Calendar Server 7 - Apple iCal clients problems

Hello,
I can not connect iCal clients with Calendar Server 7. I tried every iteration of the components making up the principal URI as described in the documentation:
Click the server options and type the principal URI, for example:
http://example.com:3080/dav/principals/[email protected]/
In this example, the default URI of / was used during initial configuration.
The general format is:
http://glassfish-host:glassfish-port/base-uri/principles/user-identifier/So my URI would be
https://comms.mydomain.de/caldav/dav/principals/[email protected]
since caldav was the URL I entered during initial configuration of Calendar Server. The client always says that there is no calendar server under this URL. Convergence 2 and Lightning work perfect. I could not find any hint in the log files. How can I start troubleshooting this problem?
Thank you.
Greetings,
Willi

[email protected] is an email address.
https://comms.mydomain.de/caldav/dav/principals/[email protected]//comms.mydomain.de/caldav/dav/principals/[email protected]
It should be:
https://comms.mydomain.de/caldav/dav/principals/[email protected]/
NOTE: you need the "/" at the end and also make sure you use the mail: address of the user and not <uid>@<domain>
You can test the URL in a web-browser. If you enter the correct value you should see the name ("cn") of the user output.

Shane.

  • Sun Java System Calendar Server 6 "cshttpd" crash problem

    I have a Calendar account that crashes the "cshttpd" process every time they
    login to add invites to their Calendar. I've done a ."/csdb -v -f -g rebuild" and that didn't fix the problem, and it doesn't show that there are any database errors. I can
    log into other Calendar accounts with no problem. You can log into this account
    but once the users tries to add the invites it crashes the "cshttpd" process.
    I've patch the Calendar Server 6 with the latest patches so everything is up to date with the latest version.
    Any Solutions?

    When rebuilding the database, can I make sure that you are coping over the rebuilt db back into the production csdb directory?
    Also, is it just the one user that causing the crash, do other users work and use the calendar server fine?
    Have you tried performing the dump and reload procedure mentioned in the admin guide:
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-2433/6n4nlfjum?a=view
    NOTE: You may want to first perform a db_verify on each db as follows:
    ./db_verify -h <path to production db> ics50alarms.db
    ./db_verify -h <path to production db> ics50calprops.db
    ./db_verify -h <path to production db> ics50events.db
    ./db_verify -h <path to production db> ics50gse.db
    ./db_verify -h <path to production db> ics50journals.db
    ./db_verify -h <path to production db> ics50recurring.db
    ./db_verify -h <path to production db> ics50todos.db
    ./db_verify -h <path to production db> -o ics50deletelog.db
    Note: The deletelog db needs to be ran with the -o option. Also you should run the db_* commands as the calendar server runtime user id.

  • Lion iCal client can't read SLS wiki calendar?

    Anyone else running Snow Leopard Server (10.6.8) having issues with the new Lion iCal client (v5.0) not seeing a wiki/group calendar? I've got the server path on the Lion client on a new MacBook Air exactly the same as that of the Snow Leopard client (v4.0.4) on my Mac Pro: /principals/__uids__/wiki-groupname
    The Mac Pro is working fine with this setup, only difference is the client OS/client iCal version.
    iCal server logs don't even show a hit from the Lion client when I refresh the client calendar, while it does show a hit from the Snow Leopard client when I refresh it.

    While the behavior you describe
    (...every so often the Lion iCal client will forget the group wiki path and it seems to revert to the default ("/principals/__uids__/many hex characters"). I then have to go back in and restore the group wiki path...)
    is not ideal, I can't even get it to remember it once. Restart iCal server, restart iCal client, restart MacBook Pro with client...it keeps reverting back to the hex address.
    You mention something about
    ...this was a preferences problem with Lion iCal in the client...
    and
    ...I cleaned all the individual calendar files out of the Library folder...
    Can you be more specific? I tried digging through the library files, looking for ones associated with the URL of the SLS Wiki Calendar, but that did not seem to help.
    Thanks!

  • Why doesn't com.apple.IE.client.exeshut down when Mobile Me finishes sync?

