Can a java program be run in the background?

Hi all,
Can a java program be run in the background without the user being aware of it? I need to make a program that continuosly monitors a pc at regular intervals and runs at all time. It should be hidden(shouldn't display on the screen while running) from the user, and also, can it be run as a system file so that even if a user checks he/she would think of it as a system file?

I'm the administrator of all the computers. Then as I said there are commercial applications that do that.
Presumably you expect a problem now. And implementing an acceptable solution is going to take you months. Because not only need to 'hide' the application, you also need to set up all the monitoring and logging capability. And the first will require quite a bit of JNI work along with testing (in particular as it could interfer with existing applications on the users computers.)
I need to
install the software in all the machines and i want
that the users who use the machine should not be able
to close the program through the task manager. If the users have admin rights then they can terminate a windows service.
And if they don't have admin rights then you can simply turn off the ability to install anything.
I want
to know what the resources of the computers are and
that if anyone has added a resource to it or
not(attaching a flash usb thumbdrive etc). Lots of JNI.

You can see which apps are open and/or recently used by double-clicking the home button to bring up the taskbar at the bottom of the screen (not all apps that appear there are active) - you can then close apps on it by pressing and holding one of them for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar. If you have an app 'open' on-screen then it won't appear on the taskbar, you will need to go back to the homescreen first, and it should then show when you next open the taskbar.

iPod touch version 4.2.1, how can I tell if programs are running in the background.  Battery is dead quickly and time/date reverts to Dec 31, 1969.  can see thin silver frame around screen like something is running in background.

You really can't tell unless you hear music or similar. Many are always listening for notifications and other things.

  • How can I determine what is running in the background on my ipad?

I have had my Ipad for 6 months.  I use wi-fi and cellular 250MB data plan.  I have never exceeded 250 MB in a month.  This month I ran out of data in 5 days.  Also, I usually get a couple of days before I have to recharge.  Now I need to recharge in less than a day.  The only thing I can think is something is running in the background.  Is there a way to see what is running in the background (this is my first apple product, I have always used windows products so I am not sure I am using the apple nomenclature),  I have rebooted so I will see if that fixes the problem.  I am curious to see what is happening in the background

A double click on the Home button will reveal a tray containing all apps that are currently running (suspended?).
Side swiping this will reveal as many as are active, with a swipe to the right when on the first display will reveal further controls for the iPad, mainly relating to the iPod part, but also containing a screen lock option I believe.
Click and hold any one of them till they 'jiggle' and show a - you can then click this to remove it, relaunching the app as required in the normal way.

How do I stop programs from running in the background?  In the old system you could delete them.

Most of those apps aren't running in the background, but what you are asking is how to close the apps.
To close an app in iOS 7, drag the app up from the multitasking display. Double tap the home button and you will see apps lined up going left to right across the screen. Swipe to get to the app that you want to close and then swipe "up" on the app preview thumbnail to close it.

  • Read the names of the files in ABAP program that runs in the background

    Hello,
I have a program that uploads information from file on application server.
What I can't figure still is how to get the <b>names </b>of the files that are in <b>specific directory</b>.
There is an other application that will post those files into this directory. I wont to get file names and file types from this directory and put it into an internal table.
File names are changing based on date and version.
Please keep in mind that the program runs in the background, (presentation server is not included in the process)
    Thanks in advance,

  • How do I close programs/applications running in the background

My computer Mac Pro is getting slow.  The wheel runs and runs.  I took it in to Apple at one time and they coded a bunch of files that were running in the background, thus slowing the computer.  How do I do this myself?

Pls share ur ideasAs kajbj said - you need to store a token / file with a run date on the file system. Each time the application runs, have it compare with the date from this file with the current date. If different, it's the first run of the day. If not, it is not the first run of the day. Each time have it update the date on the file.

not sure whats wrong with this build.xml ? whats wrong in it ?
one thing , i guess, i did not mention "." , current directory in the build.xml ......is it because of that ?
i browsed apache manual......To Run a Java program.....first, they are making a JAR file ...and then they are executing the JAR.
i really, dont need the JAR file......i just want to run it.....thats enough.
somewhere, i have to do some modification in this buld.xml.......do you have any idea ?
    thank you

    TestClient folder has
    1)src
    2)classes
    3)build.xml
i have posted the build.xml already.
    now, src folder has TestClient.java
    TestClient.java

           System.out.println("Sent 'Hello!', got '" + ret + "'");

           System.err.println(e.toString());
    }and i did
ant runand i got those errors.
clearly, its not able to run it.
looked the manual....did not find anything special about java task....still not working.

