C7-00 Astound Garbled Calls / Poor, Unintelligible...

I have a persistent problem with my C7-00:
Occasionally the phone will start garbling phone calls, whether I dial them or receive them. The only way to place a usable phone call is to pull the battery and restart the phone, which does not always work. The phone has plenty of main and secondary memory available, plenty of power, good reception, few to no running applications. It's not speaker distortion because it happens whether I'm on the internal speaker, speaker-phone, headphones, or bluetooth. This was a problem before Anna, and now that I've upgraded.
When I get such a call, it sounds like the other person is talking underwater (or is in the Star Wars barroom scene!). It does not good to hang-up and try again, and it's definitely my phone (not the person calling or who called me).
It almost sounds like the audio digital signal processing program gets bollixed-up; you can tell that someone is trying to say something, and they can tell I'm trying to say something, but it's so garbled that might be able to tell who is talking, but not what they are trying to say.
Is anyone else having this issue? I've tried searching for solutions, but my "reasonable" search criteria have not turned-up anything (which is why I'm starting a new thread). Does anyone have a better work-around that the "Thermonuclear Reset" I mentioned above?

Hi Bblatchley,
Welcome to our Nokia forums!
If this is something that has most definiteily occured after the Anna update, then make a back up of your phone with Nokia Suite and hard reset the device with *#7370#. The default security code is 12345.
Once rebooted, connect your phone to Nokia Suite and reinstall the current software via the green arrow icon. Now restore the back up onto your phone and make a phone call to see if the issue's still there.
If it is, visit a local care centre where they can check it out as this definitely shouldn't be happening. You can find your nearest local care centre here.
Hope this helps!

  • Stratosphere garbled calls, need to reboot

I have a Samsung Stratopshere, almost daily I am needing to reboot my phone. I will be on a call, all the sudden the caller will hear crackling and screeching. If I call them back they instantly hear the screeching/crackling. In order to resolve this I have to reboot, this has been going on for quite some time now...getting quite frustrating!

Besides the multiple resets, have you tried a restore? That is the next step in the user troubleshooting. If you have done a restore, did you do both from backup and as a new phone?
If you have done all of these, plus what you have done with AT&T, the next step is Apple. If you do not want to travel to the Apple Store, you can call AppleCare and ship the phone to Apple, however you would be without a phone until it is returned. At least if you go to the Apple store, you walk out with a phone, either the one you came in with, or a replacement. You can make your appointment on line at http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar That way you walk in and are taken care of when you appointment comes. If you go without an appointment, you have to wait for the first available opening.

  • Dropped or Garbled calls while driving (with headset of course)

    I'm in Middlesex MA.
I'm used to being able to drive to work with headset the whole way from worcester to boston on my former sprint pda phone.
I can no longer do this with the iPhone?
    Any ideas?
What's weird is I can be sitting in traffic on the pike and not moving and it will show 5 bars. I connect it drops to 0 and cannot connect (fast busy). I hit try again it fails. I hit try again and then it works.
    Thanks

No, as that would require an App to interact and control parts of the basic OS which Apple do not permit.
I did read somewhere, although I have not looked for it, about an App which prevents the phone from being accessible if its moving above a certain speed, like walking pace.

No idea if its available yet though.
A very laudable and sensible approach you're taking there to ensure the safety of your kids - well done !

  • Bluetooth sound transmission horribly garbled

New MacBook Pro 15". New Samsung WEP-500 Bluetooth headset. Setup proceeds normally. Audio reception through the headset works fine. Audio transmission is horribly garbled. Totally unintelligible at the receiving end (using Skype).
Everything works fine when the headset is paired with a recent iMac. Both have 10.5.3.

Somewhere along the way, perhaps after a restart or two, the problem seems to have fixed itself. Go figure.

