Camera still photo issue

It seems there is an issue with OS4 displaying the photos improperly when transferred or emailed. Still photos won't display properly when taken in portrait (upright). They look and display properly on the iphone itself, but not when emailed to someone. They display rotated (sideways). See for yourself
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=As0QeKNaQCY

I took four pictures, one from each of the four rotations of the phone, and emailed them to my gmail account.
In the phone, they all displayed upright.
In gmail in IE, they all displayed upright.
In Outlook, only the pic taken with the phone rotated 90 degrees counter clockwise was upright. The other pictures were displayed with varying rotations.
I think it's an issue with the mail client.

  • Still Photo Issue

I wanted to freeze frame the very last shot of my film. I used QT conversion to make a still image (PNG) and added that to the tail of the closing clip. I used the desaturate to make the closing shot like one of my opening shots. The still looks fine on the Mac cinema displays and also on my production monitor. When I run the clip and it gets to that last still - the still doesn't look the same as when I have the playhead over it and the clip in not running. It seems to have a very slight red cast to it and it looks the same on the production monitor - so it's not the Apple displays. I've sent the still to Photoshop and used desaturate and get the same 'value shift'. I tried 'make greyscale' in Photoshop and still get the same 'value shift'. While it's not glaring - it is slightly annoying in that it doesn't match the opening shots. Any idea what might be causing the shift?
    Thanks,

    Hi -
The first thing I would try is:
    Remove the PNG still
Place the playhead on the frame you want to freeze
Go to the menu Modify > Make Freeze Frame
Edit the freeze frame that is now in the viewer in place of where your PNG was
Drag the filter(s) that were applied to your opening clip to the new freeze frame - if there is flicker in your freeze frame you will also need to apply the de-interlace filter as well
    See if that matches better
    Hope this helps

  • OS X does not recognize DV camera in still photo mode.

Using iMovie, I can import DV movies from my Samsung SC-D453 mini-DV camcorder over a Firewire connection. But when I switch the camera to photo mode, OS X tells me there is nothing connected to the Firewire port, and I cannot import still photos from the Mini-DV camcorder. The camcorder has a USB 2 port, but I do not have a USB 2 port on the G4 so I cannot connect the camera over USB. USB is what I use with my Olympus digital camera to import still photos. Works fine. Any ideas on how I can get still photos from a mini-DV camcorder over a Firewire connection?

    Welcome to the Discussions.
USB 2.0 is often backward-compatible with USB 1.1.
They also use the same connector cables.
You could try using your Mac's USB 1.1 ports.
It might work, but will be slow.

  • IPhone 6 Plus Camera - Smudged Photos - A visit to Genius Bar

I have been using iPhone 6 Plus for more than 2 months. All through the phone is great for reading and battery life. Now the major problem I have been facing is the still photos taken with little bit of zoom are also getting smudged. The results are so bad they are a downgrade from iPhone 5. It is disheartening to see such poor quality software or image processing on such a hyped Camera Hardware. Coming to the point of solution I have visited the Genius Bar at Hillsdale Shopping Center San Mateo on 01/14/15. Following are the lame diagnosis steps they have done,
They did general diagnostic test - It has failed for too many App crashes - Genius Bar Associate said it is common, please reboot the phone regularly. What a solution!!!
Coming to camera they don't have any scientific way of finding the issues. So no proper diagnostic process.
They Took some pictures of Apple store with Zoom and without zoom. And showed me there are no smudge marks. What a great way of diagnosis!!!
Then I have mentioned them that it needs to take closeup of people. So now they started taking pictures of me with zoom and without zoom. After this they saw the smudges.
I have told them to compare with iPhone5. They took pictures of me with iPhone 5 and found the quality is much better than iPhone 6 Plus. Their explanation is f-stop and depth is different. What an innovative excuse for better picture quality on older version phone. I am seeing great bluffing activity started now.
Now the final comparison. They said they will compare with exact another iPhone 6 Plus and see if there are any issue with my phone. I said OK. Now they took pictures of me with a new identical iPhone 6 plus with zoom and without zoom. Great rope act now...they saw the exact smudges on photos on using the identical iPhone 6 Plus. Their explanation on next step.
Since both the phones are producing smudges they derived the conclusion that my phone has no issue. And they said that the issue is resolved. My answer to them is  "ISSUE IS NOT RESOLVED. IN FACT IT IS PROVED AND YOU BETTER ESCALATE IT AND SOLVE IT'
What a great experience at Genius Bar. If they have served beer or hard liquor instead of this BS I would have been a happy customer.

