Caller group ringtones for 9300i

In most phones now a days you can separate incoming phonecalls by giving separate numbers/callers different ringtones. I was extremely surprised to note that this business-oriented phone doesn't seem to have that possibility. Is there any way to make this manually? I mean when in a meeting and wanting still to hear if say your secretary calls about something important yet don't want to get calls from any one else, how to do this on 9300i is beyond me. If anyone has an idea how to resolve this issue I would very much appreciate it.

Seem to have found the problem. Part of the problem was between the keyboard and the chair.
The technical part of the problem involved the SIM, but not related at all to a SIM-lock issue.
I had some numbers stored on my SIM. Those numbers were recognized first, before any search of the contact database. The SIM numbers don't have the option of personal ringtones.
Another problem was the same phone number was stored in multiple contacts. For example, my home fixed-line/landline number is stored in My Personal Card and my wife's contact card. The handset can't resolve this kind of ambiguity, so it defaults to normal caller-ID and no personal ringtones.
So, the good news is, I am able to use personal ringtones. I think I've figured out why I got no ringing when I was using the groups option. It seems that only those numbers/contacts associated with a group will ring the profile's default ringtone. All other numbers (including those not in the contact list) will not ring at all. At first this didn't make sense. Then I realized I was trying to use groups in the "general" profile. In the "meeting" or "silent" profiles, I can understand why you would want only certain calls to ring and all other to remain quiet.
Thanks for the tips! :-)

  • N97: Can you set a ringtone for all unknown caller...

I just moved to a Nokia N97 from a Palm Treo Pro. So far so good, but one thing I cannot seem to find any information on is whether or not you can set ringtones for all unknown callers, like you can on a palm? This was one of my favorite features for palm phones.
If you cannot set a specific ringtone for all unknown callers on the handset itself, does anyone know of an application I can download that would enable this?
    Thanks for your time!

While you're waiting for that application. You can put everyone in a group and set specific tones for each group then the default ring tone will sound when unknown people call you

  • Personalised ringtone for User Group N73

Hi, Just bought a N73 music edition. I was trying to include my own MP3 ringtone to the caller group. I was not able to find other tones except for Nokia built in tones. Can anyone help me to get my favourite tone to my group.

the second line you put on the secretary's phone is that a shared line?
I would set it up as being just that, and make sure the ring setting is flash only. That shared line (i.e. the GM's extension) should not be part of a pickup group.
try that and see how get on

  • Ringtones for groups

I use my iphone for work and home. I have a lot of work contacts, and a lot of personal contacts. I would like one ringtone for all of my work contacts,is there a way to set a ringtone for the whole group I have set as my work contacts, instead of just going in manually and doing each person individually?

Thanks for the response! As time goes by, it seems more and more "little things" keep being discovered about what the iPhone CAN'T do... Ah well... I'm still getting one anyway.

  • I want to create a distinct (default) ringtone for calls from people not in my address book?

I want to have one default ringtone for calls from people who are not in my address book.  I would also have a distinct ( different) ringtone for those people IN my address book.

  • HT4528 i am new to iphone. i downloaded a song but don't know how to make it my ringtone for incoming calls. can someone help?

I just got an iphone4. I downloaded a song but i don't know how to make it my ringtone for incoming call. Can someone help?

YOu can't use the whole song for a ringtone, you would have to create one 30 second or less.
YOu can download an app to create the ringtone.

  • Can't change ringtone for a specific caller.

What happened is that I was able to do this some days ago, BEFORE I transfered more or less 1000songs to my N95. SO now when I chose to change a ringtone for a specific person I just get 2 options " download ringtone and default ". I can't even see the standard Nokia ringtones.
What bothers me is that it seems that the problem is that I have so many songs on my phone that it can not show a list of all of them, so it choses not to.
I can't even change a ringtone for a Profile by using the profile options, I need to go to the songfile itself and chose " set as ringtone ".
    Anyone else have this problem.
I will have to add that I didn't transfer the songs to the normal " sounds - digital sounds " fodler but a custom one called "mp3", but that shouldn't b a problem since the phone finds the songs when I play them...!!
IF this is a problem with the SW, how can I send a bug report to the nokia SW programmers so they can fix this?!

I take it you have the latest firmware (v20.0.015). It could be the large number of songs is causing the problem. I have exactly 51 songs and it lets me define separate ringtones for contacts.
As a last resort, maybe you should reinstall your firmware. But only if you really, really want this separate ringtone thing, otherwise it's a waste of time.

