Can  A imovie file in DV-Pal) bre uploaded to youtube

I am making a video for youtube and I imported some .avi video footage into iMovie HD as DV -PAL. In the meantime I forgot to reset it back to NTSC before I imported the footages. I now have the footages in Pal only as I trashed the original footage from my camera ( very careless). Can I still upload the video as DV-PAL for youtube ?

I believe the solution you are looking for is handled by YouTube. When you upload the video to youtube you'll see a "upload in progress" page. This page will give you the option to provide a "Title of the Video", meta-data key word tags, allow you to select a category of the video, and provide a summary of what the video is about (Evidence exists about ancient space aliens!). The **default** to your Title of the Video is what the video is called on your hard drive but you can change it.
I *think* - if I'm interpreting your question, this is what you are asking.

  • Choosing NTSC or PAL for uploading to YouTube

I'm trying to upload a movie shot in NTSC to YouTube butonly see choices for PAL resolution.  How can I bring up NTSC choices?

If you're uploading to YouTube, it shouldn't make a difference. YouTube ultimately uses web-based formats that are neither PAL or NTSC.

  • IMovie Message appears when trying to upload to Youtube!

Well i made a video and everytime i click on "Share" And Click "Youtube" i get a message saying
"The following Event used in this project is not currently available:
    Unknown Album
The portions of the project which reference this Event will show black frames."
Im not using a Camcorder. Its just a digital camera that i record stuff from. Its a Kodak easyshare Z740. Could this be the problem.
Also when i upload it to youtube the video is small and has black frames around it like it said.

I did change the names of the file. As far as I can tell I did do all the editing from within imovie. Is there any way for me to salvage the files so that I can still post them on youtube. All I could get posted was a real low-quality image, but the sound came out fine. Any suggestions on how to get my imovie onto youtube would be GREAT!
    I keep getting this message:
The following Event used in this project is not currently available:

  • Can not open iMovie files

I have a strange problem. I just got a new Intel iMac. I moved all my files over tot he new system, no problem. On my old system, I kept some files out side of the users folder so my wife and I can both access them (iTunes, iDVD, iMove, etc)
I have been running like this years with out issue. But the new system seems to have problems with this arrangement. The problem is limited to iMovie, and limited to my wife account (not scoring any point here ).
I keep these “shared” project files in users folder, but outside of any home folder. So the folders look like this.
    ~\users\iMove
    ~\users\iDVD
    ~\users\iTunes
Also under users are our individual home folders
    ~\users\sunil
    ~users\tish
When my wife tries to open a iMove file she gets an error that the disk is full or she does not have permission to write to this folder. This only happens with iMovie files, the others open fine. From my login I can open iMovie files, as well as other files.
I have checked the permission on the users folder, the iMovie folder and she seems to have rights to read and write to them. Additionally we are both Admins on the system.
Here is what I have tried already (none resolved the issue)
    • Repaired permissions on the volume
    • Verified permission, she has read/write to the folder as well are the files she is trying to open, she is also an admin.
    • Optimized the system (onyx)
    • Reapplied permission, including subfolders.
    • Moved files to another location.
    • Moved files into her home folder
    • Moved files into the shared folder.
    My Config
    Intel iMac 1.5GB
    250GB HDD (125GB) free
    OSX 10.4.7
    iLife 06
    Any ideas?

Sorry, I don't have any firm answers for this situation, but I can offer some guesses.
iMovie seems particularly sensitive to permission issues. Problems can occur when moving projects from startup disk to startup disk, as you've apparently done.
The issues are complicated by the fact that an iMovie 5/iMovie 6 project is a package, a special kind of file that behaves like a folder. The package contains other files and folders.
When you use the Get Info window to assign permissions to the package, the new permissions aren't necessarily applied to the contents of the package. Those items retain their old permission settings, which I suspect is what causes the problem for iMovie. (The Get Info window lets us apply new permissions to the CONTENTS of a folder, but that doesn't work on a package.)
To change permissions inside the package, try this:
    • In the Finder, create a duplicate of the project. Work on the copy.
    • Select the name of copy and remove the suffix ".iMovieProject" from the name. Tell the dialog window that opens to accept the change. The iMovie project icon will disappear, replaced by the normal Finder folder icon. The project will now behave like a folder.
    • Select the folder and use the Get Info window to set permissions for the folder, then press the "Apply to enclosed items" button to apply those permissions to the items it contains.
    • Re-select the name of the folder and add back the suffix ".iMovieProject". When you accept the change, the folder icon will change back into an iMovie project icon.
    • Try opening the project in iMovie. With luck, everything will now work.
When using an external disk to store projects, another solution is to use the Get Info window (for the disk) to set the disk to ignore permissions.

