Building to loop short video - but it cancelled

Hi,
I'm brand new to DVDSP -- using the software provided by work. I do not have a manual.
I would like to take my compressed FCP files that are .m2v + .aiff and put them into dvdsp so that the video (totalling less than 15 mins) will play continuously on a computer.
I followed the instrux on an apple page to do this in DVDSP, and even simulated it and let it run through once to see if it would keep on playing -- and it did.
I congratulated myself for a job well followed, put a dvd in to burn the thing, and thought I was home free until I saw that the build was cancelled. "Building was not successful. See log."
I see the log but can't for the life of me figure out what the heck to do.
For anyone with some time to kill -- here's what the log says:
Starting DVD Build PROFBLUE_LOOPED...
Compiler Initializing...
Precompiling Project PROFBLUE_LOOPED
Compiling VMG Information...
Created 6 PGCs in VTSM1
Created 8 PGCs in VMG.
0 Menu(s) will be created...
Compiling Menu PGCs...
Writing VTS010.VOB
Writing VIDEO_TS.VOB
1 VTSs and 1 Titles will be created...
Compiling VTS#1 (Track 1)...
Writing VTS010.VOB
Muxing VTS011.VOB
Build cancelled
Building was not successful. See log.
Do any of youse all have ideas as to what I can try to do in order to burn the thing for more better and enjoyable looping lifestyle?
Thanking you in advance,
As Always,
HeirBetty

I'm not certain why you don't have the manual if you are using it at work.
What were your sequence settings in FCP and what encode settings did you use in Compressor?

i need any videos i shoot on my iphone, to go to the cloud automatically (when i get an icloud account). the demos show pics and docs going directly, but the demos are ambiguous about short videos i shoot on my phone....not backed up nightly, but available soon.  help?

Since photo stream doesn't support videos, you would need to use an app to do this.  Dropbox may be a good choice as I believe once enabled, all you have to do is open the app and it will automatically upload photos and videos taken since the last upload to your Dropbox account (see https://www.dropbox.com/help/289/en).  If you aren't familiar with Dropbox, it's a very popular cloud service for hosting files and other media.  Amazon just announced that its Cloud Drive service will soon support photos (http://9to5mac.com/2013/05/10/amazon-launches-cloud-drive-photos-app-for-iphone) /; perhaps it will also be extended to support videos at some point.

You need an app for that. Apple's iMovie app (for iPhone and iPad) does that just fine, but there may be others.

  • Good 2-way video but audio clear only 1-way

The problem is with audio during Mac-to-PC AV chats.
I'm using an iSight on a 15" PowerBook (10.3.9) with cable ISP (tested 356kbps up / 3mbps down). The PC is newer Dell running Windows XP with Quickcam Fusion and similar cable ISP performance.
The Mac and PC achieve good video and the PC receives good audio, but for some reason the Mac receives choppy, unusable audio and sometimes none at all.
We followed all of the posts to make sure correct ports are opened on both ends, that SP2 and extra component are installed on the PC, that the PC's mic records correctly, etc. Went through the tuning wizards, the full duplex settings, fiddling in/out volumes, echo cancellation, bit rates and cps, etc. -- all of the things recommended by EZJim's posts and the links therein, plus all of the ideas gleaned from Logitech and iVisit and anywhere else we could Google (but obviously we're missing something
First I tried iChat (2.1) to AIM (5.9) -- could not hear any audio at all from the PC.
Next I tried iVisit 3.4.3 -- audio was trying to get through but was heavily clipped.
Next, both parties connected to the iVisit Help Desk. The PC-PC connection was good for both audio and video. The help desk PC-Mac connection was good for video but once again the audio was too choppy to be intelligible.
I connected to the iChat user test account at appleu3test01 and achieved excellent video and the incoming audio was excellent too.
Using headphones to eliminate any potential feedback loop (even after trying with speaker volume way down) had negligible effect on Mac-PC connections.
Anyone else experience this problem? Any ideas? On the surface, the problem seems to be with how the PC sends audio or how the Mac receives it -- but I've overlooked the obvious before so...
I can give more specific details as to what we've tried. Appreciate any help!
    Thanks -sailhome

