Button widget pauses audio

Using Captivate 5, I inserted the Button.SWF widget. The button has the action "Open URL or file." The slide has audio on it. If I play the slide within Captivate, using the play button on the timeline, the audio plays perfectly. However, when previewing the slide, the audio comes to an abrupt stop soon after the button appears.
I don't see a Pause After setting for the button widget, either in the Widget Properties or in the Properties panel.
If it would help anyone to take a look at the slide, let me know by private message and I'll provide a link. Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.

Hi Jay,
Are you talking about the Buttons widget or the Flash button? If it is the first, which is a static widget, in CP5.0 it has a pausing point that you cannot change (about at 10 secs if I remember well). Captivate 5.5 ships with a static button widget that has no pausing point, and the team created also one that pauses at half its duration.
But what you describe seems to be something else, because you say that audio stops immediately when the button appears? And you want this button to be there, to open an URL when user clicks?
What do you mean by 'play the slide within Captivate'? Is that F3 which is not a real preview because no SWF is created? And the other preview is one of the other options?

  • Button Widget stops audio

I'm using the button widget in Captivate 5, which is great. Except that it causes the slide audio to stop about 6.5 seconds into a slide - as though the slide becomes Inactive. I can't find a way to change this. Does anyone have a suggestion?

    Hi Lieve,
Regarding your first concerns : For the static button widget we didn't want to make it to pause the slide at any time. This would behave just like any other static captivate object though we could have actions associated with it which would get triggered on clicking this. However you could enter a feature request whereby this widget pause time could be set as a parameter(in the Widget Properties dialog) which would make it pause at that time for user to click. This would be helpful when this widget is inserted on Question slides. Pausing at 6.5 secs is a bit misleading so this property was removed from the Widget.
Regarding the second concern : The second widget is just the interactive version of the same static widget which would have the additional 2 properties :
    1.Pause for user interactions
2.We would get the success/failure/hint captions accordingly when clicked inside/outside the button widget.
However since we have actions which could be set from the widget properties dialog itself , we need to set it there in order for the appropriate action to get triggered.
These widgets have been created so that the user can place buttons with different themes/colors/look and feel in his/her project as per their requirements.

  • Add Button to Play Audio

Rick and other experts, this should be an easy one but damn,
I can't get it to work.
Situation: 6 second Captivate slide (an imported, text only
from PPT). A back and next button control navigation appearing at
.5 and pausing at 5.5 No other objects or graphics on the slide.
Problem: I want to add a 'play' button that will allow the
student to hear an audio recap of the information. However, I want
the button to also appear at .5 seconds. I've tried different
variations but regardless of where the play button is put or where
the 'pause' is placed on the timeline, the audio still runs without
clicking. I don't want it to do that.
Any solution other than a jump to?

    Hi there
There should be several ways to accomplish this.
    * If the audio is at the slide level, stage it so it doesn't
"appear" until .5, .6 or .7 seconds in. Then configure the button
    to pause at .5 seconds.
    * Configure the button with a Success caption and attach the
    audio to the success caption
    * Insert the audio on the next slide and have the button
    simply open the next slide
There are other ways as well. Just tossed out a few.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Adding an image to the Static Button Widget

    Hi all
I managed to convince my client to let me do my own navigation instead of using the by default navigation bar and its limitations. I finally will be able to do branching and customised feedback on several slides! Great. BUT. There is a but. I need to make the new buttons look like the current ones: Pause/Play, previous, next, TOC and Exit.
I was happy to discover that I could use a static button widget on my master to deal with my previous and next buttons for all my standard slides. But when I try to add an image of my button the way I want it to look, it looks like that:
If I resize the button the picture remains at the same size:
I don't get the Image feature here at all and I wonder if it's possible to customise the button with our own pictures...
    Any success anybody?

