Caching web content

Hi. I have this servlet which caches frequently used disk data (images, css sheets etc.), and stores it into memory, so that it eliminates disk I/O overhead in order to increase throughput.
Is it worth it ?

Unless your harddisk speed is actually lower than the network speed. It may be worth to cache in memory then. But otherwise there is completely no performance gain. The truth is that the average harddisk is 10 times as fast as 10Mbit network.

Cache Web Content doesn't show how much?

When in the Network tab, the cache web content doesn't show how much content is used, the line is missing. I tried clicking on the clear button but it doesn't work.

Webpages are incomplete: only headlines HTML style, no pictures, etc.
After emptying the cached web content, page load fine. Until 30-50 MB is reached, etc.

Reload the webpage while bypassing the cache using '''one''' of the following steps:
*Hold down the ''Shift'' key and click the ''Reload'' button with a left click.
OR
*Press ''Ctrl'' + ''F5'' or ''Ctrl'' + ''Shift'' + ''R'' (Windows and Linux)
*Press ''Command'' + ''Shift'' + ''R'' (Mac)

The "clear now" button not working on cached web content

I clicked Tools>option>advanced>cached web content, then clicked the "clear now" button>ok, nothing showed as if the button is not working and there was no clear action.

That button to clear the cache is likely broken because the current Firefox 32 release has switched to a new cache service named Cache2.

This change will cause extensions that use the old cache service to stop working and its developer needs to update the extension.
You can check the Add-ons website to see if there is already a version available that is possibly not approved yet.

Cached Web content

Created a document with a frame, the frame points to a web content ( a simple html page on my local server). Now the folio published shows this page fine on iPad, however any change in this html page is not reflected on the iPad. It seems that viewer has some cache that is being used to display the web content? I renamed the page on my server, however the page still shows in folio. I even tried deleting the safari cache as well as re-install the viewer however it seems the cached content is still available and it doesnt' pick the latest content.
Anything I can do to remove the cache and refer to latest web content everytime I open the folio on my iPad ?

Clear cached web content does not always clear to 0kb, only since upgrading to vers.14, and now 15

Cache would always clear to 0kb before, now it does or not depending
on which websites are visited. What has been changed?

Are all tabs closed when you try to clear the cache?<br />
Firefox may be keeping the thumbnails from the about:newtab page that are currently stored in the cache.

DPS web content viewer is caching css...?

I have noticed that when using web content viewer for use of digital publications it seems that it is caching CSS when I use preview function. This makes it very hard to make css changes. One work around I have found is using inline CSS, but ick...seriously yuk.
I am developing my own assests for a few portions and need to be able to write my own HTML5/js without help of a tool like edge animate.
any ideas?

Slow system response due to Safari Web Content CPU usage

I have about 200 Tabs open and a DSL line. Safari Web Content frequently uses near or more than 100% of my CPU time, and the computer runs dead slow.
How can I modify Web Content so that it does not refresh tabs in the background?
Maybe I can at least get a "toggle" to control when it tries to access that huge junk server at "deploy.akamaitechnologies.com" ???
Right now its taking over 30 seconds to respond to clicks, and then the same sort of delay before drawing the new screen.

200 tabs open using DSL ..
Of course it's going to slow your Mac down. Too many open tabs simultaenously on a DSL connection.
You could try empting the Safari cache more often but I doubt that's going to help much with that much content running on 200 tabs. And it won't make any difference regarding servers.

Errors when using Web Content Reporting

has anybody installed Web Content Reporting from the SDN download successful?
We got through the db-update and ran the aggregator component.
But we have two errors:
1.) When restarting the service, we get the following error:

did you find out why there is nothing displayed? I experience the same issue, the lists in the FORM iView are empty.
Is the aggregator not working? I get the following in the log of:

Safari Web Content

I am running the following
Maverick - 10.9.2, with Safari Version 7.0.2 (9537.74.9)
This build of Safari seems to be incredibly slow, not only when it opens but when you open multiple tabs, the iMac stops reponding, unable to use any applications until Safari starts again. Multiple instances of Safari Web Content are running
I have removed all Extensions, and have disabled Plug ins - any suggestions?

