Business case to move from Oracle BPM 10.3g to BPM11g

We are a very large organisation doing our business process implementation using Oracle BPM 10.3g. Currently we are working on only 3 processes, but over next couple of years, we would have at least 10 LIVE processes. As an organisation, we are wondering if we should at all move to OBPM 11g or would it be better to move as early as possible.
As I understand, the migration from 10.3g to 11g would not be migration, but re-work of all the processes. Is this correct?
Or does Oracle have plans to come out with BPM 12g that would offer migration features from 10.3g?
Are there any good reasons why a large organisation like ours would benefit by moving to BPM 11g? If yes, what are these reasons?
Are these benefits good enough to scrap 1-2 years effort and BPM knowledge earned while developing solution on BPM 10.3g as BPM 11g looks architecturally quite different from 11g?
Or should our approach be to implement all our processes on 10.3g and then move onto 11g 2-3 years from now if the benefits are not significant?

Hi.
I'd like to add some comments here that might be useful.
As Mark already said, migration tools will be provided in 12 for transforming 10.3 projects. It is important to note that these tools will facilitate migration but will no accomplish a 100% automated transformation. One quick reason would be the support of BPMN (design and runtime) instead of XPDL. Some XPDL stuff may be represented in different ways in BPMN and you will have to choose which option is better for you.
So what I think is really important for any 10.3 customer is to start knowing and using the new platform. Some of the reasons would be:
- Each BPM project is different. Knowing about 11/12 will help you understand the specific situation of your project.
- Based on the above, you will be in good shape to understand migration procedures and impact as soon as documentation is ready.
- You may find that new processes you have to develop can take advantage of 11g features, so you will have the option of implementing them using the new version.
- Runtime platform may also be different. That will depend on you current environment (standalone for instance) which may be different from 11g. So it's not only about design patterns, but also runtime.
Again, BPM implementation is different, so for some customers it'd be better to wait until 12 to migrate their processes but others can start developing on 11g right now. In order to decide which is the best approach you need to know about the new platform. And Mark also mentioned one huge advantage: you can start with 11gPS4 right now knowing that the experience will help you a lot also for 12.
So my strong suggestion would be to take time to read docs, download the tool and implement some samples. You may even want to prototype some of your existing processes (or the new ones) in the tools and see how it goes.
Another tip I can suggest is to look for 10.3 guidelines to minimize migration. This doc have some suggestions for having an easier migration path in the future but most importantly provides information about how many 10.3 features are going to be 'mapped' into 12g, and I think it's going to be valuable information for you. The current version is quite outdated. Product Management intends to update it for next OOW.
Hope it helps.
Regards,
Gustavo

  • Actionable emails from oracle BPM.

    Hello All ,
I am trying to use actionable email notifications from oracle BPM .
Steps i have taken so far
    1) Marked notification on Human Task as "Actionable items "
    2) Mentioned valid email address in - Select SOA Administration > Workflow Task Service Properties - "Actionable email account"
Result achieved after doing these configurations
When clicked on Actions received in email like say Approve (using outlook) , one email reply gets created with id in "to" same as what mentioned in Workflow Task Service Properties .
Content "reply" of email as below -
    ==========================
Add comments by editing the text between the brackets in 'Comments' section.
    Comments: [your comments]
You can also add attachments to the task by attaching them to this email.
-----Do not edit below this line-----
    Approve : [[NID]] : 7kv0yUvSKkmbKbPn0ohu0I9CwHUfBhuTIAmKc3wwEcWCaJhUj9Qolyhu/ul3OttwnJSavULLMytHnsD7dakQAbzLyZS6C4PAgBO%2BsmgVzFwNGn1LevYmcLnRgKVJlevY : [[NID]]
    ==========================
My question here is how Actionable emails are supposed to work - should they change the status of task directly when clicked on approve/reject (no log in on BPM)
or should they notify somebody with status and then somebody should log in and do the change ?
Anybody used actionable email please help us out here ..
    Thanks
    Rupesh

    Hi Rupesh
    1. First in Task Properties you check the box Actionable Email which you already did.
    2. You also need to configure some valid email addresses and set email details like email server name etc. From EM Console, soa-infra -> Right Click -> SOA Adminstration -> Workflow Notification Properties. In this first in drop down box, select Email. Then in 3 fields below give valid email addresses something like:
    From Address: [email protected]
    Actionable Address: [email protected]
    Reply To Address: [email protected]
These email accounts should be valid and exist in your email exchage server.
Now in the same screen on the top click on the link named "Go to messaging driver page" and on that screen on right side click the buton under Configure Driver and give email details like outgoingmailserver, incomingmailserver, the incoming mailid, incoming userid etc.
Only after doing this, you can Approve/Reject (Take actions) directly from Email.
Refer the online docs for more details.

