yes, yes,
    Please call Hp/printer support/mac group and report your issue AND FILE A FORMAL COMPLAINT.
    Lost ability to print via TC using USB to Hp M1522nf that is only 4 months old...seems to have occurred upon loading latest Apple Leopard patches about 1 1/2 weeks ago (TC and iChat?? do not remember exactly what came in). Need more Mac people to contact Hp by phone so they can grasp the depth of this issue.
    Yesterday, discovered Hp set-up assistant software no longer able to view the USB-connected printer, so cannot start or complete a new set-up. That same printer is invisible to my network as well.
    There is a long thread of broken networking issues somewhere on this discussion site, stemming from those recent patches. Seems 3rd party and suppliers were not prepared or fully informed, or keeping up with Apple, so issues galore.
    Apple seems to have pushed an ill-fated patches out and everyone with networks be damned! Like it or not...latest set of patches like rotten apples and spoiling the bushel.
    Keep us posted if you can.
    Thanks!

    Hey, I just upgraded to 2.6.30 and my DVB-T card (TerraTec Piranha) which uses the siano driver doesn't work anymore.

    //Edit:

    PS / Not related to topic: While I'm at it, how could I fix this: "WARNING: All config files need .conf: /etc/modprobe.d/framebuffer_blacklist.pacsave, it will be ignored in a future release." - I get it about twenty times at startup since some time.

    Fixed by removing the file and using framebuffer_blacklist.conf instead

    Hiya, I was having the identical problem with an Acer AspireOne D250 netbook using the atl1c kernel mod.  The Arch Wiki entry for my netbook specifically has a workaround posted, though I believe it's applicable here:
    http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Ace … e_D250_LAN
    With Archlinux 2009.08 the installation did not work from the beginning on an Aspire One D250. The LAN was not working properly. This could be traced down to the Kernel 2.6.30 which had broken network drivers. To get the LAN working, use the Archlinux core install. After installing Archlinux, get the Kernel 2.6.31 and the Kernel Headers on a USB stick and install it via "pacman -U". After rebooting, the LAN should work properly.
    Hope this helps!

  • How to access the local server host website in the internet

    I set up the server and host on local website, I wonder how I could use other mac to access this local website via the internet?
    Thanks!

    The following should give you enough to search for discussions, as well as some general details of IP network gizmos and boxes:  You'll need an ISP tier of service that allows remote access and preferably with a static IP address (static versus dynamic IP).  This as various ISPs prohibit server-oriented protocols such as HTTP TCP port 80 traffic, and some firewall server-oriented ports.   You'll then either need to use either dynamic DNS with your public dynamic IP — this is the hacking-around and not-really-for-production approach — or static IP with traditional DNS, and you'll also need to enable what's called port forwarding (sometimes also called virtual server) through your gateway-firewall-NAT device and into your server for TCP port 80 and possibly also TCP port 443.  This port forwarding gets the incoming connections from the 'net into your public IP address (static or dynamic) mapped through to your NAT'd IP address space and your private IP address for your server.
    As the first part of getting any of this to work with OS X Server, launch Terminal.app on the server and issue the following harmless diagnostic command:
    sudo changeip -checkhostname
    This checks for common errors in the local DNS setup, and broken networking and broken DNS tends to cause other errors elsewhere in the environment.  You'll need to enter an administrative password for the sudo, you might get a one-time informational message from the sudo, and you'll then get some configuration details and then an indication that DNS and local networking needs no changes, or that there are configuration issues.

  • How to change maintenance powershell script via GPO?

    Per suggestion reposted from here: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/windowsserver/en-US/6eece9d6-a524-48aa-8e64-7554f0ec9b31/how-to-change-maintenance-powershell-script-via-gpo?forum=winserverGP
    Posted at http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-desktop/desktop-shortcuts-to-items-on-network-drives/94eddb27-342b-40fc-9ad4-677ff4ee8ebe?page=9&tm=1403700614489 originally.
    There is a very annoying "feature" in Windows 7 called BrokenShortcuts.ps1 which is being called out weekly via maintenance task and if it finds more than 4 "broken" network shortcuts it removes them all. So it means if a user at this
    moment is disconnected from the network he will lose all links to shares, network applications sitting on his desktop. Funny that there was no such script on Vista and i don't see this on Win8. On the post i have attached one user suggested to edit this script
    and change 4 to 500 or whatever high number. That's fine for one time fix. But i need to do this for 200+ users. This file cannot be simply replaced by a script, so i'm wondering is there any way to do it via GPO?
    I have already tried various startup scripts, but i'm not sure which user to put into commands.
    I need to run this on startup:
    takeown /F C:\Windows\diagnostics\scheduled\Maintenance\TS_BrokenShortcuts.ps1
    icacls c:\windows\diagnostics\scheduled\maintenance\TS_BrokenShortcuts.ps1 /grant "some user":F
    copy \\share\folder$\TS_BrokenShortcuts.ps1 C:\Windows\diagnostics\scheduled\Maintenance\ /Y

