  • Integrating APEX and E-Business best practices?

My company has been using the E-Business Suite for the past decade, and I've finally convinced them to set up APEX (now that 4.0 is out). However, I haven't been able to find much that's current on integrating the two, other than [this paper|http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/pdf/apex_ebs_wp_cabot_consulting.pdf] by Cabot Consulting. Is this the accepted best practice for integrating the two systems?
Our DBA is hesitant about letting us use the apps schema as the parsing schema (per the document's recommendation), as that gives APEX developers almost unlimited access ("the keys to the kingdom", in his words). Is there a better way, or something I can tell him to allay his concerns?
    Thanks,
    -David

    Hi David,
You don't have to use APPS as the parsing schema, you can use another schema and grant execute on an EBS authenticate function that you have created in the APPS schema. This will work fine. You will also have to grant access to any other APPS objects that you need to use.
Apart from the bit of extra work of granting the required privileges the downside of not using the APPS schema as the parsing schema is that not all the EBS APIs will work if run from another schema, most will but some won't because they use dynamic SQL which expects the parsing schema to be APPS.
This is the reason why most EBS developers do all their work in the APPS schema e.g. when developing conc request programs. Which ever approach you take you need to ensure that APEX is clamped down in production with no developer access.
So it all depends on what you are hoping to achieve and how you design your APEX applications. If you not calling EBS APIs you will be fine with a separate schema.
Similarily with the performance, you may be fine on the same server, for example, if you have a separate RAC node for Apex or are using separate tables/indexes. On the other had if you are try to use the APPS security views for reporting in APEX you will quickly run into performance issues.

  • Best Practice for Managing Cookies in an Enterprise Environment

We are upgrading to IE11 for our enterprise. One member of the team wants to set a group policy that will delete all cookies every time the user exits IE11.  We have some websites that users access that use cookies to track progress in training,
but are deleted when the user closes the browser.  What is the business best practice regarding deleting all history, temp internet files and, especially cookies when closing a browser.
If you can point me to a white paper on this topic, that would be helpful.
    Thanks

    Hi,
Regarding cookie settings, we could manage IE privacy settings using Administrative templates for IE 11:

  • Best Practice in using Business Packages

    Hi All,
Are there any Best Practices in the use of Business Package content?   Do you assign the Roles delivered by the Business Package and do you make changes to the original iViews?
    or
Do you copy the content delivered in the Business Package to a new folder and work with there?
These questions are purely at the configuration level and not at the Java coding level.   For instance if I want to turn of the iView Tray, or change a parameter such as height, or even remove an iView from a page or Role.
I would like to know the various approaches the SDN community uses and the different challenges and benefits that result in each approach.
Look forward to hearing from you all
    Paul

    Hi Paul,
I also build my own roles. The only time I might use the standard roles is for demo purposes early in a project.  You will find that in some cases the business packages like MSS don't always even include standard roles, so you have no choice but to build.
I never change any of the standard iViews/Pages/Worksets - ever.
The most contentious issue seems to be whether to do a full or delta link copy of the standard objects.  I tend to initially do a full copy of the objects into a custom folder set in the PCD and modify those. Then I only use delta links from Page to iViews where I need the option of setting different properties for the same iView if it appears in multiple pages.  Delta links can be a bit flakey at times, so I tend to only use them where I have to.  I suspect that I may get to a point where I don't use them at all.
    Just my 2 cents worth....

  • Best practice "changing several related objects via BDT" (Business Data Toolset) / Mehrere verbundene Objekte per BDT ändern

    Hallo,
    I want to start a
discussion, to find a best practice method to change several related master
data objects via BDT. At the moment we are faced with miscellaneous requirements,
where we have a master data object which uses BDT framework for maintenance (in
our case an insured objects). While changing or creating the insured objects a
several related objects e.g. Business Partner should also be changed or
created. So am searching for a best practices approach how to implement such a
    solution.
One Idea was to so call a
report via SUBMIT AND RETURN in Event DSAVC or DSAVE. Unfortunately this implementation
method has only poor options to handle errors. Second it is also hard to keep LUW
    together.
Another idea is to call an additional
BDT instance in the DCHCK-event via FM BDT_INSTANCE_SELECT and the parameters
    iv_xpush_classic = ‘X’ and iv_xpop_classic = ‘X’. At this time we didn’t get
this solution working correctly, because there is always something missing
(e.g. global memory is not transferred correctly between the two BDT instances).
    So hopefully you can report
about your implementations to find a best practice approach for facing such
    requirements.
    Hallo
Report per SUBMIT AND RETURN aufzurufen.