  • Data Movement from Oracle 8i to 10g

    hi
i want to move data from old system (oracle 8i) to new system (oracle 10g). database architecture for both systems is different. there are 12 tables in old system and 37 tables in new system. i want to use exp and imp utilities. new system in oracle 10g also contains so many records. i want to move data rightly and also want to secure data in oracle 10g. can i use exp and imp for it. if there are some other ways then plz write me. plz also write the precautions and considertaions that i have for using exp and imp.
    cheers

Since these are two different architectures, and I understand two different OS' then the only available choice is to use export/import. The number of tables doesn't seem to be problematic.
From your other thread, Re: data movement from 8i to 10g , you stated some concert about sys' objects, don't deal with them, just import your production schema objects.

  • Need business case to move to 4.1

    Hi all,
We are currently using APEX 3.2, and would like to upgrade. I haven't had much time to look into the features of APEX 4, and now I have been told that I need to put together a business case for upgrading by next week. While some of the new features look great, I have to put this to business users rather than technical people. Can anyone point me to improvements that look good from a business standpoint and any info on the upgrade process?
    Thanks for any advice!

  • Problems to invoke a secure Web service from Oracle BPM Studio 10.3

    Hi all
I'm trying to consume a web service through HTTPS protoloco Oracle BPM Studio v10.3, but I get the following error: sun.security.validator.ValidatorException: PKIX path building failed: sun.security.provider.certpath.SunCertPathBuilderException: unable to find valid certification path to requested target.
    Some help!!
    Thanks

Without going into any technical discussion about the code, my first question is what JDK version was used to create this which was imported into the form? Understand that Forms 10 runs on JDK 1.4.2, so if you used any newer JDK version, likely there will be problems.

  • Sending Email from Oracle BPM 11.1.1.4

    Hi,
From my process i want to send an email to non- workspace user. How to do that.
Am aware of the 11.1.1.6 Notifications, but my client requires 11.1.1.4 version
    Its urgent.
    Thanks,

We used java Mail API to send emails in 11.1.1.5 + Feature Pack too.
Though as you said PS5 has this new feature - http://technology.amis.nl/2012/05/18/proces-email-with-the-new-ums-adapter-of-soa-suite-ps5/

  • Oracle BPM 10gR3 to Oracle SOA 11g Suite

I am not sure some body else already asked.
I have Oracle BPM product in production which is fine and happy the way it works. Its developed from Version: 10.3.1.0.0 Build: #100364. We use custom JSP, JavaComponent, PAPI etc in this.
We are thinking of migrating to Oracle SOA 11g Suite.
Is there any tool for this? If not, anything expected?
Do we need to re-write our BPM 10g app to 11g? What all parts might need to re-write?

To answer to you question in a straight way I am afraid there is no direct migration path from OBPM 10g to Oracle SOA Suite 11g. You would need to we-write a lot of things like
    1. As of now the BPM API's arent public. so u wont have something like PAPI as in OBPM
    2. There is no support for PBL/Java in Oracle BPM 11g. However if you want to use custom Java Component u can leverage BPEL or Spring along with BPM. Every component is afterall packed inside a single composite.
    3. It is advisable to have all dashboards and UI's developed with ADF if you are with Oracle SOA Suite 11g but even if you have JSPs that shouldnt be a problem.
This topic was discussed some days back in this forum. You can find the thread here

  • Multiple Row selection in JSP using checkbox - Oracle BPM 10gR3

    Dear BPM Experts,
Has anyone invoked JSP from Oracle BPM 10gR3 screen flow that has the following UI requirement.
    1. When UI is loaded user is presented with multiple rows of pre-populated data(each column of the row represents attributes of a BPM object) with checkbox against each of the rows for user to select one, many and all rows.
    2. User has option to select one, many and all rows and submit the form.
    3. Upon submission, the all data related to selected rows only should made available to a BPM process(either using Global Creation or Global Interactive activity)
I was able to have the JSP created with FTL tags but unable to transmit the data back to BPM process. Same has been accomplished using BPM Presentation. Can any one please help me with the JSP implementation? It is little urgent, so your early intervention is much solicited and coveted.
I will send you guys the code I have in case you need to review.

    Hi friends
I need to do the same feature, select elements, but in a tree object. I've followed the same approach - using a selectBooleanCheckBox in each node of the Tree. But, when I submit the page, the boolean property of my TreeNode object isnt changed.
    An Idea?
    thanks a lot!

  • Can Hyperion repository be migrated from Oracle to MySQL

    Hi Gurus,
I was wondering if Hyperion Repository can be migrated from an existing Oracle database to MySQL database. If yes, then how? Any kind of advice is greatly appreciated.
    Regards,
    Uday

    Hi,
First question is why you want to move from Oracle to MySQL as in newer versions of Hyperion MySQL is not supported anymore.
There is no direct way of migrating the database you would have to look at using a 3rd party conversion tool or writing some custom code.
    Cheers
