C3 lost phone memory and features

I was deleting messages from my inbox when my phone just hung for a few seconds then shut down. When i turned it on, my settings reset. All my contacts, messages, stuff from my gallery were all gone. There's no "inbox" in my messaging. No ovi. In my internet menu there's just home, browser and web services. EVERYTHING from my phone memory were gone and some of the phone's features too. Please help.

I had this problem with my old C3.
Basically I turned the phone off because I was at work, when I turned it back on all my settings had been deleted along with the gallery and contacts. All I could do with the phone as make calls and send text messages. The browser had been deleted too.
I was with Vodafone UK (spits on the floor) who took my phone and re flashed it. About 3 weeks later the same thing happened again, everything gone again!
In a nutshell Vodafone refused to replace the phone (even though it was less than 3 months old even though by law if the product is faulty within the first 6 months of ownership it will be taken that the product was faulty at the point of sale). I threatened to take them to court and reported the matter to trading standards. I ended up being given my N8 as compensation.
I ended up taking both my N8 and C3 to a Nokia care point (as the N8 went faulty shortly after I received it and I had to have the motherboard replaced under warranty). I explained about my C3 and as it was under warranty they reflashed and reinstalled everything on the phone. That was about 10 months ago. My wife now has the phone and uses it on another network. It's been fine and we've had no further problems since.
My advice is to take it to a Nokia Care Point if it is still under warranty.
It was fixed within the hour and we've had no problems since.
Vodafone were useless and I even got accused by one of their staff of downloading 'material' on the phone and was told that that's why it went wrong the second time (even though they had not even looked at the phone and I hadn't downloaded any 'material'). Completely unprofessional, hence I am no longer with them (still have the N8 though...)
If the OP is with Vodafone then I would suspect that maybe there is something within the Vodafone pre-installed detritus that is causing this issue...Another reason to take it to a Nokia Care Point.
Hope you both get it sorted out.

  • Problem actually viewing files in phone memory and...

When I browse the phone memory and the memory card using the file manager a lot of the files show empty but I know there are things in them.  I also copied the memory card to my computer and looked and have the same problem...even after selecting to view hidden files as well.  The folders just show empty.
Also...my contacts are set to be saved in phone memory...yet I cannot find a "contacts" folder anywhere in phone memory.  The memory card has a "contacts" folder but it appears empty when viewing it.
    Any ideas?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

The Nokia File Manager gives access to just a fraction of the phone memory, and several directories on both the phone and the memory card are write-protected and also typically read- and view-protected.  (The workaround for the card is to put the phone in Mass Storage mode, or to use an external card reader.)  But in my experience, there really are lots of empty directories!  I figure it's a side effect of Symbian's 10+ year history.  If you really want to see what's on your phone, install a third party file browser like Y-Browser (http://www.drjukka.com/YBrowser.html , scroll down to the bottom) or X-Plore (http://www.lonelycatgames.com/?app=download ).  Even better, install Mobile Guard (http://www.netqin.com/en/guard/symbian/ ) for read access to protected directories like C:\Private and C:\Sys.  (Mobile Guard is a suite of programs, some of which may run automatically like a download manager...so don't be alarmed by the pop-ups.  You can turn most of them off.)
Your contacts are stored somewhere in C:\Private, as well as email, SMS messages, etc.  That's why you can't find them.  This is the nature of Symbian's "System Security" feature.  Hope that helps!

  • Recovering Lost Phone Memory

Hi, how do you recover LOST PHONE MEMORY from downloading apps that are package file invalid? Clearing Google Play Services, Play Store and Services Framework didn't help. It seemed that cache cleaners helped but after revisiting the settings, it only doubled up the lost phone memory.
Is there any other way aside from resetting the phone? Resetting the phone is VERY MUCH INCONVENIENT. It's like having an empty phone. You have to start all over again.
    Thanks.

What is a cache empty app? Is this what they called cache cleaner? I downloaded one. I thought it helped. It cleaned the residual files, etc. But  when I check the settings, I was surprised. My phone memory got lower, lower than the memory I had before I downloaded the cache cleaner. I cleaned it again but still the same. I installed another cache cleaner but it did the same until the available memory became 50mb which made my phone so laggy. The supposedly cleaned memory was lost.

  • Are my iCloud photos stored? I lost phone abroad and want to access the photos and save them to my iPad.

are my iCloud photos stored? I lost phone abroad and want to access the photos and save them to my iPad.

Photo stream photos remain in iCloud for 30 days, and can be accessed by enabling my photo stream on another iOS device or computer.  Shared streams remain in iCloud indefinitely, and can be accessed by enabling Photo Sharing on an iOS device or computer.  Your camera roll photos are included in your device backup.  Restoring the backup to another iPhone or iPod touch should recover them (unfortunately, you can recover them by restoring an iPhone backup to your iPad).  If the backup is an iCloud backup be aware that Apple will delete it after 180 days of inactivity so you'll want to restore the backup prior to that.

