[BUG] Business Components refactoring fails (TP4)
Hi,
I tried to do some refactoring of Business Components without much success. Here's what I noted:
- After renaming entities/view objects, names in the Application Navigator are not updated;
- Moving associations/links to another package fails (the moved xml files are empty);
Is refactoring supposed to work in TP4?
Olivier
Hi Steve
Are you saying that the wizard allowed you to create an entity with the same EO name in the same package as one that already existed with that same name?
Yes but i'm not sure that i didn't do some mismatch with packages because i have one for entities, one for views and one for application module. I have to check this before I confirm.
I stay however with the idea that it would be nice that the list of available tables show that an entity already exists for that table and selecting it again will be a volountary action to create an another entity based on same table.

Possible Bug: Business Components and packaging preferences
I'm using JDev 11g TP2
When I set up package preferences for business components, it is completely ignoring the package I setup for the Entity object.
Example:
From the menu Tools>Preferences
Under the section Business Components>Packages.
I set the following:
Business Component: left blank - it uses the default [prefix].model
Entity: entity
Association: entity.association
View Object: view
View Link: view.links
the rest have been left at default settings.
Then I create a new diagram so I can add existing database tables to the application. I drag and drop the selected tables from the application resources to the diagram. It creates the entity objects in the [prefix].model package, not the [prefix].model.entity package like I was expecting. However the associations get created correctly in the [prefix].model.entity.association package.
Is this possibly a bug, or just a training issue for me?
ThanksNo worries Ric. Unfortunately I don't have access to your latest builds but I'll still raise the issues in case they are relevant.

BUG: Business Components using Datasources on Websphere - statement closed
Hi,
This is an unusual combinatation, we are deploying business components projects on websphere with a SQL Server database. This was originally deployed all to Oracle. We have managed to convert the project sucessfully (JDeveloper 10.1.3) and on Websphere, however when we moved our application module configurations (bc4j.xcfg) to use JNDI data sources which works in Jdeveloper, we are encountering problems using websphere with business components and datasources.
The statement closed error occurs when trying to calling executequery() method on the view object, not the first time the JSP page is accessed, but the second time. Refresh page all is good. Access page again error occurs. Very consistent.
Our code will often do applicationmodule.findViewObject("name"), if not found then create it, otherwise use the vo and kapow bombs out on the executequery method if reusing the view object.
ERROR

Ampooling is on. It appears the jdbc prepared statement is being closed but bc4j is expecting to still be open?
Any ideas on diagnosing the issue or app module config changes greatly appreciated.
MarkHi Steve,
This is not a composition association. Actually, this is an association from a table to an intersection (many-to-many) table. The code in my service is based on the SRDemo, see SRServiceImpl#updateSkillsForCurrentStaff(List) and is called on a save button from a shuttle page.
The current master is the master I want it to belong to. The link to the master gets correctly saved in the database (just as in the SRDemo). We can also navigate from the master view row to the find the detail view row using the generated RowIterator. However, this does not work from the master entity row to the detail entity row. The problem is really at the entity level.
Thanx

Intermittent bug: Business Components from Tables wizard exception
Hi JDev team
Just to flag an exception I periodically get in JDev 11g TP with the Business Components from Tables wizard, once I've pressed Finish in the wizard:

at oracle.jbo.dt.ui.pkg.PKEntityThread.run(PKEntityThread.java:396)It is raised when the dialog displays showing the work JDev is doing after completing the wizard to create my business components.
I'm not able to consistently reproduce this issue, though I've encountered it several times. Don't quote me, but it appears to happen the first time I use the wizard in a new JDev session, but is not reproducible again in the same session. However it doesn't always happen when I restart JDev and I'm sorry I can't be more precise.
Hopefully the exception trace will give you enough information to track this issue down.
Regards,
CM.Hi Ric
Unfortunately not really, it's a basic schema we use to test new software. One unusual thing is a hierarchical fk on the same table. But as I said the exception doesn't always occur, but annoyingly does seem to occur when I'm demoing the 11g TP version to clients. I was just hoping the stack trace would help out.
I'll keep an eye on it and if I can work out why it's occurring I'll update this post.
Thanks for following this up.
Cheers,