I never asked for any replacement....I wanted a solution for bad picture. If it is proved that all phones are producing same smudges they better think a common solution for all. Case is not closed, in fact it remains open as long as they doesn't answer it.
See the attached pictures how bad it is in low light...FYI...no editing done on these pictures.
    No Zoom
    Little Zoom
More Zoom..look how bad it gets...

  • Still photos disappear from video

I am just learning Premiere Elements for a newspaper where I work and designed a 4-minute video in which I dropped into the Timeline in 2 different place a series of four still photos. When I re-opened the file this morning, all the photos were missing from the timeline (the rest of the video was fine). In adding the photos through the 'Get Media' tab should the program not have added them for good or are the photos as they show in the Premiere Elements Project pointing to files on my desktop? In that case, perhaps I moved the original photo file folder? Does that original folder need to remain in one place for the life of the project? I may have uploaded the stills from a file in my paper's Staging area that is purged the following day.
Thanks for any insights. I have since re-imported the photos adn re-done the timeline which was a hassle.
    Douglas

    Douglas,
I found that the FLV played fine on my cable-modem connection (via my wireless g to my laptop). Now, for faster Export, you might weigh the lower connection speeds vs the resulting quality. Personally, I err on the side of quality, until the Webmaster starts complaining that too many users are still on dial-up, but that's just me.
Now, I was listening on the laptop on the patio (not the most critical listening environment, or method), but found nothing objectionable. The overall Audio levels might be a bit low, but at least should not blow speakers, if users have the volume set to max - unlike some music videos. The lack of an external mic connection is a big drawback, even on some higher-end video cameras.
I also found the result quite good. My wife has the G-10, but has never used it as a video capture device - impressive in your use.
The subject and location were interesting, as well. It's been far too long since I hiked the New River and surrounding areas.
    Thanks for sharing,
    Hunt
PS - did you solve the disappearing stills issue?

  • Why are still photos blurry when I play movie?

I am making a video slideshow using Adobe Premiere Elements 9. Most of the video is made up still photos. When I playback the video the still photos are blurry. What should I do to prevent this? Thanks!

I read your article Bill, and that just seems like a massive amount of work for the average individual who wants to put together a movie. Is all of that really necessary?
With PS, or PSE, and Scaling Actions, one can do batch processing of entire folders of images in moments. That linked article gives setup tips for doing batch scaling very easily, and the Action, plus Automate to Batch, will work on entire folders. My workstation will automatically process ~ 500 4000x3000 pixel images to 720x480 in about 2 mins.
There are two benefits when Scaling stills in an image processing program, prior to Import into an NLE (Non Linear Editor) program:
The processing overhead is greatly reduced
The quality is greatly improved, as the Scaling algorithms in an image processing program, are much better *
If one wants to let the NLE program do the processing, and one has many large images (especially at still camera resolutions), then they WILL need a very powerful computer.
    Good luck,
    Hunt
    * PrPro, as of CS5, has improved the quality of Scaling, but the overhead issue still exists.

  • Sequence finished - PAL iDVD - Still Photos Pixelated

I have finished a sequence which contains video and stills taken be digital cameras.
I use iPhotos to sort the photos.
When I look at the output either in FCE canvas or after I burned an iDVD (and watched it thru my PowerBook) the still photos look very pixelated; much worse than the video. So what I am saying is this is not an iDVD issue altho the iDVD slideshow of the same images looked great.
I don't think the choice of PAL on the iDVD was material as the image was pixelated in the FCE canvas. But, in past projects I have ignored pixelation when viewing in FCE Canvas as the image seems to improve once one views the DVD.
I used three methods to import these photos into FCE, drag and drop directly from iPhoto into the FCE Browser pane, create a still image through Still Life and create a still image through iMovie. In both the Still Life and iMovie I did not creat any movement and 'shared' both as dv.
I would be grateful for another solution. Surely people use still images successfully in FCE.
As I am in the US I do not have access to a PAL DVD. I am making this movie up for friends in Australia.

Taking NTSC material to PAL (or vice versa) within Final Cut always looks pretty bad to me in my opinion. You really need a good software standards converter like Graeme Nattress' standards converter to do this correctly.
As far a the still images go, you still haven't said if you're looking at the output on a video monitor. The material is being rendered into an interlaced video format for that type of monitor.
How large are the images? A high resolution image that has to be scaled significantly to fit video resolution and have the pixel aspect altered may have too much detail to be modified and then compressed well in a highly compressed format like DV. You're taking your 1.2MB frame and compressing it down to the equivalent of a 120KB frame. If you start with a frame that fits the right resolution and is the correct pixel aspect Final Cut will have to do less to the image, and you're more likely to get a better result.

