Can I back up the songs from my iPod touch on my computer if my iPod Touch is lost or breaks?

I have over 700 songs on my iPod Touch and am worried that I will lose them if my iPod is lost, stolen or breaks. If the songs are already on my hard drive, I cannot find them anywhere in the iPod directory.  Are they there? How can I find them? If not already, can I make a copy on my hard drive?  How?

The songs on my iPod Video 5th Gen now, were at one time on my computer, but have since been erased. Why can't I export the songs from my iPod back on to my computer? I have this same problem with my other devices (iPad 3rd Gen and iPod Nano 6th Gen). I am really frustrated now, because it seems as if I have to start all over again. This will be a royal pain in the butt! I don't understand why Apple makes this so hard and impossible to do this. Please help, anybody!!

  • Here's the exact scenario with it: 1) Ipod connected successfully to iTunes. 2) Drag song from Library(in AAC format) to My Ipod. 3) Song plays successfully in iTunes. BTW: This is one of the songs from my cd. Not bought. 4) Eject Ipod. 5) Find song in

Here's the exact scenario with it:
    1) Ipod connected successfully to iTunes.
    2) Drag song from Library(in AAC format) to My Ipod.
    3) Song plays successfully in iTunes.
BTW: This is one of the songs from my cd. Not bought.
    4) Eject Ipod.
    5) Find song in Ipod and press play.
    6) Display for song and time appear.
    7) About 1/3 of a second of the song plays, then it cuts out and restarts itself. (boots me back to apple logo)

Nope - and it was set to not look for them.
The final clue came when I tried hooking the drive directly to the computer, instead of to the airdisk. iTunes still hung. Then I disconnected the drive and tried to run it, and iTunes came up right away - but with an ! next to each song. Clearly it was trying to find/touch every file in the library on first startup.
I didn't try plugging in the drive and leaving the hanging iTunes running for more than a few minutes, so it's possible that it would have recovered and launched. But after removing the XML file, restoring the library to my pre-7.7 version, I could hear it accessing the directly attached drive (and see it in disk activity in the monitor) for a few minutes (less than I'd left the hanging one trying), before it came up.
    Conclusion:
    1) 7.7 is definitely trying to touch/see all the files in the library on first launch (proved by the ! when they are missing).
    2) Disconnecting/interrupting the touch/see MAY have corrupted something (can't prove it).
    3) Since touching 10,000 files takes a LONG time even at 802.11n speeds (let alone b or g), it's worth the hassle to plug the drive in directly for the first time.
    4) Patience is a virtue

  • How do I back up the songs from my entire itunes library (plus extra)?

I want to update my iTunes from iTunes 7 to iTunes 8. And I want to back up my entire iTunes library first (just in case some crap goes down, lol), but I don't want to just back up the songs without all the information that comes along with it (Date Added, Rating, etc.). Is there a way I could do that? Thanks in advance.

Consolidating pulls in copies of any files that are outside the iTunes Music folder. It's up to you where you store your music but if it's outside the iTunes Music folder then this approach may cause problems. If you want to back up your library then backup everything. There are two approaches - one is to copy everything exactly as it's laid out now to a new location from where you could pick & choose what to copy back in the event of a disaster. The other is to use iTunes built-in backup program, or that of a 3rd party, to backup to DVD or files in some proprietry format and hope you can restore them when the time comes.
I use SyncToy 2.0, a free tool from MS. Copy your entire iTunes folder & any other media folders onto another hard drive or network share. After making your initial backup copy use SyncToy to periodically synchronise or echo your library to the backup. A preview will show which files need to be updated giving you a chance to spot unexpected changes and during the run only the changed files will be copied saving lots of time.
If you do keep all your Music inside the *iTunes\iTunes Music* folder then, as a bonus, a library backed up in this fashion can also be opened and tested using the "Hold down SHIFT while launching iTunes" feature which lets you choose a new library.
If you are only interested in backing up the organisational part of the library, so you could roll back after upgrading for example, copy all of the main iTunes folder and it's subfolders, except for *iTunes Music*, to your backup location.

  • Can't download all the songs from an album

Can anyone advise what I am doing wrong?
I downloaded an album on my iPhone one morning (Brits 2014 - 62 tracks), I have managed to get it into itunes on my laptop and also transferred the songs onto my iPad and iPod - for some reason (unbeknown to be) I am unable to get the complete album onto my PC at work. Only about half of the 62 tracks have come across...
I have checked for available downloads, but it says everything is up to date
Does anyone have any ideas on how to sort this please?

Depending on what country that you are in you might be able to re-download them (what you can re-download where is shown on this page). If you are in one of those countries then try deleting the entries for the songs from your computer's iTunes library (you don't have to delete the actual songs, just the iTunes entries) and then see if you can re-download them - I think that if iTunes sees an entry for something in your library then it assumes that you already have it and that there is therefore no need to re-download it.
If you are in a country where music can't be re-downloaded then you could try the 'report a problem' link from your purchase history : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1933

  • Trying to download my purchases from my iPod but it is not working. I have a new OS on an old computer and I can't even download the songs from iTunes because it thinks the songs are already on this computer. What should I do?

Tried to back up music before new OS was loaded but for some reason, it only kept artists through the letter J. I did not realize that until I restored my iTunes under new OS. Now I tried to download my iTunes purchases from the iPod and I can select the "Transfer Purchases from iPOD" but then nothing seems to happen. I tried to download form iTunes and it says the songs are already on my computer. This is either because I did originally download them to this computer on the old operating system or because the names are still in iTunes even though the file associated with them is not. I'm not sure. I don't know what to try next but it is nearly 600 songs so I need to figure it out.

