Cache folder excedes limits

My cache folder is consistently getting over 3 gigs. I have tried completely uninstalling firefox and installing the latest version. One of the problems with this folder being so large is that when a program like Spybot scans it, it takes forever.
What can I do to keep this folder from getting so large?

Here's the thing. I don't want to have to keep emptying my cache, I'd like to keep it at a manageable size. I just lowered Tools > Options > Advanced > Network > Cached Web Content to 250mb. it was set at 1024mb but it consistently exceeds that limit.<br />
These are my config settings<br />
browser.cache.disk.capacity;262144<br />
browser.cache.disk.enable;true<br />
browser.cache.disk.max_entry_size;51200<br />
browser.cache.disk.smart_size.enabled;false<br />
browser.cache.disk.smart_size.first_run;false<br />
browser.cache.disk.smart_size.use_old_max;false<br />
browser.cache.disk.smart_size_cached_value;358400<br />
browser.cache.disk_cache_ssl;true<br />
browser.cache.memory.enable;true<br />
browser.cache.memory.max_entry_size;5120<br />
browser.cache.offline.capacity;512000<br />
browser.cache.offline.enable;true<br />
These are default settings, will modifying these solve my problem?<br />
or is something else going on?

If the files are already there, they'll never be overwritten when you visit a
new site, would they ? That's how the cache works :-)

I tried to do the instructions Adobe gave me but when
I put in the disc that came with my mac and hold down
C when it restarts it takes me to the screen to do a
    fresh install.
At that point go to the Menu & select Disk Utility - I can't remember exactly which menu but you should be able to find it easily... there isn't too much there
I went into the disk utility through the Apps folder
and for somereason the option to repair isnt
highlighted and it wont let me click it. I tried to
repair permissions/verify but it doesnt change
anything. I looked at the info and it says the volume
can be repaired, but it wont let me.
You can't Repair the disk the system is currently running the OS from - That's why you have to boot from the Installer disk (or some other start-up disk). Repair Disk addresses directory structure issues - totally separate from what Repair Permissions does.

  • I am having a problem with files in media cache folder related to themes in PrE7.

I have PrE7/PSE7 and like others noticed my media cache folder kept growing.  In particular there were .pek and .cfa files for three files that weren't in any of my projects.  As I dug around I discovered they were Themes, ones that I never used.  As I played more I found that these were the only themes that when previewed did not have any sound.  My fear is that they are corrupt and and that is why the sound files are being created.  Can somebody check theirs and tell me if they should have sound or not?
    Thanks,
    Mike

As far as I know everything is stock from the original load.  I didn't have any luck finding any meaningful references to issues with themes.  It would be nice if somebody could confirm if the themes mentioned above do actually have audio before I try a reload of the software.  If Adobe monitors these forums as I would hope they do, maybe they could chime in with some type of acknowledgement (aware of bug but no fix or patch available...etc.)  But then again, 8 is released...7 is history...:(
    Bill thanks for your help...:)
I'm going to leave the post open over the weekend in hopes I'll get the info I requested then close it.  Thanks again.

  • How can I delete the contents in Cache.Trash folder (not the normal Cache folder)?

Recently, I keep receiving notice of "Hard Disk is Full - You have run out of disk space on drive C. To free space on this drive by deleting old or unnecessary files, click Disk Clean-up". But after I removed a substantial sizes of files to another drive, in a short while, the notice reappear again. I was puzzled and take a check on the files and folders in drive C and realized the problem came from those unknown files in the folder named Cache.Trash (not the normal Cache folder although they are located side by side). Some files sizes are shockingly large ranging from 2GB to 5GB. They have strange and difficult to identify File Name and File Types. When I checked the Properties of those files, they have unknown MS-DOS name, Created, Modified and Accessed dates. When I tried to delete those files directly, a notice of "Error Deleting File: Cannot delete file: File system error (1026)" appeared. Note: There are still many Free Space available in other disk drives. Any idea please?

There is no session crash here. On others start, the Cache.Trash folder and its contents still there. When a ScanDisk program is performed, after some time, a notice appeared, "ScanDisk has restarted 10 times because Windows or another program has been writing to this drive. Quitting some running programs may enable ScanDisk to finish sooner. Do you want to continue receiving this warning?" So I closed any other running application and program and restart the ScanDisk program again. After some time, the notice appeared again. I clicked No to indicate do not want to continue receiving this warning and the program keep repeating running.....how long will the program take?

  • Error Message: Disk Cache folder doesn't exist

I know this has already been asked, but I am aware that I HAVE deleted the disk cache folder by accident, and it is no longer in the recycle bin. Is there anywhere i can go to restore the Disk Cache folder, or redownload it? How does it affect me to work without it? Thanks

Just create a new folder and point to it in the preferences. It's as easy as that.
You could also delete your preferences, re-launch, and everything should be restored.

  • Why I can no longer save videos (*.flv) from my cache folder?