  • How do I convert an iMovie file to an mp4 so I can upload it to YouTube?

I just created my first iMovie in the latest version and I need to upload it to Youtube.  When I try to do that, it gives me the message that it is not in a supported file... I need to convert it to an mp4 or something similar.   I am totally new to the latest version of iMovie and cannot figure out how to convert my file.  Any help would be appreciated.  I watched a tutorial on YouTube and when the guy shared his iMovie to a file on his desktop, it automatically transferred as an mp4 file.  Mine is a TS folder?   Help!

iMovie will not have created a video file with the .ts extension.  To share your iMovie 10 project to Youtube you should not have to do any conversion - just follow the instructions at:
    http://help.apple.com/imovie/mac/10.0/#move0470816c
(If you share to file it will create a .mp4 file which you could then upload to YouTube but the instructions above shares direct to YouTube).

  • IMovie file size explosion

My first iMovie project was a video of my nieces and nephews compiled from old VHS and Hi8 tape imported to my Sony DV camcorder, edited on my iMac using iMovie 4, then burned to a disk using iDVD (it was about a 40 minute movie). I showed it to my siblings an parents over the holidays and it was a big hit (except for an audio syncronization issue). After showing the video, my sister gave me an old VHS tape from 1990-91 that I had been searching for. I still had the original iMovie project on my hard drive, so I went back into the original project and added about 8 mintues of video imported from that old VHS tape. I also added some additional music tracks from iTunes and, at the end of the movie, as my last music track was playing out after the credits, I added 17 still photos of family from iPhoto. I then tried to drag the updated iMovie project to iDVD, but got an error message saying "operation unsupportable by iDVD" or words to that effect. On a hunch, I checked the file size of the updated iMovie project under the "get information" tab and it said the file was 10.2 GB!! I had not checked the file size of "version 1" of the project before I burned it, but when I checked the file size of the DVD to which it was burned, it said it was 2.7 GB, well within the 4.7 GB limit of a DVD-R. How in the heck can the iMovie file size balloon from 2.7 GB to 10.2 GB just by adding 8 additional minutes of video, an iTunes song or two and 17 still photos? Anyone have an idea of what happened?!?! Thanks in advance for any light you can shed on this rather perplexing problem. (Sorry for the lengthy post)

    Lennart-
Thank you for tackling my question. You've educated me on the compression factor, which is very helpful, but that still begs the question of why I can't seem to burn my edited iMovie (48 minutes vs. the "old" 40 minutes). In other words, if iDVD was able to burn my 40 minute project (at 8.7 GB)and compress it to 2.7 GB on the DVD, shouldn't I also be able to burn a 48 minute project (10.2 GB uncompressed)? It would appear that if a 40 minute, 8.7 GB project compress to 2.7 GB on the DVD, then a 48 minute 10.2 GB iMovie file should compress to roughly 3.2 GB (if my math is correct). Isn't that within "acceptable limits?" Am I missing something here? Once again, thanks for your help (and patience).

  • Moving iMovie file

I want to create more space on my primary hard drive.
Can an iMovie file be moved to another partition or hard drive to make room without causing issues?
    Thanks.

    soulartist,
Feel free to move your project files where you like.
One caveat, if you are using an external drive (any drive for that matter) it must be formatted Mac OS Extended to work properly with iMovie.

  • Can't find imovie file on my hard drive

I have a imovie file on my hard drive that I can't find. I really want to delete it so
that I can free up some room on my hard rive. It's at least 15 gigs big. I tried using the search icon in the upper right hand corner and I tried using the 'find' option under the 'finder' menu, searching for any files over 5 gigs in size. Can anyone help me find this file so I can get rid of it?
    [email protected]

An iMovie project is a package, not a file; the actual files inside it are smaller. Use a tool such as WhatSize to locate it.

  • Cannot import movie or audio files. Can drag jpg files into imovie though.

    Hi, I recently re-installed 10.3.9 (about 2 days ago).
imovie was working just fine until i opened it this morning only to find I couldn't import anything other than picture files.
I get this message when i try.
"can't open file (insert file name here) skipping it and continuing"
When i re-open imovie i get a message telling me
"there are x amount of files that don't belong in this project would you like to move to trash"
I'm given the option to leave files alone or trash unused files.
    HELP!
    I got this response
When you reinstalled 10.3.9 did you repair permissions before and after, as well as repairing your hard disk with Disk Utility on your Install Disk?
After which I tried doing what was suggested but still have the same problem. I even tried using pacifist.
Is there an newer version of imovie available for download?

Sorry, I don't go back that far!

  • How can I copy a very large iMovie file (10.08 GB) onto a disc?

