Can I change Web Gallery "Key Photos"?

In the album overview, I have not been able to figure out how the album chooses the "Key Photo" that represents the album.
I haven't experimented fully, but it seems that a Key Photo from an Event made into an album follows to the Web Album, but I have several albums and smart albums I also need galleries of.

Oops, there it is. "Make Key Photo" from the "Events" menu.

Help? Can I change my WEP key on my router?

Hi All...
I'm a newbie to these forums and I have a question... Can I change my WEP key on my FiOS wireless router? (Actiontec MI424-WR Rev. D)
My neighbor, who also watches our dog when we go on holiday, has been using my internet from his house. He freely admitted this. My FiOS is much faster than his throttled Comcast and since he's a power user (torrents) he frequently uses my internet connection for all his massive downloads. His usage knocks me off PS3 and noticeably slows my internet speeds down.
I know he has my IP and WEP since he spends weeks at a time in my house. I'd like to change my WEP key and keep it hidden from him.
How can I kick him off and prevent him from hopping back on?

Well... theft of services issues aside since what your neighbor is doing is illegal ...
I agree with Justin. Go with a WPA2 connection and use a reasonably long and complex password. I'd change the SSID as well although that's not absolutely required. Also make sure you change the userid/password on the router as well in case they know it. Don't get wrapped up in hiding the SSID or turning on Mac authentication -- while they don't necessarily hurt, they don't add anything appreciable to the equation and just make your own life more difficult.
Now ... I'm going ask, are you even using the the wireless at all? Perhaps you are using a hardwired PC to the router and really don't need the wireless? If so, just go into the router and turn the wireless off. Your neighbor can't steal what isn't there.
Oh ... and it might be time to get the key back and find a new dog sitter.

Sure - butyour text boxes may need work since being a different size may affect the view - to change duplicate the book just in case (select it and press command - D) and then go to themes and select the same theme in teh new size - closly verify the modified book and preview it -
Before ordering your book preview it using this method - http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1040 - and save the resulting PDF for reference - the delivered book will match it.

Web Gallery duplicating photos

I seem to have a consistent problem of photo duplicating themselves when I add new photos to a Web Gallery. The duplications don't show up on the actual Web gallery but are present within iPhoto, for example iPhoto says there are 96 images and the Web Gallery says 73. This problem only occurs when I add images to an existing Web Gallery and not when creating a new Web Gallery from selected images or albums. If you delete the 'dupe' all instances of the same image are deleted. Anyone else having this problem? any ideas to fix it?

My gallery/iphoto wish list is to have this solved and then to allow the gallery albums to have sub albums within them. Im talking 1600 thumbnail photos per student, 21 students!

I think you want to change the key photo - to do this open the web gallery in iPhoto (click on it in the source pane - the left hand list) and find the photo you want as the key photo and drag it to the little thumbnail at the upper left of the window to the left of the gallery name

Web Gallery Maximum Photo Size

After evaluating the .mac service, I came to learn that the photos I import into iPhoto08 and subsequently upload to a .mac web gallery are modified (downsized/compressed). See the following link for details: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1071. I would imagine that for most people, limiting the picture size to 6 megapixels probably isn't a big deal. However, in my case I have a Canon 5D camera, use Photoshop CS3 to edit my photos, and use an Epson 3800 Pro to print my photos. I take great care to ensure that my photos are of the highest quality. When I share them with family/friends, I want them to have these very same high quality photos that I worked on. Given the fact that you are paying for space with a .mac account (10 GB), I'm having a hard time understanding why Apple forces this picture size limitation. Why does Apple care how big my photos are? Does anybody else feel the same way?
As a point of comparison, I've been happily using Smugmug for the past couple years to share photos with family/friends. I pay $40/year, have unlimited storage/downloads, Smugmug renders 7 different viewing resolutions (generated on their server, not on my harddrive), does not alter my photos in any way, and enables my family/friends to order prints.

Basically at this time I'd say that the answer for you is not to use iPhoto galleries - they are a very nice consumer tool - if they are not up to your quality standard then you are free to use any solution you wish

Can't Read Web Gallery Announcements

Is it at all possible to change the preferences for the announcements ("Tell a Friend" button) on the web gallery? When I use it to send out an announcement, you can hardly read it! The writing is so light that people cannot read their log in and password to get into the galleries. I have checked this on several computers. I am using the latest version of iPhoto: 7.0.2 and am up-to-date on everything.

Select the text underneath the graphic in the email and use the Font button to change thesize and color of the font. You can change the color with the color button. If you don't have those buttons in your tool bar go to the Vies->Customize Toolbar menu and put them in the toolbar.

TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. How can I change the order of photos within an event?

iPhoto o9 won't let me change the order of photos within a single event- really annoying! I tried to view photos then click manual sort- but when I look back at the event it is not in the right order. what's wrong? Or can I even do this?

