Can find backup files!!! Please help

Lost my BB last week in DFW airport. Just got a replacement today and was excited to get back and restore my data. I thought it would be on the desktop but I can not find it anywhere. I have searched for .ipd files and nothing shows. I specifically remember backing up not long ago but do not know the exact date. PLEASE HELP ME. Like everyone else on this board, I live (and will die) with this thing. I have a ka-jillion work and customer contacts.

Oh man I feel for you.
Your backup will be saved as a *.ipd file. Search the entire PC.
Often the saved file will default to the My Documents folder. Look there as well.

Can't find my files, PLEASE HELP

I was arranging my files in external hard disk 750 GB using MacPro. I can't see some files in 3 folders now and I emptied the trash. I think the files are there as when I get informations of the hard disk; it shows that 570Gb are used and when I select all folders inside and get informations; it says that 450Gb are used. I would like to see the missing 120GB, I am sure that the files are there.
Please help me as those are really important data and pictures and I have a backup of that data

Recovery is possible but is not pre-installed or built in.
You will want to invest in redundant backup sets, an extra drive to recover files to.

As long as you don't touch or use the drive there is more chance to find them.
Never try to move or alter files on TimeMachine volume unless you know for sure.

I strongly and highly recommend David Pogue's ebook or paperback of "Mac OS X: The Missing Manual" which is a godsend and invaluable help and tips and well organized from two decades now of refinement and updates. Can be found wherever books are sold, including even in pdf format.
For backups, besides being sure to use TimeMachine, setup another drive and "clone" your system drive - can be exact copy or include archiving files and changes. For this the premiere program is Carbon Copy Cloner which is now updated for OS X Yosemite.

IChat can't send file, please help

After updating to OSX 10.4.4 my iChat cannot send any file, but it allows me to receive it. When I try to send the message to another person, it shows that it is waiting for me to start and in a couple seconds later I would get an error message stating that the other person did not accepth the file.
I have seen these problem around the forum, but yet any of them have been answer.
Is it the new 10.4.4 that is causing it? Anyone with solution please help.
P.S. I also tried open port 5190, but it is not working.

Ok.
Most Connection devices come, as default, with DHCP turned on.
This means the device (Linksys and Airports) are their own server giving out Addresses dynamically to your Local Network.
As by default most devices have port 1-1024 open and not part of any methods to open them you tend to be able to add a whole bunch of DHCP server together and applications that use ports below the 1024 threshold can work (web browsing, Mail, FTP to upload Web pages to a server or download files)
Having IP given out by different devices creates Subnets on your LAN.
Because of the way routers in particular handle IP addresses given out by previuos devices your computer can recieve more than one IP address on the LAN (Although only one can be seen on the Mac)
Pause.
So you have several things to deal with here.
1) The Mac Firewall if it is On.
2) The DHCP serving on your Network.
3) The way the method you use of Opening the ports in one device effects the result of opening the ports on the other device.
To Solve 1) look at the table on this page
Also look at the instructions and Pics of the Firewall on this one
To solve 2) do this:
Open Airport Admin Utility found in Application/Utlities
Log on to the Airport
Go to the NEtwork tab
Deselect "Distributing Addresses"
Apply cahnges
As this also turns of NAT in the Airport it adds to solving 3)
For Finishing 3) completely do this:
Type 192.168.1.1 in to your web browser like a page address
Type Admin for both User ID and Password.
Go to the Adminsrtaion tab
Enable UPnP
Save Settings.
For other people following this go to http://portforward.com/routers.htm and follow the links to iChat and the Pics and Instructions for your modem.
You should use this site to see if the Pics show where the UPnP is if your Modem has it, not to mention finding out the default IP address of the modem and the default User ID and Passwords.
What this achieves is the modem is still doing DHCP to your Network. It is opening the ports by UPnP. The Airport is now basically a wireless access point. The Airport and computer now have IP addresses from the Modem only.

What OS are you running? Is it Windows? I know of two possible fixes:
#1 Download a new javasup.vxd:
After searching some, the only functioning download I could find is at this site. Choose javasup.vxd and place it in c:\windows\system

If the problem persists after you reboot as suggested by Ralph:
Trouble connecting usually means interference, or another WiFi on the same channel.
If you have any cordless phones, keyboards, or cameras, check what frequency they use.
From a MAC or Windows machine you can see what channel each of the available networks are using. Make sure your network is on a channel nobody else nearby is also using.

When I click a number to play in iTunes, I get a pop-up that says "cannot find original file", Please help.

Here are typical layouts for the iTunes folders:
If you have upgraded from version 8 (or earlier) to iTunes 9 (or later) at some point, then your media folder (everything inside the red outline) may still be called iTunes Music instead of iTunes Media. The extra Music folder inside the media folder is used if you have allowed iTunes to Upgrade to iTunes Media Organization (iTunes 9) or used File > Library > Organize Library > Reorganize files in the folder "<Media Folder>" (iTunes 10). Depending on your choices for Keep iTunes Media folder organized and Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library plus a little bug in which one build changed the name of the file storing the choice of layout it is quite easy for some of your files to be organized according to one layout and some the other.
It is possible that in the upgrade to Lion iTunes has been installed with the current default options while your library is based on an older structure. Use Get Info. on a missing track, click cancel when asked to locate it and look at the path given on the summary tab. Now look for the actual file with Finder. Post both paths back here and we can try to make sense of the problem.

Can't Attach Files, Please Help

I tried to attach some screen shots, I hit browse, click my doc, hit open, shows up C:\Users\Derek\Documents\Multisim 12 Screen Shots\Screen Shots.docx in the Attachments box. hit post. It disappears from the Att. box. If I hit post again it will just post my comments.

If you try to do this then you'll notice that at the top you get a message.
It reads:
Please correct the highlighted errors and try again.
The file does not have a valid extension for an attachment. jpg,gif,txt,xls,vi,zip,doc,llb,pdf,png,ini,wsp,rtf,lvproj,lvlib,cfg,ppt,pps,csv,ms10,ms9,ms8,ms7,msm,prz,cir,ewprj,gbr,seproj,ms11,mp11,ms12 are the valid extensions.

Try to reset it. just press hold the on/off botton (ignore the red slider) just hold it then the ipad is automatically reset. dont worry about your file, there nothing happen to it. Godbless.

you have a 13-inch Mid 2012 MacBook Pro. It’s modern enough that it supports booting into Recovery mode. To do so, hold down a Command key and the R key as you start up. It should eventually show a Mac OS X Utilities menu. Select Disk Utility from that menu; when the Disk Utility window appears, select the bootable volume from the left-hand side of the window. (It’s typically called “Macintosh HD”.) When the volume is selected, some buttons will appear on the right-hand side. If it’s not greyed out, press the Verify Disk button; if it is greyed out, or if it reports on errors that it found, press the Repair Disk button. Once the verification/repair is completed, exit Disk Utility and select Restart from the Apple menu; that will restart your MacBook Pro in its normal mode. With luck, that will be enough to get you to your normal login screen, rather than the white screen.

Unfortunately if you did not set up 'Find My iPhone', there is no way to remotely track or wipe the device.
