Can an swf movie be opened on a specific frame?
When I call up an Flash-generated swf movie in its own
browser window via a navigation bar button, it always open on its
first frame. Is there a way to tell the browser in conjunction with
the getURL command to open at a specific frame other than frame 1?
I can't find an Actionscript code sample that allows this while
using getURL. Or is there some other way -- e.g. appending the swf
file with frame number in its HTML page in some way, using
Javascript, FSCommand, etc?

I created a flv movie in Flash from a avi file, which I then
exported as a swf movie. The swf movie plays fine in Flash
(file>publish preview), but when I place it into an html page in
Dreamweaver the flash icon ( f ) displays on the html page but if I
try to play the movie in Dreamweaver or open it in a test browser
all I get is a white box where the movie should be playing.
ps I can open swf images (Flash>file>export>export
images) in Dreamweaver ok, but not movies.

We get the error message saying that a file is missing, and the movie can't play properly without the file. The thing is, we can play the film, we just can't open it to move it to another drive. Help?

Sounds like you created a "Reference" file here. I.e., a "Reference" file is a file that tells the player how to play the data contained in a "Resource" file. When you try to open the "Reference" file in the QT Player app, the first thing the player does is check to see if the "Resource" data file is is still available where it is supposed to be. (I.e., moving/deleting the resource file or moving reference file without moving the resource file to maintain the relative path between the two will generate the error message you mentioned.)

That depends. Deleting a file does not actually erase the data immediately. Instead, the operating system just tells the system directory that the space containing the movie data is available for reuse if/when needed. As time passes, the chance that some of the data sectors will be re-written by other data continuously increases. To restore the file normally requires use of a special utility that both locates and restores all of the linked sectors containing the "deleted" movie data in their correct order. Other methods of restoring files would depend on the software you routinely have active on your system. For instance, do you use "TimeMachine?" or orther software that automatically backs up your data periodically? If so, then follow the instructions for your particular application to recover a deleted file. -
How can I import a movie into iMovie 09 from a hard drive? The movie will open and play in idvd but breaks into separate files that can't be downloaded when I try to import. Can it be done? I am trying to create a disc of player highlights for a collegiate coach, and I am using movie files downloaded to my hard drive from a DVD created on a PC.
No unfortunately it won't open in quicktime either. It does the same thing that Imovie does, separates it into two file folders audio and video, and if i select video it opens to reveal 8 files that cannot be selected. VIDEO_TS.BUP, VIDEO_TS.IFO, VIDEO_TS.VOB,VTS_01_0.BUP, VTS_01_0.IFO, VTS_01_1.VOB, VTS_01_2.VB, VTS_01_3.VOB. All of which cannot be opened or selected.
Opening it in Idvd and folllowing your suggestion works and I get a format code of NTSC. Is that the same? Thank you for your time and response.

Old computer HDD named Bob, new one named Betty. Trying to transfer crucial files via ethernet. Have connection, can see Bob's public folder on Betty. When try to move or open anything there, tells me I do not have permission to either view or read respectively. I changed permission on the item to read/write for Betty. Made Betty an admin on Bob etc. What can I do?

Whenever I modify a photo in Iphoto it puts it in a "modified" subfolder. Why can't I move this modified file (I changed and saved file name) back to the Iphoto main file so I can see it when I open my photos?
A good general step for strange issues is to renew the iPhoto preference file - quit iPhoto and go to "your user name" ==> library ==> preferences ==> com.apple.iPhoto.plist and trash it - launch iPhoto which creates a fresh new default preference file and reset any personal preferences you have changed and if you have moved the iPhoto library repoint to it. This may help
This does not affect your photos or any database information (keywords, faces, places, ratings, etc) in any way - they are stored in the iPhoto library - the iPhoto preference file simply controls how iPhoto works - which is why renewing it is a good first step.
If that does not cure it backup up your iPhoto library and rebuild it - depress the option and command keys and launch iphoto and use the options there - exact option depends on teh version you have
And always remember - NEVER make any changes of any sort to the structure or content of the iPhoto library - nothing - no deletions - no name changes - nothing

RH 7 - How can I get .swf movies to work inside CHM output on Windows 7
Hi RHelpers,
I'm using RoboHelp Html (RH 7, latest patch) on my Win 7 64-bit machine to provide a HtmlHelp (CHM) output.
Now that we're close to releasing, I've been doing some testing, and I've noticed that my SWF movie files do not play inside of Windows 7 when viewing them inside of the CHM file. It keeps asking to install the Adobe Flash Player. But I've already clicked Yes several times to that message, and it still doesn't play the file. I've even manually downloaded and installed it as an administrator, restarted my system and still no go. It just shows a red X in the container where the movie should be playing.
However, viewing the same topic inside of RH's preview window (or inside a browser) seems to work fine. Also, I've copied and pasted the problem CHM onto a virtual machine running 32-bit Vista, and the movies display fine there. This tells me it's something to do with how how compiled files are handled in 64-bit environments.
Has anyone else experienced this? Any solutions out there?I see the answer here:

Also I verified that our software does use the 32-bit hh.exe so I'm only seeing this when running the help by itself, outside of our software. That's good news. -
Replace one swf movie with another
I have a flash movie on my web page and I have made some of
the text inside the movie into buttons. The movie only takes up a
portion of the page. I would like to replace the movie with another
movie when somebody clicks the button.
I'm sorry if this is a really basic question but I have spent
ages trying to find out how to do it and I keep getting an error

I have a swf file (sunnyserv.swf) that contains a pre-loader
and then opens another swf file (downturn.swf). The downturn.swf
contains the buttons that I want to listen to, and swap out the
movies.
If I open sunnyserv.fla in flash and test the movie, it loads
downturn.swf, listens to the mouse click and runs the
communication.swf movie (although it doesn't clear all of the
children from downturn.swf).
However, if I export all three movies and open my web page
nothing happens! If I change the xhtml to load downturn.swf that
works ok. Any idea why it would work in test movie but not when
loaded into an xhtml page?
Also, can you see a reason why all of the children are not
being removed in the commClickHandler function?