EZ Jim -- thanks for staying with this -- I respect all the time and detail you are putting into helping.
--- info still shows that you are using Mac OS X (10.3.6) ---
Sorry to confuse you. I'm definitely on 10.3.9. I don't post very often and hadn't updated my profile recently. (FWIW, I still have the iMac shown in the profile Anyhow, no 10.3.6 issues lurking.
--- using wireless internet connections ---
I am using an Airport but it passes all the criteria. The Airport sits immediately behind the cable modem and the modem is not serving DHCP, only the Airport does that (no address conflicts). The Mac OS firewall is in place, but I have followed the instructions to open firewall ports per http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93208 -- in fact I opened all of 5060, 5190, 5297, 5298, 5353, 5678, 16384-16403 to make certain nothing gets blocked.
The computer is achieving 356kbps/3mbps wirelessly (dslreports) and has full bars in connection status. There have not been any packet error messages. The computer does not compete for bandwidth during AV sessions. I could hook the computer directly to the modem but given the high level of performance it does seem unlikely bandwidth is the problem.
         --- Connection Doctor ---
Here are three observations from recent sessions:
    1) Using iChat-to-AIM the video quality stayed pegged at 100%, the frame rates hovered between 12-13fps, and the bit rates hovered at ~180kbps.
    2) Using iChat-to-AIM the audio icon was dimmed, neither party heard audio and Connection Doctor showed zero audio activity. Audio simply not available. This is perplexing because previously the PC could hear my audio fine, it was just my Mac that couldn't hear their audio.
    3) Using iVisit (I know you aren't familiar with it), video hovered at 25-30fps and bit rates hovered at 130-150kbps. Audio operated at a constant 32kbps (ADPCM setting). Bandwidth utilization was set to cap at 500kbps so there was plenty available had the application wanted it -- the point being that bandwidth does not appear to be a limiting factor in performance between the other party and myself.
It appears there is enough broadband speed for iChat
--- That is about all I know about "packets". You seem to know more about packets ---
Only enough to ask dangerous questions
--- If the problem occurs only occasionally ---
I'll need to develop more AV buddies to reach a conclusion on that. My two buddy experiences with Mac-PC connection are consistent (bad audio). I'm in the process of making some Mac-based AV contacts -- would you be interested in testing a brief chat?
My Mac operates fine (no quirks), is up to date (on Panther), I do the repair permissions protocol before/after every software install, etc.
ISP connection is an interesting proposition -- but could that be the problem if video is running so smoothly both directions? I would think that if bandwidth were dodgy then video would fizzle out at least as quickly as audio (and probably faster since audio requires comparatively little bandwidth). Is there some sort of priority given to video when it comes to bandwidth utilization within the connection?
From what I have gleaned, for Mac-PC connections the only free apps that currently support full AV chats are iChat-AIM and iVisit, so doesn't appear there will be other apps to compare against unless we start spending more money.
         --- certain buddy problem ---
Checked out http://www.ralphjohnsuk.dsl.pipex.com/page15.html#CertainBuddy . That was interesting but none of matches my setup.
Maybe it's time to throw in the towel and try Skype simultaneously with one of the functioning video apps. Was hoping for simplicity but is seems we've gotten way beyond that with this one!...
Open to any more comments you (or anyone) have. Thanks again -sailhome

  • Next machine build coming. What video card?

My graphics computer is now a few years old, and I am about to build a couple of machines for myself and a colleague. As usual I'll be installing a high quality mother board, the fastest processor we can afford. loaded with as much matched memory as we can afford. Fast boot time is not a concern so we won't bother with any solid state drives, but we will probably install a quality hybrid drive for o/s and primarily CC applications, plus a honking big 10K rpm dedicated drive for a scratch disk.  In the past I have seen the value of a dedicated, fast, high capacity scratch drive, so a respectable part of the budget will go there.
But, also as usual, the question of choosing a graphics card has me in a quandary. All of the high end cards seem only to be described and reviewed for their use in gaming. Sure we have a lot in common with gamers, but not everything. My colleague and I do most of our work on still images, often having 100 layers at 4K resolution. Figuring 5K is here now, I expect the next graphics subsystem better be capable of 5K at least. I do a small amount of video, but usually for YouTube and I assume as long as a card is capable of producing video at that level, it should be OK. More important is fast refresh when using large brushes. My test of acceptable video performance is how well it keeps up when I use graphics intensive tools like the mixer brush or blur tool.
These will be Intel i7 based processors running Windows 7 initially, with plans to migrate to Windows 10 next autumn. Nothing against Apple, just not in our shop.
So folks. What graphic card would you recommend and why?

