Can anyone please shed some light on how I can run MS Office and Meta Trader 4 platform on mac air. I have been using Play on Mac and Wine for the past couple of weeks, but now suddenly it has stopped working, only crashing and giving me nightmares. Is it juts best to install the latest Windows or Parallel?

Meta Trader 4 is Windows only - Office is available for the Mac and Windows and are mostly compatible but given that you'll be doing online trading you may prefer the Windows version of Excel since there are financial spreadsheets with macros that only run on the Mac with some significant editing.
You can install Windows 7 or 8 in BootCamp or any version of Windows usting virtualization. VMWare and Parallels are commercial programs and VirtualBox is open source. VB may be all you need. Whatever solution you choose, you'll need a commercial version of Windows (or get an OEM disc from NewEgg).

Had expected icons (Mail, Reminders, Calendar, etc.) would update to those of iOS 7 with the Mavericks update. They did not (for me)! Specifically:
Will not turn on, will not turn on unless connected to power, or unexpected power off
Verify that the Sleep/Wake button functions. If it does not function, inspect it for signs of damage. If the button is damaged or is not functioning when pressed, seek service.
Check if a Liquid Contact Indicator (LCI) is activated or there are signs of corrosion. Learn about LCIsand corrosion.
Connect the iPhone to the iPhone's USB power adapter and let it charge for at least ten minutes.
After at least 15 minutes, if:
The home screen appears: The iPhone should be working. Update to the latest version of iOS if necessary. Continue charging it until it is completely charged and you see this battery icon in the upper-right corner of the screen . Then unplug the phone from power. If it immediately turns off, seek service.
The low-battery image appears, even after the phone has charged for at least 20 minutes: See "iPhone displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive" symptom in this article.
Something other than the Home screen or Low Battery image appears, continue with this article for further troubleshooting steps.
If the iPhone did not turn on, reset it while connected to the iPhone USB power adapter.
If the display turns on, go to step 4.
If the display remains black, go to next step.
Connect the iPhone to a computer and open iTunes. If iTunes recognizes the iPhone and indicates that it is in recovery mode, attempt to restore the iPhone. If the iPhone doesn't appear in iTunes or if you have difficulties in restoring the iPhone, see this article for further assistance.

So I downloaded acrobat XI Standard from the Adobe website, when I go to install it, it says "Adobe XI Pro" at the top left corner. Can anyone shed some light on this for me? I have a volume license for XI Std. so I would like to use the Std. version.

when registering my iphone on itunes the message - the sim card insertedin this iphone does not appear to be supported - can anyone shed some light on this and tell me a way around this problem? the phone itself is an english phone and tried to register with a spanish sim and that message appeard, so i tried with my iphone sim which is english and the same message appeared!

Thanks for that 'sberman' - because my iPhone is backed-up to my work computer (only at this stage) I have had to call our IT Department in Adleaide. (4 times this morning). The last guy managed to get the phone into 'DFU Mode' - no more recovery mode screen - (kind of 'asleep' perhaps) from my understanding of same. I am awaiting a call again from IT so they can get my computer to actually recognise my iPhone on the C Drive. This also happened to one of my colleagues in Newman (WA). She got so frustrated with the whole process that she bought another phone the next time she was in 'civilisation.' She hasn't had any problems since. (Cross fingers).

Ever since my last update I have been unable to add songs from my i tunes library onto my i phone. The "add to" button does not appear for me when I connect my i phone. Can anyone shed some light on this for me?

To say that I am livid would be the greatest understatement EVER made in the ENTIRE history of the planet. Last night my iPhone 5 decided it would go into Recovery Mode. (That is.....a Black screen showing the iTunes logo, a white 'up' arrow and with the white cable/plug at the bottom of the screen).
(Hold onto your Samsung Galaxys people - do NOT throw/give them away when you 'update (yeh right) to an iPhone).
So I turned it off and left it off all of last night. I arrived at work this morning to 'sync/restore' it with my computer where it asked me to install the latest version of 'whatever it is the latest version of.' HOWEVER, as I do not have the administrative rights to do such things on my work computer, I was unable to do so and now I have been riding the 'Apple Merry-Go-Round' since 0630hrs (WAST). It comes up with the following message in a window on the screen:-
'The iPhone "iPhone" could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (14).'
Gee - thanks for that - I'd never have known unless I saw that little window!!!! The fact that my screen has frozen and I am unable to install, sync or restore anything kind of gives it away!!!

