Did you buy your machine second-hand? That's really the only way you would have to purchase OS X 10.8.x from the App Store... but, yes, if you have a USB thumb drive with a bootable installer (such as made with Lion DiskMaker) you can boot from that and reinstall OS X.

Pardon the question, but you are checking the mac app store > Purchases (not iTunes or iTunes store or the app store for iDevices)? Have you tried holding the Option key while clicking on Purchases (shows hidden purchases).

Good Morning! As a feedback, I still prefer the physical purchase instead of downloads. It suppose to be easier and faster and always end up being slower, annoying and frustrating. i'm macbook Pro Retina display 15" user. i realised that this macbook does't have any Audio Line In/Out. I really need this to record audio direct from instrument to GarageBand. Any other way to do this?
Maybe the music pros will pop in soon (late night GarageBand sessions and all). From what I've read, most of the musical types around here use some sort of Firewire devices for audio in/out so you'd at the least need a Thunderbolt>Firewire adapter.
You might want to take your question to the GarageBand forum - https://discussions.apple.com/community/ilife/garageband - while a number of you musical types use MBPs, I would bet that you'd get more answers to your query in that forum.

I forgot my Apple ID password, as well as the security questions answers. Also, I currently can't use any of the rescue e-mails. Is there any other way I can reset my security answers or maybe reset the rescue e-mail? I called the Apple customer service and it was helpful, except I recieved an e-mail that expired 3 hours later, I can't call them again because I am overseas and it's really expensive to keep on calling international numbers! . I was able to restore my backup from my time machine ext drive to a new 1tb seagate ext drive. so i felt sort of ok. but yesterday that older ext drive i used for time machine wouldn't open! i called applecare and they trouble shooted with me and said it's probably a goner and data is probably corrupted. it's only a few years old and i'm very careful with it. my husband accidentally dropped my new drive last night -- i know, unbelievable, i was SO upset, poor guy -- but I'm so stressed with all of this. i have 10 years of photos and videos. so now i only have the one newer drive with a backup. i have to buy another one today to backup again so i at least have two backups. i tried to delete a ton of files last night to free up the 30 gb of space i need to get my full library back on my mac. i have 90gb free and deleted 7 years worth of photos i had on picasa that were in my "pictures" folder and also a ton or random photos and videos i had in that same pictures folder and thought that would give me the 30 gb but it hardly freed up any space at all! do you know why that is? all of this stuff is really a pain and really stressful. thank god i did have a backup in the first place but now i am panicked the one i have left will somehow crash. especially after my husband dropped the drive lastnight! it didn't fall far and fell onto a wood floor and seems fine, but after my older ext drive crashed yesterday -- and i lost my entire iphoto library a fewweeks ago off my mac -- i feel cursed. any answers you have would be great. thank you.

You need to edit your Windows registry and convince the installer that the software already exists on your computer. This is simpler than it sounds. Here are four links, each one will explain step-by-step how to get one of these programs up and running.

If the phone is turned off, doesn't have an internet connection, or has been restored preventing "Find my iPhone" from being able to work, there is no other way to track it.

I have a macbook pro 2011 13" that came with OS Lion (integrated not on a disk). I recently bought OS Mountain Lion of the app store and it is working fine. However I was a bit dissapointed in the battery so I decided to try and downgrade and completely failed, I froze the computer and when I restarted it it did not work. I went into recovery system and erased my disk and all that and went to re-download my OS. I was expecting to get the option to re-download Lion but instead I could only re-download Mountain Lion.
My question is since my computer originally came with Lion can I reset my computer so I get OS Lion back instead of OS Mountain Lion?

Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Erase the hard drive:
1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

Many of us in this community are your age and older. Age has nothing to do with it, but your lack of experience with tech devices has more bearing on this than your age. However, having said that, the iPad is very easy to use. You don't need a computer at all any more in order to use an iPad.
If you do want to use your laptop with your iPad, you must be running the latest version of iTunes and these are the specific requirements.