    Since upgrading to iTunes 9.1.0.74 a couple of days ago, the com.apple.IE.client.exe process, which starts during the Calendars phase of a Mobile Me manual sync process, fails to shut down when the sync process is complete. The Calendars phase now runs 5-10 minutes even when there are no Calendar changes. While it runs, com.apple.IE.client.exe runs at 50% of the CPU, and memory usage climbs continuously. It reaches about 2 GB (2,000,000 K in Windows Task Manager!) by the time the sync process completes.
    However, com.apple.IE.client.exe _doesn't end_ even though the sync is complete. Instead, it keeps running at 50% CPU. Somewhere around 2.1 to 2.2 GB of memory usage it reports: "com.apple.IE.client.exe - Application Error. The exception Breakpoint. A breakpoint has been reached. (0x80000003) occurred in the application at location 0x0c90120E."
    This has occurred at the end of four Mobile Me syncs now. Upon selecting OK to end the application, everything else seems fine.
    I see other posts regarding the com.apple.IE.client.exe process in the latest iTunes update, but no clear resolution. I tried Apple Mobile Me chat, and replicated the problem twice while on-line, but their only recommendation (after verifying that my only Outlook COM add-on is the iTunes add-on) was to reinstall iTunes and Mobile Me, and if that didn't work, to create another user and see if the sync problem occurred there. Since that user would have no Outlook data to sync, this suggestion wasn't very helpful.

    As am experiment, I just ran a Mobile Me manual sync, but first I de-selected Bookmarks, and synced just Contacts and Calendars. com.apple.IE.client.exe did NOT start at the beginning of the Calendars sync phase (as it had in the four previous syncs since upgrading to iTunes 9.1.0.79). In fact, it did not start at all, the Calendars sync phase finished quickly and the entire sync process finished in less than a minute.
    The apparent conclusion is that com.apple.IE.client.exe is used to sync IE bookmarks with Mobile Me, it starts (for some unknown reason) at the beginning of the Calendars sync phase if Bookmarks are being synced (not at the beginning of the Bookmarks sync phase), it delays the Calendars sync phase significantly (but not the Bookmarks sync phase), and it has some sort of serious memory leak problem that balloons its memory usage past 2 GB.

  • Problem with entries from the ical client/server

    Hi together,
    I have the problem that my events are not longer visible in the ical-client of my assistant and I also can not see the events from her. Also I can not see this/my entries on the other clients (iphone, ipad).
    When I add an entry to my calendar on mac Book an then I look the the calendar in the wiki (to have a look on the server local) I can not see my calendar-entries there. So they are not written down. But why?
    In the log I find a lot of this entries:

    It worked fine till the begin of last week - I can not remember to change something in this time.

    COH-571 is corrected in the 3.2 pre-release. See:
    http://wiki.tangosol.com/display/COH32UG/Release+Notes
    Sorry for the inconvenience :) .. if you prefer a patch for 3.1 or 3.1.1, it will still be available from support at Tangosol.
    Peace.

  • How do I restore calendars in Lion iCal Server? Where are the files?

    I am ready to pull my hair out.
    I am an Apple Consultant as well.  However, Apple's choice to move to a postgres database without proper management tools is astounding.
    So, Apple makes a dump file every night into /Library/Server/PostgreSQL/Backup.
    Note from the Advaced Admin help doc on apple.com:
    "Calendar event data is stored in a postgres database, with some support files in the file system.
    This is different from Snow Leopard Server, where all calendar data files were stored on the file system. Now only attachments and the proxy database are stored on the file system. All other calendar data is stored in a database.
    When backing up calendar server files, make sure to back up the /Library/Server/Calendar and Contacts/ directory and the postgres databases.
    Database files
    iCal Server uses database files for various purposes. It uses a postgres database to store calendar data. It uses sqlite files to store proxy relationships. To troubleshoot or resolve problems, an administrator needs to use postgres database queries. Teaching postgres database manipulation is beyond the scope of this topic.
    To access the database, you need to use postgres and pg_ctl command-line tools."
    I had a server crash at a client, and after TWO-THREE HOURS on phone with AppleCare Enterprise support, they said it would need an $895 support agreement to restore the calendars.  YET APPLE'S BUILDS IN THE BACKUP, BUT NOT THE RESTORE??
    Yes, Time Machine has been working.
    Anyone else have any bright ideas?

    Thanks for catching that. I didn't notice my signature. No, I'm running 10.8.1 and have everything updated to the very latest versions.
    I'm syncing many calendars to iCloud now, but there are about 10 that are not. They're still listed as "On My Mac" and I need to move them to iCloud.