That is a 'tad' hard as I work in The Pilbara Region of North West, Western Australia (for 4+ weeks at any one time) and won't be back in 'civilisation' until next Monday week (10th of Feb, 2014)........Talk about being held to ransom by technology!! I have asked other people at work (who ALL have iPhones) and when I showed them the screen (& the whole ridiculous process) they screwed their faces up as they had never seen such a thing. Some people NEVER get asked to update/install anything on their phones.....So, I have to wonder why mine 'asks me'.......constantly.

Newly installed Font not showing up in Illustrator. Can anyone shed some light as to why?

I've recently installed .otf version of New Century Schoolbook into FontBook. It's working fine in all my other Adobe programs (CS6 CC) but for some reason, it just doesn't seem to want to work inside of Illustrator.
Can anyone give me a hand getting this font up and running?

JakobHave a feeling the alphabetical order may strange like mine on that font. Did they tag the menu name to have Adobe bur invisible, not sure. Also Check for the calssic menu name not matching font name of "ITC New Century Schoollbook".

I have just wrapped a C API in JNI.
It pumps messages into a callback, which are then forward to the Java side via a env->CallIntMethod(object, method, jlong, jlong).
On the java side a single accessor object is created to access the fields in the C messages. The accessors are of course JNI. A single object is created instead of a new object per message. Code snippets follow below.
Trouble is, things are incredibly slow. A C test runs in 16 seconds, the Java version takes 6 minutes!
A test which returns from the callback right away takes C 15 seconds and Java 26 seconds - still too long for the one single JNI call.
I have timed some native calls from Java to C, and found JNI calls about 7-8x slower than calls to a java method.
Even with this knowledge, I can't account for the huge performance hit.
Is is possible that my java callback, which is called from C, and all my accessor objects which are created once and call C from Java, are not being compiled to machine code but are being interpreted? Does hotspot do its stuff on existing objects? I assumed so, but I am not sure now.

So now possible ideas for solutions if I can't find out what is going on:
1. Direct memory buffers. Copy the most often used data into a buffer and then unpack it on the java side.
2. UDP. Forward the messages via a UDP/localhost connection which I believe uses direct memory to transfer - but this is a pain, most of my JNI wrapper is autogenerated with SWIG. Is networking using JNI in java or some internal magic?
Any comments are welcome, as I don't want to do anything for a bit - annoying having a working Java wrapper, but unusable in any application I have.
-EdArgh - once again, I find my solution right after posting this. Left out one modification to the SWIG script, now it runs in 29 seconds vs C 16 seconds, I can live with that.

I recently aquired an iPhone 4S, perfectly fine, around 2 months old. everything is working fine, and all apps and music are downloaded on to iTunes and WERE origionally on the iPhone. I started to then add more songs from iTunes, though the phone started refusing to download them and then the majority of my collection were then deleted. I did origionally think that this was simply because it could not find the location of all the music files, though upon searching i found that iTunes could indeed fine every single file, and that they all played perfectly well in iTunes. I did reset the phone and try simply re-installing the exact same storage pre-reset, though it simply made all of the songs like that. The iPhone (4S, 32GB, 4 month old) did have around 900 songs on it, all playing fine, though recently the number on iTunes is around 1240, though I don't want all the songs on.
It is not that I am incapable of understanding the software of iTunes or of the iPhone, and I have had previous Apple products and also had interaction with various models (iPhone 5/5C/5S) and Android, so it this is where it stumps me on what the actual problem is.
I have tried doing things like:
Reseting the phone
Making an individual playlist with all of the songs that I want on my phone
Downloading Albums/Artists/songs/playlists individually (as to rule out if it is a specific artist/song/so on
Downloading everything and then trying to get iTunes to download the actual song directly
When updating/syncing my options on the Music tap on iTunes when the iPhone is plugged in, it registers on iTunes that the every song that I have ticked to be included in the sync has been synced, though upon checking my iPhone on the music app, the majority of the music will either have failed to sync or not be there, or be registered but unplayable (the title of the song is slightly transparent/grey). Then upon inspection of the [Settings>General>About>Songs], the count does not equate to that which is stated on iTunes.
Any help will be appreciated as soon as possible, as my iPhone is used for music a significant amount of the time and the loss of around 700 songs off of my phone is quite significant.
Bearing in mind that I am only 16 years old and have no actual IT knowledge in-depth of what is actually occuring other ethan what the consumers can see through such things as the settings and the location of files and their formats, I would be appreciative if any explanation wouldn't end up being too confusing, nor it being patronising (for instance, my ignorance of how to download music to iTunes)

