Built in cellular vs hot spot on verizon phone on iPad air

I am planning to purchase an ipad air and i'm not sure if i should get the cellular vesion or just use my verizon iphone as a hot spot.
What are the pros and cons?

I personally purchased an iPad 3rd Gen Wi-Fi + Cellular thinking that I would use cellular feature but the fact is that I have never activated the cellular portion of it. It sits unused. The device is connected to Wi-Fi 95% of the time. The time that I need internet access away from home, I tether it to my iPhone 4 or iPhone 5. I don't believe that I'll ever purchase another iPad with cellular if there are alternate ways to connect to the internet for much less money. Just my personal opinion. I hope this helps you out. Merry Christmas!

  • Can use use your iphone 4s as a hot spot to connect to a ipad

can i use my iphone 4s with hot spot to connet to my ipad.  if so is secure for paying bills and banking.

You can use it if your carrier supports it. Some carriers charge an extra fee to use it, or they used to back in the day. The hotspot will be as secure as the banking website that you use. I think it is incumbent on the institution to make sure that their websites are secure. I don't think you should have any worries.

  • Android  DT automated  app installer now spotted on Verizon phones, is your phone clean? ?

Android bloatware alert: DT Ignite automated app installer spotted on T-Mobile, Verizon phones | PCWorld

If you read about it, it is quite scary.
It allows the carrier to get into your phone and install software such as promotions, ads, banners, etc.
The software can bypass the installer and install it self without your knowledge or consent.
It can also install bloatware which uses the metered data you use at your expense.
Right now it has been on the note 4 and the Lg g3 (from what I read).
It is real and currently in all the news.  The crazy thing about the software is that it is granted access to all information on your phone and can install anything it wants w/o your knowledge or consent...actually you can't even say no or uninstall it.  Currently the only phones that seem to be immune are the nexus phones and of course any windows/apple products.

  • Is it possible to purchase cellular service while traveling in Japan for an Ipad Air?

I am traveling to Japan and would like to know if it is possible to purchase cell service for my Ipad Air for several weeks?  What are the possible cell providers?

I would rather look into renting a MiFi device. It's a small, portable WiFi router connected to a cellular carrier. The advantage is that you can connect up to 5 devices (usually). I've done this when traveling to countries other than Japan and it worked exceptionally well for me.
I did a quick Google search for "rent mifi japan" and came up with several options.

  • Do any of the iPad models have built-in wi-fi hot spot?

I'm  trying to decide whether to get an iPad; I'm wondering if they have built in wi-fi at all or you have to get wifi separately?

All iPads have built in Wifi receivers. So they can connect to any Wifi network around them.
If by Wifi you mean Internet Access, then no The iPads do not magically create internet on their own.
They either need to connect to a Wifi network or to a cellular network(this is not Wifi) for internet access.
Cellular capable iPads can connect to Cellular networks for Internet Access and can share this internet access to other Wifi enabled devices via Personal Hotspot as long as the cellular carrier offerring the service and the plan being used support Personal Hotspot.

  • TS2756 does it matter if you have att iphone hot spot but verizon ipad for wifi connection

does it matter if you have att iphone hotspot but verizon ipad for wifi connection

If you are wanting to use the Verizon iPad as the hotspot you will need a Verizon plan.
If you are going to connect your Verizon iPad to your iPhone AT&T hotspot via WiFi it makes no difference at all.

  • HT3574 bluetooth and hot spot iphone5 to Ipad 2 and Mac????