Alright thanks for your suggestions. Yes I am publishing to a slightly different location and I pasted the picture at the root of the published folder. The pic is found but it appears tiny:
It should replace the button by default but it is added to the button actually, by its side.
    Cheers

  • Button widget 'back' bug

    Hi,
I am pretty new to captivate (using 5) so am not sure if this is a bug or if there is something else I need to add to my slides,
I have used the button widget to create forward and back buttons on my master slide to give the user control of the presentation. On the first time through the presentation the forward button works fine with the slides not advancing until this has been pressed but if I use the back button at any point in the presentation it then plays at the original speed runnign through all of the slides.
Once the user has returned to check something or re-read something on the previous slide I would like this to pause until the click the next slide button again.
The end presentation is part of a course and overall there will be a few hundred slides so I am trying to avoid having to add something individually onto each slide - unless there is a quick way to do this?
    Thanks,
    Mary

    Hello,
Not sure if I understand the issue, have been using the button widget on master slides.
A quick way to have a normal button on all slides (or multiple buttons): put them on one slide, and do all the configuration, then copy them, select all the other slides in the filmstrip and paste. They will all have the same functionality and be in the same position.
Another idea: there is also a PerpetualButton widget: put it on the first slide and set its timing for the rest of the project. But of course, you have to like that button or to adapt it in Flash.

  • Toggle button (play/pause) problem when using smart shape

    Hi,
I am utilizing smart shape as button. I have one play button, and pause button, on top of each other. When "play" is clicked then I display "pause" button, and hide "play" button. Vice versa for pause button. And, I set the buttons to be displayed in the rest of the project. The problem is that buttons are working so irregularly. In some slides they may stop toggling, and when I do go back to previous or next slides, they may start working again, but they may mul-function in other slides then.
Did anybody run into this problem? How can I solve it?
P.S. I cannot user widgets, because of incompatibility with html5.

Thanks for sharing your blog. I actually did whatever you explained in your blog. I created advance actions. I labeled the buttons, btn_Play, btn_Pause, respectively. And, in "Play" advance action, I added the following command "Show -> btn_Pause", "Hide -> btn_Play", and vice versa for "Pause" advance action. It is working, but irregularly.
As the example in your blog, If I test it in the single slide, it is working great. However, if I do consequetive transitions to other slides fastly, it sometimes stops working (for example, when I click "Play" button, the "play" button does not disappear, and "pause" button does not show up). I know this sounds so weird!
Also, another point is that I did not use master slide, I just put them in the first slide, and set them visible for the rest of the project. I see that you did not recommend this practice.

  • Button Widget - Need it to jump to next slide, not simply continue

I'm new to Cp 5.5. I was an expert in Cp4 and prior versions, but due to work changes I've not worked with Captivate in a few years and am just getting back into it. Definitely things have changed!
I setup a master slide and at the top-right I placed one of the static SWF button widgets that comes with Captivate. In the options for it I set it to go to the next slide when clicked, however upon preview it is continuing on the same slide and not jumping to the next one. I tried it with a few of the swf buttons and they all work the same. Am I doing something wrong? Or is the code broken on these buttons?
If the latter, then I guess my option, if I really want to keep the look of the button (I do), then is to just use it as an image button?

    Hello and welcome back,
The static button coming with Captivate 5.5 has no pausing point but it should work OK, does for me anywat. How did you test? Can you insert a text caption with the system variable rdinfoCurrentFrame to see if there is indeed no jump to next slide?
If you want the static button with a pausing point, at half its duration, you can download it from my blog:
    What I (dis)like in Captivate 5.5
I do not understand your last question? You want only the image, not the functionalities of that button? You should be aware that only static objects can be inserted on a master slide, not interactive objects.

  • Multi state buttons and video/audio

I am working on an interactive pdf. Right now I have audio set to automatically play on page load. I need the ability to be able to make this button multistate. In that its appearance when the page comes on is a pause button which pauses the audio ( I have it set to this right now and it functions fine), but then I need to have it shift to a play button and perform the action of resuming the audio when the user clicks on it.
Also I have set a button to load video, its an mp4 file. Is there a way I can set an action to the button that takes it off the screen along with the audio completely? Currently I am able to set an animation over it so that when you click or hover over it, it will go away, but the sound that is in the video doesn't go away.
I am having problems also with buttons that should link to open a pdf file. One works fine. All the others do not??? Little hand cursor does not even appear when I hover over them to show that they are link, but when I check in the file they are.
Help needed for deadline of tomorrow! Help!
    Thanks

Here is a workaround I posted a couple years ago for a two-function button which might help you:
    http://indesignsecrets.com/creating-a-two-function-button-for-interactive-pdf-or-swf.php
I don't believe your second request is possible.
Setting buttons to open up other files is extremely tricky and hard to set up because the file hierarchy must be maintained. It works best if all the files can always be in the same folder.

