Can I acquire waveform at faster sampling rate using external clock?

I am trying to acquire waveform at a sampling rate of 1MHz. My 6036E card is maxed out at 200KHz. Is there a way to achieve a sampling rate of 1MHz using an external sample clock? Your PFI pin can take external clock as an AI sample clock, right?

Hi,
I remember I asked the similar question before in the NI forum, they reply me:
the max sample rate (scan/s/channel) cannot be greater than your board max sample rate, even you use external scan clcok. So the answer is no for your case.

  • How can I find out the audio sampling rate of BetacamSP tape?

    Hi guys
I'm trying to digitize BetacamSP tape. But I'm afraid if I might choose wrong setting...
This tape is from very long time ago so we don't know which audio sampling rate we recorded with..
How can I find out the audio sampling rate of this BetacamSP tape?
    Thanks:)

The sampling rate is set by the Sony DVMCDA2 you are using, when the conversion is made from the analog input to the digital (DV) output. You should be outputting standard DV which is 16bit 48khz audio.
Assuming you are in the US, your Easy Setup for FCP should be DV-NTSC, and then open the Log and Capture Pane and set the Capture Settings Device Control to Non-Controlable Device and you should be good to go.
You will have to roll the deck manually and start and end your capture manually.
You can download a user manual for the DVMCDA2 by clicking here.

    hi there
from the NI main page go to the developer zone http://www.ni.com/devzone/dev_exchange/ex_search.htm. select "LabVIEW" and "Digital Multimeter (DMM)" and search for "4070". then you'll find some examples.

  • How can I use external clock to implement a delay?

    Hi all,
I am testing to use external clock to drive dev/PFI0 (on device 6711) which is used as the clock for the analog ouput. I have thinking two applications by using the external clock but I don't have much idea on the implementation yet.
First of all, I have a sequence of data (array) with each sample being sent at the interval of 1us. I use an external clock (10MHz) driving the PFI0 so it is pretty easy to achieve that goal. I am thinking what happen if I want each sampel being sent at different time. For example, if I have 5 samples, I want the first one sent 1us after the task start and wait 2us to send the 2nd sample, wait 5us to send the 3rd sample and wait 11 us to send the 4th sample, and wait 1us to send the last sample. Is it possible to achieve that based on the external clock?
Second question is about the delay. My code require ciritcal timing and the builtin delay doesn't behave very well because I am running in windows. I can increase the priority of the vi to highest, it helps a bit but still not perfect. I am thinking if it is possible to implement hardward delay based on the external clock. Any idea?

    Hello dragondriver,
To answer your first question, yes you could send data in that fashion. You would have to programmatically build a pulse train and use that to trigger the sending of data. The answer to the second question is essentially the same. You should be able to programmatically build a pulse train with a delay and use it as trigger to begin whatever operation you have.

  • How can I ensure that the audio sample rate of my capture preset matches?

    Hi
    1. I have found that none of my ten projects has sound, although audio meters & settings moves up & down.
Simultaniously, canvas displays that In: Not Set- & Out Not Set. Below those reads: Video V1: 00:03:42;13 Audio A1: 00:03:42;13 A2: 00:42;13. These happen on the images of all my ten projects when the playhead stops in timeline
    2. In Viewer the In & Out sets show a thin red line connecting them.
I never had this problem before. A/V of all projects were doing just fine till last night.
I wonder if these issues are interrelated, or if I may have clicked something wrongly that has triggered this, which I don't remember now.
I would appreciate it if you could kindly address this problem and help me to resolve the isssue. Thank you. Faruk.

The red line indicates the audio must be rendered. This may be caused by several things but your playback settings may be set too high for your system to handle. You may have too many audio tracks for your computer to play in realtime.
Select one of the audio files in the timeline, get properties, not the audio format and sampling rate.
Now got to Sequence>Settings and determine if the settings match your audio settings.
Your online help system can guide you through adjusting your system settings, user settings and sequence settings.