I'm trying to create a virtual world but every time I try and publish it, it says error creating swf movie file. Here's a video to show you what i mean:

Two things that I noticed in the video:
1) You are not saving the file before publishing.
2) Flash warns you about the fonts missing from your system while opening the file.
"The document contains one or more fonts not available on your system. The text will display and publish with the font mapping below:"
So download and install the fonts on your computer "Blaster" and "Blaster Infinite" and save the file before publishing.
It doesn't seem to be saying error creating swf movie file, it just says something about the font not being right.
The message warn you that you have an anti-alias mode set on text and it requires you to have embedded fonts to use anti-aliasing. If you do not want to see that message anymore, then select your text blocks and set the anti-alias types to Use Device Fonts.
You can disable the warning message in the preferences dialog
Edit > Preferences > Warnings > uncheck "Warn on text needs embedded font".

Did you check if the format is compatible with iTunes (QuickTime plays more formats if you have add-ons)?

Can you import movie videos from SD camera card
Can you import movie videos (MP4) into an Ipad from an SD camera card on a Lightning cable ... or can you only do this from a laptop via Itunes? In other words, is Itunes the only way to get non-Itune videos to the Ipad? Hope I havent made this sound confusing.
To import the videos must follow a very strict naming convention.
All file names must have 8 characters for a name and be located in a folder named DCIM
for example
DCIM
MOV_5789.mp4
You can't watch the videos off the cart, they must be imported into the iPad. They'll go into the camera roll, when you tap on them it'll open the video app and you can watch from there. -
I can't get imovie to open after trying to shift the image from my macbook pro to the tv screen like I have done many times before. If I double click on the imovie icon, imovie doesn't open, but the strip across the top shows iMovie, file, edit , clip, view, text share window help tabs across the top. The iMovie window will appear if I click on the iMovie icon on the dock for a few seconds, or if I do control F3 at the same time, but when I click on the window it disappears. When I hover the mouse over the iMovie window that appears the window has a blue border around it. when I move the mouse outside the iMovie window the blue border goes away. If I sweep 4 fingers from the top of the screen down, the screen dims a little but the iMovie window doesn't appear. If I click play under the view tab I can hear audio, but still no iMovie window. It's as if the window is being blocked by the desk top somehow.
Similar issues here.
I purchased five movies for download and having nothing but problems getting them downloaded. I keep receiving error messages and the download stops and I have to restart it, just to get another minute worth of download with each restart. Now Apple has my money and I have nothing. -
Can't play movie from gallery on mac
I can not play movies from my gallery on my macbook. These movies are imported from Canon A630 to iPhoto. In iPhoto I can play them well. All of them are published to my mobileme gallery using iPhoto. Then I open this gallery in Safari on my macbook to check if everything was published. I visited this page earlier and installed divx, xvid, recode raw and ensharpen codecs. Also I have Perian and Flip4mac installed codecs. So my main question is: why can't I play movies from gallery using safari if in the same time I can view them well from iPhoto?
Playing of movies published with iMovie works well. But this does not matter to me since I want videos to be published in events with photos. If iPhoto has functionality to publish videos so it must work! Also I must mention that videos published with iPhoto can be played without problems from my PC with safari+quick time for windows. But under my Mac none of Safari, Firefox and Camino can view videos from my gallery. So I think problem is in QuickTime.Anybody?????? Im using web premium CS5.5 it seems ludicrous that by default it lets every website play content on my computer but regards my own content as a security risk and wont let me rectify the problem!

I have an external hard drive which has my i-photo on it & some movies from i-movie that I have on disk now. But for some reason my ehd has a caution symbol on it & I can't move my event to free up space on my hd so that I can export i-movie events. Help!
Usually the caution symbol means that it's formatted as a PC compatible format like NTFS or most likely FAT32. For iMovie to use it the ehd must be formatted Mac OS Extended. Then iMovie will show it without the caution symbol and you can drag/drop open any Event/Project from that hard drive.
To find out if it's formatted as PC:
Go to the desktop, holding down the Control key click on that ehd and in the pop-menu choose 'Get Info'
Under Format: It will say whether or not it's Mac OS Extended (Journaled). The only way to undo a PC formatted ehd would be to copy everything off of it first, Erase/Format the drive using Disk Utility in the Applications>Utilities folder on your Mac, choosing the Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format in the pull-down menu there. -

I've been working on a CD-Rom presentation with Flash and so
far I was mostly using AS1 and AS2 to built it. I started to learn
some AS3 for a part of the presentation but now I'm running into
issue, here's the main one:
I'm loading different SWF movie one on top of the other, and
unloading them as needed, now this is very easy with AS1 (loadmovie
and unloadmovie function are simple to use), but when I'm loading
my file built with AS3 I can't figure out how to unload it. The AS3
movie is loaded on the Level 5, I just want to make sure that when
I'm unloading the file it's not unloading everything else.
Can anyone help me.
