Can I automate 'Capture screen' on a remote Mac in Apple Remote Desktop?

Subject says it all really, I need to find a way to automate screen capture on an an ARD managed Mac.
Is it possible to automate 'Capture screen' on a remote Mac in ARD 3.3.2?
Cheers
Phil

You can cron or otherwise automate the following command:
screencapture -x silentscreenshot.jpg
The x switch means the machine will not play the shutter sound.

  • Can I build Azure RemoteApp template without Remote Desktop License ?

Can I build Azure RemoteApp template without Remote Desktop License ?
I want to build and update the Azure RemoteApp template by using same Hyper-V guest image continue.
    Message:
"Remote Desktop licensing mode is not configured"
    Environment 1: my on-premises Hyper-V guest.
Environment 2: my Azure Virtual Machine by "Windows Server Remote Desktop Session Host" image.
    Regards,
    Yoshihiro Kawabata

    Hi Yoshihiro,
If you are referring to RDS CAL, the answer is yes, you can build a template
without having an RDS CAL.  For on-premises you would still need rights to install Windows Server as a guest, but to build the template you do not need an RDS CAL because this use is for administrative purposes.
In the case of building the image on an Azure Virtual Machine you do not need Windows Server license since that is included in the pricing for the Virtual Machine.  As mentioned above you do not need an RDS CAL since you are only building a template
    image which is administrative use.
As always please review the appropriate documents that apply to your situation such as the Online Service Terms (OST), Product Use Rights (PUR), license agreement(s), etc. for precise details.
    Thanks.

  • How can i get mountain lion reinstalled if my mac says apple id never purchased? hd failed 2 wks after wty expired, I am the original owner, i have done command-r

how can i get mountain lion reinstalled if my mac says apple id never purchased? hd failed 2 wks after wty expired, I am the original owner, put another hd in, done command-r & sys reinstalled, but it wanted to update & now am stuck. I don't mind paying for mountain lion; it is too far to get to an apple store. but, i only have one mac, so i cannot download with another mac. lots of other apple, but only one mac.

You will need to do a network recovery:
    Install Lion/Mountain Lion on a New HDD/SDD
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
Boot to the Internet Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND-OPTION- R keys until a globe appears on the screen. Wait patiently - 15-20 minutes - until the Recovery main menu appears.
Partition and Format the hard drive:
    1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
    2. After DU loads select your external hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button. Be sure to select the correct drive to use if you have more than one.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Screen resolution on Remote desktop

Can someone please confirm if the native resolution of 1366 by 768 affects the way a remote desktop to a Windows PC is displayed ?

If you are using the MS client, v2, you should be able to size the window correctly in the settings/preferences. But, you are correct that the MBA screen is true 16:9 vs. the Windows which is probably 4:3

  • Can you buy just one license for remote desktop

i want to access a single computer from another laptop. is the 10 license copy of remote desktop all that is available? if so, can someone offer me any other solutions?
    thanks,
    mike

I use the VNC Client 'Chicken of the VNC' which you can get from here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/cotvnc/
Tiger already comes with a VNC Server installed - simply go to the control panel, click on 'Sharing' and turn on ARD as an option there. Then click on the button 'Access Privileges' and tick the option 'VNC viewers can take control of the screen with password...' (and put in a password too...).
VNC allows you to have pretty much complete control of the computer remotely - you see a window with the desktop visible on the computer running COTVNC (or whatever). However VNC does not support file transfer too / from or allow you to do things like install software remotely (and whatever else ARD would allow). But you can simulate most of these other ways if required.
    Hope this helps.

  • How can I Deny permissions to logon to Remote Desktop Session Host server in powershell script?

I am need of some assistance please. I am a system admin and I am trying to create a script that will assist with the tedious tasks I have to do with disabling a user that no longer works for the company.
I have created a script so far that will reset the users passwords and remove them from all groups (minus domain users).
I am trying to make it where it will deny permissions to logon to Remote Desktop Session Host server as well as give full mailbox permission to the manager in Exchange Server 2010.
I know with Exchange 2010, I will need to add the Powershell snapin. Is there a way for this to be added into the script? I am thinking to add the code:
    add-pssnapin Microsoft.exchange.management.powershell.e2010
Is there another way to do this? Any help or recommendations would be much appreciated.
    $ou = Get-ADUser -SearchBase "<*OU info here*>" -Filter * |
    Set-ADAccountPassword -Reset -NewPassword (ConvertTo-SecureString -AsPlainText "<*Password here*>" -Force)
    foreach ($user in $ou) {
    $UserDN = $user.DistinguishedName
    Get-ADGroup -LDAPFilter "(member=$UserDN)" | foreach-object {
    if ($_.name -ne "Domain Users") {remove-adgroupmember -identity $_.name -member $UserDN -Confirm:$False} }

Why not just disable the account? Why are you searching an OU foro users when you just want to terminate one user?
You can remotely connect an exchange session and manipulate the mailbox permissions.  You do not load a snap-in except on the Exchange server.
    $Session=New-PSSession -ConfigurationName Microsoft.Exchange -ConnectionUri http://<FQDN of Exchange 2013 Client Access server>/PowerShell/
    Import-PSSession $Session

We have a checklist we have to go through with the tasks listed. We have to keep to the account enabled until HR changes
the status which is usually 30-90 days depending. Managers sometimes need to access the accounts to retrieve information, etc. We put the users in an OU; once we are given permission from the manager we move forward in the removal.

  • Can Photoshop CS4 be deployed on Windows remote desktop server?

