Can a Nexus 1000v be configured to NOT do local switching in an ESX host?

Before the big YES, use an external Nexus switch and use VN-Tag. The question is when there is a 3120 in a blade chassis that connects to the ESX hosts that have a 1000v installed on the ESX host. So, first hop outside the ESX host is not a Nexus box.
Looking for if this is possible, if so how, and if not, where that might be documented. I have a client who's security policy prohibits switching (yes, even on the same VLAN) within a host (in this case blade server). Oh and there is an insistance to use 3120s inside the blade chassis.
Has to be the strangest request I have had in a while.
Any data would be GREATY appreciated!

Thanks for the follow up.
So by private VLANs, are you referring to "PVLAN":
"PVLANs: PVLANs are a new feature available with the VMware vDS and the Cisco Nexus
1000V Series. PVLANs provide a simple mechanism for isolating virtual machines in the
same VLAN from each other. The VMware vDS implements PVLAN enforcement at the
destination host. The Cisco Nexus 1000V Series supports a highly efficient enforcement
mechanism that filters packets at the source rather than at the destination, helping ensure
that no unwanted traffic traverses the physical network and so increasing the network
bandwidth available to other virtual machines"

  • Help needed to configure H-REAP with local switching

    Hi All,
We are using following devices for campus Wi-fi.
    1. WLC - 4402
    2. AP (1131ag, 1042n) which support H-REAP.
I want to configure HREAP central auth and local switching. I have enabled from local to HREAP after that I go to HREAP tab and native vlan 1 (by default)(I have changed native vlan 1 to 51.) vlan support is enabled. then click on vlan mapping and my wlan (guestwlan) is there with vlan id 24.
I have assigned static IP to AP (192.168.51.40/24 gw 192.168.51.254).
    DHCP is running on controller.
    switch port configure is below:
    interface FastEthernet0/18
    description WiFi access point
    switchport trunk native vlan 51
    switchport mode trunk
    no ip address
    end
Issue : authentication done through RADIUS (Cisco ACS 4.2) but no getting IP address from DHCP.
    Please help.
    Thanks in Adv.
    Thanks,
    AS

    Hi AS,
Do not use the DHCP on the WLC.
Use a DHCP on the neighbor swtich if possible for the native VLAN.

  • Nexus M1 Series 32 port 10G Module Local Switching Support ?

    Hi,
Ive got d 32 port M1 series linecard asic architecture slide below.
There seems to be a local fabric asic on this M1 series card. Anyone knows whether if this module supports local switching and what is the capacity of local switching ?
We are all aware that this module sits 80G on the chassis fabric modules.
    Thanks.

4:1 mux is downstream from replication ASIC which has total 10Gb toward each front panel port-group. So correct you can never put more than 10Gbit/s in/out combined across the ports in one port-group.
As an example say ports 1,3,5,7 each receive 10Gbit/s unicast for ports 9,11,13,15 (1->9, 3->11, ..) The port-group only has 10Gbit/s upwards so incoming excess is dropped at mux and depending on packet ordering you'd get around 2.5Gbit/s out on each port 9,11,13,15.
This is why the module has an 80Gb fabric connection, as there is only 80Gb from replication down to front-panel ports the fabric ASIC will never see more than 80Gbit/s so doesn't need any more channels.
    Cheers,
    /Phil

  • Can the Magic Mouse be configured to not spring open files?

The Magic Mouse I received with my PowerMac springs open files, that is clicking once opens every single file. I am constantly having to close files that have automatically opened. It's a real interruption of the work-flow. Is there any way to stop this from happening. There seems is no remedy for this in Preferences.

Thank you for your response and it turns out you are on the right track. After posting the question, I went back once again to the Magic Mouse preferences and where I had set the double mouse click speed to slow, thinking that might prevent files from sprining open, I turned the double click speed up to the fastest setting. Now the files don't automatically launch on single click. I'm a bit slow I guess, I was thinking the opposite way. Now of course I have to click like a banshee to get the darn thing to open, but it's better that way. I'll fiddle with the setting... Thanks again.

  • HT5622 iPad 3 and my sound has stopped from speakers, but can get from headphones.  It's not the side switch and the volume is max in all areas.  Anyone got any ideas, what problem is and how to fix it thanks

    Hi,
My iPad has just stopped working with sound from the speakers, it works fine with the headphones in.  The soft mute button is not made and the volume is at max.
Any ideas what problem is and how to sort.  Thanks

System sounds can be muted from the software switch in the task bar as well as from the side switch depending on how you have it set up. This my boilerplate resonse for sound issues.
    1. If you have no sound at all, even in the Music App, try rebooting the iPad.
Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.
    2. If you lost sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.
This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085
    3. If you still have no sound at all - except when using headphones ....try cleaning the dock connector opening of the iPad with a soft brush and just a little bit of rubbing alcohol.

