Business Catalyst Architecture Template Homepage Hero Slider

I am trying to get the homepage hero slider to fade instead of the default which is a slide transition. I am using a free template offered by Business Catalyst called Architecture, and have not changed or added anything to the script. Here is the url for the template Home Page

Okay, i figured out what it is. Might be a bug, not sure. If i create a template using dreamweaver and create editable areas, the only true editable area is the {page_content}. What's buggy is that when i download a page based on a template (page.html) through dreamweaver, it will download the page and in the code view it will show you the dreamweaver template and the editable areas you set. These cannot be changed. When you download page.html using a different FTP program, you will actually get the true contents of the page. So for example, if i enter

using BC adding a page and select a template, when downloaded through a different FTP client, the page will look like this:

When downloading through DW the page will look like the template:

In the second example, you can't actually add anything in the editableAreas. Don't know why DW does that. Any ideas?

Hi All,
I'm a beginner in Business Catalyst but I've 3yrs of experience in development and I've a running site in Business Catalyst.
I just want to change the complete theme of that running site. Could anyone please guide me that How can I do that without touching the running site. As I saw the testing server functionality in the DW-CS6 but don't know how to use that.

Hi Rony,
We don't have a theme creator however I think what you are after is who to go about changing the template that the site is currently wrapped in.
If so you'll need to work with the site-wide template of the site. If you plan on creating a custom template you can do so within DW CS6 or within the admin by creating a new template from scratch or uploading an existing custom template.

Can I design something in Muse and somehow get the HTML text fro it to plug into Business Catalyst to make a newsletter?

I guess since I don't know html, I was wondering if I could create a "page" in muse and somehow get the "HTML" text from it so I can plug that text into a Business Catalyst E-Mail Marketing Campaign template. since I am struggling so much with modifying one of Business Catalysts established templates.
I made my website with muse and I host it through Business Catalyst with a webMarketing Plan.

There is no direct way to achieve this but you may try a workaround which may work but would require testing on your end.
Create the site in Muse and publish to BC , master page will be included in template section. So in your published site , Page template will show you design from Muse.
Now from Partner portal , you can select the site to create email campaign template but please note that creating a template from PP will remove the default email campaign templates on BC end.
After creating the campaign template from PP , login to your site and create email campaign and in template section you will get the option to select the template which you created from PP.
Not an ideal way but can be used as a workaround.

Dreamweaver error when using Business Catalyst module tags in template

Hi all,
this is a recent and very distruptive error I have come accross in Dreamweaver CC.
When editing a document attached to a Business Catalyst template in Dreamweaver,
I was getting an error message (attached) saying:
"You have made changes to the code that is not marked as editable. If you retain those changes, they will be lost the next time you apply a template update to this file. Do you want to retain the changes until then?"
This happened every time I added a new html tag to the page, p div etc... which made DW unusable for editing files.
Having not got any useful help from BC support, they told me to contact Dreamweaver support!
In the end, I found through troubleshooting that it was the content holder module tags from Business Catalyst that were causing the problem,
I had recently converted my Header, Footer, Scripts etc to Content Holders in the site admin,
and when I removed these tags from my template and replaced them with the original html the problem disappeared.
The problem was happening on both my macs so the problem looked real to me,
but from searching online I couldn’t find people with similar issues, which made me think I must be doing something wrong.
As an aside,
I find the workflow between Dreamweaver CC and Business Catalyst, particularly in relation to DW templates very confusing.
I couldn’t find any up-to-date best practice guides for using DW in the Business Catalyst workflow that discusses the real issues I get every day:
- Best practice DW template editable region for {tag_pagecontent}
- BC pages updated from DW lose their page titles {tag_pagetitle} in BC admin (always causes problems for me)
If anyone is having these issues and found a way to get around them I’d be very interested,
I hope that this post will help some people who run into the same problem.

I found what may be at least a temporary solution to this problem. The error seems to something to do with the template file not having been updated, so whenever DW reads the file it looks like the template code has been changed (which of course it hasn't). It may be to do with the way BC treats the template code on the server side, as it seemed to start happening after I had downloaded some files from the server.
I opened the affected page and clicked Modify->Templates->Update Current Page and so far no error messages. Just one gotcha though. If you have any BC tags or Liquid code in your templates, DW converts it all to some kind of gobbledegook, so before you update the Template, copy all of your editable code and then paste it back in once the update has been done.

Business Catalyst templates not containing content in Muse built site

I am currently upgrading a clients website and have recently got into designing using Muse and thought I would try out the BUsiness Catalyst system to host it all etc. I wanted to use muse for the more static opages and the the blog for case studies and the ecommerce section for the product catalogue (even though we will not be selling online).
All was going swimmingly until I found the pages I had created for the main template pages {tag_pagecontent} or any other module on that note. The site search results was doing it too if the results can over a certain length. Its seemed that the page would be stuck at a standard height. I have dragged the content box down to meet the footer guide so in theory it expands the page when it has to but for some reason this isnt working for me. I am not sure if it is how I have sut up the footer or the page or the way I have the master pages working or something. I have tried various options but am about to give up. I either have to bin business catalyst or just use muse to create the whole catalogue but with over 200 products this could take some time.
I woudld appreciated some help from some more experienced users or techincal heads. I hope it is an easy fix or there is some way around it.