    You need to take time to study how Windows does these things.  You can control them with GP which is what you asked.  The article shows you how to disable elements of the tasks.  Each task controls a script.  If you disable the task the
    script that deletes shortcuts will be stopped. Other maintenance tasks will continue to run.
    Most of your problem is that you seem to want someone to provide a magical solution.  In technology it is necessary to fully research your issues until you understand all aspects.  After fully studying the issue you should understand the possible
    solutions if they exist.
    You claim to have deployed the patch that Microsoft released to fix the issue.  You claim it didn't work.  If that is the case then you need to call MS and \p[en a support incident.  If  Microsoft determines that you are right about the
    patch not working you will not be charged for the call.
    I know that learning how to support technology is hard and frustrating for newcomers.  In time, by using these incidents to learn, you will become a seasoned technician and all of this will seem trivial.  Until then we can only suggest that you
    do things that most of us are familiar with.  We cannot fix your network for you.
    I think you haven't really posted in the GP forum but posted a question about GP in the server forum.  Try posting in the GP forum.

  • [SOLVED]bridge connection to container with static IP

    I have been messing for many days now trying to do a clean setup for a bridge br0 for a linux container managed with systemd-nspawn.
    I run a custom kernel (as I need user space set) 3.13.5-1, systemd-git. The container boots fine. This container is a test server and so aimed at various network services, basically http, ftp, ssh,smtp. This will then be bind to a domain name. Thus I need to "cleanly" separate the container network traffic from my host network one. My idea is then to give each one a specific static IP.
    First question : is it correct to give two IP on the same network or shall I create a sub-network for the container ? (I am looking for a simple configuration).
    I loaded the needed iptable modules as they are not loaded at boot.
    $ lsmod
    iptable_nat
    ip_tables
    iptable_filter
    Now on the host, dhcpcd.service is disabled, iptables is enabled, and here is my netctl profile:
    Description='hortensia static ethernet connection'
    Interface=enp7s0
    Connection=ethernet
    IP=static
    Address=('192.168.1.87/24')
    Gateway='192.168.1.254'
    DNS=('212.147.10.180' '212.147.10.162')
    network is ok. Below some command outputs:

    Now things start to be messy when I want to start the bridge netctl profile

    when I start this profile, this leave me with a broken network and I can not browse the web. Below some command outputs:

    Why can't I see the br0 and enp7s0 IP in the $ ip addr command output ?
    I tried some other profiles, but it didn't change. I tried : BindsToInterface0(); adding Gateway and DNS
    Some user tolde me on the mailing

    After playing with many netctl profiles in many orders, I found that the bridge profile has to started first and not bind to Ethernet device.
    The two following profiles do the job :
    /etc/netctl/bridge-hortensia
    Description="Bridge connection to container"
    Interface=br0
    Connection=bridge
    BindsToInterfaces=()
    IP=no
    SkipNoCarrier=yes
    /etc/netctl/static-hortensia
    Description='hortensia static ethernet connection'
    Interface=enp7s0
    Connection=ethernet
    After=(bridge-hortensia)
    IP=static
    Address=('192.168.1.87/24')
    Gateway='192.168.1.254'
    DNS=('212.147.10.180' '212.147.10.162')

  • InDesign Crashing During Data Merge?

    Is anyone having any issues with InDesign CS3 crashing while doing a data merge with Excel?  Microsoft had some updates with the Office products and I'm wondering if one of the updates has caused a communication problem between the two?

    I do it pretty often using CS3 and csv files. As I recall, a broken network path to the source caused me a problem once.
    At what point is the crash? You could have a corrupt file, create a new one and test. Elsewise, there could be a character within the data source. Are you using .csv source files (I do but many, especially Mac users, go with .txt source files).

  • XMII call to XI robustness

    Hi all,
    we have a scenario where xMII will communicate with XI, probably using 'HTTP XI' action or 'Web Service XI'.
    How can a robust communication mechanism can be implemented? I mean, we would like to assure that the message arrives to XI with 'exactly once' Quality of Service (I don't know now if the order is also important). If there's a communication problem between xMII and XI (e.g a broken network link) xMII should resubmit the message to XI.
    How can we design such a solution? I've seen that xMII 12 provides buffering services, but I don't know if this feature is somehow applicable in this scenario.
    Can someone provide some hints and suggestions?
    Thank you, your help is really appreciated.
    Mauro

    Mauro,
    It also does not have to be a table in a database.  You could save the messages as xml files on the Web side of xMII.  Perhaps have a folder or several under a project named MessageQueue or similar, which would hold the messages.  Since the contents of those folders are actually in the NW database, you would get database reliability and administrative controls along with close availability from within MII.  You could have different folders for unprocessed, completed, retry, fatalError, etc. to contain each message.  If you don't have much volume, that would work for your purposes.
    You could also do the same with actually saving the files in an external file folder structure, but why not do it inside MII.
    My real preference would be an outside database as Sara mentioned.  But sometimes they are not available (or authorized).
    Good luck,
    Mike