  • Clicking noise after every still photo and chapter introduction.

After we have burned the DVD of our movie, we could hear loud clicking noises after every still photo and every chapter intro. These we could not hear in iMovie. The sound from the video camera was pulled all the way down on the clips following the stills.

    Hi HailGalvatron,
It's very possible that the new drive is DOA. It's not very common but it certainly happens. The drive shouldn't "click" or "grind" when the drive platter is spinning. If you're not able to detect the volume on the drive properly via Disk Utility (when booted to a CD/DVD), I'd say it'd be worth getting the drive exchanged.
I have a few Seagate Momentus drives in my stable of external drives and they've behaved pretty well over the years. I believe the issue that other users were reporting were with a specific 60GB model found in the first generation of MacBooks.

  • Camera Viewfinder - Display Issues

    BB 8100 Smartphone (EDGE) v4.5.0.110 (Platform 2.7.0.90)
Updated to new version firmware last night to get MMS capability and try to remove sepia like view from camera screen display when taking pictures.  Halfway successful - Can now send MMS with photo attachment.
Camera still shows sepia like viewfinder.  Sort of like night vision or infrared thermal imaging.  No Option tab in camera settings to select different display or picture mode - eg. Normal, B&W or sepia.
    here are camera setting:
    Default Flash - automatic
    White Balance - auto
    Pic Size - LG (1280 x 1024)
    Pic Quality - Superfine
    Store pics - device memory
Is problem with camera hardware or maybe new software will fix?
Pictures turn out fine (were really blurry but improved greatly when I carefully cleaned the lens )

  • Problem exporting Premiere Pro CS5.5 projects with still photos and h264 video

I'm a longtime Final Cut Pro user and evaluating Premiere Pro for my workplace before making the switch. I have been running into several problems when I try to export raw h264 video from a Canon 5D combined with still images on a Macbook Pro. Either I receive an error in Premiere Pro saying, "Error compiling movie. Unknown error." or Adobe Media Encoder appears to continue exporting (the time elapsed bar continues to move) even though the time remaining stays frozen once it hits a photo it doesn't like. It's not always the same photo.
I've spent several days trying to troubleshoot the issue, including batch resizing all photos to 1920 wide (to match the video settings), and it hasn't work. The sequence is currently set to render in ProRes 422. I've also tried HDV 1080p30 and MPEG-4. I cannot find any consistency with the errors. Occasionally an export will work, but every couple still photos will look like green static. I've also tried batch converting the photos in Photoshop to PNG and GIF without any luck. I'd include my default export settings but I've pretty much tried it all. I'm just trying to figure out what's causing the error since the message is very vague.
    Couple other notes:
There's plenty hard drive space available for export
I can export the DSLR video (h264, 1080p30) without still photos no problem
I can edit the same still photos and video in Final Cut with no problem
I have the same problem with auto-save on and off
I tried re-installing production premium, deleting the preference files and cleaning the media cache - no luck. I also tried exporting under a different user account and it wouldn't work.
This is driving absolutely crazy. I'm affraid to use PP on deadline because I don't see any issues until it's time to export. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
    - McKenna

Thanks Todd. Your questions were actually very helpful. I'm using a Macbook Pro with an Intel Core i7 processor and NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M graphics card. I'm running OS 10.6.8 and have the latest updates installed.
When I disabled the GPU acceleration, I was able to render and export without a problem. The problem only occured when using the GPU acceleration and mixing h264 with still photos. It also affected both rendered previews and the final export. I'm assuming its a support issue with the graphics cards, but it would be great if you had any other ideas. I appreciate your help.

  • The editable rectangles of my still photos in the composition panel suddenly stopped showing up.

    Hi There, Adobe Community!
I am relatively new to After Effects CC and am using it to create a stop motion film with a large amount of photos.
Usually, when importing the individual images into my composition panel, a sequence of editable rectangles appears in the compostition panel allowing me to edit the frame length of the still photos.
After around 950 imported images, the little rectangles suddenly stopped showing up. But when looking at a preview of the project, it's as if the photos are in there, in the sequence they should be. I'm just unable to edit them like the previous ones with recangles showing.
I probably am not describing this too well, so here is a screen shot which hopefully makes my problem somewhat more clear. The area of issue is where you see the descending sequence of boxes in the comp panel. The red tracking bar is there to show that there are still photos continuing the sequence, I just can't see the boxes for em..
thank you so much for any help in the matter!

