Burning DVD problem with DVD media

Hi,
Hopefully someone can help me. I bought a Mac Mini and tried now to burn DVDs, with no success.
I used R- (Bulkpaq 4 X) and also Datawrite (R-, 4X), which I used in the past with my LiteOn external writer.
Unfortunate, both DVDs are not correctly recognized by the drive. Finder, Dragon Burn and Burnz writing to the DVD with 2X (instead of 4X). However this prevents that the dics are readable after burning.
I’m wondering if this is a drive or media problem and if anyone else had the same problem. If a media problem, than any recommendation what kind of media to use would be helpful.
yours frank

To rule out media issues I would recommend that you try either Verbatim or Apple branded media. Unfortunately DVD drives that are designed for laptops, which the mini has, tend to be a bit more finicky with the media you use.

  • Has anybody had problems with DVD's burnt with Optiarc drive

I am burning movie DVD's through iDVD. The movie formats are initially QT with PCM sound encoding. They seem to work well on an old Samsung DVD player, but stutter on a brand new Samsung computer. I do understand it could be a problem with the newer computer, but I would like to hear if anyone else has had any problems so I can see if the problem is more widespread.

I too am having trouble playing DVDs burned with my Optiarc drive. Sorry I don't have the solution, but I can add a data point to the story about problems with DVDs burned with Optiarc.
    My current hardware: mid-2007 24" iMac, built-in Optiarc DVD RW AD-5630A with firmware 1AHM / MMC-3.
My scenario: after making home movies with iMovie '08 and iDVD '08, I either burn to DVD (TDK 16x DVD-R 4.7 GB) straight from iDVD or I save as disc image from iDVD and then burn the disc image from Toast 9. In either scenario, I can play the DVD on my iMac or any other Mac or Windows computer. However, it will not play on my Xbox (original Xbox, not the 360) because it freezes when trying to mount (sometimes the Xbox will not recognize the disc as a DVD, and sometimes it will begin mounting the disc and then freeze before displaying the title menu).
Before I bought my new iMac, I had the same workflow on an older 2003 17" G4 iMac that has a Sony DVD burner, and those discs play fine on all DVD players including my Xbox. To test the hypothesis that something happened to my Xbox around the time that I upgraded to my mid-2007 24" iMac, I burned several DVDs using my older iMac, and they continue to mount and play fine on the Xbox. On both my older and newer iMac, I have Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard installed, same version of Toast 9, and I burn at the slowest speed (2x) on both. So it seems that the problem can be isolated to the Optiarc DVD burner, but I'm not sure if there are other factors at play here.
I searched the Optiarc site (www.sonynec-optiarc.com) but could not find a firmware update for the AD-5630A. However, I did find this site via Google:
Liggy's and Dee's modified NEC and Optiarc firmwares
    http://liggydee.cdfreaks.com/page/en/Optiarc-AD-5630A/
Because I was not sure about the site's reputation or validity of the firmware, I have not tried it yet.

  • Problem with DVD Player

I inherited this computer and have spent the last couple of months upgrading it. Put a gig of ram in and added a PCI card to help with a multi screen setup but now I have hit my first major head ache. I bought a Pioneer DVR - 104 off of ebay and installed it no problem. The only issue is once I went to test out my dvd feature I found I had no DVD player. I tried updating the system but it would not install it. So I finally was able to get 3.1 off of this site and it won't start up. It just blinks on the dock once and dissapears. I checked the specs and this machine came with the superdrive but my father opted out of it, why I don't know, so there should be no issues with the hardware, can anyone help me on this?