  • Transfering messages between phone memory and memo...

How do i transfer messages from the phone memory to the memory card? When i first changed the option to use the memory card to store messages, the option to transfer the messages were there.
But the next time i changed the option to use phone memory and back to memory card again, the option wasn't there.
    Messaging>Options>Settings>Other>Memory in Use
How can I make that option re appear so I can transfer messages again?

To make the option appear again you will have to format your memory memory card. - When it's nothing on the memorycard, the phone will rebuild the message folders/files to the card, when it's already done you will not get that option anymore.
What you could do is to connect to PC suite and go inside communicator centre and export all messages from c memory to your pc -> change memory in use to memorycard and then reconnect to pc suite -> import the file with all saved messages, and you have now copyed all messages from C to E (you can do vice versa too). - Now you have to change back to C memory and delete those messages there.

    Hi Kaushalbca
Welcome to BlackBerry Support Community Forums
By " BlackBerry Protected Data " do you mean BlackBerry ID password which we use for BlackBerry Protect ? If so , you can reset your password by following this KB Article :
KB26361  :How to change or reset a BlackBerry ID password.
After reset , you can use BlackBerry protect to restore your deleted data ( If you have a backup of those deleted data ) , You can also restore your data if you ever did a backup using Desktop Software . To restore data refer to those KB Articles :

  • N95 problem with phone memory and backup.

My phone is saying that I have 1870 MB of messages on the phone memory (which can't be true), and it is refusing to back up on the memory card, which I guess is because of this problem as it thinks there's not enough space on the card.
Anyone know what could cause this problem?
    Thanks for your help.
    T-mobile please give us v.20 N95 software.

Hmm, well I'm stumped. If it's within warranty perhaps contact the supplier and accept they'll probably lose your data. I can't be any more helpful I'm afraid, especially as I'm a user and not an actual Nokia technician.
All I can suggest given the extra info you've provided, is to buy a card that can hold the imaginery 1870MB's and change the message storage settings? Alternatively look at the phone via PC suite which makes some files and folders visible on the phone memory (called 'C' drive). Prod around there may be, with research you may find the file that collects that info, delete it and the phone 'may' replace it with the corect values?
I'd be interested to know of the real solution.

  • N97: Transfer Messages Between Phone Memory and Ma...

Is there any way to do this? Whenever I have my phone connected to the PC, and a message comes in, they are stored in my phone memory. I want to transfer all my messages into the same location.
    can't wait for n97 successor

    found a solution:
This will easily move ALL messages from Phone Memory ( C: ) to Mass Memory ( E: ), the time it takes depends on the number of messages you are moving. Also keep in mind YOU SHOULD HAVE NO MESSAGES IN THE MASS MEMORY. OR DON'T WANT THE MESSAGES ON THE MASS MEMORY ANY MORE.
    Steps as follow:
    - Connect your N97 to your computer using USB cable on "Date Storage" Mode
    - Show the hidden and system files ( in Windows 7: Computer -> Organize -> Folder and Search options -> view -> SELECT Show hidden folders, files and drivers, AND unckeck "Hide protected system files (Recommended)"
    - Go to your mass memory on PC and navigate to "Private" folder (E:\Privarte)
    - You will see perhaps many folders with numbers and letters as names
    - Search for a folder called "Mail2" inside one of these folders ( I found it in a folder called "1000484b\Mail2")
    - Delete this folder (YOU ARE NOW REMOVING ALL MESSAGES ON MASS MEMORY, DON'T DO THIS IF YOU HAVE MESSAGES YOU DON'T WANT TO LOSE)
    - Disconnect your phone from USB and now go to messages -> Options -> Settings -> Other -> Memory in use -> choose Mass memory
    - It will surely give an option for copying your messages and keeping the original ones.
Then you are done ! engoy your free momory.
remember to selected "no" to keeping the originals, OR you could select and them delete them aftewards.

  • Lost phone numbers and whatsapp (nokia206)

    Hello,
    This is my problem:
I saved my contacts to my sim-card. I lost my simcard and now the numbers are gone of course.
BUT, since i use whatsapp, I can still message the people of which I don't have the numbers anymore but with who i chatted in the past. So Whatsapp MUST know my lost numbers, otherwise it isn't able to send messages.
My question: how to I retrieve my lust numbers through whatsapp?
    Thanks in advance for answers!
    Greetings

Whatsapp won't be knowing your numbers.
Now in Whatsapp, the contacts with whom you had a chat will not be having names but numbers.
You might want to try options - save contact.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to delete other files in phone memory

i had a problem that other files in my phone are rapidly increasing in size they have increased from 60 mb to 103 mb in two days and now my phone take so many time to process any application that i open.
Please help me i want to set memory card as default memory for all application as i had saved maps, messages in memory card.
I think that internet browsing has eaten my phone memory, i had also deleted all my privacy data from internet but nothing helped me.
Please help me guys how do i delete or move these other files.

