Buttons not exporting to pdf

Hi Everyone,
I created an oval shape with an ellipse to be used as a button. I converted it to a button and applied an action so that it went to a destination bookmark I created earlier. I placed the button on my master page but when I export to interactive pdf it doesn't show on the pdf file. I also tried taking it off the master page and put it on a document page but I'm still getting the same result.
If I use the sample buttons that come with Indesign CS5, these buttons appear on an exported pdf but it seems that any custom button I make doesn't work.
I wondered if anyone else has had similar problems and if there's a workaround?
Appreciate any help.

Hi everyone,
I uninstalled, then re-installed indesign. After I did this, I was able to export to an interactive pdf with the buttons working correctly. The only problem is that when you export to interactive pdf, it produces spreads in a facing pages document like I have. I used a script to toggle this setting off so that it was single pages on export, however when I did this the buttons no longer appeared in the resulting pdf, so it seems the script is doing something to affect the buttons.
I wondered if anyone knows of a workaround?
Would be really grateful for any advice.

  • Buttons not exporting to PDF from CS5

Howdy, all. I've a problem exporting documents containing buttons to PDF. Specifically, CS5 doesn't export interactive buttons placed in my InDesign document to interactive buttons in a PDF file; they show up, instead, as simple, non-interactive graphics. (No pointing fingers, no actions.)
This is true for all documents I have created in or imported into CS5.
As a test, I went back to CS4 and created a document with a single button chosen from the "Sample Buttons," to which I attached the "Next Page" action. Exporting to PDF from CS4 works fine; I get a functioning Next Page button in the resulting PDF file. Opening the same InDesign document in CS5 and exporting with the same settings to PDF yields a non-functioning button graphic appearing on the PDF page.
Opening the PDF file in BBEdit, I see that there is no "Fields" entry in the PDF file's Catalog dictionary, so it seems as though the button is, indeed, being exported into the PDF file as a simple graphic.
What obscure CS5 setting (presumably hiding in plain sight) am I missing?
By the way, CS5 does export the buttons correctly to swf.
    Thanks much.
    - John

In CS5 you have to change the export type to an 'Adobe PDF (Interactive)' to get the buttons to work.
Bit of a pain because you can't save presets like you can with the standard PDF export, but you can specify some of the PDFs view settings at the same time.  In my view they should have just added all that functionality to the standard PDF export, but perhaps that wasn't possible.  However it was a dud decision to remove working button export from the other PDF export.

  • Bleeding background shape will not export to PDF

    Hello everyone,
I am working in InDesign v. 7.0.3 and when I set a rectangle to bleed on all sides it will not export to PDF (using Adobe Acrobat Pro, v. 9.4.2) . That being said, shapes and text within the page all show up. Does anyone have any suggestions that might solve this very annoying mystery?
Thank you in advance for your help!
P.S. I should add that the save dialog box presents a desktop icon that does show the complete file.

No background at all? not just bleed not showing?
If it's restricted to this file, try Remove minor corruption by exporting
If it's all files, Replace Your Preferences

    Hi wishborne,
I'm here to help! Are you unable to log in to ExportPDF, or unable to convert files once you're logged in? I tried to check your order history, but don't see any orders under the email address that you use here. Did you perhaps sign up using a different email address, or sign up via Adobe Reader?
I look forward to hearing back from you. We will get to the bottom of this.
    Best,

  • Pages 5.1 not exporting to pdf properly

When I export or print my pages document as a pdf, some text is missing in the resulting pdf.
Is there a way to fix it?
    Thanks,
    Rapolas

    Yes, it does.
I have a few sentences within a single cell, and half of the second sentence is missing.
In Pages 5.1, the document looks like this:
Whereas the exported or printed pdf is:
The only acceptable workaround I could find was to export to pages 09 format, open it with pages 4.3 and export as pdf. That one looks just the way it is supposed to. But it is not a solution.
The worst thing is that you cannot spot the defect at a glance. Neither can I trust the export as pdf function.