Does iTunes recognize the phone at all? Or just the computer?

  • New laptop, why can't I play the songs from my nano? Help!!!

Please help,I have bought a new laptop (windows XP) I plugged in my nano and my songs appeared in
'my ipod'and my playlists but not in the library.I have authorised the laptop but I still cannot click on my songs and play them (they are not in bold print) I downloaded 1 new song from the shop to authorise my computer and it played that but not the stuff that is on my nano (this includes tunes that I have bought from itunes and imported from cds).I don't know what else I can try, been trying this for 3 hours now, can anyone help me please?

You can't sync or drag your non iTMS music back directly from an iPod to iTunes. The transfer of non iTMS content is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod to discourage it's use as a device for mass file sharing. However there is a manual (free) method of accessing the iPod's hard drive and copying songs back to iTunes on Windows posted in this thread: MacMuse - iPod to iTunes

  • An older style Ipod has over 10,000 songs on it.  The original computer that contained these songs on itunes has since been replaced.  Can itunes/match get the songs from this ipod to store in match and then put on new computer/itunes?

Can this new service of itunes/match allow you to retrieve songs from an older style ipod, store them in match, and then download them onto a new computer/itunes?  The original computer that contained these songs has since been replaced b/c it broke down.  There were alot of songs on there and now I can't get the songs onto my new computer.  Can match work from ipod > match > computer?

Only if it is an iPod touch that you can turn on iTunes Match.

Did you make a backup of all the  important files on this computer before it broke down?
    Try this -> http://www.yamipod.com/main/modules/home/
Then backup your computer after you recover the items.

  • Trying to download song from iTunes on my iPhone 4, it downloads 2.2mb, then restarts; does this about 3-4 times, then says unable to download... I can't get it to download the song at all. Can't even delete the song from the download queue or anything.

It's starting to **** me off, especially since there is no visible "settings" in iTunes. I've tried resuming the download, it just downloads to 2.2mb and then restarts 3-4 times again, I've tried restarting my phone, I've looked up stuff, but can't find a **** thing that works. One thing said to swipe to the left from the down arrow on the right of the download (the tap to resume button), but the delete option doesn't show up when I do that... Anybody have any idea how I can just get my PURCHASED song to actually download?

    Similar issues here.
I purchased five movies for download and having nothing but problems getting them downloaded. I keep receiving error messages and the download stops and I have to restart it, just to get another minute worth of download with each restart. Now Apple has my money and I have nothing.

  • How can I delete all the songs from my iPhone 5s.

The software is up to date so its not that. I have also turned off the 'show all' option and there are still tracks left. It won't let me drag the songs sideways to delete, and when I connect the phone on my iTunes and click un-sync it from my music it STILL doesn't remove all of it (despite a message saying this will remove all songs and playlists- rubbish).
Hey Apple your new itunes is awful. Any solutions would be appreciated.

    Go to your Settings.
    *General
    *Usage
then find your music, swipe over it from right to left. "Delete" option will come and and just press.
Ta da..  Just managed myself so I am very happy/proud

  • HT1296 why can't i sync the songs from my cd's onto my ipod

    Don't know.
    Hve you tried a reset?

  • Why can't I download the songs from my ipod to my compute

I'm getting insanely frustrated right now. I got an ipod about a month ago and was ecstatic. I could finally get the 12 gb of music off my computer (all songs I've taken the time to copy from my own legal cds) and onto my ipod. So I got the new itunes and I copied copied all the files to my library and then from there onto my ipod.
I then made sure they all played on the ipod and once they did I made sure that itunes was set to manually manage songs and then removed them from my library clearing my hard drive of them.
Then my ipod starts having issues, it will just randomly restart for no apparent reason, so I take it in to the apple store and they just want to restore it which will wipe all my music. So I say uhm no, can I please back it up first and they say they don't support that.
What the heck is going on here, why does it make any sense to have to leave the music on teh computer?!? It's a portable music device!
I found there are programs that will copy the files back but they cost money which makes no sense. Basically Apple has hijacked my songs and won't give them back.
I'd email them directly about the issue but I can't find any sign of an email link anywhere on teh webpage.
Any help would be much appreciated and please forgive the rant but I'm really getting sick of my ipod restating constantly.

  • Ipod touch 5 - when in song suffle mode, a random album will suddenly appear on the screen and then it is difficult to get back to the song that is playing

Just "upgraded" to a new ipod touch 5th generation after previously using various ipod classics.  So I am not familiar with all the ins and outs of the device.  One thing that I have a problem with is the fact that there does not seem to be a simple way, while in shuffle mode to quickly move to the next song or back to the prior song.  But forgetting that for a moment, here is my problem and I am trying to figure out if it is a bug or simply some kind of "feature" of the ipod touch that I don't get.
I am playing music...in song - shuffle mode.  All of a sudden, instead of the particular song that is playing, a different album shows up on the screen.  Meanwhile, the original song keeps playing.  When this happens, sometimes that album then starts playing and sometimes I am able to move the ipod touch in various directions and I can get back to the song that I was originally playing.  Any idea what is happening here and how to stop it?
    Thanks for any help.

    Hello Philly,
I believe that when you reset your ipod(command given from the computer, right?)  touch WHILE the ipod was updating, It cleared the system in the middle of writing files, thus corrupting(equivalent of cutting of in the middle of a sentence) the basic running system.
I suggest you go to an apple store and ask for a technical diagonosis in person. they may offer to help if the problem is fixable. If your ipod is still under warrenty, i would guess it would be free/low cost.