It is very strange that you lost ~43 MB of phone memory in two days!  If you think the web browser cache is still to blame, you can try deleting it manually using a third-party file browser like Y-Browser (http://www.drjukka.com/YBrowser.html , then scroll to the bottom) or X-Plore (http://www.lonelycatgames.com/?app=download).  Delete the entire contents of C:\System\Cache , but not the Cache folder itself.  Reboot and see if that makes a difference.
If that doesn't fix the problem, some people have blamed Bluetooth file transfers on lost phone memory.  Maybe you have done this lately?  Otherwise see this thread for advice: /t5/Eseries-and-Communicators/E72-RM-530-Phone-memory-full-for-no-apparent-reason-any-solution/m-p/1... .  (Beware that I rambled too much. )  Your best friend may be NetQin's Mobile Guard program.  Its File Manager feature includes an "Analyse Storage" option that will look for the largest files on any drive.  Post a followup if you need more advice.

  • PLEASE HELP! N95 phone memory problem

    Hi
I have a N95 8GB which is now about 2 years old.  The phone itself works fine, well, that was until yesterday morning.
It hasnt been recently dropped, there is no logical reason i can see, but the phone has lost its mind.
It's been telling me since yesterday morning that there is no phone memory left.  So I completely wiped all my music, videos, pictures, messages etc.  To no avail, it's still telling me there is no phone memory.
I went to delete a contact, which are actually saved on my sim card, and it told me there wasnt enough memory to do this.
I've restored factory settings, no joy.
It also keeps popping up with "carousel already in use".
I can't now receive txts either because it tells me not enough memory to read.
Am I going to have to get a new phone on my inusrance, or is this a problem I can sort with your help?
    thanks in advance

Go to Menu>Tools>File Manager>Options>Memory details, this will give you a run-down of how much phone memory is free and how much is used, then a breakdown of where the memory is being used. Your phone memory is about 140Mb in total (don't confuse this with the 8Gb - that's just "Mass memory" for storage of data like music, video and pictures plus it is possible to install some apps in there. The phone memory is used for processing as well as sotrage, which is why you get these errors if too much is used.
In the breakdown, you'll see the following items:
    - Calendar: this should only be a few Kb, perhaps a few hundred Kb if you use the feature often, but not too much
    - Contacts: should also be measured in Kb, even if many of your contacts have images
    - Messages: should be measured in Kb, if it goes into Mb or worse still Gb then you have Bluetooth of MMS messages hogging space - save the attachments to mass memory and delete the messages.
    - Images, videos and soundclips should not be large - perhaps a small number of ringtones, images that you use as backgrounds etc. but the bulk of these media files are best moved to mass memory.
    - Documents should be tiny, keep documents in mass memory.
    - MIDP (Java) apps and SIS (Symbian) apps could be filling space, you might be able uninstall some of these and reinstall them to mass memory if needs be, but be aware that some apps must be in phone memory and that some of the space taken by SIS apps will be preinstalled stuff that you can't move.
If none of the above can explain the memory full erros and you do seem to have a large amount of Mb free, then it could be a software issue that can be solved by reformatting the phone with the code *#7370# - make sure that you use PC Suite Content Copier to backup important data first, and after the reformat when you restore the backed-up data, don't include settings in the restoration and also leave out any data types that you know you don' use.

  • Software for copying phone memory to computer

I have a 2-year-old pearl 8100. I need to copy my address book to my computer. I lost the software that came with the phone. Which software do I need? When I go to the Blackberry website it asks me which software version I need and I have absolutely no idea. All I need to do is make a copy of what's on my phone memory and save it on my computer. Exactly which software do I need. thanks

    Desktop Manager 5.0.0 B28 English
once installed if you do a backup, this will make a complete backup of your databases. However only readable if restored back to a BB.
if you want to copy your address book to a a viewable source you will need to use syncronize and sync it with outlook, or outlook express.

  • Reading files from phone memory

    Hi All,
I am developing a Universal application using vs 2013 in windows phone 8.1. I am stuck in finding and reading file from phone memory.
I have used the Localfolder syntax
StorageFolder folder = Windows.Storage.ApplicationData.Current.LocalFolder;but it didn't worked. Its Showing the application data. But i want to read the file exixts in my phone memory. Then i have usedStorageFolder file = KnownFolders.DocumentsLibrary;but as i read from the forums its not suggested way to approach. Please suggest me the way to find the file from phone memory and to read it.Any help would be appreciatable!!

    Hi sarika,
That is expected, see the documentation for more information:
App capability declarations at Documents section, you need declared at least a file type association.
Furthermore You can't use the Documents library in a Windows Phone Store app.
You can't publish a Windows Phone Store app that specifies the documentsLibrary capability to the Windows Phone Store. The Store blocks the publishing of the app.
Your app can't access the Documents library in the phone's internal storage. If another app creates a Documents folder on the optional SD card, however, your app can see that folder.
