BT Voyager 205

Hi
Is anyone having the trouble with their BT Voyager 205? I have one and it very very often crashes and all of the lights on the router come on. I then have to switch it off and on again to make it work.
Please help.
Adrian.

Hi - I'm having probles connecting with the voyager too! don't know if you can help? me and my flatmate are both trying to connect to the net - me by ethernet (which works fine) and her by usb. it's the usb we're having problems with. her machine doesn't seem to have the option of connecting by usb in network at all and mine has speedtouch usb greyed out. Help! Her machine connected before - but not now we've swapped isp's. Cheers, kat.

I have just been going through ** to get iChat working with a BT Voyager 205 modem/router.
In the end I contacted Apple and an extremely helpful iChat Engineer from Apple contacted me. With his patient advice and tutor-ship we succeeded in making it all work perfectly.
And what you have to do is a 2 minute job. This is a direct cut n paste of his email to me less my IP address, you just put in yours. No port forwarding or port triggering nonsense. No static IP rubbish. It's all in the Voyager.
    Here you go:
Open up a web browser and access the 205 control panel at http://192.168.1.1
Select the 'Advanced' option on the left of the screen to open up the advanced configuration page and then click the 'Advanced....' option.
Enter your username and password when prompted, the default username is 'admin' and the default password is also 'admin'.
Select the 'IP Routing' option in the menu on the left and then choose 'NAT Virtual Server/DMZ' from the NAT Options.
Left click on the 'Add' button and then select 'DMZ' from the rule flavour menu.
Enter a number not previously used by another rule into the 'Rule ID' box, '60' should be fine for most people.
In the 'LAN IP Address' enter the IP address of the Mac found in Network Prefs(I guess it is 192.168.1.XX)
Left click on the 'Apply' button and then left click on the red 'Save' button on the left.
You should then get a confirmation window which you can just close.
    All done.
You have now put your Mac in front of the Voyagers Firewall in something called the DMZ or DeMilitarized Zone. If you don't want anymore tinkering, turn your Firewall off in Sharing Prefs and you are good to go.
If you feel insecure you then need to open a few ports in your Mac's Firewall in Sharing prefs.
Click Add and a sheet opens.
In the Port Name select Other
TCP Ports add 5190, 5298 (type them in exactly as I write them here)
UDP Port Numbers add 5060, 5190, 5297, 5298, 5353, 5678, 16384-16403 (type them in exactly as I write them here)
Description add iChat AV to give it a name.
    Click OK
Then turn your Mac Firewall on. What you have just done means that though your Mac is not protected by the Voyagers Firewall, it is protecting itself. However, opening those ports allows iChat to communicate through the Mac's Firewall.
    Now enjoy iChat.

    Hi SolidSilver,
That's a different way of doing things.
He has led you through this
    http://portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/BT/Voyager205/iChat.htm
but has gone for DMZ rather than the 23 ports that need to be set up. (the pics only show port 5190 and you need more to AV chat)
If you do fancy the tinkering to get the 205 to be a Firewall as well you have to follow the page to set up port 5190 fo both TCP and UDP
Next you need to do the other 22 ports on UDP
They have to be entered one at a time in the 205 so it is time consuming.
    5060
    5678
    16384
    16385
    16386...
    and the others in between
    ....16402
    16403
The above form your post and this will only work if your computer always gets the smae IP address from the 205 each time it is turned on.
If you have any connection problems check the System Preferences > Network for your current IP and see if that is where the 205 is send ing the data and amend as required.

  • AMSN & iSight & BT Voyager 205 - not working

    Hi All,
I am wanting to use aMSN with my isight and using an ADSL router Voyager 205. However for some reasons (common i understand) the router needs the ports changing to allow the isight to work, checked out how to do it, called BT and still no luck, NOT WORKING. Need it to work to talk to my son in Brasil, and he on Windows!!!!! MSN
    Keep getting the message:
    type IP-Restrict-NAT
    Listening - False
YOu are firewalled or behind a router
    Webcam extention is loaded
    Capture extention -QuicktimeTcl is loaded
IM not firewalled so it seems it is the router not finding the isight.
It gives a link to a Q & A with solution but doesnt work with my router for some reason.
    CAN ANYONE HELP PLEASE.
[email protected] if you can please or [email protected] on MSN (or aMSN)

