Bus communications for 660x counter timer cards
I believe I have a new application for 660x counter timer cards. I propose to build some additional circuitry on a blank PCI card to be installed in the same PC as the 660x card. If my sequence of pulses is generated on my home-built card, can this pulse sequence be fed via the PCI bus to the 660x card or must the 68 way connector be used. Can the PCI 6602 use the PCI bus for data receipt and transmission? Can the PXI 6602 use the PXI bus in a similar manner? Please note, my application will still be viable if the PCI/PXI bus cannot be used in this manner but it would give me more options and probably a 'cleaner' solution.

This sounds like a really interesting project. I�m not exactly sure what the details of your application are, but I can tell you that the counter input and output signals are only available on the 68-pin connector of the 660x card.

System is Windows ME Labview 6.1 6601 Counter/timer card. 3 pairs of Omron Photoelectric sensors E3X-F21 are mounted on a flat surface and as the object passes the first pair of sensors it starts timer1 and timer2.
As the object passes the second pair of sensors it stops timer1 and as the object passes the third pair of sensors it stops timer2
We have a known distance between the sensors so we are able to calculate the objects speed and position.
We need a wiring diagram to connect the sensors to the 6601 card.I think I can describe a method that'll probably be simpler than the previous answer because it won't require any external logic circuitry.
1. Configure two counters for "Two-Edge Separation" measurement, let's say counters 0 and 1.
2. Wire Sensor 1's signal to both AUX-0 and AUX-1.
3. Wire Sensor 2's signal to GATE-0.
4. Wire Sensor 3's signal to GATE-1.
5. Wire each sensors' 'ground' to the appropriate ground pins on your terminal block.
6. Software configure both counters to use "max internal timebase" for a source -- 20 MHz for the 6601.
You can specify the polarity of the transition you care about for both the AUX and the GATE signal, but I'll explain in terms of rising edges for both.
Counter 0 will count time from Sensor 1's rising e
dge until Sensor 2's rising edge. Counter 1 will count time from Sensor 1's rising edge until Sensor 3's rising edge. The count values will be in units of "# of 20 MHz cycles elapsed."
You can probably get a decent starting point on the software using one of the shipped examples. -

following question:
i am using the x4 encoder application on an ni 6602 card.
and also i am using a gated signal generation on it.
both things are working without any problem.
My intention is to read the counter value of the encoder on every rising
edge of the signal and write the value into an array in the pcmemory.
Is this possible, how?
Is it possible to create an interupt on rising edge, and signal the
programm, >read the encoder reader value

thanks for your answer, well my problem is slightly different, so let me
explain:
I got from NI the following the files for the NI 6602 Counter/Timer Card to
work with Linux:

However, every programm except the one which uses the

I was recommended to buy NI 6002 with PXI series, 5 Nos cards($875x 5 nos), and additionally a PXI rack costing about $ 2195 + some min--- card to interface with the computer costing another $ 875. The accuracy and performance is the same for both the PXI and PCI 6602s. However, using PXI solution will allow users an easier time with synchronization since that is the provided in the backplane of the PXI chassis. Additionally, if you ever need a higher accuracy solution you can add the 6608 device which has 75 parts per billion ppb vs 50 ppm of the 6602 devices. With 6608 plugged in the second slot of the PXI chassis (the one next to the controller), the high accuracy timebase is automatically shared acrossed the backplane of the PXI chassis which mean
s that other 6602 devices in the chassis will share the same accuracy of the 6608. If the difference in the accuracy is not a concern and you are currently not ready to invest in the PXI platform, then you can go with the PCI 6602 devices.

Gated event counting for a finite time
I am using a PCI 6110 card for gated photon counting. The digital signal is coming from a single photon counting module, which generates a single TTL pulse upon receiving a photon. It also generates ~100 dark count /sec. To get rid of the dark counts, I use gate pulses with very small duty cycle. In this way, the dark counts are suppressed. I want to operate for a fixed time interal with a resolution of ~1ms. My gate pulses are at 800kHz. Their duration is on the order of 10ns. Is there a way that I can perform gated counting for only 10000 gate pulses? Thanks.