  • Cisco Nexus 1000v VXLAN don't work

    Hi to all,
I configured VXLAN configuration by the book (Cisco Nexus 1000V VXLAN Configuration Guide, Release 4.2(1)SV1(5.1)), but there is some problem.
There are two ESXs with four VMs (two VMs on each ESX). Each VM has one NIC and that NIC is assigned to a port-profile configured for same VXLAN bridge-domain access. There is connectivity between VMs on same ESX but there is no connectivity between VMs hosted on different ESXs. In other words, L2 connectivity works between VMs on same ESX but not between VMs on different ESXs.
Nexus 1000V VSM is installed on Nexus 1010 Appliance and manages two VEMs through L3 control interfaces.
VSM version is 4.2(1)SV1(5.1) and VEM feature level is 4.2(1)SV1(5.1).
Bridge-domain is VXLAN-5001 with segment id 5001 and group address 239.1.1.1
Port-profile for VMK VXLAN interface is properly configured for access to VLAN 588 ("transport" VLAN for VXLAN) and capability vxlan.
VLAN 588 is allowed on all uplinks on both sides (Nexus and physical switch).
Port profile for VMs if properly configured for access to bridge-domain.
I was create a monitor session for VLAN 588 on upstrean switch (Cisco 6513 with 12.2(18)SXF14 IOS) and  did't see any multicast, unicast or any other traffic. According to documentation, first I shuld to see IGMP join, after that multicast and after that unicast traffic between two VMK interfaces.
Here is MAC address table for bridge-domain VXLAN-5001:
    Nexus1000V-VSM-1# sh mac address-table bridge-domain VXLAN-5001
    Bridge-domain: VXLAN-5001
MAC Address       Type    Age       Port            IP Address     Mod
    --------------------------+-------+---------+---------------+---------------+---
              0050.56a3.0009    static  0         Veth6           0.0.0.0         3
              0050.56a3.000a    static  0         Veth7           0.0.0.0         3
              0050.56a3.0007    static  0         Veth4           0.0.0.0         4
              0050.56a3.0008    static  0         Veth5           0.0.0.0         4
    Total MAC Addresses: 4
As you can see, there is no proper destination IP addresses.
    Can somebody help me?

Good hint, but it seems that is not the problem...
Cat ports connecting VEMs support jumbo frames and their MTU is set to 9216B.
I saw that MTU on Ethernet interfaces of VEMs is set to 1500B, I changed uplink port-profile and set MTU to first to 1550B, and after that to 9000B (max), but thing still isn't working.
I'm not using vCloud director, just VMware vSphere 4.1 (vCenter Server with VUM, vCenter Client and two ESX hosts).
Message was edited by: Mate Grbavac
After little research I found something strange... I setted up SVI on Cat in Vlan 588 ("transport" VLAN for VXLAN) and when I ping VMKernel interface (with capabilitiy vxlan) with packet size more than 1500B and df bit set I have no reply. My Cat ports and UpLink port profiles are configured for jumbo frames. Is it possible to change MTU of VMKernel interface?

  • Nexus 7010 and ESX Host

    Hi,
We are currently seeing issues on a ESX Host using 10G Fibre dual connectivity to a pair of Nexus 7010's using vPC for the port channel to this ESX host which was working fine , up to this weekend. No changes had been made on the Nexus or ESX host.
We have changed the hardware path for the believed fault on a vmnic which when part of the virtual switch cause VM's on the Host to stop pinging, although we still see a CDP neighborship with the ESX from the Nexus, but changing fibre and Nexus ports has not worked.
As part of the testing , the vmware guy was removing this 'faulty' vmnic from the Virtual switch , which is part of an ether channel bundle his end. My first question is, how does the Nexus detect a link leaving the bundle for the ESX host , when the actual physical link is still up , and all they have done is software removed it from on the ESX, as the Nexus will still attempt to push traffic across both bundled links. I know there is the Cisco 1000V software , which can be used at an extra price, but is this the only option.
Any help will be gladly welcome.

    Hi
How the switch detects a link 'moving out' of the Etherchannel would depend on how you have configured it...
If you have used 'channel-group x mode on' under the physical ports in the channel, then it will not detect the change, and you will get problems. The solution is to ensure the config of the channel on both ends (server/switch) is consistent in this case. An inconsistent config will cause you connectivity issues.
If the switch automatically negotiates the Etherchannel (i.e. you are using LACP, and the server supports LACP) then it should detect the change.
    Regards
    Aaron

for some reason my vsm can't the the vem. I could before, but then my server crashed without doing a copy run start and when it booted up all my config but the uplinks was lost.
When I tried to configure the connection again it wasn't working.
I'm also attaching a screen capture of the vds
and a capture of the regular switch.
I will appreciate very much any help you could give me and will provide any configuration details that you might need.
    Thank you so much.