  • Reasons why iCal Server can't be my company's calendar server

    I want to believe. I don't want to use Exchange. But after testing iCal server and iCal 3 for a few days, I've found it's not going to cut it for us- a 60 person creative agency. Here's why:
    -There's no concept of "blocks time". So, let's say I don't want the office to know that I'm going to a job interview, but I do need to block out the time so nobody tries to schedule me to a meeting. In other systems, I can make a private event, and have it block time. In iCal, locally stored events (which are therefore private), are invisible to the network. I can't have my time reserved without announcing why. Sneaky code phrases are possible, but shouldn't be needed.
    Similarly, I can't define if an "all day" event keeps me busy or not. I'd be inclined to list a week's vacation as an all day event starting on Monday and ending on Friday. But for co-workers to see that I'm gone in scheduling, I have to list it as an event from 8A on Monday to 5P on Friday.
    -There isn't any group support. Perhaps I have a project team of the same 6 people. There's no way to group those 6 under a heading, and check their meeting availability all at once- you can only invite individuals. The Address Panel has 3 of the 4 headings of Directory.app, but no Groups. Every time this project team gets together, I have to add the same people.
    I would think I could make a group in Address Book, but that's not working.
    -Delegation is all or nothing. I can't delegate that co-workers can see one of my public calendars, but not the other.
    -The Availability Panel can't show what events are blocking someone's time. You have to have them turned on in the iCal view to know that.
    Please, please tell me there are just things I don't get about iCal3/iCal server, and if I just did things differently, I'd be OK. Is there something I'm missing, or is this really how it works?
    (This was also submitted to apple.com/feedback, and [email protected])

    Maximilian Reiss wrote:
    Hi - haven`t looked yet at point 1 and 4, but also dislike point 2 and 3. Actually, afaik point 2 (individual delegation) is just a iCal (client) GUI limitation. I think the server would support it.
    Group support regarding the client side is more or less there, just not in the new address panel. If you type the group name in the invitee field while editing an event you get the group.
    I hope you filed bugreports for that at bugreport.apple.com
    OK, here's another one. Window: Address Panel magically changes format for reasons I can't see. When I started this thread, I was in "Open Directory Lookup" mode of Address Panel. When you're here, you're only pulling addresses from OD.
    When I returned to playing with iCal this morning, Address Panel was bringing back Address Book entries. When it's this way, yes, you can have a group defined in Address Book, and use that group as a shortcut to invite multiple people.
    During the process of experimenting, Address Panel somehow reverted to Open Directory lookups. I'm not clear what controls this behavior.
    So, yes, you can use Window: Address Book to pull up AddressBook.app, and drag a group from there into your invitee window. But is there a more integrated way (where leaving iCal isn't required) to invite a local group?

  • ICal Server 10.6 + AD users + iCal Client = Booo

    New 10.6.1 server installation (new dual quad xserve). DNS is dialed in forward and back. Wikis work great. As do web-based calendars for AD users. But whenever I try to use the iCal client to connect to the calendar I get login errors. 10.5 clients say "Your password was rejected..." 10.6 gives a similar error.
    I don't understand why the calendar works via the "MyPage" but not via iCal clients.
    Can someone give me a direction to look?

    I have the same problem, just not with the same setup. Server is 10.5.8, authentication is done via Open Directory. If I enable Kerberos it works, but digest authentication doesn't. In what may be related, I can't sign into the webmail with any users either... same "Incorrect password" message.

  • Ical client setup with 10.6 server

    I have iCal server up and running on my 10.6 server and everything seems to be working right. however I have set the server side up to use ssl and have opened those ports on my firewall which works. My problem is that after setting up a user I send out the welcome email and that has the configure my mac link. Which was done before I change the iCal server settings to use ssl. And now every time I go in and manually set the server settings to use ssl on the client side and quit and reopen ical another account is added without the ssl settings. How do i get it to stop automatically adding an account to iCal?

    This looks like a bug in the iCal client. I, too, have had problems with delegated calendars and end users mistaking events for being missing, not updated or incorrect only because their local copy was not synced with the true copy on the server. The refresh rate on delegated calendars can be changed with the "Refresh calendars: [ Every 1 minute ]" preference. You can verify this by right-clicking or control-clicking on the delegated calendar and choosing "Show CalDAV Queue." This brings up a queue of activity with the iCal Server. You'll note at the top that it mentions "Refresh every 1 minute."
    The problem, of course, is if you quit iCal and recheck the "Show CalDAV Queue" on the delegated calendar, the refresh interval has reverted to some long interval like 300 or 900 minutes. This is a bug, for sure. For now, you can tell your clients not to quit iCal or to refresh manually or reset the refresh interval whenever they restart iCal/their computer, etc.