I had EXACTLY the same issue recently. What I had to do on my PC was go into the My computer section> click on my C drive> click on users> click on my username> go into music and then iTunes> Here you should see something that says iTunes Library. Make sure that iTunes is Closed and then take the iTune library and drag it onto Your desktop. This will create a copy on the desktop but iTunes will not see it. Reopen iTunes and you should see an option to scan for media. Once you do this iTunes should re-build your iTunes library and It should be able to sync. If it syncs fine and all your content is available go to the iTunes library that you dragged to the desktop and delete it as you should not have a new one. If this does not work absolutley do NOT delete the iTunes library that is on the desktop.
Call Apple and let them know of the steps you have taken and request some help. This should fix it though! -
My gmail email is my apple ID. I found I lost access of gmail last night and I reset the password before bed. But this morning the password was changed again. My ipad also requested a password that didn't match to the one I used. I have reset my gmail once more. In addition, I added 2-step verification. But I have not received any new mail up to now. I tried to reset my apple ID. When I selected sending an email for resetting, the mail was sent but never reached my mailbox; When I selected answering security questions: the birthday was wrong. It's been changed. I am SO SO UPSET. Can any genius take pity on me and show me some guidance, please?

Can anyone shed some light on the bizarre filing system?
Ive been using Iphoto for years and have yet to ask or figure out the file naming system.. for instance under 2002 there are a ton of folders that are named as a number and inside of thise more of the same. I cant figure out WHAT the logic is? Enlighten me..
A Note about the v6 iPhoto Library Folder:
In this folder there are various files, which are the Library itself and some ancillary files. Then you have three folders
Originals are the photos as they were downloaded from your camera or scanner.
(ii) Modified contains edited pics, shots that you have cropped, rotated or changed in any way.
This allows the Photos -> Revert to Original command - very useful if you don't like the changes you've made.
(iii) Data holds the thumbnails the the app needs to show you the photos in the iPhoto Window.
It is strongly advised that you do not move, change or in anyway alter things in the iPhoto Library Folder as this can cause the application to fail and even lead to data loss
There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
3. Show File: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
Rolls in the iPhoto Window correspond exactly with the Roll Folders in the Originals Folder in the iPhoto Library Folder. You can move photos between Rolls, you can rename rolls, edit them, create them, as long as you do it via the iPhoto Window. Check out the Info Pane (wee 'i', lower left) the name and date fields are editable. Edit a Roll Name using the Info Pane, the Roll Folder in iPhoto Library Folder/Originals will also have the new name.

We are having problems running two iPhones. When a setting is changed on one one it changed the other.
Hey I know I'm new, but I'm running 3 iPhones and an iPad all using my one apple id, I've never had any problems with the setting's syncing between them. Why would they need a whole new apple id? Can they not just change the cloud settings on the individual phones so that they don't sync? That's what I did, I sync my phone with my PC and my wife's phone & iPad sync to the cloud for most things. before I made these changes she was getting my calender notifications but everything else was working perfectly and still does.
I personally don't think you need a new apple id, maybe the phones need to be named differently, and cloud settings need to be adjusted to your personal needs.
I like having everything under the same id, since I can purchase apps for all my devices and we share the photo stream between all devices so I get to check out pictures she takes with the kids while i'm at work and vice versa. Also love being able to use findmyiPhone to track her location (and vice versa).
Sorry if I'm stepping on your toes Eric, but I just think that there is a better solution for the OP than creating a whole new apple id.