Also the sticky footer on these template pages and pages with module content (i.e the search results page) isnt sticking to the bottom as you can scroll past it. Which leads me to believe its something to do with the footer I have set up.

It took too long to get an answer so I am now using another system that doesnt have this problem. Hopefully when I use Muse again I wont have this problem. Sorry.

Using a Muse template in Business Catalyst

How can I use a template I created in Muse for my blog that is hosted on Adobe Business Catalyst? Creating web content in Muse is a lot easier and faster. I'm pretty familiar with Muse and BC, but I can't figure out how to do.
Currently I created a simple header and footer in BC and inserted {tag_pagecontent}. However, I'm much better at manuevering in Muse. I would also be able to be more creative in Muse.

I tried creating a page and inserting the {tag_pagecontent} in the Object>Insert HTML section. However, when that tag was on the page, the server kept throwing an error; it couldn't find the page. When I took the {tag_pagecontent} off of the page, it found the page.

Muse templates for Business Catalyst

Before the recent update for mobile devices I was able to atuomatically upload templates for webapps in Business Catalyst. Now it removed all my templates and does not to upload. Does anyone have this problem?

Can you help send your Muse file to muse-support at adobe dot com with a link to this thread, and also some information on what page is set as a template, etc.? Thanks.

Pages which base on a Business Catalyst template are not editable in Live-View?

As long as the page is not a template, all these neat new edit-features of Dreamweaver work without problems. But as soon as I create a template and define an editable region with the Business Catalyst Tag {tag_pagecontent}, the content put inside this regions is no longer editable in Live-View. Is this a bug or has it just been forgotten to implement?

Thank you for contacting us.
Muse works on the ".muse" file. Even If you download an Adobe Business Catalyst template you will not get the MUSE file for it and MUSE will not be able to open it.

I'm hoping someone can help me out!
Maybe i'm misunderstanding how BC and Muse are tied together, a website just fell in my lap recently. I'm trying to figure out what in Muse is telling Business Catalyst to generate a template for it.
I have many templates inside Muse but only a couple of them are being generated inside of Business Catalyst.
Basically, if I was to make a new template in Muse, how would I tell BC that I want it to be a template I can use there as well?

Make sure that you insert the {tag_pagecontent} using the 'object -> insert html' option and not insert this tag on a master page, instead insert it on a web page.

How do I make it so my client can edit Links in business catalyst when they create new pages?

Okay so essentially I have built a site in Muse uploaded to business catalyst and I've setup a site template so that the client can create new pages as each new course arrives, but how do I get the link from the homepage to link to the new page? basically I need the link to be editable.
What would be ideal is a kind of portfolio layout where there is a thumbnail and a new page but for my client to be able to add a new project adn it would create a thumbnail on the homepage and a new page that he can edit. Does anyone know of something like that possible in Business catalyst?

Editing with Business Catalyst only works with image or text editing , we cannot add new page or page items using in browser editing.
However, you can manage the site from BC end when your client and login to admin and add pages, modify etc, but if you re-publish the site from Muse then then changes will be overwritten.

Relationship of IFormat with Adobe Business Catalyst

In my search for a manual for Business Catalyst, which I could not find, I stumbled upon iFormat, which does a credible job of setting up a BC web design. I don't know if iFormat is a part of BC or not, and I may be in over my head. Anybody know anything?

They just churn out cheap basic BC sites based on what looks like a couple of templates and probably overcharge to do what they produce.
That is harsh, but thats my profesional opinon.

How do I merge the content of one website into another with Business Catalyst?

I have two websites, each of them are Business Catalyst websites.
I would like to merge website 1 with website 2, so they are on the same domain.
Each website will effectively be put into it's own directory on the same domain, with the homepage allowing a visitor to decide which website they would like to see.
Is there an easy way to do this? I have a feeling it's a matter of copying all the content across, modifying the templates and doing everything manually page by page - which wouldn't be fun.

Help with code for inserting horizontal scroll bar in photo gallery in Business Catalyst site?

Hi,
I am using Business Catalyst and Dreamweaver to create a trial site.
I am not sure if this is the correct forum to post this request but anyway I have inserted a photo gallery module at the bottom of the sidebar in the homepage of my test site.
Can anyone advise on whether jquery or any other code can be inserted into the page or module code that will replace the "next" hyperlink below the first 4 photos with a horizontal scroll bar at bottom of the gallery so users can just scroll through all 12 images ?