    Well, I don't speak English.
    I'm sorry.
    Cordialmente,
    Elson

it is way more convenient just to get the cached videos (not just from youtube) from the cache folder... no encoding/downloading/converting because the file is already there!
I don't get it why Mozilla decided to hide the .flv files from cache... makes me want to change browser :(

  • Is it possible to change file name policy in the JRE cache folder?

We are getting calls from our clients complaining of slowdowns in loading our Java applet. The reason is a virusscanner. If a virusscanner is in the middle, it can drastically slow down the download process, and therefore cause some high delay before the user can work on the our product as expected.
On this csutomer's side, it may take up to 10 min (the first time it is ran) instead of 1 min. JRE 1.6 is in use.
They dont want to exclude from antivirus scan all files from Sun\Java\Deployment\cache folder.
    Question:
Is it possible to change file name policy in the JRE cache to make it less unique?
    Thanks,

I suggest you solve the real problem - big files.
    There are two scenarios
    1. Initial download
    2. Updates.
The first takes as long as it takes. No way around it.
The second means that you can't use one jar. Otherwise every single update requires downloading the entire application every time. Multiple jars means only the one that changed is downloaded.

  • New Tab Page - thumbnails are not using the files from cache folder, but they want a connection to their origin website.

    Hi there,
each time I visit a website, FireFox saves a thumbnail of all these sites for the "New Tab Page". Those thumbnails are cached in the 'thumbnails' Folder . That's so far ok for me.
    The problem is:
Every time if I use the "New Tab Page" (...after shutdown & reopening the browser and only with 'mousehoover' on any thumbnail) all the thumbnails on that page don't use the cached thumbnails from the local profile folder.
    This means:
Instead of using the cached thumbnail-files all(!) these thumbnails dials to their origin websites without(!) a mouseclick on any of these thumbnails (...see jpg pictures) !
I'm using the "Clear history when Firefox closes" with the following options:
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.cache - true
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.cookies - true
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.downloads - false
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.formdata - true
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.history - false(!)
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.offlineApps - false
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.passwords - true
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.sessions - true
    privacy.clearOnShutdown.siteSettings - false(!)
So, i can't believe that this homedialing of pinned and unpinned thumbnails should be a normal function.
    1. Screenshot: thumbnails in the New Tab Page
    2. Screenshot: the same thumbnails in the Cache Folder "thumbnails" (...also they are there after shutdown of Firefox)
    3. Screenshot: Dialing to the origin websites (...after restart of Firefox)
The Browser Version is Firefox ESR 31.2.0 and in the installation are no Add-ons, which are - for example - prefetching linked websites.
I would like to use the "New Tab Page" without 'homedialing', so the question is:
How can I force the thumbnails to use the cached thumbnail-files ?
    or
How can i disable the 'loading of content from their origin websites' already on mousehoover ?

There is a preload pref available that you could try to disable on the <b>about:config</b> page.
    *browser.newtab.preload = false
You can open the <b>about:config</b> page via the location/address bar.
You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

  • Can't choose cache folder in Bridge CS6 on a different drive/partition

    Hi,
I just installed Photoshop CS6 and noticed a non-critical, but nevertheless annoying problem in Bridge (Platform: Win7 x64):
When I try to relocate the cache folder (Menu: Edit -> Preferences -> Cache -> Location, then pressing the button "Choose"), the path selection dialog that pops up is actually incomplete.
That is, it doesn't show all my drives. In fact, it doesn't show ANY paritions. It just defaults to the usual user home directory (on partition C: ), but won't show (and hence: won't let me select) any other partition. To be more precise: The root folder of the tree shown is the "Desktop" folder in my user home directory - and that's all there is.
Since there is no field were I could enter (type) the path directly, I'm basically stuck with having my cache on C: now. Which isn't the place where I want it. (I have not enough disk space there)
    For comparison:
In Bridge CS5, the same dialog is working as expected: I.e. when I scroll down, I can also see other partitions, and choose a path somewhere on, say, drive F:
BTW: I also noticed this same behaviour with the CS6 beta, but wasn't concerned then, because - well... it was just a beta, and I thought that somehting as obvious as this would be fixed by the time the final version comes out... :-/
Is there any other way to set the cache path?
Should I file a bug report?
Before someone asks: Yes, I deinstalled the beta before installing the final PS CS6, and yes, everything else seems to work as it should.
Thanks in advance for any replies.
    Regards,
    Manuel
P.S.: If needed, I can supply screenshots of the dialog in question.

