CA - 10 year root certificate will be expiring in year

I found the TID on how to move CA to another server. 3618399
About 9 years ago, I manually created our current CA, I believe it was Netware 5.1.
The CA is currently hosted on a Netware 6.5 SP8 server. I believe that I moved the CA from Netware to Netware box several years ago.
It seems that if I follow the 3618399 TID, I should be able to move CA to a Linux box, OES2 or later.
However, second question, and I thought that I read this somewhere.
Is it possible to extend the life of CA with out having to delete and recreate?
Thanks,
Lin

Hi Lin,
No, the lifespan of the eDir CA cannot be modified after creation.
As a note, If you remove and recreate the eDir CA, all certificates that where created will still be functional as long as they have not expired. As the eDir CA is not seen as official trusted source anyway (from a browser's POV) there are usually not to many headaches that stem from recreating the CA.
Besides the Novell server certificates, has the eDir CA been used to sign/create other type certificates?
Cheers,
Willem

  • Update for Root Certificates for Windows 7 [March 2014] (KB931125) Expired

    Hi All
Today i wanted to deploy the security updates of the month march 2014 to my production environment.
I noticed that the update "Update for Root Certificates for Windows 7 [March 2014] (KB931125)" is Expired
Strange last week I added this update in our Acceptation environment with no problems.
Someone knows what happend to this update , i cannot find it on the microsoft site
    regards
    Johan

    Hi Yan Li,
I don't understand what you're trying to say.
Why do you quote that old information from the KB article? It's not really relevant to the update Johan asked about because the December 2012 version of KB931125 is not the same update that was released on March 11, 2014 which then immediately expired.
It's not only the server updates that have been expired this time. It's the Windows 7 update and the Windows XP updates as well. I don't have any other OS versions in my managed environment so I don't know which other OS versions it affects but my guess is
it's expired on all of them.
It would be nice with some real information about why this particular version (March 2014) was recalled.
If there is a problem with it I would like to know what kind of problems I'll be facing on the clients that did install it before it expired.
And if there is a problem with it, will there be an interim fix available? Will a new update be released and if so- when?
Can you please see if you can provide us with some relevant information?

  • The STARTTLS certificate will expire soon. Event ID 12017, 12018

    Hi There,
I have upgraded my Exchange server from 2007 to 2013 in Jul 2014.
in my 2007 structure I used to have an Edge Transport and two Hub servers.
but in 2013 I got rid of all of them and have only one server.
Now I am getting Errors below:
    Event ID 12017
An internal transport certificate will expire soon. Thumbprint:D23A8F92E7F?????699964B098C318EA57E0A824, hours remaining: 2018
    Event ID 12018
The STARTTLS certificate will expire soon: subject: email.mydomain.com, thumbprint: D23A8F92E7F?????699964B098C318EA57E0A824, hours remaining: 2018. Run the New-ExchangeCertificate cmdlet to create a new certificate.
Shall I do anything? or I receive the message because I ran my exchange server 2007 next to my 2013 for a few months.

    Hi Alex,
As what Andy says, your certificate which Thumbprint is D23A8F92E7F?????699964B098C318EA57E0A824 will be expired. We can run Get-ExchangeCertificate | fl to check this certificate.
If it is the certificate which is from GoDaddy, please renew if from GoDaddy to resolve the issue.

  • Update for Root Certificates for Windows 7 [March 2014] (KB931125) - Expired on SCCM 2012 March 2014 SUG

    Hi all,
The "Update for Root Certificates for Windows 7 [March 2014] (KB931125)" is Expired on SCCM 2012 March 2014 SUG. Is this a problem and is there going to be any fix for this which we can expect in the future?

I don't have a 931125 for March 2014; however, I do have a November 2013 for 931125 which is still valid. Per the KB (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931125) the November 2013 is the current and valid versions.
931125 is an unusual update as they simply update it with a new version instead of creating a new KB that supersedes it. Now, why they expired the March 2014 version is unknown but they probably found an issue with it shortly after it was released.
As a rule, you should always ensure that the search you use or criteria in your ADR excludes expired updates.
So, to answer the question, no this isn't an issue.

  • The following Apple Push Notification Service certificate will expire June 10, 2014.

We have a BES10.1.2 server with a UDS server.  We have multiple iOS users that access work emails via Work Space/Work Connect.  I do not find anything in the licensing that indicates anything is due to expire, however, we are receiving emails that the Apple Push Notification Service certificate is due to expire tomorrow.  How do I determine if this is in fact the case?  How do I renew this certificate?

  • Does JCE 1.2.2 make use of a certificate with an expiration date?

Does JCE 1.2.2 make use of a certificate with an expiration
    date?
    If so, what's the date?

