Burning error - 1 solution

I was getting an "error burning" message when i was trying to burn on I DVD. I tried many things without much luck. Then I deleted a FADE IN transition and a FADE OUT transition. After that the DVD burned fine.
I just thought I might pass this along for anyone having problems.
I hope it helps.
Jim

If a new user and a new system install (was this an archive & install??) won't fix things, then I'm stuck.
Check this list of things to try, though I know you've done most of them:
delete com.apple.iDVD.plist
repair permissions
clear caches with "CacheOutX" or "TigerCacheCleaner"
look for other corrupted plist files with "PreferentialTreatment"
20GB free space
b on your startup partition
clear font caches with Font Finagler
create a new user
remove(disable) unnecessary fonts
(more on that here: http://www.tcinternet.net/users/jklstudios/temp/osx.html
create new project with a new theme, and a simple movie from scratch, don't try to "fix" old ones

  • Burn error message 261

I too am getting burn error message when I try to burn my playlists to CD since I downloaded iTunes 5.0. I am burning a MP3 CD and there are only 640 MB to be burned to a 700MB CD. I have gone through all of the iTunes suggested solutions. I have contacted Dell (my OEM) and the manufacturer of my CD-R/RW drive (Samsung). I upgraded the latest firmware for my computer and CD Drive. I still get the same message...burn failed for unknown reason...error message 261. It works in Windows Media. What gives? Is there a fix? Seemingly, quite a few other customers are having the same problem. HELP!Apple is there a fix on the way?

If you have multiple drives on the same IDE or SCSI bus, these drives may interfere with each other.
Some computers need an update to the ATA or IDE bus driver, or Intel chipset. If iTunes has problems recognizing CDs or hanging or crashing while importing or burning CDs, check the support site for the manufacturer of your computer or motherboard.

    Hello Armando,
I'm not too sure if I could help you since you're running a Windows machine but if you want some reliable answers, could you re-post your question in the iTunes for Windows forum? I'm sure the people on that forum would help you better. Sorry about that.
Just FYI, you posted this thread on the iTunes for Mac forum.

  • CD burn error 4000

I've have burned over 100 CDs with my Dell desktop over the last 3 years, but the other day i got a message 'CD disc unable to burn (error 400)'. I don't know what caused it to suddenly stop working.
Basically, I selected the play list and told it to burn a CD. I right clicked on Virtual CD icon in the task bar and on my virtual CDR I told it to create a 700MB disc and insert it. iTunes sees it and then it says "checking playlist" and then it as soon as that is done, it briefly says it's starting to burn the cd when it immediately switches to canceling cd burn and then shows a dialog with the following: The attempt to burn the disc failed. An unknown error occurred (4000).
I am ambivalent about methods of fixing this problem because i am fearful that i will lose my library which has over 3000 songs in it. Is there any safe solution to this problem? I am thankful for any help!

Have you fixed this problem yet? My machine is doing the same thing.

  • Disk Utility: Burn error: 0x80020022 The device failed to respond...

I've been working on archiving a ton of video to DVD. I'm using Dual-Layer discs to minimize the amount of physical storage space needed for the finished project. I burned several discs in iDVD in July and regularly received errors. Then the drive suddenly stopped loading any type of media. Anything I inserted would spin briefly and then eject. Repaired permissions and followed steps outlined here and here. Took the Mac back to the store where I bought it (sadly, not an Apple Store - nearest one is 12 hrs away) where naturally it performed flawlessly for the store rep.
So I took it home and resumed burning, now saving as a disc image (ignoring iDVD's warning about the performance of DVDs burned this way) and using Disk Utility, since iDVD didn't seem to be reliable. Burned about 25 discs, error-free, in this fashion, then three days ago, got the error: "Unable to burn “Disc 19.img”. (The device failed to respond properly, unable to recover or retry.)"
Retried the same image, and it worked. Then burned two more in the same fashion with no errors. Today I got the same error again. Logs are identical for each failed burn, except for the time span between certain lines.
Price of DL media being what it is, I'd hate to keep ruining discs if there's something I can do to avoid it. I suppose it could be bad media, but it seems odd that I'd get two bum discs that close together after burning so many without issue. Checked the site and the forums, and there doesn't seem to be any answers. Does anyone have any ideas? (Other than "try a different brand of media." I've got a buttload of these discs and it's too late to return them now.) Even if it just helps determine where the issue lies. Warranty will be up soon, so if it's hardware related, I need to get it taken care of quick.

I have encountered the same problem. I have a Mac Book Pro from 2007, and it has gone through 3 DVD writers so far, all of which have ruined DVD+R DL disks. I have occasionally been able to burn one, but usually during verify, I get this error message:
Communication to the disk drive failed: 0x8002022
And disk utility fails with a "Invalid B-tree node size" error
Oddly, when I try to burn a disk near capacity (6.5Gb or more) it is more likely to fail than if I burn a smaller disk.
I've been using Memorex DVD+R DL disks, but I have used other brands in the past but they have failed, too. Out of about 50 disks so far, I have had success with about 5.

