Can a PDF link to a database (Excel) for information to display? (or similar?)

I have a template form I created and converted to PDF. It is for houses and each house has different specs that need to be listed. I want them to be able to easily update all the specs from outside of the PDF, like with an Excel file. Is there any way this is possible? If not, is there anything similar that can be done? He is really wanting a way to do this and I cant find a way of this even being possible with a PDF.
I realize the best way is to do this is within InDesign while in creation of the template with a data connection but the person Im doing this for only has Acrobat Pro and not InDesign.

Sorry, I was thinking of a pdf page with just a photo on it. There may be a simpler and more reliable way of doing this than the one I am suggesting, but I don't know it -- copying and pasting is possible, but it's not a very reliable way to work in Acrobat and sometimes cause more problems than it solves. But if you're adventurous, first you'll need to pdf the second photo and make sure it is the same size as the one that's being replaced. Then delete the photo from the original pdf file using the touchup object tool (you have to be careful to select the whole photo because it may be there in several pieces). Copy the new photo and paste it into the original. It won't paste exactly in the same place but will need to be positioned manually. Let me know if you ever find another way.

I've always had the theory that if you put two computer power cords in a drawer they will breed and you'll end up with a lot more! My parts drawer is always full of them. They like to knot up by themselves as well! Maybe that's how they breed.

Can a PDF connect to a database which can be revised?

I have someone that wants to have a file that would have the information for a house with a photo as a template. They want the information to work with a database (Excel or something probably) that he could easily swap out or revise. My plan was to create this with InDesign which I know I can do already but is it possible to convert this to a PDF and still have that ability? If not, is there a way to add some kind of database connection to a PDF? I realize you would probably need Acrobat Pro if it is at all possible but if the Reader works at all, would like to know that also

I have done this and play my DS using my Cable/DSL connection.
Use System Preferences/Sharing.
Choose to share your Ethernet Connection to computers using Airport. I had problems when I tried to use WEP encryption and my firewall. Turn both of these off when you wish to connect to Nintendo WFC. Start the sharing to allow you to connect.
On your DS you have to do some settings too. On the Wi-Fi settings:
SSID - The name of your Airport Network that you created
WEP Key - <blank>
Auto-obtain IP - Yes
IP Address - 10.0.2.4
Subnet Mask - 255.255.255.0
Gateway - 10.0.2.1
Auto-obtain DNS - No
Primary DNS - 62.31.64.39
Secondary DNS - <blank>
These settings work for me, so good luck with your DSing.

When interactive pdf opens in browser window can the pdf links open in separate windows

Problem is the pdf works ok when it opens in the browser window, BUT the links in the pdf don't open in separate browser windows, as they do when the pdf is downloaded as a file.
If pdf links can only open in separate browser window when the pdf itself opens as a separate file, the how do I email a pdf download link on a website.

you can open PDFs as a guest user (without authentification):
1. Allow Guest Access (Admin -> Security Configuration -> Check "Allow Guest Access" and select a folder name).
2. Copy your Report into this guest folder
3. You can open the Report as PDF with a link like this:
http://(bip-server-name):9704/xmlpserver/(guest-folder-name)/(report-name)/(report-name).xdo?_xpt=0&_xf=pdf&_xmode=4(&report-parameters)

I didn't find an option to set the height of the PDF-Output for the guest user in the BIP-UI. Maybe I missed something. But you can manually edit the configuration file. It is located on your BIP server direcory in the subdirectory xmlp/XMLP/Users. Select the guest users subdirectory and edit the configuration file "user~.profile".
In this XML config file there is an entry "viewerHeight". In the Value-Tag you can enter the PDF output windows height in pixel (but unfortunaly not in % - this was the question of my original posting).

I've got a dinner riding on this. My co-worker says don't change that Illustrator .eps file - all our pdfs are linked to it! You'll mess them up!
I say - what? no way... pdf's aren't linked to external .eps files (that we imported into Quark and made pdf's) They are standalone docs. I did a test and can't replicate what he says. Using high-res print pdfs.

I've been making pdf's well over 10 years but use only a narrow set of pdf types. I know there is a range of options and things you can do with pdf's that I've never done. This co-worker is actually my boss and he's adamant this has happened to him, pissed that I'm doubting him and won't let me improve a workflow system because of it.
Maybe there is (or was in the past) some type of pdf that can link to an external file and can be changed by revising the external file?

Not directly, no. Only if that form was created in LiveCycle Designer.
It used to be possible with forms created in Acrobat as well, but Adobe

I would guess the plugin is enabled since when I use Foxfire as my browser, all pdfs download and are readable. (just doesn’t happen when I use IE as my browser, I get a blank screen with a small “x” in the upper left corner)

In my application (oracle forms application developed in-house - We are using Oracle Forms 11gR2 with WebLogic 10.3.5 ), i want to use "application user" instead of database user.
I have an application users table, actually, i have database users,and of course, menu application works with database roles (It was developed with oracle forms menu module), my question is, How i can associate my application user with database role, for reusing oracle forms menu funcionality?. It's possible?

You can do this by assigning the role functionality to the application user. For example
create the table to enter user name.
create table to enter group name.
create table to assign user to group.
assign role to group.
assign functionality for the user by coding.

Can't open links in pdf file 9.3.2

I have installed Reader 9.3.2 and all of the sudden I can't open links within a pdf file. I get a block message and it doesn't give me the option to choose Allow. When I go to Edit > Preferences > Trust Manager > Settings everything is grayed out. I had to revert back to 9.3.1 for it to work again. Does anyone know the fix for this. Our 9.3.2 install was streamlined into a 9.3.0 msi package and then installed through a GPO.

same problem here.. but I figured it out.. Believe it or not, if you just wait 5-10min it will come up. I also "End-Task" on some exe that start or had "3D"in the name and after that adobe would come up fast when opening pdf's. Think you need to disable some of the internet related items under preferences.

How can I make multiple PDF links open in the same second tab, instead of a 3rd, 4th etc.

I am working on a project for my Universities 125 year anniversary. Essentially I've created a 125 year long digital yearbook, with a link to the University's actual digital yearbook for each individual year. I'm wondering if there is a way that I can make all of the yearbook links open in the same second page.
IE: Main Project open in a window, when I click the 1939 Yearbook pdf hyperlink, the 1939pdf will open in the second window. I then want to find a way so that after this, on the main page, I can click the 1940 yearbook pdf link and have the 1940 yearbook load on the second window, replacing the 1939pdf, instead of just opening the 1940pdf on a third new tab/window?
Note: I have all of the yearbook PDF's online and downloaded, so I can make the hyperlink send you to the site, or do a download style thing.