  • Best Practice Regarding Maintaining Business Views/List of Values

    Hello all,
I'm still in the learning process of using BOXI to run our Crystal Reports.  I was never familiar with the BO environment before but I have recently learned that every dynamic parameter we create for a report, the Business View/Data Connectors/LOV are created on the Enterprise Repository the moment the Crystal Report is uploaded.
All of our reports are authored from a SQL Command statement and often times, various reports will use the same field name from the database for different reports.  For example, we have several reports that use the field name "LOCATION" that exists on a good number of tables on the database.
When looking at the Repository, I've noticed there are several variations of LOCATION, all which I'm assuming belongs to one specific report.  Having said that, I see that it can start to become a nightmare in trying to figure out which variation of LOCATION belongs to what report.  Sooner or later, the Repository will need to be maintained a bit cleaner, and with the rate we author reports, I forsee a huge amount of headache down the road.
With that being said, what's the best practice in a nutshell when trying to maintain these repository items?  Is it done indirectly on the Crystal Report authoring side where you name your parameter field identifiable to a specific report?  Or is it done directly on the Repository side?
    Thank you.

Eric, you'll get a faster qualified response if you post to the  Business Objects Enterprise Administration forum as that forum is monitored by qualified support for BOE

  • Best Practice to implement Business Packages

    Hello All,
    Need some clarification -
What is the best practice to implement ESS/MSS Business Package onto Portal -
    (1) Should I just import and configure the content     OR
    (2) Should I import, create a copy and then configure it? If yes, are there any points to be kept in mind?
All blogs/articles that have been published show to configure the standard content.
The requirement is to maintain a different prefix/namespace for each Portal content that comes along the business package?
    Thanks,

Could you share your experience on how to activate business content in BI 7. In 3.x,  I used to activate business content based on infosource then crate ods and infocube based on in infosource. Now in BI 7 infosource is no longer necessary. Please share your thoughts of best practice on activate business content in BI 7.

    Hi,
To actiavte the objects in the BI content u can select which ever object u want and then select the collection mode as all the objects before and after....
this will ideally activate all the objects that are required for the functionin of the object that you have selected .......
    In simpler way....
RSA1-> Business Contents-> Select your objects-> On the right hand side, select "automatic collection" under "collection mode" and Select "before and after data flow" -> Right Click the selected objects on the left hand side and right click -> Insert Objects for collection-> Once the selected objects comes to the right hand side, select "install" and click "install in background".

  • Best practice for making changes to Oracle apps business views and BAs/fold

    HI
The oracle BI solution comes with pre-defined Business Views- database views and Business Areas and folders. If we want to customize those database views or BAs and folders what will be the best practice in order to avoid losing it during any upgrades.
For ex Oracle out-of box Order Management BA that we are using heavily needs some additional fields to be added to Order Header and Order Lines folders and we also want to add some custom folders to this BA.
If we do the changes to the database views behind this BA would they be lost during the upgrade or do we have to copy(duplicate) those views, updated them and create a custom BA and folders against those views.
    Thanks

    Hi,
If you are adding new folders then just add them to the Oracle Business Area. The business area is just a collection of folders. If the business area was changed in an upgrade the new folder would not be deleted.
If you want to add fields to the existing folders/views then you have 2 options. Add the field to the defining base view (these are the views beginning OEBV and OEFV) and then regenerate the business views. This may be overwritten if the view is upgrade but this is unlikely.
Alternatively, copy the view to create a new version and then map the old folder to the new view and refresh. You may need to re-map the folder if the folder is upgraded, but at least you have a single folder used by both Oracle and custom reports.

  • Best Practice Question - Business Logic in Value Objects?

Just wondering what people's thoughts on best practices for setting properties of Value Objects.
For instance, I have several getter/setters in one of my Value Objects with logic in the setter that uses the value to set values of other properties.
For example, I have a Value Object that has the following properties:
category (of type Category, which is another Value Object with properties "name" and "id")
    categoryId (of type int)
    categoryUpdated (of type Boolean)
I have a collection of Category Objects in the Model. When I set the categoryId of this class, I set the "categoryUpdated" to true, and dispatch an CairngormEvent to that find the "category" with the specified "categoryId" and set the "category" property to this item.
So what is the best practice? To simply make the "categoryId" a public variable, and create a new Event/Command to perform all this logic? Or is it ok to do it all in the Value Object setter?
    Thanks.