  • Orig iPhone call drops & very low signal w/ latest update since 3GS release

For those who have the original iPhone...have any of you been experiencing A LOT of dropped calls and also VERY LOW signal, like 1 & 2 bars? Not just in certain areas either but EVERYWHERE.
After the 3GS release an update of iPhone software was released some time later for the older phones. After I updated my original iPhone to the latest software release through iTunes after the 3GS release my original iPhone now has very poor signal and a lot of dropped calls. I've visited several AT&T stores for resolution. There insufficient answer, perform a network reset. I do this several times a day and it has no positive effect. I still drop calls, some calls don't connect and extremely poor signal.
I also noticed that the internet is working slower, both using the Edge network and the wireless in my own home.
Moreover, I've been researching the internet and finding a lot of other people experiencing the same issues. Mostly becuase the new 3G & 3GS are media hogs eating up the resources & capacity of AT&Ts network capabilities. I've even found that there are 2 class action lawsuits against Apple & AT&T about the poor network operation, tethering limitation and Apple not allowing Google to post an app on iTunes store.
I think the orginal iPhone updated to the latest software release from iTunes that is meant for 3G & 3GS is causing the poor performance to the original iPhone. I know dropped calls & poor signal is AT&T's responsibility but I feel that Apple has an obligation to it's customers to make sure all models, including the original iPhone, are up to par or above average performance when releasing new software, firmware & hardware. I think at this time Apple & AT&T have not completely verified and validated that the original iPhone still performs well with the 3G & 3GS updates.
If Apple or AT&T or both don't remedy my phone network issues to prevent dropped calls and improve the very poor signal then I will be selling the iPhone and switching to a Blackberry with Verizon service. I had Verizon before and ONLY dropped calls in 2 deadspots. I could bet my life I would drop a call driving through that zone, but so does T-Mobile & AT&T. Other than that, Verizon is without a doubt the best cellular service I have had.
Get with the program Apple & AT&T, make your customers happy and fix the network issues so original iPhone users won't leave AT&T to other services. Note, I was thinking of spending $300 and upgrading to the new 3GS but now I'm thinking of spending less and switching to a Blackberry with a more reliable cellular service, Verizon.
So, is Apple & AT&T going to lose another valuable customer?
    P.S.
Yes, I paid $600 for my 8GB original iPhone. Loved it til now. Geez, I'm ashamed to say Apply may have finally made a bad product that does not stand the test of time.
    Best Regards,

  • Working Line Takeover - cancelled by previous tena...

I moved into a rental property last week.  The following is the story of how the move went as far as my BT phone and internet services go:
    5 September 11:02
I called BT to arrange home move for 26 September
I was told there was an active BT line there and they would contact the current account holder to arrange the closure of the existing account.
I was told that the line takeover would occur whether they were able to contact the current account holder or not.  They would force the takeover if they had to.
I was told I would receive an email detailing my order and also a letter in the post.
I was told to keep my current router and hook it up at the new property when I move in.
    15 September 09:36
I had not received an email or a letter regarding my order.
I called BT to confirm things were still on schedule and was assured that there were no issues and that they didn't know why I hadn't received an email and that the letter may have gone to the new address but not to worry, I would have service on the 26th at my new address.
    26 September
My internet was shut off at my old address but I noticed that I still had a dial tone on my phone.
I connected my equipment at my new home. The phone seemed to be working but the internet was not. I thought nothing of it as it might just not be active yet and I was busy with moving house.
There was no mail from BT addressed to me.  There was a letter addressed to the new occupant trying to sell BT services so it seems likely that BT new there was a move out/in.
    27 September
    Internet still not working.
Incoming calls to my number were not working.
I called my mobile from the home phone at the new address - caller id number was not mine. This suggested the line takeover had not happened.
I tried entering my phone number in the BT website for tracking faults and was told to enter a valid BT phone number.
    29 September 7:31
I called BT to report the issue and was told she would have to call me back after 9.
    Received call back at 9:04
They told me that it looked like my order was complete from their side so they would have to cancel and replace the order.
They indicated that I would be notified within 24-48 hours by the order replacement team.
I explained that this delay was not acceptable as a few weeks out of every year I provide out of hours support for 999 services and need my internet running - this happens to be one of those weeks.  I understand that I am a residential customer and don't have the privileges of a business account but I thought that this information might motivate BT to prioritize my case - she seemed to understand this and told me that they couldn't give me a better window for being contacted but that the fix shouldn't take the full amount of time so I should keep checking my internet service.
    30 September ~13:30
Internet service still not working and the phone line is still active with the previous persons details.
Called BT to check on the status.
I was told that what had happened was that the previous tenants had cancelled the line takeover and that is why my order was cancelled and had to be replaced.
I was given no explanation as to why I wasn't notified of this ahead of my move.
I was then told that it could take up to 5 days for me to hear back and was given no explanation as to how this had changed from 24-48 hours into 5 days. Also, no apology for this.
I was told that the only people who could give me an update were the Order Replacement department and that there was no way I could contact them. I just have to wait for them to contact me. All she could do was add a note to my request.
I tried to persist that there must be a way for someone to escalate this further but she was insistent that nobody in her call centre could actually talk to anyone from Order Replacement.
She indicated that she had added a note to my request and that me calling again would be a waste of time as nobody there could give me any more information.
I was assured I would not be billed for any of the time I am without service. I will be watching my direct debit to ensure this is the case.
I am astounded by the poor customer service and the conflicting information I am receiving.
Why was I not notified that there could be a problem with the line takeover?
Why was there no communication to me about my order being cancelled?
Why am I being given different information from different support people as to how long I can expect this to take? Why can a person who is no longer a resident of a property control the phone line at that property? They don't live here anymore. I do.
Does anybody have any suggestions on how I can reconcile this more quickly?  I've called my estate agent to see if they can contact the previous tenants with regard to canceling their account to hopefully get the ball rolling from that side but I guess I'm not totally sure if the line belongs to the previous tenant or if it belongs to the landlord.  I would think if it belonged to the landlord my estate agent would be aware of this and would have let me know when I questioned them about my concerns about BT getting this done smoothly.
I am from Canada and a phone number is a very portable thing for a renter - it travels with you when you move and you would never leave a phone line active at a previous property.  A landlord would also not leave a phone line active at their rental property in most cases unless they were only letting the property for a very short term.
If any mods see this, please contact me and let me know if you can help.
    Thanks