I tried installing Photoshop extended CS4 on a Windows Remote Desktop server (Windows 2008 R2 64bit) and it said it requires at least Windows XP or Vista 64bit as the OS requirement. I can either continue or quit. Can someone verify if this product can be deployed in RDS enviroment?
    Thanks

    Mark:
Thanks for the input. It worked. Interestingly, I first tried installing CS5 but the install just stopped. I then tried CS4 and it installed without trouble. For CS5, I have a downloaded copy of the software; for CS4, I have an actual physical DVD. I may explore this issue further at some later point. For now, having CS4 run is quite sufficient for testing and evaluation.
I realize that using thin clients will impose some amount of performance penalty, but my expectation is that the overall performance will be acceptable for most user tasks most of the time. I take it from your post this has been your experience. I will still provide a stand-alone machine for the small number of projects where the application is taxing the limits of the computer, and any limitations imposed by Remote Desktop are not acceptable.
Certainly, the software needs to be properly licensed, which Adobe is more than happy to provide. Through the thin client approach I hope to eliminate the maintenance and management headache of maintaining multiple, essentially identical, machines. And, I hope to reduce (by some small percentage) power costs.
    We'll see how it goes...

  • I can't get iphone screen mirroring to work via my  apple tv

I have ios5 on my phone, and an apple TV. I can not get the mirroring funcion to work on the Apple TV. I double click the home button on the phone, slide the bottom row of aps all the way to the right, and click on the Air Play symbol, but no luck. Any ideas?

Mirroring is working on my iPad2 and iPhone4S (IOS5) but not on my iPad (ios5) or iPhone 3G (IOS4).
As I understand it, mirroring is restricted to iPad2 and iPhone4S on ios5.
    Hope that helps.

  • HOW CAN I RESTORE MY ITUNES BACKUP FROM MY MAC BOOK TO MY DESKTOP MAC?

HOW CAN I RESTORE MY ITUNES IPHONE BACKUP FROM MY MAC BOOK TO MY DESKTOP MAC? THE REASON IS BECAUSE I HAVE TEXTFREE TEXT MESSAGES THAT I NEED FOR MY ATTORNEY AND WHEN I RESTORE IT FROM MY MACBOOK IT DOESNT INSTALL THE TEXTFREE BECAUSE I HAD DELETED ALL MY APPS IN ITUNES FROM IT. I HAVE ALL THE APPS ON MY DESKTOP MAC BUT I NEED TO KNOW HOW TO EXTRACT ONLY THE BACKUPS FROM THE MACBOOK AND IMPORT TO MY MAC DESKTOP. THE DESKTOP MAC IS THE ONE THAT HAS ALL OF MY LATEST BACKUPS. PLEASE SOMEONE HELP IF YOU KNOW THE ANSWER. THANKYOU

Easy. Copy it from the old Mac to the new one.
There are a variety of techniques including Setup Assistant (as soon as you get your new MacBook Air, it will ask you if you want to transfer information from another computer), Migration Assistant (if you elect to transfer information later), enabling file sharing between the two computers, or copying your music to a flash drive or other storage device followed by importing it to iTunes.
iTunes: How to move your music from one computer to another
Once your music library and everything else you want to transfer from the MacBook Pro resides on the new MBA, sync your iPod to the MBA. Sync the iPhone too when you get it, and they will both have identical iTunes music libraries.

  • Capturing screen to movie – need tools that Apple use

I've seen this video tutorial about Leopard: http://www.apple.com/macosx/guidedtour/
pay attention to zoom-in and zoom-out effects. I need these effects in my video lessons too. What tool does Apple use? It's seems that it's not Snapz Pro. What can it be?

I am pretty sure that is done in the editing stages.
(bring screen capture in to final cut pro, and zoom / pan / etc.)

  • How can I do a screen dump on my Mac?

I am trying to print off a list of tracks from iTunes but if I copy and paste into Word it doesn't print in proper order so I'm now trying to do a screen dump but can't remember how to do it.  Can anyone help please?

A screen shot? Click here on the proper instructions. Or, are you wanting just the text, not picture?

  • Can I automatically import multiple iCal appointments with addresses to Apple Maps?

I am planning an itinerary and I have all of the addresses for museums and restaurants in iCal. I would now like to see all of these locations on Apple Maps. Is it possible to import them all?

I relaced an older AEBS with the new one, recently, and did not need to import anything, but if you can save the configuration file from your old one, then you can import it to the new one. I've never tried that when I switched, and it didn't seem to matter which suggests the configuration file may be on disk somewhere.

  • Can I get 5.1 Surround Sound from Mac to Apple TV?

    Hi,
I have an iPad, iPhone and an Apple TV, and I love airplay, such a great feature!
I'm thinking of replacing my desktop for a mac and I was wondering; if I had a 5.1 surround encoded video file on my mac, would I be able to push the whole screen to Apple TV through mirroring and still get the 5.1 sound output to my audio receiver and speaker setup?
I'm NOT asking if I can airplay an mp4 encoded movie through iTunes at 5.1; I know I can already do that on my desktop and it works fine.
What I'm looking for is the ability to simply mirror what's playing on the mac to my hdtv through Apple TV, while still retaining the full 5.1 surround mix and outputting it to my audio receiver (i.e. Without having to convert the file type and drag it or play it in iTunes).
So before I take the plunge and spend over a grand on a mac, is this possible?
If this isn't possible I will probably just get a Mac mini and plug it directly into my receiver via hdmi. I can't see any problems doing it that way (I hope!)
Any info here would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,
Thanks for your assistance, but I spent quite some time researching this before posting, and the post you link to (which I've already read) doesn't actually answer my question, that person is asking about his wireless speakers receiving individual sound channels through airplay. Other discussions, which I've also looked at, seem inconclusive.
I was really posting in the hopes of finding anyone who had personal experience of trying to play a fullscreen, 5.1 surround video file using airplay mirroring from their mac to their Apple TV, and if they received 5.1 sound.
Thanks again for your help though.