    Carlos,
Looking at vds.jpg, you do not have any VEM vmkernel interface attached to port-profile L3-VSM. So fix VSM-VEM communication problem, you either migrate your VEM management vmkernel interface to L3-VSM port-profile of the vds, or create new VMkernel port on your VEM/host and attach it to L3-VSM port-profile.

  • Nexus 1000v repo is not available

    Hi everyone.
Cisco Yum repo for nexus 1000v is not available at the moment. I am wondering, is it Ok and Cisco finished it experiment with free Nexus1k or I need to contact someon (who?) to ask him to fix this problem.
PS Link to the repo: https://cnsg-yum-server.cisco.com/yumrepo

Let's set the record straight here - to avoid confusion.
    1. VEMs will continue to forward traffic in the event one or both VSM are unavailable - this requires the VEM to remain online and not reboot while both VSMs are offline. VSM communication is only required for config changes (and LACP negociation prior to 1.4)
    2.  If there is no VSM reachable, and a VEM is reboot, only then will the System VLANs go into a forwarding state.  All other non-system VLANs will remain down. This is to faciliate the Chicken & Egg theory of a VEM being able to initially communicate with a VSM to obtain its programming.
The ONLY VLANs & vEth Profiles that should be set as system vlans are:
    1000v-Control
    1000v-Packet
    Service Console/VMkernel for Mgmt
    IP Storage (iSCSI or NFS)
Everything else should not be defined as a system VLAN including VMotion - which is a common Mistake.
**Remember that for a vEth port profile to behave like a system profile, it must be define on BOTH the vEth and Eth port profiles.  Two factor check.  This allows port profiles that maybe are not critical, yet share the same VLAN ID to behave differently.
There are a total of 16 profiles that can include system VLANs.  If you exceed this, you can potentially run into issues with the Opaque data pushed from vCenter is truncated causing programming errors on your VEMs.  Adhering to the limitations above should never lead to this situation.

    Robert

  • Configuring Tacacs with Nexus 1000v

    Hi Experts,
Does anyone share a sample configuration of AAA (Tacacs+) with Nexus 1000v? I have found some documents, but it only covers authentication, no one document found that can cover authorization, and accounting in detail with Nexus 100v.

  • Parser Error Message: It is an error to use a section registered as allowDefinition='MachineToApplication' beyond application level. This error can be caused by a virtual directory not being configured as an application in IIS.

I've copied a .NET application from an older 2008 server running IIS 7.0.600.16386 to a newer 2008 R2 server running 7.5.7600.16385.  The .NET framework version is 4.0.30319.  I've setup an application pool and copied the wwwroot directory.
I've checked for nested web.config files and I've been reading a lot about converting the site to an application.  The older server running the application is still up and running and the configurations look identical.  If I convert the site to an
application the icon changes and doesn't look like it does on the old server.  I'm new and still learning the basics of programming and publishing applications.  Can someone point me in the right direction?  I've been on google for a few days
    to no avail.  Thanks.

  • If we got Nexus 1000V from VMWARE , can we add the N1K to our CCO ( Cisco Account ) to have direct support from Cisco

    Hi
If we got Nexus 1000V from VMWARE , can we add the N1K to our CCO ( Cisco Account ) to have direct support from Cisco
as sometimes it take some more time to get answer from VMWARE -> Cisco
    Thanks

No.  When you purchase support from Vmware, they are your support contact and they will escalate support to Cisco on your behalf if needed.  This is the case for all OEM support.  Cisco provides support for RHEL, Microsoft and VMware.  We follow the same practice.
Deciding who to purchase support from is a decision of single point of contact for all VMware & N1K related issues vs. maintaining separate support contracts with each vendor individually.

Hello, my mail is gone and I can't find it anywhere. Its not in library and I have not configured Time Machine yet. Help please?!

Use Find Any File, if the old messages might have been in a specific mailbox, to look for a file by the name of the mailbox to see if there are any larger versions of that mailbox.
    http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/
If your Mail is indeed gone, you may be able to recover it with one of the data recovery tools here:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-1689
But act quickly.  Every action while the computer is turned on weakens its chances of recovery.  There is a slim chance also your email provider may have tape backup from before you checked your messages and after it arrived at their server for certain messages.  You may want to ask them if that might have happened.