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you boot, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a Fusion Drive or a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually login automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, reboot as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

Safari Web Content - Constantly using CPU time even when no tabs

I have a MacBook Pro Retina (2012), with 16GB of RAM. It is running OSX Mavericks (10.9.4). Recently, I have switched from using it with multiple external monitors, to using it on its own. Here, I have noticed unusually raised usage temperatures - even without any applications (other than Safari) running. Looking at Activity Monitor, it seems Safari Web Content (com.apple.WebKit.WebContent) is constantly using one of my CPUs. Whilst it does not affect the speed of the computer much, it does mean that "idle" temperatures are significantly raised, which is a pain when I am using it on the road.
I have done the following, all of which have not succeeded:
Disabled all Safari extensions
Cleared the cache
Closed all tabs
Sampled the process - unsure of what the output of this means, but if you require it, then I can post it here.
I am unsure what else to try. Currently, the only action that resolves the issue is completely quitting Safari - obviously, this isn't something I can really do for normal usage.
Has anybody come across this before? Is there anything more I can do to investigate the issue? Finally, is there a known fix for this problem?

Do you have any of the following installed:
anti-virus/internet security software?
"Cleaning" or "tuning" software?
third-party backup software (not Apple's Time Machine) that came bundled with an external hard drive?
online backup software (Carbonite, OneDrive, GoogleDrive)?
Also please do "About Safari" from your Safari menu so we can verify your version. On July 11, Apple inadvertently posted a Seed release of a Safari version still under development for the next OSX version. People who had updates set to "automatic" got the "not ready for prime time" version. If you have Safari 7.1, you were "gifted" with that little bag of post-processed cattle feed.

Don't cache web based email

How can I keep my content engines from caching web email? I've tried no-cache pattern-list 41 src-ip 10.1.x.x 255.255.255.0 and I've tried no-cache with pattern-list 42 url-regex webmailserver.org
What is the correct way to do what I want?

It seems that when the CE is proxying the connection, the webmail server will somehow respond with bad tcp checksums, not happening when the CE is not in use. It appears to be not difference at all when the CE is working as a proxy or with WCCP.

Reliable update of Web Content in Overlays

Hi,
whenever I'm creating Web Content Overlays in Folios I stumble about the problem, that they wont update on the DPS Servers. So if I change, let's say the CSS of the embedded Web-Content, save the .CSS, the InDesign File and update the Article via FolioBuilder sometimes the content stays the same when I update via Adobe Viewer on iPad.
My workaround now: Create a different HTML file in a different folder and point to that new folder/file from the Web Content Overlay. But this is really ugly and stops me from developing faster.
Any idea?

If you are testing on iOS then this is unfortunately a bug in iOS, not a bug in DPS. The operating system is caching the files even after we update them and feeding the cached content to the web overlay

Firefox not honoring "Offline Web Content And User Data" settings

Firefox always accepts offline web content and user data, I never get any notification regardless of the "tell me when a website asks to store data for offline use" setting (found in Preferences > Advanced > network).
I also completely cleared the about:permissions tab. Regardless of the "All sites > Offline storage" setting, offline storage is always allowed.
Here is a step- by step guide to reproduce my issue.
1. Make sure about:permissions is clear
2. make sure the list at: preferences > Network > "The following websites are ...." is also clear
3. Close the preferences window
4. Go to go to http://appcachefacts.info/demo/ ... No notification regarding offline cache will be shown.
5. Open the preference window, the list at preferences > Network > "The following websites are ...."
Will now be populated with http://appcachefacts.info (1.1MB)
This list entry persists even after closing the browser window and re-opening it.
This happens with complete disregard to the settings described in the first paragraph.

Firefox will store small amounts (less than 50 MB) of data without asking for permission.

You can toggle the offline-apps.allow_by_default pref to false to make Firefox ask.