I contacted the mods on 30 September as requested in this thread.  I received no contact from them.
On 1 October, having not received a followup call from my previous attempts, I called again to try to get an update.  This time I must have chosen a different menu option as I was given the option to not wait in the queue and have an automatic call back when it was my turn.  I agreed to this providing my mobile number.  In about 5-10 minutes I received the call back.
The person who I spoke with had to transfer me to a different department - he didn't say which one.  After waiting on hold for a while I spoke with a man who actually showed concern that I hadn't been called back.  He had me hold while he spoke with his manager.  When he came back on the line he promised me that I would hear from BT on Friday and that this would address my issue.
Friday 3 October came and I did finally get a promised call back, though they indicated it was in response to an email I had sent though I hadn't sent any emails.  I was informed that an order had not previously been re-placed with Open Reach but now one had.  The activation date was set for 14 October but I was assured that once Open Reach accepted the order BT would contact them to get this activation moved up.  I was told I would get a call back "tomorrow" with an update.
6 October came and I had not yet received an update so I called BT again to ask for one only to be told that all of their systems were down in the call centre and I would have to call back in 4 hours.  I insisted that I shouldn't have to keep chasing this so she took my mobile number and told me I would receive a call back later that day.  This did not happen.
7 October I called once again hoping to get an update.  Initially I was told that I would hear from the Offline Team today.  I asked to speak to them now.  The calltaker put me on hold for quite a while and when she came back on she told me that the order had been placed with Open Reach and that it was set for 14 October.  Information I already had.  I asked to speak with her supervisor and after being on hold again for quite some time the call was disconnected.
I am hoping to but not counting on hearing from the Offline Team today.  I leave for Germany for 2 weeks on 12 October and I don't want to leave my family with this unresolved but I seem to be getting little help from BT.
I am also yet to get any explanation as to why I was never told about my order being cancelled, why I never received any confirmation emails, why I can't see an order on my BT account, why when I type my phone number into the Check Service Status tool on the BT Help website it says "Please enter a valid BT phone number. Your number should start with 01 or 02 and contain 10 or 11 digits.".
I am going to try the contact the mods thing again and see if it helps.  I am getting really frustrated with the lack of service.

  • SCORM...anyone?