PixbyTed.    I am using that 980 GTX card at the moment (4gb ram - $500).  Been so for just short a month.   So far, mostly so good.   Viewport glitches I used to see working with my much older original Quadro4000 in these new Adobe apps are completely gone.  Working with 3D elements is smoother and definitely more capable.   i didn't bother before with my older Quadro cards.  Thin horizontal line issues I used to have are gone.   I would say that I'm not really impressed with the speed of working with Mixer brushes if the ppi is very high.  I was hoping for more there.  Maybe some top tier Quadro cards (6000?) make these work. Maybe updates to better recognize this card will help in the near future.  I still have that lag behind my mixer brushes even if working slowly.  Of course it works much better on smaller and lower resolution or web images.  Others have said these cards aren't a huge leap over 780ti(costly still).  I never used one of those, or GTX 650 or 550 Ti's.   We also are almost exclusively intel pc users here. The recent workstation we built is of the most recent from HP with high levels of ram and all solid state drives.  It's a shame I still can't get real time mixer brush use going. It's an amazing feature. One day I would like to try someone's machine that can actually use those mixer brushes like we all would expect them to work.   My guess is some of the newer touch apps on mobile tablets will beat me to that punch.  We took a shot at this 980gtx card as the midrange Quadro's are just not keeping up right now.  $500 verses junk midrange Quadros in the 1k to 3k range works for me now.  Some of those older titaniums with insane cuda cores amounts and larger video ram amounts that have been approved for a while might be the best shot at this moment if you can find them.  Titans are behind yet.  From what I've read, some interesting yet probably costly updates to Quadro and Titan lines will be of significant help in the kind of images/video you might be working with.
The 980gtx is recognized by photoshop and others with the most recent updates.  At first install early December, both AE and PS warned it wasn't accepted.  After updates mid December it was recognized.  I still haven't pushed it hard with Premiere or AE and haven't done any 4K video yet. Can't report use on that.  I'm wowing some people with point cloud usability in other apps at the moment however.  For some things this card, with it's gaming drivers, is amazing and already showing its value.  I've seen a few glitches such as dialog window focus problems in PS pop up now and then.  Still not sure if it's card related or not, and it's not all the time.  Hope this helps.

  • Loop a video asset in Encore CS5

I need to be able to add over 100 short video assets to a project and have each video play continuously until the next button it hit on a remote which will advance to the next video in the list. Is this possible? I need each video to loop as it will play at an event and we don't know how long the video will need to play until we need to advance to the next section/video. Last time I had to do this I just repeated the video clip for a really long time so that we would be ensured that it would not advance to the next video, But I feel sure there is a better way to do this.

What you need is scripting, which Encore does not provide.
I would play with putting each video on its own timeline. Use multiple menus to branch. Use 4:3 menus even if the videos are 16:9, so you can get more buttons on a screen. You cou ld try making them black so they might not jar with the different aspect ratio of the videos. Use very short transitions and/or motion on the menus to make the menu appearance less disruptive. (Trade off with number of menus re the 1 gig limit for menus.)
For many of the videos, you are now 2 clicks away: click one "menu" (the menu option that will take you to the previous menu), then use the remotge control numbers to select the next track.
When submenu 1 is exhausted, you go back to main menu (title menu), and select submenu 2.
Yes, the operator must know what they are doing.

  • How to loop a video on my iPhone

how to loop a video on my iphone

Firstly you need to find out your operators supports call transfer, then you need to obtain the call transfer short code.  For example for Vodafone UK with OneNetExpress, the code is '4'
To transfer a call using iPhone is quite longwinded but this is the process:
Create a contact called 'Transfer' and store the operator code e.g '4' as the number.
When you are on a call that you wish to transfer you first need to call your recipient and tell them you have a call for them.  Then go back into your contacts and call your 'transfer' contact.  This will then hand the call over and you can disconnect.

  • How do I repeat loop a video file from iPod Touch to Apple TV ?

I have an iPod Touch that is a few years old but running the latest software update.  I want to loop a video to then play through Apple TV onto 2 panels at the front of our shop.  I have saved the file as a video and Music Video (using Get Info etc) but neither version in the iPod touch will supply the repeat function - it works fine from my MacBook Pro but I cannot leave this in the shop overnight.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated - evern if a third party app that actually works.  Thanks in advance, Shaun.

  • IPhoto downloads some pix & video but not others in the same format

For the past two weeks iPhoto is giving me error messages on some of the photos and videos I try to import from my SD card. I never had this problem before but it will import some of the photos and MPEG-4 videos but at the end, it lists all the ones it can't import.
For the photos it lists them all as below with the message that they are unreadable files. Then it says "The following files could not be imported (they may be an unrecognized file type or the files may not contain valid data.)
    /Volumes/NO NAME/DCIM/100SSCAM/STH73614.JPG
    /Volumes/NO NAME/DCIM/100SSCAM/STH73615.JPG
    /Volumes/NO NAME/DCIM/100SSCAM/STH73616.MP4
    /Volumes/NO NAME/DCIM/100SSCAM/STH73617.JPG
As you can see they all have valid file type extensions. It's particular odd because I downloaded a very short video clip I shot with no problem but did not download the one I shot just seconds before because "this is not a movie file."
Curiously I was able to download the pix and videos on my work Windows computer. But I had to email them to myself in order to be able to get them into an iPhoto album.
Once I get these latest ones off the SD card I will reformat it. I assume the problem is with the card, right?