I have an imovie project of my daughters wedding and I would like to put it on a disc for her, however, it is so big ( 10.08GB) that I can't find a DVD disc big enough. I bought a 16GB USB drive thinking I could copy it to that but my iMac says that it is too big to copy. Can anyone help please?
Also is it possible to save an imove file as a different type of file? if so, how do i do it?

If you want your daughter to be able to play the movie in a DVD player, you need DVD authoring software. Get a copy of iDVD (discontinued but you can still find copies of the old iLife09 or iLife11 package that include iDVD) or Roxio Toast.
Export your iMovie project to a QuickTime movie file, then import the resulting QT movie into iDVD or Toast and create your DVD.  They will encode & compress your movie to fit on a DVD and be playable in a DVD player.
Note: you can fit up to about 2 hours of video on a single-layer DVD disk and up to about 4 hours on a dual-layer DVD disk.  The iMovie project file size is not the correct measure here, the length in time of the video is.

  • Can Frontrow Open Files in iMovie?

The iMovie is in the "Movies" folder but does not show when I use the remote control. I can open all my slideshows form iPhoto through the remote control.
    Thanks,
    Carlos Marques

    Hi Carlos,
The iMovie file in your Movies folder is actually a package that contains all the elements that make up your iMovie. You can see what I mean if you right click the file and choose 'Show Package Contents'.
To view the iMovie in Front Row you will need to export it as a Quicktime movie. Open the file in iMovie and choose File/Export from the menu bar - a dialog box will open. Select the Quicktime option from the top and decide which compression (quality) you want to use. Click Share, give it a name and make sure it's saved in the Movies folder. Depending on how large the movie is and which compression you choose, it may take quite some time to do the export. Once done, you should be able to view the exported movie in Front Row.
    Hope that helps.

  • Can't import file to imovie

I purchased a video animation and downloaded fil, no problem, I can watch the file just fine in quicktime, (PRO)but when I try to import it into my imovie project it says it can't open the file. My question is the file I downloaded is 3802.MOV, is that the problem? The.MOV instead of .mov? The lady where I purchased the download from told me to save the file as.... 3802.mov and there would not be a problem. Is she correct?

Sounds like either the movie file is corrupt or is some proprietary format that resists export. If this is the only file you have problems exporting then perhaps you need to contact the place you purchased it from for information or to try a new download. If you have problems with other files then you may need to re-install Quicktime.
Just for the sake of curiosity could you open the source file in QT Player and check MovieInfo in the Window menu to see what formats were used to make it. That may give us some clue as to what is going on with the file.

  • Unreadable project in imovie HD...how can i recover files?!

sorry for my very bad english.
i've just bought few days ago ilife 06 cause i needed imovie HD....in 5 days working on a new project i had lots of problems: the program was crashing most of the time i was trying to add transitions to some photos...no problem with the .avi files i was working on, lots of problems with the stills. and then half an our ago the program did not allowed me anymore to save the project...then when trying to add a transition the program crushed, and when i've tried to open back the project there was a note saying that the project is ureadable....when this use to happen with previous versions od imovie it wad easy...just copying the Media files...but in these new imovie Hd there are no project folders.....i have to solve this problem in no more than 2 days....i have a very important deadline and i really don't know what to do....please somebody help me!!! i'm desperate!!

The iMovie 6 project has changed from what it was in iMovie 4 and earlier. Instead of saving the project inside a folder, the project is saved inside a Finder "package". A package is a special kind of folder that looks and acts like a file, but it can hold other files and folders.
To look inside the project package, Control-click on the package in the Finder and choose "Show Package Contents" from the popUp menu. A window will open showing the files and folders inside the package. The Media folder is the same as the Media folder of earlier projects.
    • There are two project files in the package. One is the current version of the project, the one you last saved. The other, which has a tilde character (~) in its name, is a backup. It's the project as it was BEFORE you last saved. When you saved, the previous version of the project file was stored in the file with the tilde.
You may be able to use that tilde file to rescue the project. How to is described here:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=2318851#2318851
    • If that doesn't work, double-click on the "Timeline Movie.mov" that's inside the "Cache" folder. It will open in QuickTime Player. If it plays okay you can import it to a new iMovie 6 project. Everything from Project A will be imported as a single clip into Project B.
    • The problems you have suggest something is wrong with iMovie 6 on your Mac. There are several possibilities. 1) The disk format is wrong for the disk the project resides on; 2) There are third-party iMovie plug-ins and QuickTime add-ons that are creating problems for iMovie, perhaps software you used in an earlier version of iMovie.
To check for these problems, see this note:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=2920540#2920540
    Good luck!
