DUAL CHARGERS: even if you get one that claims 2A output, are there reasons why some charge slower than other non-Apple chargers or slower than Apple's OEM 2A single charger?
This charger works well with all my Apple devices.
http://www.ianker.com/product/71AN7105-W5A
It will charge my two iPads, my iPhone and an external battery pack at the same time with no problems and does so at the maximum rate the device will allow. I use Apple cables as those cables will work with any USB power source.

  • Calling all Apple geniuses......Help!!

iTunes is giving me an error message "An iPod has been detected, but it could not be identified properly. Please disconnect and reconnect the iPod, then try again. If the problem persists, uninstall iTunes , then install iTunes again."
This is only occuring with the Nano. My sons both have one and neither is working. They are both getting the same above message. My iPod Touch is not having this issue. I have uninstalled/reinstalled iTunes twice, ensured all Apple drivers and software was updated, and disconnected/reconnected the devices several times to no avail. Please help! =(

This is probably more appropriate for the OSX or Mac relevant forum simply because it has to do with mirroring and extending the desktop to the ATV.  This is a feature of OSX, not the ATV.

  • Calling all video techies

o.k. I've been nibbling at this for a while...
I'm looking to increase the productivity of my small business (creating slideshows for funeral homes)
Currently I have to pick up the hard copy pictures from each funeral home, scan them in, create the slideshow, burn the dvd and deliver it back to the funeral home. The lead time is often 24 hr or less.
I'd like to create a system where the funeral home staff can scan in the pictures and send them to me. I would then create the slide show and send it back to them. They could then put it as a looping video for their customers. I figured I would send a finished DVD (label, case etc.) via mail to the customer.
I'd like the process to be as simple as possible for the funeral homes (i.e. as few clicks to scan as possible) I'm willing to buy some hardware to get the process going so long as it cuts down the time required for the funeral homes to process the pictures and movie.
I think the scanning of pictures will be fairly simple to work out, but the delivery of the video back seems more difficult. Ideally the video will need to be password protected and should be at least 640x480 resolution.
My ideas for getting the video back.
    1. Send it via a video podcast- have the directors subscribe to a specific podcast. download the video to a nano and play it via composite hookups on their tvs.
    2. Leave a mac mini at the funeral home and use a file sharing to connect directly (funeral directors would then simply have to turn on their tvs and play the video with front row)
    3. leave a networked DVD burner (is there such a thing?) at the funeral home to burn a DVD remotely from my computer.
    4. send the directors a dmg file to burn to a dvd.
I like the first two because they require as few steps for the funeral directors as possible (though they would cost a bit)
any constructive advice or improvements on these ideas would be much appreciated.

  • Calling all electrical Techies!

The problem started buying off-brand when Apple only offered the OEM short charging cables & single USB chargers. I didnt want to carry an extension cord or 2 wall warts everywhere (I have an iPhone and iPad) and when the non-Apple 6 and 10 ft cables and dual chargers appeared on market, I tried them.
Intermittently the cables provoke the dreaded on screen error message they may not work properly (I gather Apple cables have a chip inside?) and the off-brand dual chargers I bought seem to take longer to charge than Apple's, sometimes MUCH longer!
I gather that 10 ft cables and off-brand chargers, even 2A ones, used together are a great recipe for charging problems.
While pricey, Apple now makes a 6ft cable (THANK YOU APPLE!), but am I correct that having a 2A external wall wart charger doesn't insure you'll get Apple charging rates? I've checked but haven't found an Apple dual USB charger.
    To the Techs reading:
CABLES: there must be a reason why a non-Apple 6 footer retails for under $10 (some as cheap as $4!) and even if you get one that doesn't provoke the charging error message, can they cause slower charge time? If so, why?
DUAL CHARGERS: even if you get one that claims 2A output, are there reasons why some charge slower than other non-Apple chargers or slower than Apple's OEM 2A single charger?
What about all the top name brand power strips and in-wall electrical outlets with USB ports like: GE, Leviton, Belkin. Will these charge at fast rates and not hurt your devices?

  • Is there anyway to correct the call back telephone number mentioned in the scheduled call from Apple?