Your question stirred up an interesting discussion at the office. You can't do gated, buffered counting as the gate input is used to trigger the latch to the buffer. We came up with a couple of ideas here, but neither are perfect. It is important to also consider that you are running right at the specifed minimum pulse durations for the gate and source pulse durations for the 6110, which is 10 ns.

With that in mind, you could use an external high speed AND gate to generate a signal for a simple event counter to read using the laser gate and the photon detector output as input to the AND gate.
Otherwise, you could try doing gated event counting on the signal and simple event counting on the gate as long as the gate frequency is consistent. Then you could use the frequency of the gate and number of counts of the gate to get the total acquisition time. This will require that you start and stop both counter tasks at as close to the same time as possible. The start could be triggered with an Arm Trigger. Getting the values from the counters would always require 2 software calls, but the longer the acquisition, the less important this error would become.

I have been buying apps for a long time without a problem using my credit card on file. All of a sudden itunes is not recognizing my card which is in good standing. All the info is correct but itunes/apple says it doesn't match the bank info. Any ideas?

I need to install just the Windows XP hardware device drivers for my PCI-DNET card, P/N 184726E-11. Ordered under P/N 777358-01, the card is boxed with an installation CD-ROM. CD-ROM is NI-DNET for windows Ver 1.6.7. When the install app runs, it is trying to install all sorts of stuff I do not need - Labview Runtime, Microsoft Silverlight, Development Support, Automatic Updaters, etc. This card is being installed in a "production" machine. We have our own software, already developed, that talks to the card via the O/S. The hardware/device drivers are most certainly on the CD-ROM, I just need them identified and instructions for installing them.

EdThank yor for the reply. However, it is not what I am looking for. The suggested download is 406MB. That's everything but MS Silverlight and the kitchen sink - overkill for our needs. We only need to install the Windows system driver for the card. We do not need Labview RT and the other development/support stuff for this installation. We have our own communications software that talks directly to the hardware, via the windows system driver. I have the 1.6.7 software CD-ROM, and need to know where the Windows sytem hardware driver/driver installer is located and what is the preferred method for installing only the hardware driver.

Setting parameters for synching pci-6534 cards via RTSI bus
I have been performing high-speed,
buffered, looping output with one pci-6534 card. I am now adding
a second 6534 card that I need to sync to the first card via the RTSI
bus. I have successfully used the RTSI bus to see the master REQ1
and ACK1 signals on those channels of the slave (seen at a connector
block), using the "RTSI control" vi. I simply set the master and
slave as transmitter and receiver, respectively, over the RTSI bus.
The question is: Once I have used the RTSI control vi to share the
necessary signals, do I need to do anything in my "dio config," "dio
write," or "dio start" vi's in the looping output code for the 2nd 6534
card to let it know that its REQ, ACK, STPTRG, and CLK signals are
coming from the bus? For example, in the buffered pattern looping
output vi, the "dio start" vi has choices of "internal" or "RTSI
connection" for its clock. My master board's code simply uses the
internal. Does my slave need to be set to RTSI connection, or,
once I have shared the clock signal over the RTSI bus, is that
effectively the internal clock for my slave too?

When you are performing synchronization across the RTSI bus you need to specify that the slave device should get its clock signals from there. You would use the digital clock config VI to do this. If you look in the example finder, you will find synchronization example VIs that do the same kind of thing for analog input. To find the examples, open the example finder by going to Help >> Find Examples >> Hardware Input and Output >> Traditional DAQ >> Multiple Device.
If you are just getting started developing your application, you may want to consider using DAQmx. There are many more examples available to look at for this type of synchronization. To find these examples in the example finder go to Hardware Input and Output >> DAQmx >> Synchronization >> Multi-Device. To use your PCI-6534 with NI-DAQmx, you must have version 7.4 or later. The newest version is DAQmx 7.5. You may also want to look at this tutorial about synchronization with DAQmx.