The validation code which checked for certificate expiration was only found in JCE 1.2.1. It WAS REMOVED from JCE 1.2.2 and all successive releases like JCE in JDK 1.4.x and 5.x (and soon in 6.x). This expiration problem was the primary reason for releasing JCE 1.2.2 over three years ago. Export control regulations changed following the release of JCE 1.2.1, and Sun released 1.2.2 shortly thereafter so that customers wouldn't have this expiration problem.
This change is documented as the first bullet in the change log for JCE 1.2.2, which is found both in the product distribution itself and on the following JCE product page:
    http://java.sun.com/products/jce/jce122_changes.html
That said, JCE 1.2.2 is indeed signed with a certificate which is valid until October 2006, HOWEVER the JCE 1.2.2 and JCE in JDK 1.4.x/5.x code no longer checks that expiration date. All it cares about is that the code signature is valid.
My understanding is that BOTH JDK 1.3.x and JCE 1.2.2 are slated for End-of-Life on March 30th, 2006, and will no longer be supported by Sun. Both should continue to work after that time, but will no longer be supported.
I hope that helps clear the confusion.

  • My System root certificate is not trusted and I cannot open Preferences with my Administrator password.

My computer was hacked three days ago and malware installed. After consultation with Apple Support I reinstalled the OS and all seemed to be well. Today I tried to set some Preferences but my Admin password wouldn't work. I tried to reset it using my Apple ID, to no avail. Checking in Keychain Access I found that under System, my Certificate contains a message: 'This root certificate is not trusted'.

DO NOT install "Avast." I asked about it as a possible cause of the problem, not as a solution.
    1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
The test works on OS X 10.7 ("Lion") and later. I don't recommend running it on older versions of OS X. It will do no harm, but it won't do much good either.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
    2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
    3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of it have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message. See, for example, this discussion.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
    4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
    5. Try to test under conditions that reproduce the problem, as far as possible. For example, if the computer is sometimes, but not always, slow, run the test during a slowdown.
You may have started up in "safe" mode. If the system is now in safe mode and works well enough in normal mode to run the test, restart as usual. If you can only test in safe mode, do that.
    6. If you have more than one user, and the one affected by the problem is not an administrator, then please run the test twice: once while logged in as the affected user, and once as an administrator. The results may be different. The user that is created automatically on a new computer when you start it for the first time is an administrator. If you can't log in as an administrator, test as the affected user. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this section doesn’t apply. Don't log in as root.
    7. The script is a single long line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. If you try to select the line by dragging across the part you can see, you won't get all of it.
Triple-click anywhere in the line of text below on this page to select it:
    PATH=/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/libexec;clear;cd;p=(1309 ' 0.5 0.25 50 1000 15 5120 1000 25000 6 6 5 1 0 100 ' 51 25600 4 10 25 5120 102400 1000 25 1536 500 40 500 300 85 25 20480 262144     Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
    8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.
    9. If you see an error message in the Terminal window such as "Syntax error" or "Event not found," enter
    exec bash
and press return. Then paste the script again.
    10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
    11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, a series of lines will appear in the Terminal window like this:
    [Process started]
Part 1 of 8 done at … sec
Part 8 of 8 done at … sec
The test results are on the Clipboard.
            Please close this window.
    [Process completed]
The intervals between parts won't be exactly equal, but they give a rough indication of progress. The total number of parts may be different from what's shown here.
Wait for the final message "Process completed" to appear. If you don't see it within about ten minutes, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, press the key combination control-C or command-period to stop it and go to the next step. You'll have incomplete results, but still something.
    12. When the test is complete, or if you stopped it because it was taking too long, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. • Renew root certificate

    Hi all,
My self-signed root cert is expiring. I would like to ask if I renew this certificate at my CA server, will it affect my Exchange 2007 , especially mail flow? If so, how do I renew it without affecting?
I am most likely be renewing it without generating the new key.
    Appreciate for any suggestions

    Hi,
Based on my experience, a new self-signed certificate should be trusted by all clients. Thus, there will be security alert when clients try to use the new certificate. To deploy the certificate for all clients, we can depend on group policy:

Thank you Angela for the reply, I have renewed my Exchange certificate. It is the root certificate that I need to do. If I were to renew the existing root cert, extending the expiry date, will all my clients connecting to the CA be automatically be updated
or I need to create a cert and install every PC connecting on my office lan?
Thanks again for the reply. Please do not stop the other suggestions from coming. I am grateful for all helpful advice I could get.

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
It sounds like your question is of a formal nature -- as in you wish to communicate directly with RIM for your query. Unfortunately, these forums are not a user-to/from-RIM communication vehicle -- rather, they are a user-to-user support forum. As such, it is unlikely that anyone from RIM will see and respond to your question. Hopefully some other user knows how to advise you, but I just wanted to set your expectation correctly about what to expect from these forums.
    Good luck!

  • Where are root certificate located in OS 10.6.8?

I have been using Outlook for my mail, as Mail has dropped several attachments and does not seem to be as reliable.  However, I am receiving error messages informing me that the root certificates for my .me account are not trusted.  I accessed Keychain after downloading certificates from the Apple website, but I was not allowed to drag them into Keychain.  When I attempted to open them, nothing seemed to happen to the list that was there.  Does anyone know how to resolve this "untrusted certificate" issue?