  • E-MU 0204 for Vinyl Recording: Missing Sampling Rates Using Windows 7 Drivers?

    Hi all,
Just so you know, the primary use for the E-MU 0204 is to convert the mounds of LPs I have into digital format (either 88.2 or 96 kHz sampling at 24 bit). Having said that, I'm going through a lot of growing pains with the E-MU 0204 unit I just purchased. The specs of my setup is as follows:
    -Windows 7 Pro 64Bit 8GB ram
-Stanton T.92 USB (with internal preamp removed)
    -Shure M97xE cartridge
    -ART DJ PreII Phono Preamp.
As far as I can tell, the E-MU drivers are properly loaded onto the OS and in the Device Manager>Sound, and video game controllers, windows correctly identifies the unit as a "E-MU 0204 USB".
From the specifications of the unit here:
"Sample Rates: 44.1, 48, 88.2, 96, 176.4, 192kHz from internal crystal (no sample rate conversion)
    Bit Depth: 24-bit I/O, 32-bit processing
    USB Hi-Speed
    - Full 24-bit resolution at all sample rates
    - Stereo in, stereo out at all sample rates"
Yet, in the "Recording Devices" of my OS, I get only the following choices:
-2 channel, 16 bit, 88200 Hz (Studio Quality)
-2 channel, 16 bit, 96000 Hz (Studio Quality)
-2 channel, 16 bit, 176400 Hz (Studio Quality)
-2 channel, 16 bit, 192000 Hz (Studio Quality)
-2 channel, 24 bit, 44100 Hz (Studio Quality)
-2 channel, 24 bit, 48000 Hz (Studio Quality)
-2 channel, 24 bit, 96000 Hz (Studio Quality)
-2 channel, 24 bit, 192000 Hz (Studio Quality).
    The 44.1 kHz/16 bit, 48 kHz/24 bit, 88.2 kHz/24 bit, and 176.4 kHz/24 bit modes seem to be missing.
My preferred choice for recording LPs is to use 96/24 for LP music that I know will not be burned onto CD, and 88.2/24 for LP music I know may be burned onto CD in the future at some point.
Am I missing something here? Please help!
I'm pretty new to this whole E-MU interface stuff, so I appreciate your patience in advance.
    Thanks kindly,
    Andrew

There can be other high priority prcosses as well.
Keep trying with DPC Latency Tool ...
    Also, you could try by
    - turning off all visual effects of O/S (incl. Aero)
    - turn off indexing service
    - launch perfmon.msc / system monitoring tool to see which processes uses CPU/etc.
If you already uninstalled XP then why not install XP as well (dual boot system). Most audio interfaces works better on 32-bit XP compared to Vista/W7 & 64-bit systems.

  • Sample with an external clock with a SCXI 1140 (8 channel sample/hold amplifier)

    I have a SCXI 1140 (8 channel sample/hold amplifier) and a SCXI 1305 card (BNC).
I want to sample an analog signal with external frequency (SMB connector).
I plug an analog signal on the channel 0 and a TTL signal on SMB connector "hold/clock" (the jumper corresponding to the SMB connector is on Hold postion).
I use the "ACQUIRE N SCANS - EXT SCANSCLK.VI" LabView example with :
    DEVICE=1
    CHANNELS [0]=SC1!MD1!0
    CLOCK SOURCE=I/O CONNECTOR
    CLOCK SOURCE STRING=SC1!MD1!
When I execute the example, I have the error -10 001 (problem with clock source string).
If I used CLOCK SOURCE=INTERNAL there is no error, but I do not sample with hold signal !
    What is the probl
    em with the string ?
Is there another solution for sampling whith an external signal ?

The error that you're seeing is being generated because the clock source string should be "sc1!md1" not "sc1!md1!". It's the "!" at the end of the string that is causing the error.

  • NIDAQmx: how to simultaneously acquire channels at different sample rates?