  • Mavericks 10.9 iCal client not working on server 10.6.8

    On a new client machine with a clean 10.9 Mavericks install it's not possible to create the calendar account on the 10.6.8 server. When adding the account in iCal client I choose 'Add CalDav account', then choose 'Manual' at account type.
    After clicking 'Create' I get 'An unknown error occured'
    I also tried choosing 'Advanced' and entering the full search path, port number, etc. Also doesn't work.
    On a different client, after upgrading from 10.8 to 10.9 Mavericks, the existing calendars on the 10.6.8 server work. I cannot however, add extra server calendars. I then get the same problems as on the clean installed client.
    Hoping for help, hooh

    I can see a difference, but can't think of a workaround.
    Clean Mavericks Server - ML or other client, when connecting the client will ask about the security certificate. Accept the cert and the process completes fine.
    Mavericks client does not generate that certficate question and hence that's where it is hanging up.
    So, if anyone knows how to provoke that cert acceptance, then we have a workaround maybe.

  • Since iOS 8.1.2 upgrade problems with yahoo mail via apple mail client

    Since the upgrade to iOS 8.1.2 on my iPad I'm having issues with my yahoo mail account when using the apple mail client. I can send emails but cannot receive them. When I use the yahoo mail app there is no problem Sending or receiving. I have deleted and reinstalled my yahoo email account from the apple mail client. I have checked the wifi by changing between wifi hotspots. I have also restarted the iPad as well as resetting. None of these actions have resolved the problem. would appreciate any assistance that can be provided.

    Do you use two-step verification for your Yahoo! account? If yes, you need an app-specific password.
    If no, make sure your password is already entered in the "Outgoing Mail Server" in the Settings app.

  • Using Calendar client version 4.6 on Unix to connect to Calendar Server 4.0, I get a core dump and the client does not launch

    I am using Communicator Pro with Enterprise Calendaring, Calendar client 4.6,
    and when I attempt to launch it I immediately get a core dump and it does not
    launch.
    <P>
    The 4.6 motif client is not able to run against the 4.0 Calendar Server.
    It is strongly recommended that you use the 4.61 motif Calendar client (bundled with the 4.7
    Communicator Pro release) or 4.51/4.52 against Calendar Server 4.0. There are
    known problems when going offline while using the 4.5 client on any platform
    against the 4.0 Server. Both the 4.51 Windows and the 4.52 motif clients have
    repaired this problem.

    You can get Firefox 3.6 from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html

  • Why, when MobileMe was shuttered, does Apple NOT support calendar subscriptions for iCal (Calendar)?  I upgraded to Mountain Lion and cannot migrate my Dutch, U.K., Islamic, or Catholic holiday subscriptions.

    Why, when MobileMe was shuttered, does Apple NOT support calendar subscriptions for iCal (Calendar)?
    I upgraded to Mountain Lion and cannot migrate my Dutch, U.K., Islamic, or Catholic holiday subscriptions.  I had a heck of a time getting my Detroit Tigers Baseball team schedules migrated (but Major League Baseball supported the subscriptions, so it occurred).  As I work internationally, having these calendar subscriptions on the new Calendar would be very useful.
    If one goes to the Apple site, and seeks calendars [http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/calendars/index1.html], they are shunted to MobileMe [https://www.icloud.com/mobileme/not_found/], with the note "MobileMe is closed. Go to iCloud."  But, I do not see how to get subscriptions from iCloud.
    Thanks.

    The problem is that many of these calendars were hosted on MobileMe. I actually tried about 20 at random, and only two worked! Not all of the failures were ex-MobileMe, some were on other servers but produced 'File Not Found'.
    Strangely, this one worked despite its URL:
    http://ical.mac.com/ical/UK32Holidays.ics
    Until the people who publish these calendars (it's not Apple, they are third-party) wake up and find alternative servers these calendars are not available.
    There may be other sources which work - try Googling.

    I have the same problem... any forward in Struts after a call to WebLogic 8 session EJB will give me the same AccessControlException in HttpRequestFacade.getHttpRequestBase.
    It seems that after WebLogic EJBs is called, the security policy gets all mixed up. You can fix this by granting in code the correct policy just before the forward... but this is a workaround not a fix (and a potential security hole).
                Policy.setPolicy(
                    new Policy() {
                        public PermissionCollection getPermissions(CodeSource cs) {
                            Permissions perms = new Permissions();
                            perms.add(new AllPermission());
                            return(perms);
                        public void refresh() {
                return actionMapping.findForward("success");
