Camera App Hangs On Startup

Hi,
the camera app hangs when I start it up. The shutter doesn't open (I can switch to the camera roll and view photos though). I tried restore twice, doesn't help. Sounds like a hardware issue to me!?
Anyone else experienced something like this?
Chris

I forgot to post back with the results of my trip to the Apple Store. The tech restarted the phone with boot diagnostics which reported no camera present. His first thought was that the camera cable might have wiggled loose. He popped the cover, reseated the camera cable, and rebooted. Same result: no camera present. He deemed it faulty hardware and replaced the phone. I'm not sure how to access the boot diagnostics (Google probably knows), but it might be worth seeing if the camera hardware is detected. Hope this helps.

Got the new iphone on friday and my e-mail is working great on it...however my mail.app now hangs when I start the application. I have read some posts on here but really needs some help on troubleshooting this and what are the first steps I should take.
    Thanks

Open the Accounts preference (System Preferences) and click on the Login Items tab. If you see your Mail and iCal applications in the list then select them and click on the delete [-] button.

Double tap Home button and delete Camera app from multitask-list.
    Do a
Reset: Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Note: You will not lose any data

  • 10.6 -- All Office 2008 apps hang at splash screen. FontCache Tool runaway

Did an upgrade of 10.5 to 10.6. Nearly everything works fine. Can't launch Office 2008. All apps hang at their splash screen; usually at Optimizing Font Menu Performance.
Once an app is opened, in Activity viewer you'll find a process called FontCache Tool using >90% of the CPU (on my Core Duo MBP at least, YMMV). I suppose it's saying a lot about 10.6 that the computer is completely usable with that runaway process. Even after forcing the office app(s) to quit, Font Cache Tool stays running until it's killed manually.
I have yet to find out if FontCache Tool is an Apple or MS process. I think it's microsoft.
    This happens under multiple users.
    This happens after reinstalling Office.
This was an Office 2008 upgrade from Office 2004.
After reinstall, and installing Rosetta, office 2004 will run, but office 2008 will not.
    Office 2008 is 12.2.1.
I am running FontAgent Pro for font management, and so font book sees certain activated fonts as duplicates. (Validate fonts shows duplicate warnings but no errors). FontAgent Pro 4.0.3 is listed as Snow Leopard compatible. So is Office 2008.
I have yet to do a clean SL install, which I'm guessing will fix it, but I'm curious if there is a sub-sledgehammer approach, or if I am the only person with this issue.
Other probably irrelevant facts include that the computer is bound to both Active Directory and OS X OpenDirectory servers. Open Directory is running on Leopard 10.5 Server. It does have some managed preferences, including those for Office (e.g. to set default to .doc rather than .docx) but the situation persists even after removing those managed preferences.
Normally really specific problems are easy to isolate and solve, but I'm at a loss.
    Any help appreciated

Hey i think i figured it out.
Had the same prob. 10.6 12.2.1 entourage hanging.
Renamed FCT, instantly prompted that a font was corrupt. Removed the corrupt Font: KufiStandardGK.ttf << this just happened to be my one corrupt font.
A little troubleshooting i did leading up to this, I read your post and my situation was the same. I use Linotype X to manage fonts. I disabled all but the minimum fonts (i moved them into a folder font_trouble in the same folder)
I also deleted every office pref/plist setting i thought relevant to startup which triggered the microsoft setup assistant (watched via the console app) and it ran through its check and then immediately the fontcachetool started and went awol on cpu time. Once i killed it--during the starting up of word and entourage... timing may be unrelated but i did them at nearly the same time.
Ps. Your post was extremely well written and I apologize for my stream of consciousness, less than stelllar response... hope this helps if not feel free to ping me for more details on what I did...
Good Luck.. All my office apps are running normally now.

  • IWork apps hanging

Recently my iWork apps have started to hang on startup.  Once I open them they simply start reporting that they are Not Responding.  I don't get to any screen and just have to right click and do a Force Quit.
I know that's not much info but it's all I have to work with right now as I don't know exactly when the issue started.  I don't use Pages and Numbers that often.
Any ideas as to what might be causing this or is it just me?
I also noticed this is happening on my brand new MacBook Pro also.  It's a new system with very few apps installed and less than 40 hours on time.
    Thanks,
    Richard

    Hi Richard,
Have you tried launching the applications from a different user account? If they behave well there, it's a strong indication that the issue lies in the applications Preferences files in your main account. The cure is to remove those files and let Numbers build a new, clean, set.
Quit Numbers, then, in Finder, press and hold the option key as you go to the Go menu and choose Library. Then follow the path below:
    Library > Preferences
Select and delete the file com.apple.iWork.Numbers.plist
    Relaunch Numbers.

    Barry

  • DW 2004 Application Hangs on startup

DW 2004 has gotten to the point where it hangs
    every time
for the first start up on Windows XP Pro. I use Task Manager
to end one of the two DW apps. Second startup always runs so far.
Application events show two "Application Hang" errors four
    seconds apart.

Yes, that would be the easy answer. 2.00 GB. Doesn't seem to
matter how many other programs have started up. And DW always
    starts the second try.