    Hi-
I'm sorry the extras is in OS 10.4- my mistake. In OS 10.3, I believe the DVD player is in the main package. I couldn't find it to install seperately. So.......
    Let me recap-
1- The DVR reads install discs
2- DVD's won't play because DVD player does not run
3- DVD-R discs show no response
    So-
    1- The DVR is reading
2- The version of DVD player may not be compatible
3- There is no burn support
To check burn support, in System Profiler, check if under Burn Support "Yes" is showing.
My current thinking is, that since there was no DVR in the origional configuration, you may need to reinstall (Archive and install) the OS 10.3 to get the proper DVD player installed. this should also configure burn support.
The other way to get burn support is to use the patchburn that I gave you the link to.
BUT, I think you should do things one at a time. My advice is to first get the DVR to read, play and burn in that order. There is obviously a problem with DVD player, so, unless some else can advise differently, I would try the Archive and Install of the OS 10.3.
It may also be good to run the OS 10.3.9 Combined Update:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosxcombinedupdate1039.html
trying the combined update now wouldn't hurt. If it does not remedy the situation, try the Archive and Install, then update.
    Best-
    Chris

  • Problems with DVD Player 3.0.1 in G4/466

Problems with DVD Player in G4/466
Yes, I've a g4/466 with two disks. In the first there's system 9.2.2 and the DVD player goes perfect. In the second I've system 10.2 and the 9.2, and the DVD Player (3.0.1) on the system 10 begins to jump in the dock, but stop and nothing happens, I can't open it...
There's any way to reinstal it form system disks???
Or any download to check the error?
    Thanks

    1. Try using Pacifist to extract it from your Mac OS X 10.2 installation disks, and then run the combo updater for your version of Mac OS X and any applicable DVD Player updates.
    2. Open the Console application in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder and look for lines relating to the DVD Player.

  • Duplicating DVDs made with DVD Studio Pro 4.2.2

I cannot duplicate dvds made with DVD Studio Pro. I could with my prior version but since upgrading, I am unable to. The duplicator says: Source and target size mismatch - or something like that. I have seen only one other complaint about this and they said to burn the dvd to the hard disc and copy from there. This did not work. Same error message comes up on the duplicator. I can't burn all these dvds one at a time!!!!! Any solutions out there?

    Welcome to the discussions.
It is also good to include as much information about what you are using to help others see if they can be of assistance. I know it can be frustrating trying to finish up and something goes wrong. Some days many people reply, other times, such as the problem I have with connecting to background process after the last quick update, hardly anyone replies. I hope that someone might be able to offer assistance.
You say you have 4.2.2, not 4.1.2? I have not seen that update, is it for an intel model? I am still using a Dual G4 1.42 with 4.1.2.
Which duplicator are you using? It would be good to include that so those using that brand/model can replay.
Is the DVD you recorded on and the ones used for duplications the same brand/size/type?
While I know this can take a while, in a pinch, such as not, just keep DVDSP fired up and feeding your DVD burner.
I only have to do 6 to 8 copies at a time so I use my DVD burner from DVDSP or save the DVD as a disk image using Toast Titanium 8 and opened it in toast to duplicate via the DVD burner.
Please reply with more information and hopefully others can offer more help.

  • Premiere Elements cause problems with Windows Media Center while streaming to TV.

I was having the following problem:
The audio from the streaming process of a recorded TV show on my HP computer to the remote receivers, a Sony Blu-ray player and/or a Sony Streaming Player, results in the loss of audio signal at exactly 30 seconds from the beginning on either devices. The video continues on as normal.
A user on the Windows 7 forum had the following possible cause and solution.  His response was as follows:
I "solved" my issue, at least partially. Turns out for me a codec installed by Adobe Premiere Elements for audio (Main Concept) was causing mfpmp.exe to fail (you should see it getting an appcrash in the event log two or three times as soon as you start playing the media remotely.) This program is used by microsoft for DRM. I went through and one by one remained the various attached (non-microsoft) modules until i found the one that caused the appcrash. I haven't fully figured out if Elements is now negatively effected, but that's for a different forum.
I tried the quick fix by un-installing Adobe Premiere Elements.  The uninstall solved my problem with Windows Media Center, but I want to re-install the software but I do not want to recreate the problem with Windows Media Center.
Is there another solution for this problem?