I have a PCI-6229 (M-series card). It has an advertised throughput of 250K/sec. I'd like to configure the card to simultaneously sample eight (8) AIN channels at 25K/sec, and none (9) AIN channels at 5K/sec. This results in a usage of about 245K/sec out of the available 250K/sec, which seems "do-able". But how do you setup the task(s) in NIDAQmx to do accomplish this? Are there any examples (I'm using the ANSI-C API) which illustrate how to do this?
I can't just set all 17 channels to 25K (and decimate the data for the slow channels), because there is not enough bandwidth. I was also unable to setup two tasks (one for high-speed, one for low-speed) because I get an error when I start the
second task. Is there another way to accomplish this?
Thanks in advance for any help!

    Greetings,
I would take a look at this KnowledgeBase that describes the process between doing this task.

  • How can i display Waveform chart in a subpanel using Vi templates.

    Hi All
I am new to Labview hence need  some help. I am trying to develop an application which reads some data from a Wireless Sensor Network (WSN). The WSN consists of base station connected to the USB port which recieves data from other sensor nodes.  The data comes in a certain format.  Node name, temperature reading, humidity reading etc. I want to read the data from the serial port and  based on the Node name, i want to display the information for each node in s separate window or subpanel etc. So if a new node is detected then a new window is created for that node. Since all the nodes have the same sensors on board i only need a one template. I can read the data using the serial port, parse the data to detect which node it is and also what the sensor readings are. I have created a template VI for the sensor node. I am having problems in displaying the template VIs in a subpanel. I can succesfully display a Waveform graph in the subpanel but i am having problems in displaying a waveform chart in the subpanel. I can see the actual waveform chart in the subpanel, but i cannot see the plot. Would be greatful if someone could point out what i am doing wrong here.
    Many Thanks

  • How can I make my computer faster like it used to be?

My computer is slow to load everything and slow to switch between programs.

First, back up all data immediately, as your boot drive might be failing.
There are a few other possible causes of generalized slow performance that you can rule out easily.
    Reset the System Management Controller.
If you have many image or video files on the Desktop with preview icons, move them to another folder.
If applicable, uncheck all boxes in the iCloud preference pane.
Disconnect all non-essential wired peripherals and remove aftermarket expansion cards, if any.
Check your keychains in Keychain Access for excessively duplicated items.
Boot into Recovery mode, launch Disk Utility, and run Repair Disk.
Otherwise, take the steps below when you notice the problem.
    Step 1
Launch the Activity Monitor application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Activity Monitor in the icon grid.
Select the CPU tab of the Activity Monitor window.
Select All Processes from the menu in the toolbar, if not already selected.
Click the heading of the % CPU column in the process table to sort the entries by CPU usage. You may have to click it twice to get the highest value at the top. What is it, and what is the process? Also post the values for % User, % System, and % Idle at the bottom of the window.
Select the System Memory tab. What values are shown in the bottom part of the window for Page outs and Swap used?
Next, select the Disk Activity tab. Post the approximate values shown for Reads in/sec and Writes out/sec (not Reads in and Writes out.)
    Step 2
If you have more than one user account, you must be logged in as an administrator to carry out this step.
Launch the Console application in the same way you launched Activity Monitor. Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Select the 50 or so most recent entries in the log. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V). You're looking for entries at the end of the log, not at the beginning.
When posting a log extract, be selective. Don't post more than is requested.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some personal information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting. That should be easy to do if your extract is not too long.

  • Can i use double buffering with SCAN_Sequence_Setup and sample rate divisors?

If possible I would like to use double buffering when acquiring multiple channels at different rates using SCAN_Sequence_Setup. What are the tricks to sizing the buffers, if any.
PCI-MIO-16Xe-10 and PCI-6052E are the boards I'm writing for, using Borland C++ builder under Windows2000
    Thanks,
    Brady

    Hello;
At this time, you can't set up a multiple Scan Rate for different channels at same DAQ board. But, you can set up your Sample Rate to the fastest required to acquire you fastest channel, and then discard the readings of the other channels and only take the values for the different channels at their theoretical rate.
    Hope this helps.