  • Table of Contents bookmarks not exporting to PDF (CS5)

I have a 200 page book made up of 15 documents.  I've created a table of contents based on paragraph styles and the TOC generates and formats correctly.  When I create the TOC, the Create PDF Bookmarks box is checked.  When I export the whole book I've tried it with Create Tagged PDF checked and unchecked.
After I export to PDF from the Book palette, the TOC items are links (at least they give me the pointer-hand icon) but they don't go anywhere.  The only one that does is the one in the same document as the TOC.  (I have tried the TOC both within a chapter and also in it's own document with no other links in it).  The behavior is the same in the Bookmarks pane - all are shown but only one works.  I've looked at several of the bookmarks' Properties > Actions.  It says its "Going to a page in another document" > (document-name-of-the-correct-chapter-but-with-pdf-instead-of-indd.pdf) > Page 1 (this is correct) > Zoom level: actual size.
This isn't right - it's pointing to an imaginary pdf that doesn't exist.  It should be pointing to page X in the current document.
    Here's what I've tried:
    * restarting InDesign
    * restarting my machine
    * deleting the TOC and regenerating it
    * generating the book with all documents open or all documents closed
    * moving the TOC to its own document
    * probably some other things I've forgotten in the struggle
All of the links and references in the individual documents are good.
I've looked around these forums and this seems to be an ongoing and unsolved issue for other folks using older versions.  This is the closest I came to finding an answer but ended up with an Adobe employee logging it as a bug in 2009.  Bookmarks not exporting from InDesign to PDF in CS4                     By (c_goates)
So here's hoping there is some new information.  I've been trying to get this to work for far too long and don't relish drawing bookmark boxes around all 55 of my text links.

Sorry this is so long, but details help, usually.  Thanks in advance for any advice.

There are some known problems with bookmarks and CS5 as well. As far as I know, the 7.0.3 update won't fix them, but it does solve some other problems, so you should install it.

  • Chapter Headings Are Not Exporting to PDF as h1-h3 tags

With two-column layouts, even though I assigned PDF export tags to the chapter heading Paragraph Styles, they are not being exported to PDF with h1-3 tags.

  • Keynote symbols not exporting to PDF

How do I make Keynote export % symbols to a PDF? For some reason it is not exporting. I tried using multiple fonts. I was pretty surprised to see that Keynote was leaving characters off of exports. Usually Apple is pretty good about accuracy.
    Yosemite OS 10.10.2
    Keynote 6.5.2 (2119)
    Macbook Pro 15 Retina
    Fonts tried:  Helvetica, Futura Std
Could not export % symbols adjacent to numbers

Sorry. my bad on version numbers. The latest patch for CS4 is 6.0.6, but you might want to stop at 6.0.5 if you have file with imported Illustrator graphics because, if memory serves, the 6.0.6 patch changes the way they are scaled on relink.
Do you actually have an InDesign Document open when you go to File > Export...? I presume the answer is yes or the command would not be active.
When the export dialog opens you should see a standard file save dialog with a large area that shows folders and files, and two fields below where you can enter a name and choose a file type to export. What do you see in the file type field? If it isn't PDF, can you click the arrow on the end and choose Adobe PDF?
What is showing in the name field? Are you able to enter a new name of your choice?
I suspect that at some point you may have changed the name of the PDF you exported from the file (the default is to use the same file name, but you can enter anything you like), then saved the .indd file after doin the export. When you do this you embed the new PDF file name into the file and it will always be selected the next time you try to export. If I recall correctly, exporting to .idml or .inx, then opeing that and resaving as a new .indd should clear that, and simply changing the name for the export to match the filename  of the docuemtn may work as well.

  • Hyperlinks not exporting to pdf.

We have a report that has hyperlinks to different pages in the report. I did this by formatting text as a hyperlink and using a formula to generate the link in the format #page=5 when this was exported to pdf, the links worked perfectly and linked back to the appropriate page in the same pdf. This was done in Crystal 9. Now we have upgraded to Crystal 11 and it does not work anymore. I can look at the contents of the pdf and it does not appear that any links are exporting to pdf. Is this feature broken in CR11? Does anyone know when this will be fixed?

    previdn,
Pages to my knowledge does not retain the multimedia elements when exporting pdfs. The manual is not illuminating on the subject. I thought it might be possible that the media element is a reference and requires the external file to be present, usually in the same location, in the same folder both when you create it and try to play it back.
However I just did some experiments in Pages, Preview and Acrobat, including the propinquity and making the file, media and .pdf carry the same name. The media just is not referenced from the exported .pdf document. What you are seeing is the "poster" frame of the QT movie, in your case the black rectangle.
Media files are normally added to a .pdf in Acrobat Pro, after they are created, where you can add much more control over how they are viewed and launched.
Until Apple fixes this, your only choice is to do this in KeyNote which has excellent media exporting.
You could try Numbers as well on the off chance Apple implemented this function there.

