Can any verify what optical drive is in a dv7-4177nr?

Specificly im looking for a drive name.
A week ago I sent my laptop in because it would occasionally not boot to post(power led lights but screen remains blank and caps lock led blinks) and overheating(95c). They replaced mobo, heatsync, keyboard, wires, and optical drive. I noticed now that in "computer" it actually list the optical drive as a BD-RW.So I was wondering if anyone could look up the drive name in your own 4177nr. Mine is listed as "HP BD MLT UJ240". Just trying to find out if the accidently upgraded my drive.

The additional notebook drives numbers are not know to me and I dont know the meaning.
However, you have to know that not all drives can be used in the notebook. The CD/DVD drive supports different master/slave/ c-sel settings which are not changeable and sometimes dont match with the notebook.
Therefore you have to use only the drives recommended by Toshiba! As far as I know the different compatible drives are listed in the user manual. Please take a look there!
I found a several supported drives. For example:
TEAC DW-224E
TEAC DV-W22-85
Toshiba SD-C2612
Toshiba SD-R2412
But as said above, check the user manual. All drives listed there

On the Mac, you can add an Eject button to your menu bar so that you can ejects CDs and DVDs easily. To add this, open a Finder window and select your hard drive under the "Devices" section on the left. Then navigate to the System -> Library -> CoreServices -> Menu Extras directory. You'll see a file called Eject.menu. If you double click on this file, it'll add an Eject button to your menu bar. Then you can open or close the disc drive using the menu control. (It's a small upward pointing triangle with an underline)
Or you can close it manually.

Can I choose the optical drive when durning the contents of a burn folder?

I just purchased an external optical drive for my Mac and I want to use it to burn contents from a burn folder. The problem is, each time I click the burn button, the OS still looks for a disc in the Mac's built in optical drive. I've tried to look for an option that will allow me to change this, but there seems to be none. Any help would be appreciated.

I'm no expert, and it is not clear at what stage you are in your attempt to burn to your external drive. If you have not yet created a burn folder, open finder, go to the file menu, and you will find an option to create a burn folder. It will appear on your desktop .Once you have dropped whichever files you want into the burn folder, right click on it, and you will be asked to which disk you wish to burn it. From there you can install the folder onto your external drive.Good luck.

Can I replace my optical drive with internal blu-Ray player?

Basically what the question says. I have a MacBook Pro mid-2009, and I'm wondering if I can replace the optical drive with an internal blu-ray drive. I would want to be able to read and write to regular CD and DVD still though, that's a must. Also, if there is an internal drive I can put in, will OSX Mavericks support playing a blu-ray movie just because my computer can read it?

How can I fix my optical drive?

In mid-September my sister asked me to free up some space on her computer harddrive (hers is a 2009 MacBook, white plastic unibody or whatever). Her drive was so full that she couldn't download the smallest of drive apps. I told her to just delete some junk but she refused, stubborn girl. So I removed my computers optical drive (I have a 2010 MacBook Pro with aluminum unibody), and replaced it temporarily with the OWC data doubler. At first I couldn't do the replacement because there was a screw I couldn't remove because the head of the screw was broken, so I put my OWC SSD in my sister's computer and her HDD in her optical drive slot. It worked. But now my optical drive is not working. It has power, the discs insert and revolve normally, but my computer doesn't get any of the information. iTunes can't 'see' the CD's and DVD Player can't 'see' the DVD's. And I can rarely eject the discs. I only ever tried one CD and one DVD in the drive and both spent over a week to eject. When they ejected, the computer had just booted up and said "You have inserted an incompatible disk" or something like that, I don't really remember. I did try removing all the data from my SSD and booted it up as completely new, but got the same thing.
HELP!
BTW when I inserted the DVD and opened DVD Player, it showed an error code -70012 (A valid DVD drive could not be found)

The Superdrive is tied to a copy protection scheme for playing DVD movies, I suspect when you placed it in the other machine it messed this up.
Have no idea how to fix it and you should have consulted before doing such a drastic act.
It's dumb moves like this that Apple is now sealing up all their computers so us pro's and power users can't service it themselves.
Firewire Target Disk Mode could have been used to free up space on the non-booting hard drive, or installing OS X on a external drive.

Can I use an optical drive as a backup drive for File History?

I wish to use a DVD drive as a backup...win now calls it file history... drive. The flash drives and HDs show up an an option but not the external or internal optical drives. Can they be used?

Which OS are you referring to?
An external drive, network or Cloud drive are seen the best options. DVD drives are not seen as viable options. Read this microsoft document about setting up a drive for file history.

What optical drive would i get to replace in 2008 24" iMac?

I received a 2008 24" iMac as a gift. The optical drive is bad and I need to replace the 1TB hard drive.
My question is this: I have found many different optical drives out there for the iMac. Which one do I get for my iMac?
The info off the tag on the stand is following:

I have been working with and building PC's for about 20 years and have just started working on this iMac. I know the extent of getting into the case and I have to open it up to replace the hard drive anyway because it is also junk.

How can I verify what version of IE11 (32 or 64) is running on a 64 bit version of Windows 7

I recently upgraded from IE8 to IE 11. In the past when I would run ie8 from the Programs(86) folder it would indicate it was the the 32 bit version in the task manager by having an entry for iexplorer.exe *32
For IE11, the *32 does not show in the task manager.
How can I verify IE11 is running in *32 mode? I am trying to troubleshoot some active X controls that have known problems with IE11 *64 but I can't seem to verify which version I am running. Note I launch IE11 from the Program Files (86) directory
but I still would like some verification on what version is actually running. I am concerned because I am not seeing the *32 in task manager.

In IE10+, on a 64bit PC the frame (outer window) is always 64bit. The tabs are generally 32bit unless you've enabled Enhanced Protected Mode or are running inside Win8+ Metro environment.

Of course!! Just pulling your leg on the funny typo. You said you were only interested in downloading things, but if you need to use CDs, then you can get any external OD that works on Firewire 400 or USB. You may need to shop places like OWC and Best Buy or Staples.

Can i replace the optical drive in my G5 with a HDD

I have a G4 and I was thinking of using the HDD from it to try to repair my G5, but it is IDE, and the only place it would go in a G5 is the superdrive slot. I know I could use target disk mode, but I seeem to have misplaced my FireWire cable.

What OS is on the G5? You can't do a Disk Utility repair on the hard drive you are booted on. Besides it's unlikely the G5 will boot using the OS installed on the G4 HD. Get another Firewire cable.
Do you have the G5 Install/Restore DVD? If so, boot using it & use Disk Utility on it to do the repairs

It isn't going to do anything with the speed of your computer. It will give you more storage so you can store more things, but nothing with the speed of the overall computer. What would speed it up is to get a faster hard drive then the original one installed which can load data faster, however, putting in a second one isn't going to unless it was faster and you had the OS installed on that one.