  • Button Pointing to audio file in same directory

I'm fairly new to Flash, but have gotten the hang of it for
    the most part.
I'm trying to create audio buttons that will play vocabulary
words when clicked on for a language learning website. I can create
buttons that play audio when clicked, but as of now the only way I
know how to do it is to add the audio directly to the swf file. The
problem is this takes up about 24kb of space, and there will be
about 20 copies of the button per page, each for a different
    vocabulary word.
I was thinking it would be nice if I could use the exact same
swf file to save on loading time, but have it point towards
different audio files. Basically, I figure if the audio is built
into the swf file, when the page loads it will take a long time,
because it will load all of the audio along with the files. if it
points separately, it will only load the audio when the button is
    clicked.
Is it possible to do this? I've heard that you can use the
object tag to point towards separate audio files, but am not too
sure on how to pull that off. I'm just looking for a way to use the
button I've created and keep speeds reasonable when loading the
webpage. Loading 30 audio files at the beginning can slow it down,
especially if they only plan on playing a couple of them. Each mp3
is only a few kb larger than a swf file with the audio already in
it, so the compression of mp3 in a swf (at least from what I know)
didn't do too much for my case.
I figure I can put all the audio files in a folder along with
    the swf file.

  • How to Use an Image to Customize the Static Button Widget

Can I just get someone to help me figure out how to use an image to customize the static button widget, please?
I have tried using several different types of images, but none of them seem to actually change the appearance of the button.
    Thanks!
    Laura
    Captivate 5.5

I tried to use the tools within the widget itself - it offers you the opportunity to use an image (see screenshot below).
I also opened it in Flash and tried to replace the images for one of the button styles there w/ my own, but in re-publishing the SWF from there I broke the widget.  When I attempted to use the edited widget, there were no customization controls available after I inserted it (see screenshot two below).

  • How do I make a Radio Button Widget Report to an LMS?

Alright....still trying to solve my basic problem.....
I can put in a radio button widget which looks great, but radio buttons do not report info to LMS.  THen I can use Ravvi's code style to set a variable based on which radio button was clicked and then take a specific action depending on the value.  The action I want is to send info to LMS.  How can I do this?

I may have, but I have run across many Survey forms that do exactly that.
Some also have checkboxes as well and they are used for Check all that apply.
For all I know they may be using JavaScript code for the buttons to react the way the do.
I don't know if any of you are old enough to remember the old two button light switches. push one in and the others pop out. Push the other in and the first pops out.  That's the button action I see on many survey forms.
I am not saying it correct. But if its not correct, how does one change their mind if the clicked the wrong choice?

  • Radio Button Widget Highlight Options

In Captivate 5.5, is it possible for the standard radio button widget (RadioButtons.swf) to not have a highlight color behind the text? I just want a transparent background with text so the master slide background shows. Adjusting the Alpha Channel only effects the radio buttons themselves, not the highlight color.

Hello and welcome to the forum,
But I have bad news, having explored this widget a lot, and struggled with that 'highlight color' a lot. I try to put it on a uniform colored background and apply the background color as a Highlight. Didn't find another way.
Perhaps a tip: do download the enhanced version of this widget, that allows you to control it more (variable can be changed by advanced actions and displayed). It was created by Jim Leichliter (CaptivatePro) and it is FREE:

  • Adding full screen code into Captivate 5's basic Button Widget

    Hi everyone!
I was able to create a full screen button in Flash that works with Captivate 5 projects, however, I want to be able to active the full screen feature for every button created using the basic 'button' widget that comes with the Captivate program.  I am not a AS3 programmer so I think my issue is that I am confused as  to where to place the full screen code into the existing 'button widget'  code. • How can I map a keyboard shortcut to the reacord button in the Audio Mixer Panel?

I have been recording voiceovers in Premiere Pro CS5 for a while, but I would like to improve my work flow. Each time I record a take, I first press the record button (labeled as B below) with the mouse cursor and then press the Play button with the Spacebar keyboard shortcut. After I record the audio, I hit Stop and this toggles the record button off at the same time. I then must hit the record button again with the mouse to start the process over again.
Is there a way to map a keyboard shortcut to the record button in the audio panel so that I don't have to touch the mouse when recording voiceovers?

There is not currently a shortcut for this. That's a good feature request, though. You can submit feature requests here.

    Hi,
Do you have any idea about how to get the class name (ex: kSplineItemBoss) from a ClassID.
    I know how to get the class id;
                                                      ClassID unknownClassID = ::GetClass(unknown);
I found it from an example..
now i want to know which class name related to that ClassID..
    Thanks.