    Jane:
Once you get the files off the memory card use the camera to reformat the card before using again. Other users have reported similar issues and a reformat in the camera solved their issue.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

    Hello,
A wild guess, given the lack of details:
I wonder whether it would violate the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Same-origin_policy ?
This is part of the security infrastructure.
"Stealing" content to insert it anywhere else might also violate copyrights?
Technically, does it at least work "on premises" onto WLS 10.3.6?
    Regards

  • Mom does not see my iChat video, but I see her, and my wife can see mine

When I iChat with Mom, I can see her, but she cannot see my iChat video. All she sees is herself as if she is still in iChat preview mode. Audio works fine. It is like a 1-way video chat with a 2-way audio chat, only we did not request this mode.
This was working for years (from when Mac OS X Panther first offered iChat video chats). Mom only seeing herself is a fairly new situation, but I can not pin down when it started, or what might have triggered it.
My wife can connect with my Mom, and again, my Mom's display stays in preview mode, but my wife can see my Mom, same as I see, only my wife is using her own MacBook Pro.
When I'm at Mom's using my MacBook, I can iChat with my wife. She can see me and I can see her. My wife and I can also successfully iChat video chat when she is away on business trips using the hotel's WiFi. I do not think it is my MacBook, nor my wife's MacBook Pro.
And also while at Mom's with my laptop right next to Mom's iMac G4 using a Bonjour local connection, I see what Mom is sending, but she stays in preview mode only seeing herself.
So I think I've eliminated the internet as a whole, and I've eliminated my MacBook as being the cause.
I really think it is Mom's iMac G4.
I've tried trashing all the iChat related .plist files, but I could have missed something.
Mom's Connection Doctor says it is getting stuff from me at between 13 and 15 frames/second, but all that is shown is her own iSight image.
    Some configuration details:
o Mom's 1.25GHz G4 PowerPC iMac is Mac OS X Tiger (10.4.11) all the latest updates.
o Mom uses the original firewire iSight.
o While I think I've eliminated the router, it is an 802.11n Airport Extreme (single transmitter in 802.11b/g/n 2.4GHz mode, channel 1).
o Verizon DSL connection that has worked just fine in the past, beside same situation occurs when I'm sitting next to Mom using a Bonjour connection.
o Mom is 300 miles away, so I can not just drop in. However, I do have VNC access to Mom's system over an ssh tunnel.
    o Firewall is Off
o My 2GHz intel Core 2 Duo white MacBook is Mac OS X Leopard (10.5.8) all the latest updates (w/build-in iSight camera).
o My wife has an intel 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo MacBook Pro running Mac OS X Leopard (10.5.8) all the latest updates (w/build-in iSight camera).
o My router is also an 802.11n Airport Extreme (single transmitter in 802.11n 5GHz only mode), with an older flying saucer Airport Extreme 802.11g in bridge mode to support older Macs and iPod Touchs.
o My broadband is also a Verizon DSL connection.
    o Firewall is Off.
Events that have happened recently. I'm not saying they are the cause, but generally things that did work do not stop working for no reason at all.
    o I've applied Apple's Software Updates.
o I've experimented with TeamViewer.com as an alternative to VNC for remote control (this did not involve video, but it was something new to the mix). NOTE: I DO NOT keep TeamViewer running. I find my VNC via OSXvnc to be satisfactory.
o My nephew moved back in with his Mom (my sister) and his Dad, which is where my Mom happens to live. However, my nephew has his own 12" G4 PowerBook, so he does not need to mess with Mom's. But then again, years ago, I found my Mom's previous Bondi Blue iMac had its web server enabed after a visit from my nephew. Of course now he is a college gradate and much more responsible. Oh yea my nephew was a College Quarterback for a Top Ten College, and I'm a bookworm type. I am not going to accuse my nephew of doing something to his grandmother's iMac unless I have absolute proof
o At one time I had the Chax plug-in installed on Mom's iMac G4. I used Chax to uninstall itself.
I'm stumped. I've tried all the problem isolation things I could think of, as well as the tried and true "Delete the .plist" trick (assuming I found the right .plist(s)).
Has anyone actually lived through this, solve it for someone else, other.

