Bug in Ringtone App requires Reinstall of iOS

I have an iPhone 4S and an iPad. The iPad is on 7.0.6 and the iPhone on 7.1.1.
I was looking for a Ringtone App the other day and installed, browsed through and did I can't remember what with these 5 apps: TextTones, AlertTones, Ringtones, Text Tones, and Ringtones #1 by byss mobile (I can't see the full name of it from the main window).
Anyway, my alert tones don't work any more. External speaker is completely fine it's only alert/notification sounds.
It is not resolved by a factory reset.
It is not resolved by setting it up as a new iPhone.
I'm sure it will be resolved when I reinstall iOS, which will probably get done this weekend.

Not unless you know how to fix it without reinstalling iOS :-)

  • Restored iPod to 4.2.1  Previously working apps now say "Update Required: This app requires IOS 4.3"

I recently restored my iPod Touch because e-mail, contacts, and calendar stopped working.  Upon restore, I noticed many apps failed to reinstall.  Apps like Yelp, Facebook, etc.  Roughly 10-15 in total are missing entirely. I can select the app in iTunes and move the icon but the application will not install.  If I install the app from the iPod its self, an error comes up saying "Update Required: This app requires IOS 4.3".  IOS 4.3 is not available for my iPod.
I don't care if I don't have the latest version on the App store, but I do want the latest version available for my device.
How do I install the latest compatible version from the App store onto my iPod?
(I also have a new iPad.  I think that had a part to play in replacing the compatible apps with incompatible ones.)

We're all getting caught out by that one. Time for some feedback to Apple...

  • My Twitter app requires an iOS 4.0 update but I have a first generation touch, can it be updated?.

My Twitter app had some sort of bug where whenever I opened it, it showed a draft of one of my previous tweets. I deleted it and was going to reload it to see if it fixed the problem but when I tried to install the Twitter app again this message showed up Update Required "This app requires iOS 4.0" I have a first generation iPod Touch and I'm not sure if that update is available for my Touch? I hope someone can help, I love my touch and I love my Twitter app.

Highest iOS for the first generation is 3.1.3

OK, I understand that new versions make use of facilities that come with new versions of IOS, but there is/was a version that runs on 3.1.3 and therefore, I assume 4.2.1. Where can I get the (old) version that runs on my IOS?
The app store seems to ignore all legacy equipment owners, and want me to spend loadsa money to get the latest shiny toy. It probably makes business sense, but I dislike companies that take that approach. This is my first venture into smart phones, and I like the IOS interface, but I'm not sure I can afford the maintenance.

This is standard for Apple.  While there is little official mention of the software support lifespan for equipment, typical support has been about 4-5 years for computers.  It strikes me that newer items, especially mobile devices, are not built as sturdily nor do they have the hardware upgrade capabilities required to keep up with newer systems.  When we bought an iPhone 4S we were told by the person in the store we'd probably be looking at a newer model in two years.  The iPhone 3G could be anywhere from 2 to 4 years old, putting it well into.
As for app availability, Apple typically pulls old software versions from its site when new versions appear.  If it is a non-Apple app then I guess it is up to the vendor. It is indeed tiresome but it is not at all unusual.  Since I only ever run used Macs, I download current versions even though my computer won't run them, stick them on a hard drive, then I have them when I upgrade to a newer used computer.  If you run older equipment you have to learn a different mode of operation to exist with the Apple 'new and innovative' but 'forget about the old' philosophy.

Also, are you sure yo have a 2G iPod?

  • That stopped updating with ios 4.2.1 currently almost every app requires ios 4.3or higher. what do i do with my iphone

i have problem with my iphone 3G that stopped updating with ios 4.2.1 currently almost every app requires ios 4.3or higher. what do i do with my iphone

App developers decide on what iOS versions to support with their apps. Also, Apple has identified certain updates that are necessary for particular applications. The only way to continue using certain apps on the iPhone 3G is to not update your apps if they require a higher iOS to operate. When you get ready to update an app, it will say what iOS is works on, and if it requires higher than the iOS you have, do not update. The only other alternative is to replace the device with a newer model.

    You cannot.

The iphone 3g was released 5 years ago.  This is very old in tech terms.

See the chart below to determine whether you can upgrade your device and what you can upgrade to. If you do not have a Software Update option present on your iDevice, then you are trying to upgrade to iOS 5 or higher. You will have to connect your device to your computer and open iTunes in order to upgrade.

my ipod touch 1st gen keeps on saying when i come to download an app it says update required this app requires ios 4.3 please help

Sorry, but there is nothing you can do other than buy a newer iPod. A 1st-generation iPod touch cannot run any version of iOS later than 3.1.3 and hence cannot run any app that requires a newer version.

  • App-specific passwords: are they required for the iOS versions of iMessage and Facetime?

I was recently prompted to generate app-specific passwords for iMessage and FaceTime on my Mac. The process went reasonably smoothly, but after doing this I wondered whether I'll need to do the same on my iOS devices.
The Apple Support page Using app-specific passwords - Apple Support offers no clues about which Apple apps require them and on which devices.
As a test, I tried signing out of iMessage on my iPhone, and signing back in with my regular Apple ID password, not an app-specific one. This worked fine, therefore I assume the iOS versions of iMessage and Facetime do not need app-specific passwords.
On the other hand, I've read some of the articles which state that the iOS versions of iMessage and Facetime will require app-specific passwords:
      http://arstechnica.com/apple/2015/02/apple-extends-two-factor-authentication-to- facetime-and-imessage/
Does this mean that app-specific passwords have simply not been "rolled out" to my devices yet, and we'll be prompted to generate app-specific passwords on iOS at some random time in the future?
If so, that's a problem for non-technical users in my household on whose behalf I look do setup and security. It will effectively mean iMessage will stop working for them, until I can take a look at the issue. This is not always something that can be done quickly if we're in different locations.
If I pre-empt the roll-out by visiting https://appleid.apple.com/account/manage/security and generate and install an app-specific passwords for them anyway, before the prompt appears, will this work?

So far the app specific passwords were only required for 3rd party apps, not for "Apple apps". Not sure why you cannot use trusted device verification for iMessage and FT like on the App store or iTunes. or on Apple TV.
Having to generate a different  app specific password for every device that uses iMessage or FT is a pain, but I guess the powers that be at Apple feel it is more secure.

5.1.1. is the end of the line for the original iPad. You can't go beyond that. As for the safari crashes, is it tied to specific websites? Have you tried clearing the cache and history?