  • DVD Burn Errors

I have an older PB15 with a UJ-816 burner, 2x max read and write. In the last 2 years, I've burned about 500 disks with variable results.
Most of them have been TDK. These usually work fine except that on some spindles I get errors and have to burn at 1X.
    Apple disks always work fine.
I bought some Memorex 8X disks at Frys ($10/25 disks) and these have been giving me fits.

I can't remember seeing this collection of errors on other media. What is even odder is that these won't work at 1X at all, I have to try at 2X to get any good results at all. Perhaps 1/3 of the burns fail even at 2X. The last 4 burns in a row have failed.
I've gone through a bunch of the really cheap Fry's "Great Quality" media with no errors at all.
Is Memorex known to be a bad brand?
    - gws

I have heard that 2x speed is somewhat "problematic" than other burn rates... and that you have to buy a media that specificaly mentions burning at 2x (I think in reality it's like 2.4x? and that causes some weirdness), or else sometimes it will not work.
I read this somewhere. can't rememebr where. Try buying media where the label specifically mentions 2x and see if that helps (usually you'll have to find a media that is rated slower, which is getting harder to find..)
I use memorex a lot, and it's pretty reliable, at least on my drive, but that doesn't mean much since DVD-RWs are so finicky. (as good as other media I've used. TDK, Fuji, maxell, memorex). the only coasters I've made form memorex are user-induced. I've heard Apple uses Maxell.. you might want to look at their stuff. don't use GQ. I made more coasters using that brand than all others combined.

  • DVD Burning Error: Unknown device error. (0x73, 0x03.)

I have been trying to burn a home movie using iDVD. I transferred the media successfully to my computer, followed all the steps, and was finally ready to burn the DVD. *The recording device reported the media error: Unknown device error. (0x73, 0x03.)*
I don't really know what this means. Was the media corrupt? Or is there a problem with my DVD player? I have supplied my DVD and computer information below. I would appreciate all the help I can get. Thank you in advance!

Using the same media I've used for years (Verbatim 4x InkJet printable) and all of a sudden can't burn from the internal drive. I do have an external burner (7 disc standalone replicator with USB/FireWire 400) and hooked that up and burned to a disc from the same spindle with no problem, and then made a 3x replicate with the same media. So it's looking like my MacBook Pro's drive is failing?

  • CD Burn Errors - No Burn has succeeded!

I have only started using my three month old iBook for burning CD's this week and discovered that it continually gives a BURN ERROR and spoils the CD-R so that it cannot be burned (on a PC). This happens for all attempts at burning either files from Finder or iTunes with both MP3 and Audio burns - all on well known brand discs. How can this be checked and fixed? I don't see any other problem like this in a quick look on this forum.
NB - Error code from Console is given as 0x80020022 “The device failed to respond properly, unable to recover or retry” also mentions "Burn Sense: 6/29/00 Unit Attention, Power on, reset or reset bus device occurred".
Apple Hardware Test from CD supplied gives all OK but this does not test the CD drive which is a Matshita CD-RW CW-8124 Revision D80D.
    Please help!

Hi - I have followed all the advice above and after cleaning etc tried burning a 450MB set of data files. Same result - CD locks up in spin and after a couple of minutes says an error has occurred. This time it was extremely difficult to get out of lock-up as Finder was totally unresponsive and I had to crash restart with the CD stil spinning. On restart the CD would not eject and was rocking back anbd forwards continually and seeming to lock out any keyboard command. Again after another crash restart and holding the eject button down it did come out just before shutting down. (There's a lot to be said for a PC style eject button!). It gave the same log report under Console as previously reported.
I have used both Sony and Verbatim CD-R but the only thing to note is that they are 700MB discs. Could this be the problem? Do Matshita have a CD driver update website?
I am working overseas so how can I get Apple to sort this out? I am tempted to give up and stick with my Sony PC running XP Pro!
    Thanks Ray