BUG? Default Project Properties, Business Components: Base Classes
Is it just me, or is there a bug in the Default Project Properties Dialog when attemptiong to specify custom classes for the Business Component Base Classes.
I have extended EntityCache and can successfully specify it as a base class via the Project Properties dialog, but in Default Project Properties, I get an error stating: "The selected class is not a valid superclass. Either is does not implement the interface oracle.jbo.server.EntityCache or it has an invalid modifier".
FYI: My custom library has been added to the Default Project Properties->Libraries.
Any help?Does it work if you use the:
Tools | Preferences... | Business Components > Base Classes panel instead? -
BUG 10.1.3 EA -- BME-99003 in Business Components Diagram with imported EOs
Following a hands-on exercise in the Oracle JDeveloper 10g Handbook (pages 343 - 345):
-- Create new application workspace, say HRApp, using default Web Application Template.
-- Edit Model project properties to create new library with classpath that points to business domain objects in a project folder from a different workspace.
-- Import the Business Components from the other project's folder, say "businessdomain.xml".
-- Create a BC Diagram in the Model project of the HRApp application.
-- Create a new View Object in the BC Diagram by dragging from Component Palette, rename to "JobsView".
-- Drag entity object representation from new library, say "Jobs.xml" onto View Object.
-- See error message below.

If further errors occur, you should restart the application.
Also, report the problem on the JDeveloper forum on otn.oracle.com, or contact Oracle support, giving the information from this message.
________________________________________________________________________________We have not been able to reproduce the exact same error, there would be a problem if we were trying to write to the library file, as those objects are read only, of course. Can you tell me, the entity object that you are referencing, has it ever appeared on a diagram? An easy way to tell, if you don't know is by looking at its XML file and see if it has an ID=some long string entry.

Default Subpackage Names for Business Components (11g); Bug?
Does anyone know how to enable the ability to specify the default packages under Tools -> Default Project Properties ->Business Components -> Packages?
Mine are all greyed out.
Also, even when I have the bare minimum of an ADF model project, before even checking "Initialize Project for Business Components", the defalt packages are greyed out.
Further, once I do check "Initialize Project for Business Components", the section for Default Subpackage Names is complete gone.
I want to be able to specifiy the subpackages, so that when I regenerate entities etc. from tables the components go to the right packages.
Thanks for any help.This seems like a bug to me. If you select Initialize Project for Business Components, everything is enabled. And stays that way even after you open a different application.
But , You can set these values under Tools - Preferences - Business Components - Packages. This works nicely. Once you set these, create a new application and things will be fine. If you have existing application, it may require some xml file (.jpr) manipulation. That seems to be a nicer approach. I don't know what is the purpose of Default Project Properties, when you can set everything by Tools - Preferences. -
Bug (possibly?): SelectManyShuttle fails to display selected items
Bug (possibly?): SelectManyShuttle fails to display selected items when valuePassThru="true" in ADF 10g
Hello all,
When run, the example below shows a Select Many Shuttle with four choices in the leading list. When items are shuttled to the training list and the page is submitted the trailing list is rendered with no items selected. Is this a bug?
Configuration
This example was constructed using jDeveloper 10.1.3.5.0.
A new application was created using the Web Application [JSF, ADF BC] template although no business components are used.
Steps to Reproduce
1. Create the following backing bean class.
package com.fmcna.adf.test.view;
import java.util.ArrayList;
import java.util.List;
import javax.faces.model.SelectItem;
public class ShuttleBean {
public ShuttleBean() {
private List availableItems;
private List selectedItems;
public void setAvailableItems(List availableItems) {
this.availableItems = availableItems;
public List getAvailableItems() {
//populate with a List of SelectItem instances on the inital call to this method
if(this.availableItems==null) {
this.availableItems=generateSelectItemsList();
return availableItems;
public void setSelectedItems(List selectedItems) {
this.selectedItems = selectedItems;
public List getSelectedItems() {
return selectedItems;
* Build a List of SelectItem instances to be used by an af:selectManyShuttle
* @return A List containing SelectItems instances
private List generateSelectItemsList() {
List initialItems = new ArrayList();
initialItems.add(new SelectItem(new Integer(11),"First Choice"));
initialItems.add(new SelectItem(new Integer(22),"Second Choice"));
initialItems.add(new SelectItem(new Integer(33),"Third Choice"));
initialItems.add(new SelectItem(new Integer(44),"Fourth Choice"));
return initialItems;
}2. Configure the ShuttleBean class as a session scoped managed bean as in the following faces-config.xml file.
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="windows-1252"?>
<!DOCTYPE faces-config PUBLIC
"-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.//DTD JavaServer Faces Config 1.1//EN"
"http://java.sun.com/dtd/web-facesconfig_1_1.dtd">
<faces-config xmlns="http://java.sun.com/JSF/Configuration">
<managed-bean>
<managed-bean-name>ShuttleBean</managed-bean-name>
<managed-bean-class>com.fmcna.adf.test.view.ShuttleBean</managed-bean-class>
<managed-bean-scope>session</managed-bean-scope>
</managed-bean>
<application>
<default-render-kit-id>oracle.adf.core</default-render-kit-id>
</application>
</faces-config>3. Create a JSP page containing an af:selectManyShuttle with a nested f:selectItems component. Wire the values for these components to the properties in the managed bean.
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"
"http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
<%@ page contentType="text/html;charset=windows-1252"%>
<%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/html" prefix="h"%>
<%@ taglib uri="http://java.sun.com/jsf/core" prefix="f"%>
<%@ taglib uri="http://xmlns.oracle.com/adf/faces" prefix="af"%>
<f:view>
<html>
<head>
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type"
content="text/html; charset=windows-1252"/>
<title>testShuttle</title>
</head>
<body><h:form>
<af:selectManyShuttle value="#{ShuttleBean.selectedItems}" valuePassThru="true">
<f:selectItems value="#{ShuttleBean.availableItems}"/>
</af:selectManyShuttle>
<af:commandLink text="Postback"/>
</h:form></body>
</html>
</f:view>4. Run the JSP. Validate that the trailing list is initially empty.
5. Shuttle one or more items to the trailing list and click the Postback button. Validate that when the page refreshes the trailing list is again empty.
Thanks for any input you might be able to provide.

