Business Intelligence Center and Dashboards

Does anyone know of good and easy to follow tutorials or instructions on how to setup a business intelligence center and create dashboards?  Anything I need to do on the SQL side?
Running 2013 enterprise and 2012 SQL on 2008 R2 Server
Thanks

What kind of data are you reporting on?  There are several different types of BI products, such as SSRS, PerformancePoint, and PowerPivot.  Each of these has its pros and cons.  For example, if your data is not in a cube, then PerformancePoint
is not very useful.  Here's an example blog from Microsoft, which explains a bit of this.  As a consultant, a typical conversation about getting started with BI and dashboards usually lasts about 2 hours.

  • Creating Business Object Reports and Dashboards utilizing Informatica

I need to create Business Object Reports and Dashboards utilizing Informatica database. Please let me know what connections I need to create to integrate the data into Web Intelligence, Universe, Xcelsius, and Crystal Reports.
    Thank you

I've just done some quick checking and I don't see a native connection type for Infomatica in Designer or Crystal.  (Designer is a tool for building universes - WebI and Xcelsius both read data through a universe, Crystal can read data through a direct connection to the database or through a universe.) This means you'll probably have to set up a "generic" ODBC connection in order to connect to it.

  • Business Intelligence Center - User Training

I am the Project Server Administrator, but I'm a project manager with a business degree [not a DBA/IT professional].  My predecessor implemented the project portion of Project Server 2010, and I have to implement the Business Intelligence Center.  I
know I need training, but there are so many options - everything from online guides to days-long classes in other countries.  The online guides aren't helpful to me.  Since I'm so new to Project Server and BIC, I need a more hands-on training approach.
However, cost is a factor and traveling out-of-state (let alone out-of-country) is cost-prohibitive.  I'm in Michigan.
Any recommendations for BIC implementation training for a non-IT person?

    Julie
In your search, do not look for Microsoft Project or Project Server, rather look for Tech Training companies that specialize in SQL, SharePoint and Excel Services. Understand that the BI Center is pure SharePoint functionality. I give you a high level overview
of this in my Implementing and Administering book. The BI center uses Office Data Connection (ODC) files, which are Excel Workbook files that contain a connection string and either a SQL query, or an oData query (2013 and later). You connect to these using
Excel to retrieve the datasets. Microsoft provides a number of these out of the box to connect to the reporting database and the OLAP cubes.
If you've got the Excel skills, the you should be good to go. The next hurdle is understanding the dataset. For that you should download and install the Project 2010 SDK, which contains the data dictionary for the reporting store, should you need to change
an existing SQL query or create your own. Start by looking at the sample reports, which should give you some insight on how to handle project data.

  • When will the SAP Mobile BI Android SDK to embed analytic views (Web Intelligence reports and Dashboards) in custom mobile Android App be supported/

    hi all,
SAP Mobile BI IOS SDK provides such SDK to embed analytic views (Web Intelligence reports and Dashboards) supported by the SAP BI application inside your own custom mobile applications, while Android SDK does not provide such sdk. I would like to know if there is any plan or roadmap to support this interface in Android SDK?

Thank you Vishwanath for your reply. We already developed an Android App, and just want to embed and open SAP BO report directly inside our own App, instead of launching SAP Mobile BI App.

  • Configure Business intelligence site and performance point services

    Hi
i created a new Business intelligence site in my web application and after that how i configure performance point service.
    and  below Configuration is needed?
1-            Configure the secure store service
    2-            Create service application
    3-            Start PerformancePoint Service
4-            Configure Excel Services and SQL Server Reporting Services integration
    adil

    Hi,
According to your post, my understanding is that you wanted to configure PerformancePoint Services in SharePoint 2010.
In order to use PerformancePoint Services in Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010, you need to configure a PerformancePoint Services service application. Once you have created the service application, you need to provide data access to the users. This can be done
by using the unattended service account, or by configuring Kerberos delegation.
You can follow the steps as below to configure PerformancePoint Services.
    1. Create and configure a PerformancePoint Services service application:
       • Configure the PerformancePoint Services application pool account
       • Start the PerformancePoint service
       • Create a PerformancePoint Services service application
       • Configure service application associations
    2. Configure the unattended service account for PerformancePoint Services:
       • Configure the secure store service
       • Configure the unattended service account
       • Grant that account access to your data sources

Is this possible or does the BI SE require an enterprise edition database?
    Please help

  • New to Business Intelligence - Installation and Configuration

Reading all the documents associated with OBIEE, OBIA, DAC server, DAC client, and Informatica Powercenter has my head swimming (drowning). Can someone throw me a rope?
I'm going through an eBS implementation with 11g DB and 12.0.6 eBS (all on Linux) and I have been required to install and configure all the above. In a DEV environment, I have OBIEE running on a vm Windows 2003 server and need to install OBIA and IPC. According to the IPC doc's this requires 7 pc's/servers. Can someone provide a sample (functioning) environment?
    Thanks.

I have three servers for my setup and an EBS data source server:
    DB/OBIEE Server: Oracle Linux 5
-Oracle DB 10G: holds OBAW & Informatica/DAC Repositories
    -Has OBIEE 10.1.3.4.1 & OBI Apps 7.9.6
    DAC/Informatica Server: Oracle Linux 4
    -DAC Server
    -Informatica 8.6.0 HF4
DAC/Informatics Client Server: Windows Server 2003
    -DAC Client
    -Informatica Client
Installation is quite long-winded but is well outlined in Chapter 3 & 4 of the installation guide:

  • Project Server 2010 Business Intelligence performance issue

    Hello,
We've setup a Project Server 2010 Business intelligence center and everything seems to be working fine.
The next day when users attempt to open Sample reports an error occurs that when we apply the "refresh all Data connections" a couple of times everything works fine.
How do we ensure that this strange issue of "fake un-related" errors are not occuring for users.
Once the BI is accessed by a few people then the reports seem to work the first time otherwise if you are the first one running them in the morning you have to retry 4 to 5 times for the excel spreadsheet to show up?

    Hello Claude
While there is a list to things to double check when configuring Secure Store, I think the first thing I will do is "Set Credentials".   The password may be been changed or if several attempts to using the account is tried, it may have gotten
    locked out.

  • SharePoint 2013 Business Intelligence

    Hi All, <o:p></o:p>
I read and watched a couple of TechNet vidoes and some external websites about SP2013 Business Intelligence. Most of websites used AdventureWorks Database
    to show the BI capabilities.<o:p></o:p>
However, we have our own Excel files that we need to display on SharePoint 2013 including KPIs, charts, reports and will be used by managers.<o:p></o:p>
    I have a couple of questions: <o:p></o:p>
Q1: I need to design tables in
SQL Server 2012 (will give the database name to be BI) with information of Excel files. Is this approach correct before I embark designing database tables?<o:p></o:p>
    Q2: After
I design the tables, I need to show end users their information using BI database in the SharePoint 2013 out of the box forms to type in their user
details. This user information will eventually become a business intelligence centre and shown to managers with KPIs and charts. How could I display SP2013 Forms with custom
SQL Server 2012 database that I would be creating? Can I use business connectivity services to display external database? Or any other way to display user information from custom database? <o:p></o:p>
    Please advise.

    1. You can, but you can also leave the data in Excel and use PowerPivot services to display it.
    2. For BI, BCS won't be enough,as you'll typically will display the info in some type of report. You can do that in PowerPivot or display that data in an SSRS report (Report Services in SharePoint integrated mode). The latter is better for KPIs. FInally,
you could use PerformancePoint to create KPI dashboards, but right now I'm thinking you don't need to use that in this situation, it provides more than it seems you're needing.