  • How can I continuously streaming data to disk with 1MHz sampling rate with PCI 6110?

I can only save 3 seconds data with 1MHz sampling rate using PCI 6110. Is it possible to continuously save longer time data (say 1 minute)?
    Many thanks

if the binary file is big the ASCII file is very very very big.
    1 measurement is coded in a I16 => 2Bytes ( 4bit is not used 611X is 12bit
    card)
    if you use +/-1V range the quantum is (2 * 1V) / 4096 = 0.0004883V or 0.4883
mV you need to use 8 digits minimum.
And If your binary file is 1 Mo your ASCII file is 4 Mo.
You can use this VI for inpiration you need to add the translate I16 to DBl
to make a real value before saving.

  • Setting the sampling rate in SignalExpress

I am using a cDAQ-9172 with a strain gauge module and a thermocouple module and using SignalExpress.  I want to acquire data at a pretty low frequency rate (2Hz), but I am unable to use 1 sample on demand in the acquisition setup.  I get the following error.
Error -201087 occurred at DAQ Assistant
    Possible Reason(s):
Measurements: Task contains physical channels on one or more devices that require you to specify the Sample Clock Rate.
    Specify a Sample Clock Rate.
    Device: cDAQ1
I am unable to setup a sample clock rate as it is 'blacked' out by the software in the 1 sample on demand mode.
When I try to use continuous or 'N' sample mode, the cDaq is sampling at a rate of around 1600 Hz, even though I am putting in a value of 1Hz on the seti[ screen.  The large amount of data will prevent me from downloading the data to Excel for further reporting.  I obviouisly don't need to sample my TC module at that rate either.
Is there anything I can 'easily' do to decrease the sampling rate down to a low level?  Everything I have tried doesn't seem to work and I don't really want to go away from SignalExpress.
    Jay

    Hi Jay
I am assuming that you are using the NI-9237.  This strain module has only a specific set of sampling rates.  If you specify a rate that is not supported it will corers the rate to the next higher sampling rate.  Also since you are using the cDAQ chassis, there is only sample clock so it must choose the highest sampling rate.  So it is not possible to sample at a lower rate.  Please see the following link.
If you have access to LabVIEW then I would suggest taking your readings at the fast rate and then average the samples before you write them to your file.  The following link has some more information on this.
If you are limited to Signal Express, this task is tricky.  If you select a N-Sample acquisition, set the samples to read to greater than two, and set the post acquisition delay  under the execution control tab to 1000, you acquisition will acquire the two samples at the very fast rate, but it will wait 1000mS between each acquisition.  This will slow the overall sample rate.

  • Graph data at a certain sampling rate

I am acquiring data at a sampling rate of 50kHz and I want to plot it on a graph or a chart continuously. The data is in an array which is connected to the graph/chart. I can see the signal (sine wave) but the time scales are not right. I have set "multiplier" field to 0.00002 to reflect my sampling rate but the start and end of the graph are not correct. They usually have a width of about 25 ms. How can I change it to 30 seconds? The graph should always be showing 30 seconds of data at any given moment.

Do you want it to be a graph or a chart?  They are 2 fundamentally different things.  A chart maintains a history of previous points and you can add to it a point or several points at a time.  A graph has no history and it only shows what you send to it at a given point of time.
One problem you'll have with a 50kHz sample rate and 30 seconds worth of data is that is 1.5 million samples.  That is way too many to truly be able to see on a graph or chart at one time where even a large display might only be 1000 pixels wide.
If you are using a waveform chart, you are probably seeing a limit on the chart history length which by default is 1024 data points.  At a 50kHz data rate, that would be about 20 ms worth of data.  Set the chart properties to have a larger history length.