    Hi all
So this is my 3rd or 4th post about integrating SCORM
compliant Flash with the hopes that someone knows how to get
started with doing this. Because I've found nothing so far.
So if anyone has info, please help out. Any help would be
    appreciated.
    Thanks
    Chris

    ChrisFlynn,
    > I agree with you, some of the info in the PDF seems to
    be
    > outdated or no longer in use, which got me asking
    questions
    > in the first place.
Fair enough. :) I didn't read the whole thing, but my hunch
    is that
SCORM compliancy hasn't changed much since 2002, and the only
    updates
necessary may be for ActionScript/JavaScript communication.
    > The Flash API files say that you need to work with a
    Quiz
    > Template in order to create a SCORM compliant quiz. But
    I
    > have examples here that aren't from quiz templates.
Here, my hunch is that the Quiz Template might be useful,
    but probably
isn't necessary. What's necessary is to adhere to the SCORM
    requirements.
The Quiz Templates are one person's (perhaps a team's) take
    on adhering to
those requirements with ActionScript. Someone else's approach
    is likely to
be written in a different way.
    > And I don't think I want to use a quiz template for my
    quizzes.
I don't care for them, myself.
    > And the ADL site has little to no info on Flash
    integration, never
    > mind that most of their links are broken on their site
    anyway.
Heh, that doesn't surprise me. But wow, that's
    disappointing. I've
done a fair share of government work, and it often astounds
    me how poorly
    organized/maintained public data are.
    > And the files I have aren't commented, are impossible to
    follow
    > and we can't get a hold of the original developer.
    >
    > So everywhere I've looked has been a dead end.
Again, I haven't done SCORM compliance myself, but if it's
    anything like
other govt. compliance scenarios, it's presumably a matter of
    a) getting the
specs and b) adhering to them. Of those, choice A might just
    be the more
difficult one, believe it or not. Have you given ADL a call?
    That might be
the surest bet to getting some official documentation. As for
    choice B,
once the requirements are set, in theory, an ActionScript
    programmer with
experience in external JavaScript calls is all you need.

  • After ios 8 update ipad began to crash

after ios 8 update apps been crashing and ipad began rebooting by it self it use to do it when first updated to ios 7 until the bug fix update was sent out what to do

Similar problem too with iPad 2. After updating it just continues to search and won't connect to 3G (verizon). I spent 5 hours at the local apple store and they couldn't solve the problem. There was another person there too with the exact same problem with an iPad 2 and they couldn't fix it either.
After all of this time they had no solution except to buy a new iPad ....... unbelievable. The issue is not a coincidence and it is obviously due to the software update. Apple's arrogance to openly address and fix the issue is astounding. Very poor customer service for a company that is supposed to be so progressive.

    Hi
    After iOS 8.0 update my iPad (iPad2 Wi-Fi + 3G 32GBModel A1396 MC983KS/A) looses 3G connection.
When I restart iPad it has good 3G connection. After few hours, when I have closed my cover and check IPad again 3G/2G connection has lost.
Connection won't come back. Only when I restart IPad I get connection back.
Is this a bug in the update?
    When it will be corrected?

  • I recently updated two of my phones to Note 3's and now I have the worst coverage for phone service I have ever had.

I have been a customer for your coverage for quite a while.   Since the upgrade to the Notes for my Wife and I we have continuous dropped calls in our home.   We never experienced this before with any of our previous phones.   I got rid of all my house phones because I had such dependable service but not any more.   What gives with this model phone?   We are about ready to leave Verizon.  We need a dependable phones.   All I get when I call Verizon is that they want to go through all this ** which I did and then they want to replace the phone.    I might think that would be a problem except that both my wife and my phone are doing the same thing.    Looking at coverage it says I am in the best zone so what can I do?

Unfortunately from my experience not much can be done from our end a clearly big red doesn't support the device.  This was a direct quote from a service rep.  I was told I am in an area of marginal coverage although I have been a customer for more than 10 years in the same area.  I didn't have an issue until the 4.4.2 update.  I have replaced sim cards received replacement devices and sent the phone I'm to Samsung for service.  None of the above have solved the issue.  So we either deal with the issue or upgrade the phone.  Big red has been no help at all and it does make you want to change providers.  As I was to Verizon just sells the phones and cannot help end user experience very frustrating.  I have been dealing with dropped call, missed calls, poor signal, and missed text messages for months.