i have the RG54GS i will plug it into my adsl voyager 205 . ethernet slot and connect to wan on RG. and share my internet with pc downstairs ,which will recieve via wireless usb 11.b adapter (msi also)
but i cannot access my resi gateway via the ip . i will enter the default into my browser and it will say ,using ie .6 page not found or if i use mozilla firefox unable to access.
i have also tried connect direct thru ethernet on pc into wan on RG and even lan on RG. no joy
i tried all things . i just want to tell it that i am fix ip and set up so i can share internet.
ty in advance for any ideas
         deanosbeano

yeh all is fine, i can ping everything except this default ip. 192.168.1.254  i get timed outwith i.e  and with firefox get connection refused.
seen the other topics on this , but it says about the dhpc thing start/ctrl panel/network/ ethernet marvel youcon in my case/tc icp. here i get auto or manual adress. my voyager dictates my static. which is above with diff last number.
so do i put same ip in the marvel which my voyager uses . or do i put the default . i tried both to be honest. and all seems fine cept i cant browse just join with games . but my rg wont let me ping it so i cant set it up to send info to my 11b downstairs.

  • Bridging voyager 205 and PPPoE in order to vpn int...

    I have a BT voyager 205.
My company gave me a watchguard XTM21 so that I can VPN into their network.
I have bridged the voyager as per http://support.zen.co.uk/kb/Knowledgebase/Voyager-205-Bridging-Mode
On the watchguard, I have set the external interface as PPPoE and given a user name and password.
I have always been aware that the username and password for the PPP where ignored by BT as per this link http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/forums/1/helproom/202818/bt-broadband-router-settings/
so I have just used [email protected] as the username.
The watchguard insists on a password so I just used a dummy password (again see above link as to why I believe that to be correct.)
Bottom line is that I can see an address in the gateway column for the external watchguard interface, but an IP address of 0.0.0.0
Can anyone shed some light on this?
    Thanks for any help.

Thank you for your reply and assistance.  I will run a capture and post back.
One other piece I left out:  When in bridge mode if I do: ping google.com -f -l 1464 it works.   Any higher and I get the following from the internal interface of the  ASA.

  • BT voyager 205 compatible with intel macs?

Anyone in UK know if BT voyager 205 is compatible with intel macs?
Ive just found out my old speedtouch USB330 isnt yet intel mac compatible and need to buy a cheap new one.
    Thanks

    Steve,
Don't worry about it... and a warm welcome to Apple Discussions
Unfortunately, there isn't a way, currently, to remove posts although you do have a 15 minute window to make any modifications.
I suspect the 205 that you received and did not work was either faulty or was not set up properly.
Your recommendation of the 210 is a good one and if they are priced similarly then, as I said, the 210 would be a better investment.

  • Voyager 205 Router: Has anyone cracked it??????

    Hi there,
Sorry if this has been posted before - I did a quick search and couldn't see anything.
Basically, I know people have had problems getting AV to work in 3.0 using the Voyager 205 router on BT broadband.
My question is this: Is it actually possible to audio or video chat with someone who is also using this router on Bt broadband?
I have seen lots of talk about opening ports but has this actually solved the problem for anyone?
    I'm using a 1.25GHz eMac with 512MB ram running 10.4.2
    Thanks!!

At last, someone else with the same problem... and maybe an answer for you (although we are still having problems).
My brother (in Belgium) and I (in UK with BT Voyager 205 router)have been unsuccessful in getting Ichat to work between us. We have been trying all of the problem solving tips you find on the web, and I was beginning to think it was my router.
However, we found a link to a US based chap where you can test your Ichat to see if it works. Both of ours did with him (hoorah! and relief to see a normal dressed guy at the other end, who is also happy to give advice), but it still does not work between my brother and myself. (Does anyone know why? We both have the latest downloads of Tiger, we both have latest Mac's, and have tried everything we can think of.)
The web address of the US guy is:
    http://www.mvldesign.com/videoconferencetutorial.html
His website tips are easy to understand and lots of things to try first. You can also try to link to him to see if your camera/ichat works at all. (Try after 11pm as I think he's West Coast US.)
Hope this will be of use, and good luck.

  • BT Voyager 2500v ADSL router & iChat

    Hi Guys,
Does anyone know how to make the BT Voyager 2500v router work with iChat?
I was recently upgraded from the BT Voyager 205 that used to work fine and even though my internet is now faster I can't make my iChat work.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi Marcello,
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions
This page does not seem to show this device has UPnP.
Use the info on this site to access the device. Use the method described but open the ports as listed here http://www.ralphjohnsuk.dsl.pipex.com/page4.html and not the Ports listed in the link.
I see the device lists a Voice menu item. Is this for VoIP ?
This may be blocking use of port 5060 in iChat.
Do you have a VoIP service (Internet Phones) ?