I just had a call from Apple tech team regarding my iPhone not getting activated after inserting nano sim and they decided that my new unlocked iPhone5 needs replacement. I am already disappointed by Apple bcos of the delay in getting my new iPhone5 started and now declaring that the set I received is a faulty one and need replacement.
Again for replacement they have schedule another call from sales team and doing so they have mentioned the number which is not right. I told him to call me back on the same number but an email which i received post that call has a wrong phone number in it. It could not have gone worse.
Do anyone know how to change the call-back number to a scheduled call from apple?
    Thanks,
    AK

The devices that are listed are: 2 under the name of the device that synced incorrectly with mine and then 3 others that are not associated with my itouch. The name of the ipod, before the incorrect sycning is no longer under devices.  It has been replaced with the incorrect one because I can see the serial # of my ipod under the wrong name.
The playlists that are in my itunes library are from an ipod that I used a few times before I took this one over... Which happens to be the ipod that took on the ID of my itouch.
Both of these ipods used to be my kids.. I used my sons a few times and then switched to my daughters.  They each had their names attachted to their particular devices and now it just says my sons, which is the ipod that itunes was connecting to when all this happened. The really strange thing is my son doesnt use his ipod any longer and now uses his phone for music...So, it had been a while since that particular device was even synced to itunes!
    I hope this helps!

  • All Airport dropouts: CALL APPLE TECH SUPPORT NOW!!!

I am using an Airport card in my iMac to connect wirelessly to the internet. My wireless signal has been unreliable since I bought this computer in November. I've tried new router settings, upgrading firmware, even bought a new router. I have spent hours on the phone with Apple Technical Support, have taken my computer to two different Apple stores for diagnosis and repair and am on my second erase and re-install. I told my latest tech guy that this seemed like a pretty wide spread problem with all the messages on these boards, but, according to him, it's really only a tiny fraction of all of the business Apple does. I find it to be one of the most disruptive and infuriating glitches that I've experienced because there is no good fix for it and because Apple clearly doesn't care to figure out what the problem is. I was even the one that suggested to my tech guy that I send him my log to try and see where the problem lies. Why has no one ever looked at my log! Yesterday's tech guy finally agreed to replace my computer. I'm not sure I want one. My eMac still works fine. Maybe I'll just sell the new one. Anyone want a new in box 20" iMac?

I have some information you can pass on to Apple Tech support, if you ever contact them again.
iWeb 1.0, from what I have heard, generally connected just fine, but 1.1 and 1.1.1 did not for many people, myself included.
My own publishing problem turns out to have been because I run a Squid Caching Proxy in my basement. I was fortunate enough to discover why iWeb stopped publishing. My experience is documented here: http://www.untergeek.com/?p=675
Having perused many of the "publishing error" -type posts in this forum, I can tell you that many have discovered that they are able to upload via dial-up or from another site via a different ISP. This leads me to believe that some ISPs block these new HTTP methods, causing iWeb publishing to fail. (The HTTP methods are ACL and DMMKPATH).
So the short version is that iWeb isn't at fault, per se, but rather that the disconnect is between the new HTTP methods and some ISPs performing some sort of filtering. I imagine that Apple's developers had no idea that these new methods could or would be filtered in this fashion.
Perhaps when they find out that this is occurring, they'll make a non-filtered work-around.

  • HT204150 I currently have 14,181 contacts that are on my computer, which an apple tech was nice enough to show me how to transfer all my contacts  from my mac 2 "iCloud " account all though when ever I log into my "iCloud" account it still only shows 13,0

I currently have 14,181 contacts that are on my computer, which an apple tech was nice enough to show me how to transfer all my contacts  from my mac 2 "iCloud " account all though when ever I log into my "iCloud" account from a different web browser it still only shows 13,032. Meanwhile on my mac book pro, the "icloud" contact is still spinning like its trying to update the rest of the missing contacts. I have let the computer run for 2 days straight and still no progress. Is there a limit to how many contacts I store on "iCloud" I have upgraded to the extra 25 gigs per year. If anyone has any advice I would greatly appreciate it, because its also slowing down my mac book pro significantly causing it hard to do any other task on my computer....Any advice or help would be again greatly appreciated.

On the surface, it doesn't sound like you're reaching a limit in the number of contacts you can have.
I would first create a contacts archive (file >> export) for a backup.  Then, go to system preferences >> icloud and uncheck contacts.  Reboot.  Return to those preferences and recheck contacts.
Also, review http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4489 just in case you have some contact cards that are reaching a different limitation.

  • HT1430 I have IPad 1 and for some of my game Apps, I need at least IOS 4.3.  How do I update my IPad?  I have gone to settings, General, but I do not have the option fo update..should k call Apple Tech?