  • HTML+CSS conversion issue with nth-child() selector

Why doesn't Adobe Acrobat XI Pro convert the below HTML code correctly when I try to create a PDF from it?
I've simplified the actual code significanly in order to present the problem in its simplest possible form. The code below uses the CSS "counter" feature to modify <li> elements according to a specific pattern. This code enumerates and indents every third line in the progression 1,4,7,10,13, ...
In Firefox and Internet Explorer, this code is displayed correctly, but Acrobat XI Pro ignores the lines with the "nth-child(3n+1)" selector which contain directives to hide line enumeration on non-matching lines and to indent text on matching lines. Acrobat XI Pro instead displays line enumeration for all lines and doesn't indent text on any line, as if the two directives containing the "nth-child(3n+1)" selector were not present at all.
Is this a bug or is it an unsupported feature in Adobe Acrobat XI Pro?
Whichever the case, any suggestions on a not too labourious alternative method to achieve the same result?
As things are, I've been forced to resort to using the so called "poor man's nth-child selector" workaround (abouthalf.com/development/poor-mans-nth-child-selector-for-ie-7-and-8/), which requires manual specification of each line's content with ever-increasing code extension/repetition. It gets the job done, but in a very messy and time-consuming way, and it only works with pre-defined static content. In terms of size, the difference is that of less than 1kb CSS file size when using the nth-child() selector vs more than 75kb CSS file size when using the above mentioned workaround, for a 250 line predefined stylesheet.
Surely there has to be a better way to deal with this issue? Support for a core HTML/CSS feature that generates ordered layout patterns for line enumeration, indentation, etc, would seem like a top priority feature to support in a product such as Adobe Acrobat Pro, given its focus on page layout...

  • Exceptions in Indesign

I am working on C++ plugins for Indesign . How to handle Exceptions ? I tired out using Try-catch but no use, try-catch are not catching the Indesign Exceptions. Please , any one give reply to handle exceptions in Indesign.
    Shirish Manda.

InDesign does not throw exceptions, so there is nothing to catch. InDesign uses what I would call "poor mans exceptions" -  breaks inside a "do { ... } while(kFalse);" loop . There is no problem in using exceptions in your own code, eg. the XML Data Update SDK example uses true exceptions.

  • Recover Database More Than Once Before Open

I am moving a database from one server to another. It is too big for an export/import meaning it would take too long. I dont want to setup Datagaurd. Is it possible to do a full restore of the database, recover to some scn, copy over all archivelogs since the full backup, and then recover them? So it would be two recovers?

Just to chime in, probably needlessly but what the heck, we just did a total datacenter move. One of the databases was 2.5T and we moved it exactly this way. I built a series of scripts that we called "poor man's data guard" and moved arch logs continuously via ksh/cron/rsync (nice to use rsync so you can keep the file date/info intact), restored from a copied level 0 on the destination server but didn't open the database, then applied the archive logs repeatedly (with error checking etc) using:
    recover automatic from '${ARCH}' database until time '${pit}' using backup controlfile parallel ${para};
At cutover time, we just stopped the scripts, applied the last few archive logs from the old database, and did an open resetlogs. Downtime could have been less than 30 minutes (but we took the time to do a few other things).
I'm not sure about this, but I believe you should have your database in FORCE LOGGING mode, which is required for data guard as well. This overrides any 'no logging' transactions you might do, so evaluate for impact first. Curious if any of the Oracle experts have more knowledge about whether you have to do this or not when using this method?

  • Why won't my home wifi work after jelly bean update?

My phone updated to jelly bean on tuesday morning, and i noticed i cannot connect to my home wifi.  It will connect at school or work however.  I have tried turning off and on my phone and my router.  I know its not my connection because my other devices all connect to it.  When i go to the wifi on my phone, it detects my home wifi with a full signal, but when i put the password in to connect, it says the signal is poor and it just repeatedly tries to connect.  Is there any way that i can get my wifi to work again?  If i have to and if there is a way i will uninstall jelly bean if thats the only way to get it to work again.