When I purchased ringtones for my texts and two of them dont play when someone texts me,but plays when they call

    Hi Kel134,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that you are having microphone issues on your iPhone when you place a call to someone and they cannot hear you unless you activate the speaker function. In this situation I would recommend the steps in the following article to help isolate and resolve the situation.
    iPhone: Microphone issues
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts5183
    Resolve the issue
Follow these steps, testing after each.
Make sure nothing is plugged in to the jack connector.
Make sure nothing is blocking any of the microphones (refer to the pictures below to find your device's microphones). Check for these:
    Dirt or debris
    A screen protector or case
When you're holding your phone next to your ear, make sure you don't block the microphone with your fingers or shoulder and make sure to speak into the microphone
Turn the iPhone off and then on.
Update to the latest version of iOS.
If necessary, find general iPhone hardware troubleshooting suggestions.
For further assistance, contact Apple Support.
    I hope this helps,

  • Setting my own ringtone for calls

Can someone please tell me how I set my own ringtones and message tones as I have gone over it so many times its doing my head in now. Many thanks in advance

You cannot set additional ringtones for messaging, but you can for ringtones.
There are many ways to make ringtones. Several are explained here:

  • Group ringtones on 2600 classic

I've set up 4 specific contact groups, then gone into my general profile 4 times and assigned a ringtone to each group. Problem is, I then need a ringtone for everyone else, eg incoming calls that might not be in my contact list. If I go back into the general profile and set a ringtone to "all calls", this over-rides the group tones. I suspect I'm doing something dumb - can someone please help? Thanks, Marion.

Sorry guys, I took another look at an existing post and realised the answer was staring me in the face (thanks to Maple 777 in April 2008). It's amazing how much clearer the instructions were after I made a cuppa and put brain into gear. My apologies to anyone who wasted time on this! *blushes*

  • New 4s.  Adjusted all ringtones by contact and now they are all showing as "multiple ringtones" for each contact.  Help!

I set up my new iphone 4s and assigned ringtones to my contacts on my phone.   A day later each contact showed "multiple ringtones".   How do I keep that from happening?  I did not physically sync my phone and am set up on icloud to sync.   thx.

I had this problem due to Linked contact cards so that each contact was composed of more than one entry. Apparently the Contacts list can get corupted and have more entries than you think. I found the answer in the Linked /Unknown discussion on this community. My reply that I poste dthere fixed the problem.
    This is what I wrote:
    ================================================
I had a problem where I could not get the assigned ringtone to ring correctly. Tried removing and restoring the contacts from MobileMe several times and resetting sync to copy the computer contacts to replace the MobileMe contact. Still no luck. Then I looked at the All Contacts number and it was larger than the total number in my Contacts list on the computer. So there were extras I couldn't see. When I turned off the MobileMe Contacts, some where still left anyway.
I then tried to cleanup the list by looking for hidden contacts. I tried the contacts "cleaner app" I had, called Group, which removes duplicates, but it did not find anything. Then I tried your recommended Cleanup app (seach in App Store for Cleanup), and, lo and behold, it found a lot of contacts that should not have been there still. Cleanup removed them all, leaving the list squeaky clean.
Then I turned on MobileMe Contacts again, and after the Contacts list populated, the number agreed with the number on  my computer. And the switching of assigned ringtones now works correctly.
So, I basically did what you recommended, but since I am not using iCloud to sync, since I haven't switched to Lion, I did the same thing using MobileMe.

  • 6300 Caller Group & Profile problems

    Hi
Just bought this phone for my girlfriend. She is trying to set a certain mp.3 ringtone to a specific caller group.
She has only one caller group (my details) which has several numbers, a profile image and a caller group tone.
However, when i call her mobile, her default ring tone plays, and the number displayed is just that, the number. No name, or profile image appear.
I have looked high and low, via the instruction manual and the internet, and i can not find where the problem could be.
She is using SIM & Phone for the memory. I have switched off the phone and back on, and still no joy.
It seems as if the standard ring tone & settings is over-riding the caller group profile.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?
    Many Thanks
    Andy

    Here is what I do...
    1) Menu -> Contacts -> Groups
    2) Scroll to the group and press Options, DO NOT OPEN THE GROUP (i.e. View)
    3) Select 'Group details'
    4) Scroll down to 'Group tone' and press Options, DO NOT PLAY IT
    5) Select 'Change tone'
    6) Select 'Open Gallery'
    7) Navigate to, and select, your tone.
    Hope this helps.

  • I am looking for a good Call Blocking App for my iPhone 5...any suggestions??

I am in need of a good call blocking app for iPhone....please any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

As Randy Landry1 says, Google for "silent ringtone", download and install on you iPhone as a ringtone.
Now create a contact for the offending phone number. Assign the contact to the silent ringtone and set no vibrate.
When that number calls it will not ring, nor vibrate. It will light up the screen, but if you do not see that, it will not bother you. They could leave voice mail, but that is easily deleted.
And if it is a situation where the are violating the do not call list, you can use the missed call log to report the number to the FTC.
Also, if the calls are abusive or threading, and the leave a voice mail, you something to show the police.