Thanks for your continuing suggestions, Curt,
The date of the document you included is 2006, so it is way out of date.
    Mmmh, I can only see:
    /Last updated
    2011-06-30/
While that's not brand new (and doesn't explicitely mention CS6), it's
significantly newer than 2006 and it's the exact same page that comes up
when you open Bridge's help window and search for "reset". Other pages like
    http://blogs.adobe.com/jkost/2009/10/resetting_bridges_preferences.html
    and
    http://planetphotoshop.com/resetting-bridges-preferences.html
also concur that it's CTRL-ALT-SHIFT - which is what I used to
    successfully reset the settings.
But let's stop talking about what's the proper way to reset Bridge's
preferences and get back to the actual topic:
In preferences/startup scripts do you have checks for at least Bridge
    and Photoshop?
I just had a look, and every startup script is checked (including the
    ones for Bridge and Photoshop)
    Regards,
    Manuel

  • With Netscape all of the Webcam shots from live feeds were automatically saved in my cache folder and I could simply open my cache send the saved files into AcDsee and convert them into jpgs, It would save as many as I would allow space for. With firefox

I cant retrieve my images from webcams that are cached any more with mozilla. With netscape all of the live webcam images from live cams were automatically saved in my cache folder and all i had to do was open it send the files to acdsee and turn them into jpgs. It would save them untill the Cache ran out of room no matter how many files or sites I had running. Mozilla seems to save what it wants when it wants and often dose not save any that I can retrieve because I believe it is bulking them into Cache 123 or 4 and those i cant open to retrieve the files. Sometimes it saves 100 or so and sometimes 2 or 3 sometimes 10 or more but i don't seem to have any control over what it does or does not save to retrieve no matter how much space i allow for the cache to save.

You have or had an extension installed (Ant.com Toolbar) that has changed the user agent from Firefox/3.6.3 to Firefox/3.0.12.
You can see the Firefox version at the top and the user agent at bottom of the "Help > About" window (Mac: Firefox > About Mozilla Firefox).
You can check the '''general.useragent''' prefs on the '''about:config''' page.
You can open the ''about:config'' page via the location bar, just like you open a website.
    Filter: '''general.useragent'''
If ''general.useragent'' prefs are bold (user set) then you can right-click that pref and choose ''Reset''.

  • Messages Opening Image Cache Folder when Sending Files

Messages / iChat seems to be opening my image cache folder every time I send an image to my contacts the image cache folder opens in Finder and stays open with the copied image. Is there a way to get rid of this? It's really annoying. It started happening after I updated to Mavericks.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
I don't have an answer for this one.
Are you finding those items are zipped before Sending ?
    Where are they from?
I get them zipped when sending a pic dragged from a Browser or from iPhoto but not from the Desktop or a Finder window.

  • After Effects Cache Folder location keeps changing

    Hello -
We have a non-traditional set up for After Effects at our network.  We have five HP Z800s and two HP Z820s that are primarily accessed through Windows Remote Log In.  Each user (we have 25) has a unique user name and password.
The first time the user logs on to After Effects they set up their cache location to a specified folder labeled AE CACHE on one of the computer's drives (not the C Drive which just holds applications.)  This allows us to media manage each machine by just deleting the contents in the Cache folder once a week.
Over the past six to twelve months or so we have noticed that users' cache location change from that D: drive back to their user folder within the C Drive.  This obviously quickly and dangerously fills up the C Drive.  I am using WinDirStat to go through the C Drive finding cache that was moved to the C Drive.
I can't explain it.  I've had editors raise the amount of Cache that can be stored to the drive, deleted the Cache folder and created a new one and tried a different location...yet every once in a while a users cache folder returns to the C Drive.  It's not every user either, some haven't had any issues.
I understand we are in a unique situation with our remote log in, but if anyone has encountered anything like this and found a solution I'd really appreciate hearing about it.  I'm at a loss.
    Thank you.

Chris is right. My library is also stored on NAS. ALWAYS make sure drive is mounted to OS before starting iTunes. I made a shortcut on desktop to open Windows Explorer to the NAS. This ensures drive is mapped and waken up from sleep.

  • Need to re-burn a DVD, but some source files are missing. But Media Cache folder has them all.

hi all. I have PE3 and the issue is this: I needed a DVD of a project I'd completed a year ago, and I didn't have an old copy of the DVD. So I decided to re-burn it. But on opening the project, it seems some of the source files have been misplaced on my computer, so it says 'media offline'.
I figured I'd still be able to burn it though, because the Media Cache folder contained all the required files...
However it starts to burn the DVD and then stops at 49% saying transcoding error.
Q1: can you still burn a DVD if it says 'media offline' but you know all the source files are present in the Media Cache folder?
    Q2: what's the transcoding error?
    thx

The Media Cache folder contains files that are only of use to PE during internal editing and will NOT solve your lost video problem.
Once a Project is completed, that have no outside value.
The contents are CFA and PEK files, which is the Conformed Audio and Waveform Display, respectively (no video here to my knowledge).
And I'm not aware of any way to make them useful (outside of PE).
If you happen to have your Project and source video/audio files intact, and then delete the contents of the Media Cache folder, upon re-opening the Project, PE will regenerate the CFA and PEK files. Again this is only if you have the Project and all the source files (Assets)...