I reinstalled Adobe Premiere Elements 10 and the above mention problem reoccured.  With a little detective work I was able to determine that the file causing my problem was "mc_dec_dd_ds.ax".  I am not sure what this does to Adobe Premiere Elements 10 since I removed (renamed) the offending file.  A strange side affect, renaming the file did cause an increase volume. Strange.

  • Compatibility problem with macro media flash active control

I am getting a message on my screen "compatibility problem with macro media flash active control, it isnt compatible with my version of windows (vista).  How can this be fixed?  why am I suddenly getting it now?  I have the latest Adobe flash player installed.

the latest flash is probably the problem... it's seems that the latest flash has been causing a boat load of issues. i did a system restore to undo the flash and mozilla upgrades and it's still crashing but not as bad as it was with the upgrades.

  • MSI 6380 Problem with DVD burner

    Hello
I have a prob with my new DVD burner. Maybe someone of oyu has any idea what could be the prob.
I have an Athlon XP 2400 (T-Bred) on my board (MSI Kt7 266, MSI 6380 v2). I have done the C37 mod and removed the cap. Everything worked fine. Processor correctly recognized etc.
First my old DVD burner and my old DVD-ROM stopped working (means they didn't react to any commands anymore, I pres sejecct and nothing happens...) and after thorough testing (different combinations with correct jumper setting master/slave/CS..., new cable...) I thought they're broken and got a new DVD burner. But after installing this one - sampe problem.
This is the problem in deatils: The bios does recognize the burner in autodetection in the bios or with the setting "auto". Then it says "DVD" for the respective IDE channel and during bootpu it shows the correct name of theburner (LG GSA-4163). But the drive does not react on commands. If I press eject the lamp on the drive starts blinking but nothing happens, the tray does not open. It blinks a few times then blinks a few times very fast but nothing happens. The drive is listed in the explorer in WIN but I cannot access it. Also, the device manager shows no problem. All my HDD's work fine even on the same IDE channel.
Does anyone encounter a similiar rpoblem or have any idea how to solve this?
    Thanks.

I got another psu, more powerful then my old one. Same problem though. Can it be that this is the third optical drive in a row that fails?
Strange is that with the new psu (3,3-28A, 5V-35A, 12V-26A, 410W combined, ANTEC Truepower) my hardware monitor shows that for all the power the values are lower compared to my old psu. It shows 3,26 V 4,9V and 11,7V repsectively. With the other psu all values were higher. Is that an error or does this new psu suck?

  • How to reset the BIOS to solve a problem with DVD burner on Satellite P100

    Hi
I am trying to reset my cmos to solve a problem with my dvd burner.
I was trying to run an old game that I own that was protected by starforce and ran starforce nightmare with has made the device completly inoperable.
After much searching I have heard to reset cmos.
I have treid through debug and nothing happend. I don't really want to open up the laptop and pull the cmos battery out or leave it for a month until the cmos battery runs out.
Is there any advice on what I should do.

    Hi
What you want to do is simply not possible you said that you had some problems with PCs and you fixed it.
That's great. But a PC is simply different and cannot be compared with the notebook
    > I was trying to run an old game that I own that was protected by starforce and ran starforce nightmare with has made the device completely inoperable.
According to your statement above you CD/DVD drive issue could be related to the installed starforce nightmare. I dont know this but I presume this software/application has changed or destroyed the CD/DVD drives firmware.
Sorry but I see only one way to get it working again You have to contact the ASP in your country. Maybe a technician would be able to rescue the drive
PS: your Satellite P100 PSPA6A series seems to be a Australian series therefore you should use the Toshiba Australian page if you need some drivers or BIOS

  • Problems with DVD created in iDVD

I have a project I put together using Final Cut Express and Logic Pro. I created the DVD project using iDVD, and am having problems with the disks that I burn - they hang part-way through on various devices (after multiple burns).
I then saved the image to an .IMG file and tried to burn it on 2 different computers using different media (DVD+R and DVD-R) and at different burn speeds through Disk Manager. The disk burns ok, but fails validation with the message "Unable to burn ... (Verification of the burn failed.)"
When I mount the image on my local hard drive and play it through DVD Player, I experience no problems. This is really, really strange.