So I guess you are talking about the layers in the timeline go missing, not the handles in the Comp Window.
I think you have run into a display bug. Try selecting the top hundred or so layers and pre-compose them. If the missing layers appear then that's the problem. I have had it happen a couple of times before in previous versions of AE..
Here's a workflow hint for you, break your comps up into short sequences instead of trying to do a 4 or 5 minute piece with 900 layers in a single comp. You'll find editing and changing a lot easier.
I would also pre-mix your music. AE is a really terrible music mixer....

  • I am still having issues with the TOC. I finally got several chapters and sections to show different pictures in the TOC, but have spent hours trying to figure out how to repeat it. This should be so simple. Is there an update? Please help us Apple.

I am still having issues with the TOC pictures. I got several chapter/section photos to show up, but can't seem to repeat this success. It is some mystery that happened during a time that I had practically given up. This should be such a simple thing. Drag and place a picture into the placeholder and it shows up in the TOC....right? Help, help help! want to get this thing done and it's taken two days of work just get some of the photos to show up. I am going to have to publish this ibook with no photos in several sections.....why can't this be simple? I have even had someone else spend hours trying to figure this out. This software is such a GREAT idea....come on...help with this little part of it.

I had the same problem myself. I got to the point where I couldn't replace the photo, of a new chapter, in the TOC. What I did was to duplicate an existing chapter that was working and was able to replace it's TOC's photo. I also found that if you try different areas of the photo you can sometimes get it to replace correctly. For example, instead of dragging the new photo to the middle of an existing photo, try dragging it to the right top corner.

  • Is there a way to retrieve camera roll photos after failed backup

I backed up my iphone 4 to itunes (not icloud) yesterday, and today i went to the apple store to see if they could fix a broken lock button. They issued me a new phone, and assured me that i woult be able to retrieve my camera roll photos after restoring my phone from backup. Everything restored to my phone EXCEPT the photos. Some of them are very important to me and i would like to know if there is a way to retreive all of the photos through my computer, phone or itunes. PLEASE help me.

The Camera Roll photos should have restored, as they are part of the backup, unless you had a corrupted backup. Connect the phone, right click on it in iTunes, and choose Restore from Backup. If you are given a choice of backups choose one from before you replaced the phone.
However, the Camera Roll is not intended as a permanent store for photos; they should be transferred to a photo app on your computer or Photo Stream frequently, to avoid the situation you are now facing.

  • My still photos look blurry on burned iDvds

I've been trying to make a DVD of still photos. My DVD from iDVD is blurry when viewed. It's blurry wether I look at it on a TV or the computer, so it's not a screen quality issue. My photos are nice and clear on iDVD when making the disc, but the disc quality is horrible. Looking at the forums it seems that I'm not the only one with this issue, but all the suggestions either don't make sense to me or I can't make them work. It seems as though some have had success making an iMovie and then making a .mov file in HD, then dragging it into iDVD. I can't drag the .mov file into iDVD. I also cannot burn the .mov file to disc. I'm starting to hate Apple for telling me how intuitive my computer is. If it was so intuitive a computer dummy like me could figure it out. Very frustrated...

    Hi
I think that this have several reasons
    • No DVD can do the same quality as Your Mac Screen - NON. DVD is as standard SD-video and can not be any better.
    • Assemble SlideShows in iMovie'08 or 09 or 11 then Send to iDVD - will make things even worse
    a. iMovie'08 or 09 or 11 - can only deliver every second line to iDVD resulting in 50% loss
    b. Share to iDVD - makes iMovie to render and so bad - Better is to Share to Media Browser and from iDVD import from it's Media Browser - iDVD renders so much better
So to get best quality DVD is not the way - Blu-Ray or photos on a memory stick can be so much better or even projected directly from the Mac - will give best quality possibly
To get an as good DVD as possibly
    • Use a program that can do SlideShows and export them without any loss eg
◊ iMovie up to HD6 (previous versions)
    ◊ FinalCut any version
    ◊ FotoMagico™
    are what I use.
I let iDVD do the rendering
    I use Verbatim DVD-R disks
I set down burn speed to x4 (less burn errors and DVD works on more Players)