    Hi Eric,
I can't speak for best practices, but the only logic I've ever added to a VO were getters: an example was a set of getters on an airline flight VO to get overall flight departure/arrival times/cities from an array of flight segments in a property of the VO.
I feel uneasy (in the nicest possible way) about your VO for two reasons: firstly it has a strong dependency on bits of the Cairngorm framework to look up the category (and VOs normally don't need to depend on anything), and secondly the intent of Commands in Cairngorm is more to represent user gestures than to wire up VO properties (I often see people shoehorning stuff into Commands that might be better of as plain old business utility classes). I would rather see an UpdateCategoryCommand (that's what the user is trying to do?) that updates categoryId and hits a delegate to populate the category property.
That said you might have a very good reason for doing this. Could you tell us where the code is that's setting categoryId, and if anything is using categoryUpdated?
    Cheers,
    Robin

  • Best practice DISK Layout for E-business suite 11i or R12 in SAN enviornmen

    Hi,
Does any one have any document on best practices on DISK Layout for E-business suite 11i or R12 in SAN enviornment?
    My thoughts are :
    Mount point 1 =Oracle Binary
    Mount point 2 =Data files
    Mount point 2 =Index files
    Mount point 2 =Archived logs
    Please suggest

On our HPUX node, we have each environment (PROD, TEST, DEV) on it's own separate mountpoint. Each mountpoint is a separate LUN (Vdisk) on our SAN (an HP EVA4400). No performance issues at all. Our Windows nodes runs Apache and forms, and that is on the internal disks on the windows machine itself. Hope this helps.

  • Business component best practices

I am rewriting an existing PHP application in ADF. Database is large and used in production. Current DB tables do not use many foreign keys. Should I create the custom associations manually in Business Components or create them in the database have BC creation process pick up the association automatically. What's the best practice around this?
    -saidul

Foreign key are a vital part of the busines logic as they show how entities are wired together. I prefer to have them in the DB as all applications (adf or not) are forced to obey them. This helps to keep the data consistent.
Now if you are aleady in production, you should first check if you can apply the foreign key constrains without breaking your other running apps.
If you implement the associations in ADFbc you might hit some data which you can't save as the checks implied by ADFbc can't be met by the data.

  • Best Practice E-Business 12.1.3/11gR2 Hardware Configuration

    Hi
We are in the design phase for a new install of E-Business 12.1.3 / 11gR2
From a hardware services point, what is deemed to be the "best practice"?
    Option 1
    1 x Web/Forms Node
    1 x Concurrent Manager Node
    1 x Database ode
    Option 2
    1 x web/forms/concurrent manager node
    1 x database node
    Option 3
    1 x web/forms/concurrent manager/database node
In the past I have always gone with Option 2 so that the database traffic is minimised between conc managers / database. That to me seemed most logical. But wanted to ask the oracle community about their thoughts
We are using redhat linux / Cisco Blades (USC/VMWARE) and all connecting to a NetApp FAS3270.
PLease advise if you pick this up.
    Thanks

Exactly what I was thinking but its nice to get someone elses clarity too.
The PCP option is certainly something I need to take into consideration - but with the new abilities of 12.1.3 cloning processes - it would be easy enough to split the admin Conc Nodes away at a later date should the requirement exist.
    i.e.
    Initially have 1 x forms/web server plus 1 x database / concurrent manager node
If we need to go to PCP and / or forms load balancing
we could easily go to 2 x forms / web server and add the Conc Node into it brining in PCP too.
I have to admist, the way Oracle have sorted the cloning process is 12 is very good indeed.
Do you agree?I totally agree :)
You just need to run preclone on the source apps tier node, then copy the files to the second node (add new node), and run adcfgclone.pl/adaddnode.pl scripts.

  • SAP Business One 2007 - SQL Security best practice

I have a client with a large user base running SAP Business One 2007.
We are concerned over the use of the sql sa user and the ability to change the password of this ID from the logon of SAP Business One.
We therefore want to move to use Windows Authentication (ie Trusted Connection) from the SAP BO logon.  It appears however that this can only work by granting the window IDs (of the SAP users) sysadmin access in SQL.
Does anyone have a better method of securing SAP Business One or is there a recommended best practice.  Any help would be appreciated.