  • App hangs on 1.4.1, ok on 1.3.1_03

My (swing based) app is compiled & runs fine with 1.3.1_03. It also runs fine with 1.4.1 on many Win2K Professional machines. It hangs at startup on a Win2K server. With -verbose switched on, the following trace is produced:

Thought this may be related to DirectDraw usage in 1.4 and therefore set sun.java2d.noddraw=true, but this makes no difference.
Has anyone had similar problems ?

    Hello Sergej
Thanks for your info, but unfortunately this has not solved the problem.
    I tried the following:
    1) re-installed jdk 1.4.1
    1) installed DirectX 8 for W2K
    2) installed newest driver for graphiccard
    3) reboot
    Still hangs at
    [Loaded sun.awt.Win32GraphicsEnvironment from C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.1\lib\rt.jar]
Then tried sun.java2d.noddraw=true, but this made no difference either.
Changed back to 1.3.1_03 & it's ok, but I really need to use 1.4.1

  • Camera app wont open

My z10 camera app won't open when I try it displays a blank page with a camera icon then goes back to the main menu. I've tried a battery pull twice but no joy. Any ideas anybody?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

I was able to solve the problem with the help of BlackBerry support as I had all my images saving to the sd media card
It was fairly simple for me I was advised to take out the sd media card and to see if the application will boot...the app then booted no problems.
So if it boots without the media card inserted, then backup all the content on your media card and wipe the media card and format the card and I formatted it using the Z10
that solved my problem as the phone was trying to read the card and cache/display all the images it was hanging, give that a shot and let me know if it worked for you...worked for me and kept on working without any problems then
after it worked for a good while, i did go through the process of backing up my phone and reinstalling the OS [just in case of a bad install or something, safe measures] and so far so good for the camera app, hasn't crashed and I've been taking pictures all throughout the day

  • Camera app problem after updating to 8.0.2

FFacing hanging up of the cameri app while opening through locked screen and even through normal way
    wwhat to do

    Hello there Ankushrohit4,
It sounds like your Camera app is not opening correctly when you launch it from the lock screen. I would start by quitting all the running apps:
iOS: Force an app to close
    Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
When you have done that restart the device and test the issue again:
iOS: Turning off and on (restarting) and resetting

  • Iphone 5c camera stucked/Hanged

All of a sudden my Iphone camera hanged/stuck like I can't take picture nor i can view.......pls advice

    Hi stfromthimphu,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you're not able to take pictures with the Camera app on your iPhone 5c.
I recommend starting with these tips to troubleshoot the issue:
If you see a closed lens or black screen when you open the Camera app, try these steps:
Make sure that there’s nothing blocking the camera lens. If you’re using a case, try removing it.
Force the app to close, then open the Camera app again.
Restart your device, then open the Camera app again.
If your device has a front and rear camera, try both cameras by tapping the camera swap icon .
If you see the closed lens or black screen on only one camera, take your device to an Apple Retail Store or Authorized Service Provider for more help.

  • Hanging on startup: Is there an "audio filters" solution?

FCP HD has recently started hanging on startup when it gets to "loading audio filters." I have tried various things recommended in the forum, trashing preferences, running the FCP rescue program, deleting plug-ins from the audio folder in the library. Nothing works.
I recently updated to Quicktime 7.0.4 and thought that might be the problem -- a few people said it was buggy -- so I did an uninstall and went back to 7.0.1. No luck.
Has anyone found an easy fix for this? Or am I looking at a clean install of the OS and my apps? Or would you first recommend a re-install of just Final Cut? The procedure for that looks very convoluted, since it does not have an uninstall feature.
    Thanks much for any advice,
    Jim

look for any audio stuff that begins with "AU" and move it to another place or temporarily re-name it.

  • IMac (Mid 2007) hangs at startup before the Apple logo comes up

I have a 20" 7,1 iMac (Mid 2007) with Lion installed on it that hangs at startup before the Apple logo even comes up. The machine is on a APC surge protector, but not on a UPS. We had a few power outages yesterday that were caused by high winds. When I came home the machine was stuck at a white screen. When I tried cycling the power it got stuck at the initial white screen. Since then I have tried the following, with no luck:
    - booting in safe mode
    - booting in verbose mode
    - booting into single user mode
    - booting into hardware test mode
    - booting in recovery mode
    - booting from the original DVDs
In all cases it just hangs at the initial white screen. About the only thing that has worked is reseting the PRAM and NVRAM. Which definitly reset the speaker volume and screen brightness, but did not get it to boot any further.
Oh, and I should note that I have unplugged all external devices and switch back to the orginal (usb) keyboard and mouse.
Any thoughts on what the issue might be? I have done a number of searches, but I did not find much info about machines hanging so early in the boot process.
    Thanks in advance.

Good work so far, about the only thing left to try is...

  • Creative Cloud (app) crashes on startup after update

  • WebLogic 10.3.2.0 hanging at startup after "The server log file is opened."

    Hi,
A WebLogic 10.3.2.0 server is hanging at startup. There are no error messages. The last command in the startup window is:
"The server log file <log file dest> is opened. All server side log events will be written to this file."
I think the next line should be:
"Security initializing using security realm realm."
Any ideas on what could be the issue? For instance what resources should be accessed at that point of time? There is sufficient space left on the (virtual machine) disk. The VM configured with 8GB memory. Could it be performance related still?
Following is written to the log file:
