Can a read-only snapshot site be refreshed from a read-only database?

Hi,
Here is the database configuration.
Database 1: master site
Database 2: has materialized views (read-only snapshot site)
If DB1 becomes read-only, is it possible to refresh the materialized views in DB2? I was told that it is not possible because some m$log tables in DB1 need to be updated when the DB2 is refreshed . If it is DB1 is read-only, the meta data tables can not be updated so the refresh will fail.
Does anybody have experience with a scenario like this?

Why do you need to put the database in read only mode anyway. Why not control "readability" through security, ie roles. Then it won't really matter.

New rows become deleted from snapshot sites after refresh

Hi buddy
I am facing problem in snapshot at snapshot sites.
I have oracle 8.0.5 4 database server machines.
all servers machines have O.S windows 2000 advance server
all servers machine have same oracle version ( 8.0.5 ).
there is Site A ( Master site ) site B ( snapshot site ) Site C ( snapshot site).
snapshot has been created at all snapshots sites ( B,C and at D)
snapshot log against each table are also present at master site ( Site A )
refresh group is present at snapshot site.
these are working since feb-2002 successfully. now problem occur in these sites if some miner issues comes then it has been resolved successfully.
Replication parameter in init.ora all all sites are as follows
global_names = true
job_queue_processes = 2
job_queue_interval = 60
job_queue_keep_connections = false
distributed_lock_timeout = 60
distributed_transactions = 16
open_links = 4
snapshot_refresh_interval = 60
snapshot_refresh_keep_connections=false
snapshot_refresh_processes = 2
few days ago one problem occurs in master site A. it become crashed. we did its recovery from previous night backup ( cold backup).
Now all branches are working. but my current problem is that we have 20 tables in replication.It is a snapshot replication old version of materialized view.
when site B start refresh procedure then it show message procedure successfully completed.
it show no error message.
but when we check no of rows at snapshot site ( site b )
all new rows which were inserted at snapshot ( site b ) after previous refresh has been deleted.
mean all data which is inserted after previous refresh command has been finished. but data which is inserted at master site is present at snapshot site after refresh.
this problem is present at all the snapshot sites ( site B, Site C and site D).
database link is also present from master to snapshot site anf from snapshot to master. but problem is still suspended.
i have checked at all snapshot site and master site there is no invalid procedure or package.
there is no error message in alert file at all site.
if any body has its solution kindly told me.

This is still going on when the page fails the call to getCurrentRow().refresh(Row.REFRESH_REMOVE_NEW_ROWS) goes out to lunch and stops processing for the rest of the function. I tried adding a try catch around it but nothing is caught and the function still fails.

Do a malware check with a few malware scan programs.
You need to use all programs because each detects different malware.

I thought it was because of Lion but with snow leopard i have the same problem (On another Mac).

To check the local network for some of the common configuration problems, launch Terminal.app and issue the following diagnostic command:
sudo changeip -checkhostname
That'll report some local configuration information and then either no errors detected and no changes required, or it'll point to whatever configuration errors or issues it might detect. That doesn't catch everything, but it catches the common errors.
FWIW, 192.168.0.0/24 and 192.168.1.0/24 are poor choices for the local network, as VPNs are based on IP routing and IP routing gets tangled when the same subnet is used on both ends of the VPN. 192.168.0.0/24 and 192.168.1.0/24 are near ubiquitous in home networks and coffee shops.

I can play videos on most sites except CNN and CBS where only comercials play

I have Time Warner cable and just read that Time Warner has dropped CBS. I am assuming that CBS used a third party to push it's streaming so that would figure why CNN does not work also. I don't know. Could someone please get an answer for this so I can stop trying to fix what is not broken. I can play videos on many web sites with commercials or not except for these two.

OK, I have tried the Host rename thing, no go. I can watch on NBC, PBS, and BBC but no CBS CNN or Fox. Now I don't know about you but I find that if a Browser can play video it should be able to play all video. I tried to contact CNN and they responded with a message that is not even close to what I asked them. I fell this is a script problem. Their script that runs CNN's videos is called NO-JS. Isn't that weird? I looked and I did not have JS installed so I installed it but it did not help. I reinitialized Firefox with no add ons and no good. SO, would you feel that you were being personally blocked by these organizations? Why isn't anyone else having these problems? On Fox videos I can watch the Fox shows but not the FoxNews. One of players pops up a captions settings and when I try to set it it says it has no access to the file system. So anybody?