I would do the Latest Combo Installer for the OS level she is at.
That is going to have to wait until after Thanksgiving.
While I'm confident that applying/re-applying the latest Combo Update will not cause any problems, if anything goes wrong (and I know Murphy personally), I will not be able to drive the 300 miles to Mom's house until the weekend following the Thanksgiving weekend.
If I'm going to try doing something like this remotely, I'm not going to do it unless I can get in the car and be a Mom's house the next morning to clean up any mess I create.
So I will put your idea in my "To Do" list (I'll even create a Google Calendar event), to try this 4-Dec-2009.
Thank you for the idea. If I have not found a solution before the 4th, I will install the Combo update.
But I do have a question. Why would Mom's iChat display the video preview window showing what her iSight camera sees, if she was unable to display the remote video stream, just because there was a ColorSpace issue. Hay, I write software for a living, so I know that the left hand does not need to know what the right hand is doing, not the big toe, the elbow, an ear, etc... Software is full of paradoxes. But I figured I would just ask.
And I'm still going to give the Combo update a try on 4-Dec-2009.
But in the mean time. Other suggestions would be appreciated.
Does anyone have a laundry list of .plist files I should try deleting? I did try deleting some obvious ones, but maybe I missed something important, or maybe there is one that does not say iChat, but is just as important.
You never know, if I get enough ideas (tons of ideas), and they all still fail, and I'm frustrated beyond belief, maybe I'll break down and get Mom a nice 27" iMac for Christmas! But if I do that, I'm getting one for me first

  • Short video playback jittery

    Greetings,
I started having a very weird issue since last two updates for firefox (currently showing 33.1) on my weaker machine. The videos such as posts marked as GIF (not actually gifs but seem to be short videos in mp4 or webm format) on the popular 9gag website started behaving strangely.
The playback became extremely choppy with the video skipping 2-5 frames backwards and forwards, making everything look like a pop music video. I cannot seem to find anyone else having this issue and after extensive googling and exploring the knowledge base I came up with nothing. Youtube works fine, no other machine so far has the same problem either. It makes no difference if I play the video on main page or open in a new tab. Resetting firefox did not help resolve the issue.
Sadly I cannot make a good screenshot to help show the issue as it only appears during actual playback.

Checked the xine engine options. It was already set to xv. I have never used anything but xv, so I don't know what changing this could do. Some settings don't work.

  • Recording short videos to post to website

i would like to record short videos directly into my computer of one person at a time talking directly into the camera, edit these videos, and post to my website. it would be great to be able to add short bits of music, but not essential.
i do a fair amount of basic audio editing on protools and am comfortable with the process, but have never worked with video.
i have a powerbook g4/os x 10.4.9 and will be recording into imovie. what should i consider when purchasing a camcorder? should i consider software other than imovie? many thanks for any advice. and if i've left out key info, please let me know.
    pb g4   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

I wouldn't use iSight or any type of webcam for this purpose - you just won't get any sort of quality and you'll get no flexibility.
A fine domestic camcorder for your purposes would be, I suggest, something like a Sony DCR-HC96, which has an imaging chip bigger than the usual domestic camcorder fare. This will give you a decent enough image and some low light capacity as well.
If you want something a little more advanced with better manual controls, look at the Panasonic GS-500.
If they are too expensive for your needs, any firewire (iLink) enabled minidv tape based camcorder would be suitable for your purposes - just ensure that it has the ability to transfer back from the computer to the camcorder should you want to export any final material to tape.
If, however, you're certain you don't need this feature (i.e your stated purpose of exporting to the web, or to export to DVD), you won't need this feature (DV in as well as DV out)
Steer away from DVD or hard drive camcorders as these pose problems editing wise - why make things difficult for yourself?
For your stated purpose (talking head interviews) I don't
see the need to consider anything more than iMovie at the moment - if, at any stage, you feel you need more from your editing software, you can make the relatively inexpensive leap to Final Cut Express, but be prepared for a bit of a learning curve.

But none of the 11 videos is housed in an Event. They are just 11 short videos in a row. I tried to make an empty folder to name as RISE UP, but the application would not let me do that.
If the files have not yet been imported to iMovie '08 then select the "Import Movie..." File menu option. When the import window opens, in the lower area:
    a) Select your destination hard drive in the "Save to:" block
    b) Select the "Create new Event:" radio button
    c) Name the new event
    d) Select whether you want the files copied or moved to the new event
Now navigate to and select the files you want to import in the upper half of the window. (You can select individual files; multiple, non-contiguous files; or a contiguous range of files.) Press import when done making your selection(s).