1) Music
2) Videos (except sometimes in Vista)
3) Photos (as long as they're not too large)
but is terrible for:
1) calendar
2) contacts
3) To-Do lists
For the latter use something like "iGadget" (www.ipodsoft.com). I also edit/store notes w/iGadget plus it allows you to export files, etc.
I gave up on syncing iTunes w/Outlook long ago. Good luck. -
JBO-25001 Business Components Error
Hi to all,
I am experiencing some VERY STRANGE behaviour in JDeveloper ADFBC.
I am using Jdeveloper 10.1.3.1.0.3984 to build an application using ADF and Business Components.
I have four tables, JAAS_USERS, JAAS_ROLES, JAAS_REALMS and JAAS_MAPPINGS. The only associations are that JAAS_MAPPINGS have JAAS_USERS_ID, JAAS_ROLES_ID and JAAS_REALMS_ID.
I created my entities (package: datamodel.entities) and i have specified that JAAS_USERS entity use a DBSequence for USER_ID. Please note that i included control hints for every entity.
Then i created my first view (package: datamodel.views), called JaasUsers
that simply selects all attributes of the entity.
I then created an application module (package: datamodel) and i included the view. When i test the application module everything is fine!
I created a jsf and i dragged the view as a table -> read only table and everything was fine.
I then run the page and again everything is fine.
I then realized that i needed to change the control hint for some columns. Instead of changing the control hint of the entity (JAAS_USERS) i changed the object view (JAAS_USERS).
From this point and on NOTHING WORKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here is the error message:
(oracle.jbo.common.ampool.ApplicationPoolException) JBO-30003: The application pool (.110255D7D2E) failed to checkout an application module due to the following exception:

Please help me becuase i don;t know hot to fix this BUG!Hey ppl , I got an exact similar error when trying to migrate from a 10g R2 to R3 version in Jdeveloper. Quite irritating this error,
Well i guess most would have figured this out , but for benefit of all , theres a slightly easier way to tackle this ( JDEV Release 3)
in the Application Navigator view Double click your Association , within association properties un-check your expose accessor checkboxes for both the source and destination .Apply changes and do a compile. If it is required , jdev will throw an error. Simply follow the process again and check the Expose accessor boxes again. This solves the problem most of the time.
Main advantage being , you can avoid the tedious task of manually changing the xml information on Notepad or the kind.
Hope this helps.... -
Business Components and OAS 4.0.8
I have several projects running in JDeveloper - one of them being a BC4J project, the others a mix of servlets and classes that make use of the BC4J project to interact with the database.
I have successfully managed to deploy the Business components application to OAS, but I get stuck after that.
How do I make use of this deployed BC4J application through a JServlet application?Hi,
A colleague of mine mentioned that one may encounter problems deploying to OAS 4.0.8.
I understand that OAS 4.0.8.1 has major bug fixes and may make deployment substantially easier. Having not attempted either, I cannot verify his statement.
Hope you have success!

4) It seems that no manual code change is required if they are deployed in Oracle8i or VisiBroker whether they are deployed in Local or EJB or CORBA(the deployment wizard takes care of it). Is it same for OAS EJB deployment also?