Can only print in 4x6 size from Adobe Reader - Help!

When printing letter sized docs using Adobe Reader, in the preview print box it says the size of my preview is 4 x 6. I can't find anywhere to change this to letter size. My page scaling is set at Fit to Printable Area. Adobe Reader thinks the output size is 4 x 6 - how do I change this?

Reading a few WonderWare (RSLinx) tags from LabVIEW (client only)

We have a customer that uses WonderWare and Net DDE. We need to read a few WonderWare tags from a LabVIEW application running on a separate computer. I am sure this has been done before but I cannot find a good example that demonstrates the format to use for computer name, service, topic, item name when talking to WonderWare. I could only find an Access and Excel example.
All we need to do is connect to and monitor a few existing tags in WonderWare from another computer on the LAN running a LabVIEW application.
I would prefer to use OPC but they have been using Net DDE for years and do not want to change.
We cannot use LabVIEW DSC.

If you can't use LabVIEW DSC, then your best option would be to use DataSocket to connect to your OPC server. You can find a couple tutorials on DataSocket and using it with OPC servers here and here. These tutorials give information on the syntax to use when connecting to your OPC server.
Another option would be to stick with NetDDE. You can find a tutorial here on using NetDDE with LabVIEW.

I have some pictures I was sent that are in an Adobe Reader format. I want these pictures in the Windows Media Gallery but I am not sure how to do it. I am using a Windows Vista computer. All help is appreciated thank you.

Can't access url pc:9001/forms/frmservlet from another pc & only using8888

i have a weblogic server installed in Windows 2003 R2 in a domained windows network, i'm using forms & report 11.1.2 and weblogic 10.3.5
after installation every thing is ok, i can access the forms and report from network using the OHS port which is 8888
for example :
http://myweblogic:8888/forms/frmservlet?config=system
and for reports
http://myweblogic:8888/reports/rwservlet?report=xxxxxxxx
but when i try to run the forms or the report using the default ports which are : 9001 for forms & 9002 for report
i can't run it from network ( other pc) only from the host itself.
no firewall, nothink blocks these ports !!!!!
any idea why i'm not able to access this path from network and can access it from host

Generally, if you cannot access WLS ports off of the host, this usually suggests that the machine is using DHCP and/or does not have a DNS registered name. If using DHCP, fixing this can become clumsy at this point. Reinstallation might be easier after correcting the networking issue. Please refer to the product Installation Guide and Release Notes. This is a good recommendation for everyone prior to performing any installation.

Database refresh from production to test database

Dear All,
i want to refresh data on test database using production database.Test and production database has same backend structure.
i am using following steps.Please correct if i am wrong any where.
1)Take Full export from producion database
2)DROP SCHEMA ON test database.SKIP schema like sys,system and other oracle schemas.
3)do full import on test database.
is this correct way to refresh the data on other enviornmet.

You can do one correction here :
Instead of taking full export backup , take export of only those schemas which you want to refresh.
You can use datapump to make it faster.

Error ora-12028 while creating a read-only snapshot

Hi !
I'm in trouble creating a read-only snapshot of a simple table.
The Master table belongs to an ORACLE 7.3.4 database instance, while the snapshot site belongs to an ORACLE 8.1 database. The read-only snapshot should have a refresh type FAST, but while I'm running the CREATE SNAPSHOT statement in the snapshot site I receive the following message:
"ORA-12028 snapshot type is not supported by master site string
Cause: Pre-Oracle master sites are not able to support primary key or
subquery snapshots that are able to perform a fast refresh.
Action: Create a ROWID snapshot or use a master table from an Oracle8 site. "
This message doesn't help me enough. Is there anyone who can give me an advice ?

Well laura earlier version doesn't support snap shot based on primary key
u should disable primary key constraint from master site
and create snap shot on the basis of row id.