Hi, I just got an Iphone 5 and first of all I am not able to pair my Ipad and Mac to the Iphone with Bluetooth. I also just got the personal hotspot on the Iphone 5 but I doesn't work with bluetooth, nor with USB  clabe and neither with the other network.
    Thanks
    Sara

Hi - thanks for your response.
I do not use bluetooth - Should I.  I am using the hot spot capability  with the new Ipad Air in the same way that I used it with my Mac Book pro.  I have reset the connection but not restored the IOS as yet since it is only one month old.  I have the new Air.  I thought that the connection was supposed to use cellular data "on" and "personal hot spot on"  that enables the phone to act like a WiFi connection similar to a router we have at home.  I learned from a discussion with Apple that the Ipad once it goes to sleep will disconnect from the network.
To be clear I - I got the Ipad to use as an internet/mail connection using the Iphone hot spot in lieu of lugging along the Mac Book Pro.
Hopefully that clarifies any issues.  I will not really know until I go back to my New Mexico House is signal strength is an issue.  I think not
    thanks

    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

Note - When troubleshooting wifi connection problems, don't hold your iPad by hand. There have been a few reports that holding the iPad by hand, seems to attenuate the wifi signal.

  • IPhone 5 as a hot spot?

Ok, so my wife and I have always used the Android systems for our smart phones.  We each have the internet package on our phones and until recently, we both had the hot spot on our phones.  Recently, my wife updated to the iPhone 5, and we can't figure out how to make it work as a hot spot.  Please help!!  We need internet at the house for the kids for school, and that is how our tablets and computer access the internet.  i work as a FF and work 24hrs shifts, so my phone is not always available.  How do we fix this??

hotspot its under general, cellular, then scroll down and it will say personal hotspot.  I do believe unless you have a qualifying plan the hotspot use must be active from verizon. I pay $20 for 2 GB of hotspot usage.  Good Luck

  • IPad wifi hot spot

What is the best wifi hot spot to buy for the iPad and my laptop?

I purchased my iPad along with a Verizon MIFI 2200 in a promo that Verizon offered back in November. I have had great success with it. Up to 5 devices at a time can share the connection but I've only used it with two devices at once.
I did not sign a contract - I go month to month - my plan is 5GB for $30.00 a month. Check it out here.

  • Had mobile hot spot with 5g and then they moved it into my share paln

What a rip off.  We went in to upgrade two phones..$400 and they told me I should change my family plan to a new share everything plan & it would be cheaper.  What a scam. Now I get 2 gig data to share with a mobile hot spot & 2 data phones.  The old plan had 5 g on the mobile hotspot FOR $50/MO.
THEY DID NOT INFORM ME THAT THe HOT SPOT WOULD HAVE TO SHARE DATA WITH THE REST OF THE PHONES. Now , on day after it's too late to return the upgrade phones & go back to my old plan I GET A WARNING THAT I'M OVER THE DATA ALLOWANCE.. Customer service did nothing but charge me $ 10 more a month until the contract runs out on the hot spot and then I tell them to put it where the, take this &  you know.... the thing never worked very well in the first place. I think they should have giving me some free data for the next few month a least.  Do you think they explain the so called up grades well????

When did the plan go into affect has it been more than 24 hours?

  • I have an I phone 4 and I had to reset the phone.  I lost my WiFi hot spot in the settings.  How do I get it back?

I have lost my WiFi hot spot on my phone after resetting it How do I get it back?

    - Transfer your iTunes' purchases to the new computer by:
iTunes Store: Transferring purchases from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to a computer
    - Try making a backup of the iPod by right clicking on the iPod  under Devices in iTunes and selecting Backup.
    - Connect your new iPod and restore the iPod from that backup if you wish.

  • I have an iphone 5 w/hot spot but am traveling out of the country. If I turn off cellular data

I HAVE AN IPHONE 5W/HOT SPOT VERIZON PLAN AND AM TRAVELING OUT OF THE COUNTRY.
IF I TURN OFF CELLULAR DATA AND DATA ROAMING TO AVOID DATA FEES, IT DISCONNECTS MY HOT SPOT.
IS THERE A WAY TO TURN DATA OFF AND STILL UTILIZE HOT SPOT?

    Hi Friend,
If you turn off Cellular Data you are unable to use hotspot.
But you can turn on Airplane Mode and them turn on Wifi, then you can use Wifi wherever you are with Wifi connection. But remember, if you turn on Airplane mode, it automatically turn off your Wifi, so you need to trun on it again,
    Hope it will be helpful