You have probably figured this out by now, but I had trouble with this also.  I figured it out by first quitting Safari, then going to the folder mentioned by Niel (Choose Go to Folder from the Finder's Go menu and provide ~/Library/Safari/ as the path).
Once that folder is opened, leave it open and then enter Time Machine.  It will open up to that folder and then go back to your backup you want to restore from and restore the bookmarks.plst file.
That worked for me anyway and was a huge save after an iCloud mistake!

  • Problem updating CA root certificates in cacerts file

I've searched all over for this problem, and none of the posting seems to apply
to my situation. Hope this is not a repeat post.
I'm running WLS7 SP2 on W2K AS. I had SSL configured and working properly, until
1/7/2004 came along, of course. I followed the directions in http://sunsolve.sun.com/pub-cgi/retrieve.pl?doc=fsalert/57436
to update the Verisign Class2 and 3 root certificates in the cacerts file without
any problem. I also verified from the WL log that the server is reading the "cacerts"
file located in <bea_home>\server\lib. However, when I pulled up my website using
https://, I still get the "...security certificate has expired ..." message.
Why is my browser not getting the updated CA certificates from WLS?
Any help you can provide is much appreciated.
    Michael An

Is the server's identity certificate issued by Verisign? Have you updated it? Does
the identity certificate chain include the root CA certificate? It might be that
the browser contains the expired certs among its trusted ca certificates, uses
them to complete the chain and then complains about it.

  • How to import a Root Certificate Authority for signing

How can I import a Root Certificate Authority in order to use it with Certificate Assistant as a CA to sign other certs?
I have the CA cert imported in keychain along with it's associated private key (from a .p12), it's got the gold icon and is recognized as a Root certificate authority, yet Certificate Assistant will not list it as an available Root CA in the "Set Default CA" action dialog, the "Add..." dialog seems only interested in a ".certAuthorityConfig" plist file.
Do I have to generate a certAuthorityConfig for the CA? I can't seem to find a way to do that. No clues from certtool & security CLI utils even.
Any info/leads on how to get this to work would be much appreciated.
    Regards,
    -david

    Hi Alex,
From ACE perspective, it doesn't make differences if you are using certificates issued by your local or a "well known" CA. Moreover, if not mistaken, you have to configure authentication group whatever you are doing client or server authentication.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/docs/app_ntwk_services/data_center_app_services/ace_appliances/vA4_1_0/configuration/ssl/guide/certkeys.html#wp1043643

  • WindowsUpdate - Root Certificates

We currently receive thousands of events in each workstation's event viewer because we are blocking file downloads for our end users. We would like to add a Policy to allow the following files to be downloaded from Microsoft to ensure the Root Certificate downloads are being allowed:
    www.download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3/static/trustedr/en/authrootseq.txt
    ctldl.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3/static/trustedr/en/disallowedcertstl.cab
    ctldl.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/v3/static/trustedr/en/authrootstl.cab
Without allowing everything to windowsupdate.com; how we would allow the specific files to be downloaded? If I add the domain to our Whitelist then the Regular Expressions field gets bypassed (unless I am misinterpreting something).

    Hi Jake,
You may add those URLs into the Regular Expressions field without having to add the domain into the whitelist.  Just remember the WSA generally looks from the top-to-bottom.  If you add windowsupdate.com to the whitelist AND have a Regular Expression, the whitelist will take effect since it is above the Regular Expression.

  • Go Daddy UCC Certificate: "ExRCA can only validate the certificate chain using the Root Certificate Update functionality from Windows Update"

    Hello,
I have this issue regarding certificate chains while performing Outlook Anywhere connectivity test
    by Microsoft Remote Connectivity Analyzer:
"ExRCA can only validate the certificate chain using the Root Certificate Update functionality from Windows Update. Your certificate may not be trusted on Windows if the "Update Root Certificates" feature isn't enabled."
Note: even if I got the error, Outlook Anywhere and
    ActiveSync services work fine.
    Environment:
    - Exchange 2007 with SP3
    - Go Daddy Multiple Domains UCC certificate (up to 5 Subject Alternative Names)
I already read and followed instructions on this TechNet post
Can I safely ignore this warning about the SSL cert? Using GoDaddy UCC cert but it is a little bit different by this case.
So after an investigation I understand the issue above is related to SSL certificate

Strange I have a feeling the exrca tool can't validate the godaddy class2 root authority due some older compability and wants to use the older original root authority valicert owned godaddy. Or when the exrca tool is validating the root CA it only has the
goaddy class2 root ca that was issued by valicert and not the standalone cert when doing the comparision. I sent the question to MS and will let you know when I hear back.
You can get rid of it
    https://certs.godaddy.com/anonymous/repository.seam
    Download the cert
    ◦gd_cross_intermediate.crt
Then import it into the trusted root cert authority on your CAS boxes. Then you need to delete the other godaddy class2 root authority. Make sure you see the one you imported both will be named goaddy class2 root authority but one will be issued by valicert.
Re-run the test and it will go away, I also saw the error with my domain as well using godaddy and got rid of it by using the new cert authority.
