Camera RAW 8.3 new feature to set White and Black Sliders

How does the new feature in ACR 8.3 and Lightroom 5.3 to shift double click the White and Black sliders affect the recommended way to adjust an image?

I found this out by accident, but it is mentioned in the release notes for the PS-CC ACR 8.3 RC plug-in, not LR, but it works in both products. The Temp and Tint also have independent auto-behavior, now, too:

I have checked for updates and it tells me I have the current version. I check in PS I have version 14.2.1. Unfortunately it was clicking on Updates that brought the “dangerous website” pop-up, but several hours later I tried again for the umpteenth time, and it worked! I am so glad because I am working on a project with a deadline.
Thanks for replying. Maybe if someone else has this problem they could be told to wait a few hours and try again.
The main option on the ‘dangerous’ pop-up is a “Get me out of here!” button, which I always clicked. There are options to go to the website anyway, but I am too leery of the web to do that. Now that I know it’s possible to reach the update center without risk I will never consider it.

My student has been using Lightroom 4 with Photoshop CS5 on her Mac for well over a year. Because of the difference between the Camera raw version available to her in Photoshop CS5 and the raw process in Lightroom 4, she has been exporting her raw images

My student has been using Lightroom 4 with Photoshop CS5 on her Mac for well over a year. Because of the difference between the Camera raw version available to her in Photoshop CS5 and the raw process in Lightroom 4, she has been exporting her raw images from Lightroom and choosing the "Render using Lightroom option when it popped up in the dialogue box. She has been doing this for over a year and a half without any problem. Today when she hit Command E no dialogue box appeared and the image just opened in Photoshop. I'm concerned that all of her Lightroom edits are not being rendered to Photoshop. Anyone have an idea as to how we can get the "Render using Lightroom" dialogue back?

Hi Teresa, you may have worked this out already? but i just downloaded Photoshop CC and I too used the recovery and fill light buttons and couldnt see them in the raw processing window... HOWEVER!! i did some research and they are available!! YAY, you can toggle between the latest and the older layout... and the recovery and fill optoins ARE there... the link explains it... but when you open some raw files... on the right you should see a little camera - camera calibration button when you click on there the first drop down PROCESS - change to 2012 mode and then click back to the BASIC processing wheel and they will be there... cheers Danni

Camera Raw problem with new Nidon D90 and CS2

Please forgive me if this is a repeated question . . . but I need some advice . . . I just picked up a new Nikon D90 tonite . . . I'm using Mac 10.4.11 and Photoshop CS2 . . . when I tried to open my raw files in Bridge, I get the message that these files cannot be recogniized . . .After searching Adobe support I just have more of a headache . . .I primarily shoot Raw . . . and have never had a problem with CS2 and Bridge with my Nikon D80 . . . Of course you get an error! The D90 didn't come out until way after Adobe stopped upgrading ACR for Photoshop CS2. You will never have support for your NEF files with Photoshop CS2. If you don't want to use the DNG converter you have several choices. Upgrade to Photoshop CS4 or Lightroom 2.x, purchase Photoshop Elements (latest version, although Camera Raw doesn't have all its features in Photoshop Elements), purchase some other software that will support your NEF files. The only way you can have the support for your NEF files in Photoshop CS2 is to use the DNG converter.
A lot of people complain that it is an "extra step" to use the DNG converter. You have to download the images from your camera anyway. Just use the DNG converter to do that. It will take a little longer than a normal download, but once the download/conversion is completed your workflow is no different than it otherwise would be.
Camera Raw has matured greatly since Photoshop CS2. You purchased an outstanding camera. It's now time to upgrade your software. ACR is little more than a toy in Photoshop CS2.

CS4 Extended with Camera Raw Reinstalled on New Computer (old one died) will not open CR2.

