Can a A945US laptop with Vista have a solid state drive installed?

It doesn't appear many questions get answers around here... I can forsee driver problems...

Hi:
Many times questions don't get answers because people just don't know. No one is deliberately ignoring you.
There are hundreds of HP notebooks out there, and unless someone has actually installed (or attempted to install) a SSD in that particular model, all we can do is speculate.
I will offer you my opinion. That is all I can do, since I do not own your model notebook and I have never installed a SSD in any notebook or desktop PC.
Let's start with the manual...
http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01295803.pdf
Chapter 3, page 21 lists the supported drives for your notebook series.  No SSD's are listed as optional drives.
Let's take a look at your PC's architecture...
Your notebook either has the GM965 or the GL960 chipset. I can't say for sure since I am not quite sure if the T2390 works with just the GM965 or the GL960 or both.
You can run the Intel chipset ID utility to find out what chipset you have.
http://www.intel.com/support/chipsets/inf/sb/CS-009266.htm
If you have the GM965 chipset, theoretically, it should.
You can see if your notebook is listed in this Crucial site as supported for an SSD
http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/ssd.aspx
And according to the site, a SSD is supported.
http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/listparts.aspx?model=Presario%20a900%20Series&Cat=SSD
I just happened upon the Crucial UK site. I'm sure the crucial US site has the same search engine.
Hope this helps,
Paul

  • My Mac Book Pro has just had a new memory and solid state drive installed. After the installation, the Lightroom tools all became grey. There is no longer any color on the screen other than my picture. Even the color sliders are grey.  Can you please help

My MacBook Pro just had a new memory and solid state drive installed. Since the installation, the Lightroom tools are now all grey. Even the color sliders are grey. Please help!

My guess is that your operating system got updated to Mavericks and that you are running an old version of Lightroom:
Sliders are white, look different | Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks
Be aware of a Lightroom bug with color management in mavericks that makes shadows too deep in the Develop module: Jao's photo blog: Serious color management bug in Mac OS 10.9 "Mavericks" and Jao's photo blog: Further quantification of the Mavericks color management problem.

  • I have a 13" mac book pro with a 250 gb solid state drive and I would like to put in a larger one is this possible

I own a Mac book Pro 13" it has a 250 gb solid state drive and I would like to put a larger one in is this possible.

You don't need to partition your drive to run Fusion, only if you want to run Bootcamp.
If you have space on your Windows partition, I would suggest you backup your Windows partition, and then, delete the partition using Disk Utility.
You can now restore your virtual machine to a single volume or repartition if you prefer.
I would consider upgrading to a unibody MBP (used, refurbished will do) just to be able to access the HD. Opening the pre-unibody MBP is not something you would want to do.

  • How do I know if I have a Solid State Drive?

  • Can I replace my 250Gb SATA HD in my 2008 aluminum MacBook with a new SATA3 Solid State Drive?

I would like to replace my 250Gb SATA HD in my 2008 aluminum MacBook with a 500Gb SATA3 SSD. I want to do it because of the age and to increase capacity, access speed and reliability. Is SATA3 backwards compatible to SATA? Should I save some money and just stick to a regular SATA higher capacity HD and forget about a SSD?

I replaced the hard drive in my early 2009 model with a Samsung 840 ssd. My book has the same sata interface as yours and accepted the newer drive without a hitch. It's the best $160 I've ever spent on a computer upgrade. My macbook feels like a new machine. I would highly recommend it.

  • X200 SSD (Solid State Drive) with clean-install of Vista or XP?

    Hi all,
I apologize for starting a new thread on a new forum; however, I am running out of research time.
I am about to buy a X200 with the 64GB SSD (Solid State Drive) (and it needs to be bought by tomorrow Can I ask couple questions? :
    1) I am legally using this for business purposes with an MSDN license, so I can and will install any clean OS immediately. With the option to install any Windows OS; which will work best [or at all] with the SSD? (I have read conflicting articles, but most are outdated due to SSD's being so new.)
    2) With only the SSD and without a MediaBase, I read several guides such as This Thread on this Forum on how "fun" a clean install can be...are there any extra difficulties with the SSD?
I am a software engineer and would normally piece this together my research; however, I am running out of time before I have to decide if the SSD is a viable and installable option at this time (and if I should buy it!)
    Thanks a lot!