  • Special letters do not export to PDF from InDesign CS4

I have just installed Indesign CS4 and gathered all the fonts I needed from my old computer. Everything has gone well until I tried to export my document to PDF. The PDF showed the Icelandic special "Ð" and "Þ" letters as a missing letter, a white space or a simple box. This only happens in several typefaces, namely Helvetica Neue, Cohin and Times. (and maybe some others). Note that the special letters are shown in InDesign. I reckon that there is some problem whit the export… Can anybody help me?

You can check the "Advanced" section when you export the PDF to make sure that fonts are being embedded. Both d-with-bar and thorn are part of the glyph complement of Helvetica Neue, so either the font is not being embedded, or something is wrong in ID. You can also go to the "Composition" section of the Preferences and put a check into the "Substituted Glyphs" box to make sure that the d-with-bar and thorn that are appearing in your ID doc are actually part of the font (which they should be).

  • Xcelsius 2008 will not export to PDF at ver higher than 5.3.2.0

At the begining of this process I was using 5.3.0.0. When I read posts about SP4 I decided to go ahead and upgrade. As soon as I did I could no longer export dashboards to a PDF file. After many deletes and re-installs I discovered that if I tried to upgrade past ver 5.3.2.0 the export to PDF would break. I also tried the trial of Presentation 2011 and had the same thing happen - no ability to export to a PDF. I have duplicated this behavior on two different machines. An XP Pro box and a Windows 7 laptop. The error I get from Acrobat talks about a trust issue with a document. I have a screen shot of the error.

Just found the answer on the BOB forum. It is permissions in Acrobat.
Go to > Edit > Preferences > Multimedia Trust (legacy)
Select the "Other Documents" radio button and highlight "Permission for Adobe (R) Flash (R) Player is set to . . ."
Then change the drop down selection to "Always"
After doing this I upgraded my software to SP4 and all works.

  • File will not export to PDF

I am creating an InDesign book composed of multiple placed PDF files. Whenever I go to export this book as a new print PDF, I keep receiving an error message that says "1 problem (1 failure) was found with a background task: Failed to export the PDF file."  I have narrowed it down to one particular PDF within the book that seems to be causing the problem. However, I don't really know enough about PDF files to determine what the problem actually is. Does anyone have any idea what may be going on here or have any other things for me to look into to provide further information? Thanks!

Never mind! I'm not sure what the actual problem was, but after printing the file that was having the issue and re-scanning it as a new file, everything worked out.

  • Custom font not exported in PDF

    Hello Guys,
In my web application, I have a crystal report developed in CR11 R2 SP3. The report uses custom font and it works fine when shown in report viewer.
However I get errors while exporting report as PDF.
    1) In windows 2003 server, the pdf is exported without the font values.
    2) In Windows XP, pdf is not exported at all and I get an error:
    Error in File C:

    Error detected by export DLL.
Can anybody please help. One more thing. The custom font is fine and has been working fine in other crystal report based applications.
    Thanks,
    Shahzad

    Ok, two suggestions:
    A)
    1) On your web app that throws the error, place label and a text box on your web form
    2) Use the custom font for the label and in the text box
    3) Run the app
    Does that work?
    B)
If it does, I'd recommend using filemon and regmon utilities to fins out what is failing. Filemon can be found here:
    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/utilities/filemon.mspx
    Regmon is here;
    http://www.microsoft.com/technet/sysinternals/utilities/regmon.mspx
Instructions on how to use the above:
    1) Load Filemon
    2) Press Ctrl + L. This will bring up the filter window.
    3) In the 'include' text box, put the name of the aspnet worker process, without the full path. ie: aspnet_wp.exe (ok)
    4) Click <OK>
    5) Press Ctrl + X to clear the display.
    6) run your application, get it to the point where it errors.
    7) Save the filemon log. File -> Save as
    8) Look for files where the 'result' column is not successful.
    Regmon
Here is how to use it:
    1) Load Regmon
    2) Press Ctrl + L. This will bring up the filter window.
    3) In the 'include' text box, put the name of the aspnet worker process, without the full path. ie: aspnet_wp.exe
    4) Click <OK>
    5) Press Ctrl + X to clear the display.
    6) run your application, get it to the point where it errors.
    7) Save the Regmon log. File -> Save as
    8) Look for files where the 'result' column is not successful.

Do you happen to have Dial Assist on? This is in Settings>Phone. This is what helps the phone identify international numbers when dialing, based on location. See if turning that off/on makes a difference. Unless you are making a number of international calls, I believe this can be left off. See the User Guide http://manuals.info.apple.com/MANUALS/1000/MA1565/en_US/iphone_user_guide.pdf  Page 49 has info regarding Dial Assist.