I had CS4 Extended installed on an HP laptop that recently died. I have a Canon 5D Mark II and have been using camera raw with CR2's off of that camera for at least 2 years.
I still have the disks so I reinstalled the Photoshop on the new computer. Now I can't open CR2's. It says the file type is not correct. Same program, no freaky updates so why won't it recognize them?

The 5D Mark II was first supported in Camera Raw 5.2

CS4 shipped with Camera Raw 5.0 so by re-installing CS4 you've reverted to Camera Raw 5.0 which cannot read 5D Mark II Raw files.
Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications
In CS4, click Help > Updates to re-install Camera Raw 5.7 and you can once again edit 5D Mark II Raw files.

Elements 11 Camera Raw not supporting new Canon EOS 7D MkII.

When I try to open a Raw file from my new camera I get the message
'Could not complete your request because the file appears to be from a camera model which is not supported by the installed version of Camera Raw. Please visit the Camera Raw help documents for additional information'
I've updated my Elements 11 and restarted the computer (Windows 7), but the problem persists.
Any solutions?
I could open the file with Canon software (DPP) and transfer it to elements, but I'd sooner not - it's a rather clunky process.@

I think that Adobe do the best job they can. Adobe aren't treated any different from you or I by the camera manufacturers - they don't get any privileged information - they have to wait until they can get their hands on a camera the same as you or I.
If you want to blame someone then direct your blame on the camera manufacturers. If their raw files were written in DNG format then there would not be any problems or delays.
Just think, if nobody bought the new cameras for two months after they were being shipped, the camera manufacturers might change their attitude and cooperate with Adobe.
I don't think it will be too long before and update is released by Adobe. In the meantime, you can use the Canon DPP to convert the raw files or shoot in JPG to get familiar with the controls and settings.

Shot with my new Nikon D810. Updated from Photoshop CS6 to CC and my Bridge to CC thinking I would be able to open the NEF (RAW) files. Is the Nikon D810 supported yet?

Is the Nikon D810 supported yet?
Not officially yet since it is so new.
However you can download and manually install the Camera Raw 8.6 Release Candidate (a sort of post-beta, pre-release version) which includes D810 support. Use at your own risk until Raw 8.6 is final.

Just purchased Elements12, can't download Raw images from SD card from new Panasonic Lumix DMC-Gx7. CF card from Canon 5D works fine. I understand I have to upgrade camera raw, does anyone know how to do this and where to fine it. Please and thank you..

Can you please tell us which operating system you are running on and details of the camera producing the raw images (Make & Model).
Each different camera model has it's own unique format of the raw file and so the camera raw has to be updated occasionally. Gives us the details above and we can help you further.
I'm new with windows 8 and brand new computer

FWIW, my Help/Updates does not work. My ACR is 8.0 and each time that ACR has been updated during the last year I have tried to update it through Help/Updates and each time I have received in the Application Manager window that opens the text, "Your applications are all up to date." I suppose it is possible that the fact that I have an updated copy of LIghtroom (5.6) is confusing the Application Manager.
Because I do all my Raw processing in LR it does not really bother me that the PSE 12 ACR plugin does not update.

Adriana – I installed the download from the link in the 7/27 post and was able to convert my NEF files to DNG format from my new D810 camera, but could not view/edit the NEF-smalls. When I saw your latest post I used your link to go to that download and noticed that in the description it mentioned that the issues with the D810 NEF-small have been resolved. I deleted/emptied trash of the 7/27 download and re-installed the one mentioned from your link – although they were both identical in file size and version: 8.6 – hmm? I tried the converter – but nothing new was converted (I presume because all had already been converted before?). However, CS6 is still not able to open/edit neither the NEF-small file formats, nor the DNG created from it. I am thinking maybe I am missing a step, because when I select properties for Camera Raw in CS6, the version is 8.5.0.236 – is that ok (my CS6 version is 13.0.6 – and no other updates appear available)? I only downloaded the DNGConverter_8_6.dmg; installed the .pkg – did I forget a step? Thanks for your help!