  • Public ip behind modem/router - setup

I have been reading this forum's topics thoroughly over the past few days - very helpful advice from some of the top posters.
However, I have a very basic question which is beginning to make me tear my hair out - how do I give the external NIC a public IP address that's completely visible over the internet but that will still allow communication with my router/modem.
Last week we decided to update our old G4 running OS X Server 10.3.8 to a brand new XServe. Our needs are very basic and the old server ran afp, nat, mail, firewall and vpn for a small workgroup of about 10 designers. Our ISP gave us a range of static public IP addresses of which we only used one for both our router address and mail (over smtp). ISP handles external DNS and sorted the MX records for this. A zoom modem/router was configured in half bridge mode to transparently send this IP address 83.xxx.89 to the OS X server via DHCP. Therefore external NIC was set up as DHCP and internal NIC was set up with local address 192.168.0.1. Because the 89 external address was also our mailgate address - mailgate.mydomain.com - our ISP could send down our mail, mobile users could log on via VPN, workers on the lan could browse the web and use afp etc. In other words, if worked perfectly for our small setup and was steady as a rock for about 3-4 years. I have noted comments about the lack of a hardware firewall - we are relying totally on Apple's firewall in OSX server but I am comfortable with this for my small workgroup.
When we came to install the XServe in a similar fashion the external NIC would only pick up the external public IP address for about two minutes. After this it would drop and pick up a self assigned IP address - obviously all connection to the internet would be lost and the primary address would become 192.168.0.1 because the internal NIC would move up in rank. After talking to Apple support for a literally a couple of hours they seemed to draw a blank but suggested that I must change the external NIC to manual to stop it being overridden. I must also set up LOM correctly. Fair enough, I'm willing to try this and have now got my ISP to send our mail down to a different mailgate - 83.xxx.90. Therefore we have one public IP for the router and another for the mailserver (that happens to be doing a few other services too). Domain names for these are mailgate.mydomain.com and mailgate2.mydomain.com - in fact the original address will still act as a mailserver with a slightly higher priority because I want the option of switching back to my G4 until all this is resolved and don't want two new setups on my hands! Once the Xserve is setup the old server will no longer function.
However, all the modems I have tried will only communicate with internal IP addresses on the LAN. Even the dmz instructions say I should configure with an internal IP address - is this correct? Turning off DHCP server and NAT on these devices doesn't seem to help either (I assumed this would be the answer but no). Can someone tell me where I am going wrong? I can't find anyone else asking about this so I can only assume that I have overlooked something really simple.
Ideally I would like to keep the new two address setup but I am quite happy to go back to the single setup with the router in half bridge mode if the Xserve will hang on to it reliably.
    My set up is:
    Router:
    WAN static 83.xxx.89 subnet 255.255.255.248
LAN 192.168.1.1 subnet 255.255.255.0 (don't really understand where this fits in).
    NAT off, DCHP off
    Xserve
    external NIC
WAN static 83.xxx.90 subnet 255.255.255.248, router 83.xxx.89 or 192.168.1.1 (tried both and tried matching both subnets)
    internal NIC
    LAN 192.168.0.1 subnet 255.255.255.0
LOM (guessing here a bit because manual is awful)
    WAN static 83.xxx.91, subnet 255.255.255.248 (channel 1)
    LAN 192.168.0.50, subnet 255.255.255.0
DNS on XServe will be setup up so that mailgate2.mydomain.com resolves to the internal 192.168.0.1 address. External DNS handled by ISP. Reading previous posts this seems correct.
Router/modems are Belkin F5D9630uk4 (hopeless, support tell me it won't take a static WAN address so it's going back), Voyager 205 (seems quite configurable but won't let anything through if NAT is disabled), Zoom X5 (older 4 year model currently working succesfully in half bridge mode for my older setup - however only new models will work in full bridge mode which could be what I am looking for??)
The realise the above modems/routers are more consumer models so I am willing to buy a more configurable expensive pro modem or router if this is what's needed. I stress though that I would like the Xserve to be acting as the firewall and NAT etc and don't really fancy having to have to forward loads of ports etc.
Thanks for taking the time to read this through, I thought more detail would be helpful. I am also prepared to employ a professional to set this up for me but they (Apple knowledgeable) are rather thin on the ground in Glos UK. We did get a company in four years ago to set up the old server and they gave up after three weeks (a friend and I managed to crack it the following weekend - probably just lucky!).
Any help would be really appreciated - what we're trying to do must be pretty common?
    17 G4 Laptop   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Now solved - bought myself a more professional router that has more user features and all has become clear. Router is Draytek 2800 which seems like a good piece of kit. I think that there are various ways of achieving what I wanted to do (I suspected this all along) but I chose to set up a 'second public lan subnet' in Draytek speak. See here for more:

  • Ichat audio

I have ichat AV 2.1 on an iMac with OS 10.3.9 with an ethernet connection to an airport base station connected to a BT voyager 205 ADSL router.
I can use ichat in a text mode and I can chat in audio to other computers on the local network but I haven't had any luck getting an audio connection across the internet. With one buddy with a pc I don't get a phone logo at all, another with a Mac will try to connect but gets a 'did not respond' message.
I've seen that there may be problems associated with firewalls and routers
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93208
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93333
I don't have a firewall turned on on the iMac (maybe there is one on the base station?) or the problem could be with the router its not on the list of 'qualified routers' - if so not sure if it is possible to reconfigure.
Alternatively, my set up may be fine and the problem could be at the other end(s).
    Any helpful suggestions?

    Hi Ralph,
Just to confuse things, I'm also called Tom.
The advice you gave in this discussion is the closest thing to a solution I have found in dealing with my problem (same as Tom's above), and would love the opportunity to ask you a few questions in the hope that you will check this discussion again...
My parents have the 2mbps BT Broadband deal with a Voyager router, and I assume that it is the 205 ADSL, but I'm not sure right now.
We are unable to iChat AV (audio/video), but are able to iChat (text) with the iSight unplugged. Cannot iChat with the iSight plugged in at all.
I took my mum through the steps in the article you recommended (portforward.com), but at that time we didn't know about the other 21 ports.
I have looked through the portforwarding steps again and it seems that we must first have a static IP. Is this correct? If so any idea how to set it up as the instructions only relate to Windows machines?
My parents are using an iMac G5, plugged straight into the router. OS X 10.3.9 / iChat 2.1. iSight. That's everything I think...
I am I right in thinking that the BT router may be the reason why we are getting the 'Tom did not respond' / 'Mum did not respond' messages?
I am able to iChat AV with the testing AIMs (tryichatav & ichatAVtesting), but have yet to try with a real person.
So the burning qyestion is do you think it would be worth me convincing my mum to go through all 22 ports? i.e. do you think that is the problem? If so do we need to do anything about a static IP address?
Kindest regards and thanks in advance,
    Tom

  • PC to MAC video chat ALMOST there

After updating my OS today with a new version just released (14 Feb, 2006) I gave iChat another try.
It works ALMOST flawlessly but one glitch remains. This gotta be easy for an expert.
When I call from the PC using AIM 5.9 I can video chat with no problems. Video, sound, everything there with good quality and speed.
When I call from the MAC it's another story. After attempting to respond for a few seconds, I get the message on the MAC side that says "Failed to start Video Chat because: username did not respond", where "username" is myself!
How can I not respond if I am the one initiating the video chat request??
Since it works fine from the PC to Mac I know that camera, modem, etc are all OK.
    Any solution for this problem?
I am running tests with BOTH the PC and the Mac at my home, have a BT Voyager 205 modem with a Belkin wireless router, the Mac is connected to the router by an ethernet cable and the PC is a laptop connected via an Intel internal wireless modem, at 54 Mb/s.
The laptop has no firewalls and is running windows XP service pack 1...
    Anxiously awaiting enlightenment

I went to this site before... it says the following about this particular problem:
"Can not initiate video conference with AIM: If you cannot initiate a video conference with an AIM user yet they can initiate one with you look at their buddy name. Does it have a space or an uppercase character? There's the problem. The solution is to update iChat to version 3.1.1 (v429) which comes with the 10.4.4 update. (Click Software Update... in the Apple menu) This latest update specifically allows iChat to initiate a video conference with an AOL Messenger (AIM) for Windows user whose name include spaces or uppercase characters."
But not only i have already upgraded to the latest iChat, Tiger, etc but both usernames are all lowercase with no spaces... so this is NOT the problem.
I am no firewall or modem port expert but find it strange that either one could be the culprit since when initiated by the PC the video DOES work perfectly.

  • "Did not respond" problems - can anyone help

I'm hoping somenone can help with the problems I am experiencing when trying to use ichat:
I am using iChat AV 3.1 through an ADSLnation AMX 64 router and I am trying to connect with my dad who is using iChat 2.1 through a Voyager 205. I'm on 10.4.3 and my dad is on 10.3.9.
When ever either one of us invites the other for a video chat we constantly get the "did not respond" error message. Regardless of who initites the chat the error messages always states that it is me who has not responded - this makes me think that the problem is at my end?
I have the mac firewall switched off. I do have Net Barrier X3 software, but I have the firewall set for "no restrictions".
Having read through numerous postings here, I have tried connecting to "appleu3test02" and strangely I can get through without any problems.
I assume that my router is probably the problem - but I am not sure what settings I should be looking for and how to adjust them.
If anyone has any suggestions any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi Ralph
Many thanks for all your help last night.
I adjusted the port forwarding on the AMX64 as you suggested - and it did the job.
I then talked my dad through a similar process with his Voyager 205 and got him to adjust his quicktime settings to match his connection speed.
And finally we managed to get full video chat - fantastic.
After reading through all the posts here I felt this would probably take days to resolve - however with your assistance it has only taken a few hours to get ichat fully operational.
Although this isn't the simple plug an play approach that most mac users are used to, it does prove that if you speak to the right people at the start of the process that setting up ichat doesn't have to be a complete nightmare.
Thanks again you for your help.

  • Still can't iChat

    Hello again.
I just can't get iChat to work with video although text is fine. I'm using a BT Voyager 205 router and my parents (who I'm trying to chat with) have another type of BT Voyager router (I forget the number). We can both connect to appleu3test01 with no difficulties. We've both tried it with the firewall off (so doesn't that mean all the ports are open?) but all we get is "so-and-so didn't respond".
I've read Ralph John's website which has been helpful (although some of it was as bit technical for me!) but I'm not sure what to try next. I just can't understand why we can both connect to the test buddies but not each other.
It's not all that important really. My parents only live a few minutes away but my children thought it would be fun to talk to their grandparents on the computer. And it seems a shame not to use the built in iSight when it's there.
    Any suggestions?
    Rachel

    HI Rachel,
The 205 is supposed to have all the ports open when in default mode.
However many find that this is not as true as they would like.
The set up instructions for Port Forwarding this device are here.
The Setting of a Static IP address is not absolutely crucial and the prrs can be forwarded to the IP your computer currently has from the modem (System Preferencces > Network > Ethernet > TCP/IP tab.)
A Static IP is created by turning off DHCP in the Modem and then telling the Mac to use Manually where it currently says Using DHCP in the Network Preference pane above.
The 205 requires that you enter each port in turn.
Newer Firware seem to restrict the number of ports you can open. (iChat needs 29 to use all features of AIM, Jabber and Bonjour).
Nor does it have the options of Port Triggering or UPnP which allow multiple computers to use the same ports and require less set up.

  • Using BT FON with a different home router

I currently have a BT Home Hub and have opted in to BT FON, which I have been using quite a bit when away from home.
However, I am thinking about switching to a different router at home, for unrelated reasons.
Am I correct in my interpretation that I will still be able and allowed to use FON and OpenZone hotspots when away, even though this will mean that I cannot provide one myself?
Is it likely that this will continue to be the case in the future?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Rather than start a new thread I'll resurrect this one.
I'm a new BT Internet user and been on Infinity for 3 days. I've registered for Openzone and figured out how my HH3 transmits BTWiFi and BTWiFi with FON for other opted in users. All good stuff and working well.
A family relative has been on ADSL BT Internet for many years, originally he used an ancient desktop PC with a Voyager 205 connected via USB as his PC didn't have a working ethernet connection. After the 205 expired I gave him my old Voyager 2091, again connected via USB.
During his time with BT (Probably after changing contracts) he was sent two Home Hubs (Versions 1 & 2) whch he could not use as he didin't have a working ethernet connection.
So the Voyager 2091 expired last week, that was my last USB router. I installed a PCI ethernet adapter to his PC and used the newer Home Hub. The Home Hub connected to the internet fine (I could surf wirelessly for any period of time) but the connection between PC and HH would only last 8-10 mins after every reboot of the PC. There must have been some sort of issue between the HH and ethernet adapter as after I changed the HH for my spare Netgear there have been no more problems.
And the point of this post is to confirm that its still ok for him to sign up for BTWiFi/Openzone access even though he can't be a host as he's using a Netgear router. Would he be breaching any T&C?
    Thanks