I have IPad 1 and for some of my game Apps, I need at least IOS 4.3. I open my IPad to Settings, General, but there is no "update" to select..should I call Apple Tech to have my IPad updated???thanks

The Settings > General > Software Update option only appears when you have iOS 5+ installed, you will need to update via your computer's iTunes.
Connect the iPad to your computer's iTunes and copy any purchases off the iPad to your computer via File > Devices > Transfer Purchases. You may also want to copy photos and any important documents off the iPad as well e.g. via the file sharing section at the bottom of the device's apps tab when connected to iTunes, via wifi, email, dropbox etc - they should be included in the backup, but it's best to have a copy of them outside of the backup just in case. You can then force a backup of the iPad via File > Devices > Back Up
Then start the update by selecting the iPad on the left-hand sidebar, and on the Summary tab on the right-hand side clicking the Check For Updates button
    Updating to iOS 5+ : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4972
You can only update a device to the highest iOS version that it supports, which for a first gen iPad is iOS 5.1.1

  • Just received a replacement ipad and when I connected it to my computer I followed the prompts exactly like the apple tech said. Problem is, I get to a screen prompt that asks me to restore (which he said to click) and now my screen is frozen.

I just received a replacement iPad and when I connected it to my computer I followed the prompts exactly like the apple tech told me too. When I got to a prompt asking if I wanted to restore the iPad he said to click on it. I did. Now my iPad screen is frozen on the iTunes connect screen and I cannot get out of it.  An iPad shows connected in my iTunes folder, but when I run a diagnostic it says no iPad is detected.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Personally, I would call Apple back.  However...
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

  • HT6154 My iPhone 4g wi fi is greyed out. I've backed it up to my computer after having a lengthy discussion with an Apple tech person at the apple store. What should I do next?

My iPhone 4g cannot connect to wi fi. It is greyed out. I've spent the day at Apple, backing up my iPhone to my computer, resetting network, and rebooting everything many times. What is the next best step? The Apple tech at the store said that my phone no longer has a warranty and I should either get another 4G or go to a 5c. I've seen that iPhones generally have a greyed out problem and that it's not software, but a hardware issue. Help!

    Kernel panics:
After taking my late 2009 15 inch macbook pro to the apple store, the genius completely erased my computer and reinstalled the Mac OS X software, but the problem still persists.
I also took it to my college tech support center, they tried to take the ram out and reinsert it and clean up the dust, but the problem still remains.
I am able to use my computer in Safeboot mode (only)
Well it could still be a software problem if you installed a third party program after the OS X wipe and install, because by booting into Safe Mode it disables certain functions of OS X and hardware. Check for updates or problems for all your third party software, include everything, including menulets, System Preference panes, hacks and so forth.
If you restored any sort of software from backup like TimeMachine, it likely was corrupted data and now is returned.
If the college tech support found a lot of dust clogging the rear exhaust vents behind the fans, then likely the heat damage done to the machine has already occured and can't be reversed. Video cards are usually first to go, which Safe Mode does disable the video card somewhat.
Run through this list of fixes, it's systematic in nature, also has a Hardware Test to see what's going on
..Step by Step to fix your Mac
Too bad this is occurring to a mere 4 year old machine, but dust will do that. Here is the culprit that Apple doesn't tell anyone about.

  • I bought Lion and downloaded on my laptop, all is great. I was told by Apple tech I could put it on my family's computers (up to 4). However, I just tried to put on my daughter's and it asked for my billing info again. How do I avoid repeated charges?

I bought Lion and downloaded it on my laptop. Apple tech said I could install it on family computer without buying again, they said it could be on 5. I just tried to install on my daughter's and was asked for my billing info again. How do I install on family computers without having to pay again?

Your other computers must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed. You open App Store and sign in using the same Apple ID used to purchase Lion. Click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of the entry for your Lion purchase.
    Here's a tip:
    Make Your Own Lion Installer
    1. After downloading Lion you must first save the Install Mac OS X Lion application. After Lion downloads DO NOT click on the Install button. Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the Lion installer. Move the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes installing Lion.
    2. Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:
Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area.  If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing.  SMART info will not be reported  on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
    3. Locate the saved Lion installer in your Downloads folder. CTRL- or RIGHT-click on the installer and select Show Package Contents from the contextual menu. Double-click on the Contents folder to open it. Double-click on the SharedSupport folder. In this folder you will see a disc image named InstallESD.dmg.
    4. Plug in your freshly prepared USB flash drive. You are going to clone the InstallESD.dmg disc image to the flash drive as follows:
    Open Disk Utility.
Select the USB flash drive from the left side list.
Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
Check the box labeled Erase destination.
Select the USB flash drive volume from the left side list and drag it to the Destination entry field.
Drag the InstallESD.dmg disc image file into the Source entry field.
Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
When the clone is completed you have a fully bootable Lion installer that  you can use without having to re-download Lion.

When I try to restart Apple Mobile Device Service I get the following message: "The Apple Mobile Device Service on Local Computer started then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs". What does this mean?
During the last 48 hours I was able to see my iPad in iTunes only one time during many attemnpts to connect . I haven't been able to see it during the llast several attempts.