Here is my current situation with a brand new Razr HD:
    -Linksys WRT54GL with updated firmware
-New Razr HD purchased 5 days ago
    -System Version: 9.16.6.X926
    -Android Version 4.1.2
    -Build Number 9.8.1Q-62_VQW_MR-2
My Mom got the same phone at the same time and has dropped calls, poor wifi signal and range, etc.
I have fully set up my phone with apps and all settings perfect, cleared the system cache, one factory reset and input all app usernames and passwords again, etc.
My phone is perfect, except for not connecting to wifi in a room downstairs from the router where all other devices, a Nook, 10-year old DELL laptop, and Droid Incredible get 4 full bars of wifi strength. This Razr does not connect at all and rarely if it does when I leave the door open gets one bar of strength and is useless.
I love the phone so much I am reluctant to swap it out and lose all my app settings and customization. I read that it isn't mattering if you swap it out, still the same problem. But it's bothering me and I want it right so I went to the Verizon store today to test it and swap it out for a new different one. They don't perform tests and didn't know what I was talking about. Very abrasive staff and manager tried to research the issue for a half an hour, then said they had a call in to Motorola. If I wanted to swap it out I could but that would be my one swap and that's it.
I have actually spent so much time and effort on this I wanted to get a MAXX HD for my wasted time and frustration. That is simply out of the question. I stood there with my phone connected to the Verizon wifi network in the store with one bar of wifi strength, while the display connected to the same network showed a full network signal all bars.
They were so abrasive, demanding that it doesn't matter how many wifi bars you get it will still connect to the Internet. I said no that's not true this device will not connect in my bedroom while all other old devices get full wifi strength. They didn't care.
They were so reluctant in the matter that I decided to walk out and watch for an update to Jelly Bean to solve the issue. People are taking their phones back and it doesn't fix this. It seems to be strictly a Jelly Bean update fix.
I will watch my phone, only use wifi in large areas that usually work fine, etc. My question is: When will there be a Jelly Bean update pushed out to Razr HD owners on Jelly Bean so they will have comparable wifi and signal strength to every other wifi enabled device that exists?
    Thanks
PS. I have tried every single router and phone setting mentioned on any forum. Same thing. This requires a 2nd update.

  • Anyone remember the QuickTake 200s?

    Hi there everyone,
For those nostalgia addicts, I just managed to track down and buy a QuickTake 200 camera. Who needs megapixels these days, huh?
How rare are these things? I mean, I know they're serious collectors' items now, but does anyone know how many escaped the factories before Apple pulled the plug?
Also, with these being based on the Fuji DS-7 cameras, anyone know a quick 'n' easy way to hook it up to my Windows machine or PowerBook Pismo? One of my mates has a PowerBook 520 (greyscale) which I'm going to try it with, but my intention is to try and actually put the camera into everyday use (I say every day, but that's only if I can afford the batteries, ha ha). The camera includes the original box, manuals, TV and serial cables (not using the TV cable 'cause it's NTSC), memory card and software, all in good condition (impressive for a camera that's approaching it's 10th birthday). I've been around the net, and it seems you can run a QT200 on Windows with some tweaking and special cables, but I can't track down a clear answer.
I've got a good retro collection going all the way back to the so-called 'poor man's mac' - the Atari STe, and the QuickTake would be a good addition. It would also be one of those things I'd actually use. Who needs all the ultra-modern kit when old stuff works just as well? OK, I want a Mac Pro, among other things...
    Thanks in advance,
    Rob Johnson

    Hi everyone,
Well, I just found out THE best way to use a QuickTake - MemoryTen in the US. They have an eBay store which sells PCMCIA 5v smartmedia memory card readers, which coincidentally work with QuickTake cards. I've bought one, which arrived today (from the US to UK in less than 3 days!) and works faultlessly. Here's their eBay store:
    http://stores.ebay.com/MemoryTen
Click on 'Reader/Writer Card' and choose the 'PNY 5v SmartMedia to PCMCIA Adapter Card Reader.' It's dirt-cheap at only $3.99 (!!), simple and works great with my Pismo. I just downloaded 18 photos in a matter of seconds, and they're smashing quality for the age of the camera. Not only this, but they ship worldwide - FAST. The reader comes in a case - brand new, by the way - and feels like a slab of metal - great build quality.
So, I now have a gerneal-use camera that also happens to be a collectable classic - one of my mates, who lives an Apple life, is probably gonna kidnap me to get his hands on it! So, if you see a randsom note somewhere about me, it's to do with the camera...
So, Ken, if you have a laptop, you might be able to ditch the PowerMac and use your QuickTake on a 'Book instead (or if you have a Windows laptop, of course...)