  • How can I tell which apps or programs are open at any time. At a recent visit to the Genius at my local Apple store, the "Genius" told me that too many apps or programs are running in the background. I'm using Mountain Lion on a McBook Pro

I was told that my Mac has to work extra hard because there are too many apps and/or programs open in the background. How can one tell what is open?? It must be something which is not normally visible to the user??
    Hans

Thanks, I have looked at that several times but I can't detect any one item which would indicate overusage. The small chart (indicator bars) are much on the low side and the onse which show are basically green? Not sure what the person at the Genius Bar saw so I'm somewhat puzzled.

  • IPad 3 I can't turn off apps running in the background like I could before

Hi updated to new os a few days ago and now I can't seem to turn off all the apps I've opened.  I use to press the button twice then hold my finger on an app and they would start jiggling so I could delete them.  This is running very slow now.  Any one out there know the new trick.

Double tap the Home button, then slide upwards on the App Preview (not the App Icon). Tap the Home button again to return to normal screen.

  • Field catalogue for ALV Grid when program is run in the background

    Hi All,
I have an ALV report that contains approx 27 fields.  Not all of these fields will be relevant for different Users, and many will want to change the order the fields appear in.
When running on line the User can set a variant to present the data as they wish.  However, I need to email this report to the SAP Inbox with the fields displayed in the same Order with uncessary fields hidden as stated in the Field Catalogue.
On-line none of this is an issue, however GET_FRONTEND_FIELDCATALOG cannot be used in Background, and attribute MT_FIELDCAT_LOCAL is Private and cannot be accessed.
I have looked at using Class CL_ ALV_VARIANT to try to read the Variant being used, but couldn't get the information about the Variant coming back, instead I get an error in CL_ALV_VARIANT->LOAD_VARIANT.
Can anybody recommend how to the Field Cat for a Variant for background processing?
    Thanks,
    Tony.

    Hi.
You can not use an ALV report in Background or write to spool because it is a kind of dialog program.
You can write only  a List report to spool so please find others sulotions.
    Hope it helps.

  • How do I stop unnecessary programs from running in the background on a Macbook Pro 2010?

Hi recently I bought a Macbook Pro OSX 10.8.3 2010 (2.4 GHz Intel Core / 2GB 1067 MHz DDR3). Im pretty content with it considering its my first Mac. Up until recently I had no problems with its speed.
My brother directed me to the activity monitor and showed me how to quit a program. However there are still a several running programs I do not recognize and/or do not use (such as photo stream, Calendar Agent, UserEventAgent, Notification Center, AppleSpell service, cfprefsd, talagent, xpcd, imagent, com.apple.dock.extra, fontd, loginwindow, SystemUIServer, tccd, usernoted etc etc etc UGH!! The list just goes on and on. There is a circular graph at the bottom in pir form highlighted with the colors green, red, blue and yellow indicating what is taking up space or speed? If I quit Safari a huge portion of the green is highlghted. but I can not seem to get it to fill the majority of the pie graph. I see there are all these running programs (most of which I do not use or recognize) but I cannot get them to quit even if I highlight it. How can I stop this? Quite frankly its so frustrating. Again I am new to Mac.
    Thanks

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
Otherwise, take the steps below when you notice the problem.
    Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in and Writes out.)
    Step 2
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

I am wondering if it is possible to create a java program that runs in the background on a mobile phone. I.E can it run without beeing interuppted by a call or the locking of the key pad.
Is it possible to let the program run without interfering with the normal functionallity of the phone?

There are very few legitimate problem domains that would require what you are asking about. There are illegitimate ones though. And the legitimate ones would generally require someone with quite a bit of programming experience and would also be required (the fact that java can't do it would not get rid of the requirement.)
Thus one might make assumptions about your intentions.