    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=300448-Heres a start.
This happens on certain PC's. I dont know if you care to know the ins and outs of why this sometimes happens, but here is why and how to fix it. an application (such as Roxio, Nero, iTunes, etc.) is installing a driver file (as a .SYS) or replacing a working driver file that is referenced within your registry. For some folks, the replaced driver is still referenced by either an UpperFilterCheck or a LowerFilterCheck, and the device manager is actually seeking out that file that, well... no longer exists. Or, when you try and uninstall the application (iTunes is the frequent transgressor) everything is removed, including the related driver files, but the registry isn't altered... so the device manager continues to try and locate that driver file... which no longer exists.
the thing to do to reclaim your optical drives is located in your registry here:
    HKEYLOCALMACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE1 0318}
You'll want to have that open, and a mini-window of the following:
START -> CONTROL PANEL -> SYSTEM -> Hardware (tab) -> DEVICE MANAGER -> Offending Drive (with yellow tag by it) Right-Mouse-Click and PROPERTIES -> Driver (tab) -> DRIVER DETAILS
Notice that list. It references all the drivers that that particular drive is utilizing. There should be a single .DLL (dynamic link library) file and multiple .SYS files. It's the .SYS files we're focusing on, and they should be located in your C:\WINDOWS\System32\drivers\ folder stem. If you want to open a new window explorer, and go verify that each of those driver files still exists in that folder stem, you may.
At this point, compare the Driver File Detail list with the Registry Tree Location you're sitting in, and look at the UpperFilterCheck and LowerFilterCheck key values. Your offending key value will NOT be on your Driver File Detail list!!! It might be as small as "PFC" or something else, but that value is referencing to a driver file that no longer exists. Delete that offending key value. Close the registry.
Close the Driver File Details and Drive Properties windows. At this point, to finish this up, you need to Soft Uninstall (Right-mouse-click on the drive, and hit "Uninstall" ) the drive(s), let the Device Manager refresh... then hit ACTION -> Scan For Hardware Changes ...
This should start a new Found New Hardware cycle, and.... poof!... your drives should be back to normal.
Let me know how it goes.
    Good Luck,
    Rachyl

  • Acrobat 9.5.1 update on Windows XP Error 1321 solutions don't work

Acrobat 9.5.1 update on Windows XP Error 1321 solutions don't work. I can't uninstall program. Error upon error.

    Hi John,
I'm trying to install the SunMC 3.5.1 Console on
Windows XP with not much success. The install
displays the initial splash screen, but then fails
    with the error :
    The install wizard cannot proceed.
Aborting installation now...First, are you installing from a complete SunMC CD or CD image? If you just copied some files out of a CD/image you may have missed some jar files.
SunMC Consoles don't like to share systems with older versions of themselves. Try moving/renaming the directory your 3.5 Console is installed in (or uninstall it if you don't need it),... then try putting 3.5.1 in again.
All my demos/work/courses are on 3.5.1 on an XP laptop, so I know it works.
I think it's probably just not happy about 3.5 already being installed... so just move it out of the way for awhile to get 3.5.1 in (then put 3.5 back so you can have them both).
    Regards,
    Mike
The Java version is 1.4.2_03 .
The Release Notes etc don't give any clues.
Strangely, SunMC 3.5 works fine on this desktop..
Any ideas as to where I can go from here? This is
effectively stopping me from going from SMC 3.5 to
3.5.1, unless I can get the Console working..
Has anyone else had problems with SMC 3.5.1 on XP?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Burn error 4315 and 4450

I have burned one cd in audio successfully. I have recently purchased new music and have followed all the steps to create another one and it wont burn and I get these two burn errors 4315 and 4450.
Can anyone help me understand what this means?
    Thank you.
    Nessy

I don't know about 4221, but this is what I did for 4251 (though, I still don't know what the error actually means):
Go to "Edit" > "Preferences" > click the "Advanced" tab > and then the "Burning" tab.
Then lower the preferred speed (say, from 24x to 16x) and change the gap between songs from two seconds to none.
Since doing this I've only had the error come up a couple of times in which case I just lowered the speed once again.
    Hope this helps

  • Burn error 4420

I can't burn any CDs off of iTunes anymore. I never had a problem til about a month ago. It burns up to 6 songs and then it ejects the CD and says it was unable to burn Error 4420. I ran CD diagnostics and it says all the songs are on the CD, however when I put the CD into a stereo...only a few play. I thought this was just with my purchased songs because that's all it was at first. Now, it won't burn any of the songs I have in iTunes.

  • Burn error with iPhoto 4

I was gonna burn about 2.4G of pics onto a DVD. When I tried i got a burn error, and had to throw away a DVD. I opened toast and when it started it stated that I had duplicates. I clicked so it wouldn't burn the duplicates and it burned normally. How do I find the duplicates and get rid of them?

Export the photos to a desktop folder, right click on the folder and burn to disk - see if that is any different

I spent 2 days on it and it pops out the DVD and says multiplexing & burning error. This happened a couple of times. The status still shows 7 plus minutes, but the disc is out. I am not sure what is going on. Any ideas? I reviewed it all and have 21 scenes, and everything seems like it should work. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!!

I have found that the DVD+R discs don't work for me, I found that only DVD-R worked. Try that, and if that doesn't work post here again and I'll see what else I can dig up for you

  • DVD burning error - disk locked

Hi my 9 month old iMac is having problems burning DVDs It was half way through a 4 disc back up and gave up with an error. Now the drive wont burn even brand new Verbatim discs. In console it says the new DVD-RW media are locked. I've booted up from a back-up clean tiger install on a portable Hard drive but still get the same results so it doesn't seem to be the software. I've cleaned the Disc Drive several times so it's not dirt. If disc utility says the media are locked can this be a drive fault.

Go to your Mac OS Help Menu. In the search field type burning error. Click on the topic "I see an error message when I try to burn a CD or DVD".
Hopefully, that will solve your problem.