    Hello to all.
I'd like to know why AHCI mode is being suggested to use for SSD's?  Please tell me why. I just don't understand. I think using Raid 0 Array would be the better choice. How does AHCI mode vary compaired to Raid 0 ?  Is AHCI a better Mode? Does it give better performance then Raid 0?
I see alot of you are having problems setting up SSD's.  I have read the first thing you need to do is make sure the firmware on any SSD you use should be updated.
I also see a lot of people here talking about the need to install Raid drivers.  This is true with all other OS's, but I have found that after a fresh format, even on a new HD, I just installed Win 7 64 bit ultimate I went right into device manager to see what drivers are needed, & to my surprise all the drivers were already installed, including Raid driver & controller. I set up my Raid 0 Array at the F10 prompt, rebooted with OS disk with master drive after setting up boot sequence, & continued from there no problem with 2 150GB Raptor HD's in Raid 0.
I have gone as far as to use a Western Digital HD CD utility disc that has a write zero utility & used it to fast write zero's to the first 63 tracks & sectors including track 0 sector 0 where the MBR is written, & I've reformatted & reinstalled Win 7 from that point, & all the drivers still get auto installed. You can go right into device manager & see for your self. The only driver I ever need my be a sound driver update & Graphics driver.  I'm not forgetting that the drivers that are auto installed are generic & may need updating, but what I'm saying is, I haven't seen any yellow question marks or exclamation points in device manager like you do with other OS's before Win 7.

  • Have Linksys WRT54GS Got a new laptop with vista having problems

I have been using this wireless router for a while works great. I got my wife a new laptop with vista can conect with limited conectivity (excelent signal). Can not use any online programs. How do i fix this problem?

"limited connectivity" ca be due to incorrect n/w key u r typing.
if u have an securtiy enabled conection, when u r trying to connect on vista laptop, plz type the correct n/w key.if there is any confusion oen setup page and chck the ifo from there.
if this doesn't work, u mght have to upgrade f/w of WRT54GS from www.linksys.com as win vista sometimes requires the latest f/e and drivers to connect properly

My macbook was working great with airport express. Once I bought the new dell laptop with Vista it stopped connecting to airport whenever the Dell is on. Once I switch the Dell off, my macbook immediately connects with airport. The Dell never has any prob trying to connect. • Trying to update iTunes on a laptop with Vista.

A friend is trying to update iTunes on a laptop with Vista. She gets this: Error writing to file: C:\Config.Msi.\78efb0.rbf. Verify that you have access to that directory.
I thought maybe it was an issue with Administrator privileges, but she's the only user on the computer. The file does not already exist in the root directory. (I was thinking of deleting it.) I googled it and got nothing. Any ideas?
    Thanks.

    No problem.
If there is Kaspersky on board, we should try some general-principles getting-past-security-software-interference troubleshooting.
Download and save a fresh copy of the iTunesSetup.exe (32-bit installer file) or iTunes64Setup.exe to your Hard drive. (Don't run the install on line, and don't start the install just yet.)
    http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
Restart the PC. After the PC restarts do not open any applications. Disconnect from your network and/or the internet. Now switch off all your security software (firewall, antivirus, antispyware).
Now start the install by doubleclicking the iTunesSetup.exe (or iTunes64Setup.exe) file you downloaded earlier.
Reenable all security software prior to reconnecting to your network and/or the internet.
Any better luck with the security software shut down?

  • Is there a driver available for the hp laserjet 1160le to download for my laptop with vista os?