How to create "Business Components Package" in the Jdeveloper ?
Hi,
I installed and set up "Patch 7523554 10G Jdeveloper With OA Extension ARU for R12 RUP6"
I have ran out the test_fwktutorial.jsp and test_fwklabsolutions.jsp.
All links work properly on these pages.
I created HelloWorld page from "Oracle Application Framework Toolbox Tutorials".
Its works properly too.
Then I started to create "Search Page".
I created "Business Component project" in the toolbox.jws.
I was trying to perform step 2.1 "Create the BC4J Package for Client (UI) Objects".
But I didn't find "Business Components Package" in the context menu.
Could you give me advice how can I create package of this kind ?
Thanks.I created "OA Workspace" and simultaneously with it created "Business Components Package" <yourname>.oracle.apps.ak.employee.
After this it i necessary to creates one more "Business Components Package" <yourname>.oracle.apps.ak.schema.server
I failed to create Package of this kind.
In the "BC4J Tutorial" It seems to me I found similr actions.
I suppose I may perform next step:
Figure 6-3 http://download.oracle.com/docs/html/A97671_01/wtgbc4j.htm#BABIAIEI
Figure 6-4 http://download.oracle.com/docs/html/A97671_01/wtgbc4j.htm#BABJIIII
But I failed to pass these steps.
Could you tell me, please, how to do this?

QST: Business Components from AIA Enterprise Business Service
Hi,
I'm new in ADF context. Ordinary I work with Oracle SOA Suite and AIA. We have a use case for customer with system integration over AIA. Now we will build a ADF Web Application and I found the "Business Components from AIA EBS".
- Will this wizard work with AIA 3.0 aka 11g?
- How to use this wizard? I save WSDL of EBS to local directory, but can't continue the wizard.
- Is it more compliant to use "normal" was of ADF and invoke Requester ABCS?
Bye
MarcelHello Robert,
I know this thread is quite old but I'd like to know whether anything has changed since then regarding the AIA Composite Application Framework extension? I've installed the extension (v 2.4) from a local zip archive (as installing through the update center failed - said it was installed but there was no new options under the Business tier) in Jdeveloper 11.1.1.1.5, had to change extension's paths to modules but still a wizard doesn't want to go to the next step, no error popup, no error in logs, nothing. Does it mean it's still not ready? According to the below site my environment fulfill all the requirements:
http://www.oracle.com/ocom/groups/public/@otn/documents/webcontent/131167.xml
What is the preferred approach for an UI integration then? A requester ABCS seems to be an overhead and misconception to me but maybe I'm wrong :)
Thanks,

JDev 10.1.3.3 - issues with imported Business Components
Hi,
I have got some issues with importing Business Components in JDev 10.1.3.3.
I cannot discover/use the imported components.
What I did is the folowing:
1. In a existing project I extended the default base-classes to create our own layer
2. created a project called ModelShared
2a. configured the project to use the base-classes I created in step 1
2b. created an entitybased-viewobject (RefCodesByDomain)
2c. created bc deployment-descriptors
3. created a project called RelatieModel in the same workspace as ModelShared
3a. added dependencies to the deployment-descriptors as well as the project created in step 2
3b. configured the project to use the base-classes I created in step 1
3c. imported business components
Although I did not recieve any errors during the import of business components, I am unable to add the vo (RefCodesByDomain) to a service.
I do see the package which contains the vo but is has no entries.
Importing the business components to a new BC Project in a seperate workspace did succeed (I could reuse the vo).
I tested a little further and the folowing occurred:
4. I created a new vo in the ModelShared Project
5. I deployed the ModelShared
6. Restarted JDeveloper
7. Got the folowing error message in the console window when expanding a service in my datacontrol pallette:

8. In my other "fresh" bc project I was able to use the newly created vo.
9. When I added a VO to my shared project, all projects that are refering to the shared project loose their vo's in the data-controlpannel
Do you have any suggestions?

RomanoHi,
since this appears to be a WebCenter related issue, I suggest to try the Webcenter forum WebCenter Portal or to log a bug

Business Components Import problem
Hi,
I am having trouble using the Imports option in the Project Properties of my Model project (Project Properties -> Business Components -> Imports). I have a jar that I want to import to the project. However, when I click the Import button, locate my file and click Open, nothing happens. It doesn't import the jar, nor does it close the Import File dialog.
Is this a bug? I am able to get around it for now by modifying the Model.jpr and Model.jpx files but this isn't a long term solution.
Thanks,
TracyIf you are attempting to import ADF BC objects packaged in a jar/adflib this is a known issue in the preview that has been resolved in more recent builds.
