    Just for update:
The error means that the message server is not able to translate the IP address into the hostname (reverse name lookup). If this fails the Startup Framework cannot connect to the message server and the server does not start. Please check the network setup on this host.

I'm not MSSQL guy, and some feature for the connection are different than other db.
    But...
Did you try to run in DMS boot strap mode :
    change_access_password SYSADM1 new_password;
(replace SYSADM1 by your own symbolicid of the new db).
You could also set a level trace on your client (pscfg) and try to connect to your db through AppDesigner, and report the log here.

  • Server Does not start after backup complition

    Dear All,
We are facing following problem some times after backup completion.
    Our Setup is : SAP ECC 6, Oracle 10g, HP-UX 11.31.
We are scheduling the whole database offline + archive log backup during night.
After completion of backup the SAP does not start. I have checked the following things.
    1. Database is started : OK.
    2. SAP related services at O/S level : OK
    3. Listener is OK
    4. No startup log generated related to SAP
But I am not able to connect to SAP thru SAP GUI.
If I tried to start SAP using startsap it will not respond for long time. Even I have tried to startsap after shutting down database, kill all SAP related services at O/S level. But startsap doesn't respond.
When I restart the server, after that I am able to start SAP.
Is there any memory fragmentation related problem ?
Before some time same thing is happened with our production server, but at that time I have deleted Archivelog files manually before tacking backup. In this case if I take backup "whole database offline + archive log " then server doesn't start. At that time also I have to restart the server. So the Problem is identified.
But in this case i.e on our Quality Server not able to trace out problem.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Nirav

    Hi,
Yes the problem is related to memory. I think during the backup  memory is allocated but not release after completion of database backup.
in case of archive log backup what option your are using means are you using save and delete option  or other.
In the case of the production server archive log backup you to use to the option  save and delete.
Please also check wheather core file getting gernerated should be deleted frquently from work folder.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Vidyadhar K

  • Server IP has changed - server does not start anymore

    HELP
our network hoster has changed all IPs of our network, and now, the server BO does not start anymore on the server it was installed ...  does anyone know where could from the issue ? ..
    thanks ...

Changing IP does not seem to be a problem unless:
    - you've bound ports using fqdn mentioning ip address.
    - you've created cms dns pointing to specific ip address datasource.
Did you see logs in BO logging folder?
You may raise a ticket with support if problem persists.
    Thanks,

The recommended way of starting the application server is to use asadmin command, for ex. <application-server-install-root>/bin/asadmin start-domain. The reason startserv hangs is because it is expecting some input which is automatically provided by the asadmin command.

The issue was with JMS modules. I missed to identify the subdeployments tab for UMSJMSSystemResource where we had two sub deployments as UMSJMSSubDMSOA and UMSJMSSubDMSOA_auto..
I've removed the second subdeployment and all resources listed against is by following this below path in Admin Console
click JMS Modules -> Click UMSJMSSystemResource -> Click the Subdeployments tab.
Ensure that UMSJMSSubDMSOA is the only subdeployment available. Remove others if listed and all dependant resources as applicable to your environment.
Go back to UMSJMSSystemResource and click Targets.
    Deselect BAM_Cluster as target.
    Click Save and Activate.
Upon subsequent restart, the Server came up nice and fine.

  • J2EE server does not start during installation

    Hi,
I am installing WebAS JAVA 640 (NW04 SR1) on a Windows 2003/MSSQL server. I am using JAVA SDK 1.4.2_9. The installation stops at step 24/25 whereby the installer waits for the J2EE engine to start. After making 3 attempts to start the J2EE server, the installation process just hangs and I have to Cancel the installation.
BTW, I am specifying a heap size of 1024 MB and using the "Database Only" option as UME data store during installation.
Having checked the trace and log files, it seems the UME service fails to start, throws an exception and the message "the start of a core service failed, Web AS will not start".
According to the information available  <a href="http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/20/361941edd5ef23e10000000a155106/content.htm">here</a>, I have checked the settings and it seems that option 2, <b>"User or group data is missing"</b> is causing the problem since database content of UME is missing. I have tried selecting entries from table UME_STRINGS but this table is empty.
Now, the same link says that I should login to UME web application as SAP* but the problem is that without the J2EE engine starting up, I cannot login and create missing users/groups.
    Any ideas???

    Shehryar

Thanks to all who replied. I have actually tried all options suggested like waiting for retries until the box appears, trying to manually start the server, and reducing heap size. None worked for me. For your information, I have a 2.4 GHz machine with 4GB RAM so I think heap size should not be an issue. I checked SAP Note regarding heap size issues in Win 2003 but that does not seem to apply in my case since my system does not behave abnormally with JVM settings.
Thanks again and I'll give it another shot.

  • JCo Server does not start

    Hi,
I'm trying to create and start a JCoIDoc.Server on a Web Application Server 700 system. Because I could not find the required classes in the trfc.jar archive on the server I downloaded and packaged the required java connector classes sapidoc.jar and sapidocjco.jar in my EAR file.
The deployment works fine and the server should be started automatically by a servlet. There are no error entries in the logfile. In addition I can see my own entries in the logfile that the servlet was executed an the server started.
Nevertheless I can not send anything from an ECC 5.0 system to my java connector server. Using the "netstat -a" command in a DOS console on the Java server I can not even see that the port for incomming idocs is listening.
Having a look at the ECC 5.0 system using transaction "smgw" I do not see the my JCo Server
Has anybody an idea what goes wrong or if I forgot anything to realize? The code is quite similar to the jco sample code.
Or is it in general not possible to start a JCoIDoc.Server on a Web Application Server 700 system?
    Best regards,
    Markus

you should have no problem doing this....
However -- as you downloaded the Idoc libraries instead of extracting them for the tar...?
    a) make sure they are accessible (on the classpath) They may need to be in the same directory as the JCO...
    b) make sure they are compatible... read up on the download page and in sapnotes which version exactly you need...
Or ask your friendly basis admin where he stashed them and use the ones coming with the installation...
    Enjoy