Nope. Can't do it that way. Much better to do a fresh install to each mac......or Unless you made a bootable clone of your existing HD with CCC or SuperDuper on a like mac system. Did you do this?
In other words, to clone an existing HD you'd have to format the ext. HD to mac os extended and then move the ext. HD to a similar mac from which you would boot you mac from like this:

Hope this helps but if not just comer on back.

  • Problems with DVD playback.

I created a DVD project in Encore, nothing fancy, just one video/audio track with a menu and a submenu.  When previewed, everything works great.  The burn completes with no problems, but the DVD gets choppy and stops playing at around 75 minutes.  I've tried multiple burns and tested the DVDs in multiple players.  Each has the same problem at the same point.  I've done many projects very similar to this one, and never had a problem.  Any ideas?

First thing to look at, as suggested above, is the burner or the media - but to confirm this, try compiling to a DVD folder & previewing in software first.
If folder playback is fine then it is down to the burner or the media.
When burning, follow a few simple rules and you will be okay most of the time:
1 - Compile to an ISO image in Encore & burn using IMGBurn.
2 - When loading image in IMGBurn, set burn speed to the slowest figure given - this is the optimal speed for your burner/media combination.
3 - If this still fails, try changing media brand. Recommended are Verbatim Advanced Metal Azo type, or Taiyo Yuden if you can find any, or Falcon media. Avoid rubbish like Memorex and the unbranded ones especially. If a good quality media at a slow speed still fails, try changing the burner.
    Hope some of this helps

  • Problems with DVD-R and CD-R discs

My iMac is almost 3 years old. i have burn several CDs and DVDs since I bought it. Lately I having problems reading and writing DVD-R and CD-R discs.
When you insert a new blank disc it makes a lot of sounds. With a little bit of luck it wont eject it and you would be able to drag files to it and burn it. At te beginning of the burning proces, it makes a lot of sound and many times a message will apear saying that it can calibrate de laser lens or wont recognize the media.
When you insert a burned CD-R or DVD-R it makes a lot of sound and many thing could happend, like work fine, it could be be immediately ejected, a blank disk message appears asking what to do, etc. lately it is more difficult to read my backups.
Industrially burned discs like movies DVDs, audio CDs and Software discs works fine most of the time.
Also when using Parallels I can read my CD-R without much problem. This makes me think that it could be a Software issue.
Any suggestions? Do you think my SuperDrive is dead? How much could it cost to fix this?

    HI Carlos,
Just to rule out any hardware issue, run the Apple Hardware Test

  • HD problems with DVD-R

    Hi all,
I'm working on a project, and before i get too far, i'd like to know if i'll have any problems burning HD footage to a regular DVD-R media. It appears to me that iDVD downconverts the footage. I've tested both DV and HDV on two DVD-R's on my DVD player at home, but this project will be played on a different player.
Are there any problems with burning HD footage to a DVD-R?
Also, if there are possible problems, please state them and any solutions.
    Thanks for your help!!!

most DVD players if it's on DVD-R media? I have
succesfully gotten the content to play on my DVD and

    standard TVs and DVD players?
According to Apple, iDVD down-converts to regular format (non HD format) .... so it's a bummer.
I have lots of high quality pics which I can put into iMovie HD and make them into a HD movie ....but when I export the movie to iDVD the pictures got down-converted to regular resolution. Quite disappointing.
I'd be happy if someone can show how to do this:
Hi quality pics > iMovie HD > HD format.img > burn to DVD-R.
I don't have lots of pics so my movie is only about 15 minutes....so should be able to squeeze that into a regular DVD, right?