I have an HP LaserJet 1160Le with wired connection to a Dell laptop with Vista OS.  The driver I have will not allow me to print more than one page at a time from most software programs I use including MS Word, Adobe Reader9, WordPerfect, and Photoshop Elements 9.
No driver update seems to be available on HP website.  Please advise.

According to this Apple article, a driver for your HP LJ 3800 is available from Apple. So what should happen is when you add the printer to the Mac, the supporting driver should be downloaded from Apple and installed.
Is the printer being connected to the Mac via USB cable or is it networked?

  • Crossing HP Pavilion laptop with Vista to Toshiba NB205-N210 with XP? Usefulness of Bluetooth.

Is there a conflict in crossing over files from HP Pavilion laptop with Vista to Toshiba NB205-N210 with XP? Is Bluetooth necessary (or useful) on a Toshiba? I have Bluetooth on my Hp Pavilion.

A crossover network cable is one that is designed to connect two computers to each other through the LAN port without using a router.  It sounds like you don't have any sort of home network to work from or have any experience in networking.  Instead of wasting a lot of time posting methods that you might not be able to use why don't you start by telling us what networking methods you have available, if any.
Also, do you have an external USB hard drive?  That might be easier to use for this.
Lastly, how much data are we talking about?  That would have a large bearing on how we should go about this.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

I had a repair done on my MacBook Pro and had to have a new hard drive installed. The Apple Auth Repair Shop then updated the OS from 10.6.8 to 10.7.5. Now my iPhoto v 9.2.3 will not open and it sounds like it will not work with this OS. Can you please advise?

You may need many other updates to retain compatibility with Lion. I suggest you reinstall Snow Leopard. Unfortunately, you will need to erase the drive first. Be sure to backup your data if you haven't done so already.
    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
Be sure to make a backup first because the following procedure will erase
the drive and everything on it.
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc or the Disc 1 that came
with your computer.  Insert the disc into the optical drive and restart the computer.
After the chime press and hold down the  "C" key.  Release the key when you see
a small spinning gear appear below the dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, click on Options button
and select GUID, click on OK, then set the format type to MacOS Extended
(Journaled, if supported), then click on the Apply button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. After you finish Setup Assistant will complete the installation after which
you will be running a fresh install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process
by opening Software Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your
             installation current.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.

  • Solid State Drive Upgrade Kit v300a with Windows 8.1 on Envy laptop

I am trying to install the Solid State Drive Upgrade Kit V300a in my new HP Envy with Windows 8.1. This upgrade was listed as an option for this model  and was bought with the machine.
The doc lists OS supported, but Windows 8 is not in the list. Is Windows 8 supported?
The included disk labled "Arconis" includes ATIHO user guide pdfs and an HP-Drive-Install-Guide-1.15.13-327pm pdf. The install guide mentions using Arconis. The Arconis user guide says to run "setup" to install Acronis but there is no setup file on the disk. I have chosen the setting to display hidden files and there is nothing on the disk but pdfs. The v300a box claims that it includes Acronis Cloning Software.
How do I install this HP upgrade on my new HP laptop?

  • Can I use a solid state drive (SSD) with a G4 1 GHz powerbook? If so, how do I do it?

    Hi:
Can I use a solid state drive (SSD) with a G4 1 GHz powerbook? If so, how do I do it? Thanks.
    fromx001

fromx001 I believe you can use a SSD as internal drive, of course make sure to buy an ide/ata. There are all sorts of sizes up to 480 GB also in the ide/ata standard. You should however research carefully your purchase, as the performances of your SSD are going to have to rely on firmware "garbage collection", as the older operating systems haven't been written with SSD in mind.
Mac Man JW: some people depend on Classic as a brody said, other people need a phone modem from time to time, other people use the laptop in harsh environments, and at -15C and below, LCD screens easily crack and break; NOT the powerbook which has hot air towards the screen (and it's a machine that heats quite a lot). My alu Powerbook 12", which was *not* treated with velvet gloves, only once had a cracked screen: a cleaning lady had stepped over it (!!!!) no joke. And in normal / light use today, it is still pretty decent and usable.