Yes you can do that - IF you go through and assign titles to every photo
You also can change the date/time on photo and iPhoto will then sort them in the new order
And you could assign unique key words to each photo such that the sort order is what you want and sort by key word
But you can not change the order in the sense most people mean - grab a photo and move it to a new location in an event
So yes you are right

Flash Web Gallery large photo border erratic behavior

In Lightroom HTML Web Gallery one can define border styles for the displayed photos. I cannot find a similar future in the Flash Gallery however. Is there one??? In any case, the first 6 photos in my Flash Web Gallery appear with a black border around the main large displayed photos. The subsequent photos do not have any border. In either case, it would be nice to have the border appearance consistent and preferably user definable.
Any help is appreciated.

Thanks for that. A bit more digging - preview in browser is fine and export to harddrive then runs in browser OK. I tried HTML gallery and got the same error (No 2 says a file was truncated) so I chucked it all at another server and it seems to be OK. Looks like an ISP problem.
Those unconnected problems were:
Despite repairs I still can't burn to CD, it still says it's been disabled. I don't miss the feature but I like to think my installation is fully functional.
I still seem to have a memory leak in that if I crop,edit and export 46 images as jpg it falls over, very politely - sorry for the inconvenience etc but this is repeatable, yesterday it crashed at 46 and 92 images. I wonder if my 2.3 install was OK and this was behind the second part of my question.

Iphoto not uploading to Web Gallery - all photos "pending"

I added some more photos to my existing Web Gallery folders, plus created a new one by dragging them into the Web Gallery folders. However, they all appear as "pending" and are not appearing on the web. I've stopped / restarted Iphoto and my Macbook. I've tried removing and adding other photos to the galleries. I've moved the "com.apple.iPhoto.plist" and "com.apple.iPhoto" files to the desktop as suggested in another post. None of these have worked.

Yes, and the icons next to the web gallery names alternate between an arrow that goes round in circles, something that looks like a pie-chart / clock, and one that looks like a wireless transmission icon. Hope you know what I mean.
When I open the web gallery page nothing has changed. I even left it going overnight.

Can't upload web gallery in LR2

I have tried changing all settings per a search of the forum, but I still can't upload a gallery. I receive a "an error occurred sending file: an unknown error occured" this comes after the images and when it starts building the gallery. tried flash and http galleries, same thing. I can save and upload with cute ftp just fine, but not LR.
anyone know a good tutorial on web galleries?

Hello - I don't have a solution, but I wanted to post some observations: Each time I click upload, a folder is created or some files are transferred to the host until all the folders have been created on the remote host. In other words, the FTP transfer continues until a MKD command is sent to the host. After that, LR throws an error and stops.
I even went to the extent of deleting all the files from a working gallery structure on the remote host, leaving the folders intact. One click on "Upload" copied all the files into the structure as desired with no error message.
My analysis is that the return code from the FTP host following a successful MKD command is being misinterpreted my LR as an error.
This stops the FTP transfer, but the folder is OK and in the right place on the host. The next upload command either creates another folder, or copies files to the host. Once the folder structure has been created on the host and the Upload contains only files, it goes OK.
A crummy work-around would be to keep an empty gallery folder structure at the client end, copy that via another FTP host, then have LR fill it up.

Can't see web gallery in iPhoto anymore

I had published an album in web gallery (iPhoto) about a week ago - I realize I can still upload pics by emailing but I prefer to edit in iPhoto - I can't see the web gallery in iPhoto anymore....?
I need help getting to it again.

Can you post Web-Gallery to a non .Mac server?

iPhoto 08 and web gallery look pretty neat.
Do you have to post the Web Galleries to .Mac or can you use a different server.
Would like to continue post our college sports photos to our campus (OS X) server using web-gallery.

Jack, I don't think you can post web galleries to a non .Mac server. There seems to be a lot of support behind the scenes that makes Web Gallery work as it does. Normal HTML doesn't work like that.
What you could do, which would bring some of the reflections-on-black look, is send the photos to iWeb and use the export HTML option (not sure what it's called) in the File menu to create a gallery that you could host on a non-.Mac server. It wouldn't look exactly the same but you'd get whatever is possible without the .Mac-supplied functionality.

Can I change the order of photos in Events

I am in the process of scanning my old film photos so that I can put them into iPhoto. As I have no scanner I take them to Wal Mart and scan them onto a CD then import them into iPhoto at home. Because the CD holds the photos from a number of events I then distribute them to a number of different Event folders.
Once I get all the photos into their correct Event folders I would like to rearrange their order. Using drag and drop, or cut and paste, simply leaves the photo in it's original location. If I use the 'Moving photos from one event to another' feature the moved photos will still go into the new Event folder in the same order as they were in the originating folder, regardless of what order I drag or paste them.
The help menu has topics on how to change the order of photos in a slideshow, book or calender, but not an event. I could arrange the photos beforehand so that they are scanned in the order in which I want them to appear in Events, but with 500+ photos in completely random order it will be fairly time consuming. It also will not help with the disc of photos I have already made.
So, to finally get to my question, does anybody know if there is a way to rearrange the order of photos within an Event folder?

Events are strictly time based. If you put those photos in an album and in the order you want, you can set their date and time by using the PHotos->Batch Change->Date and set the date and time you want with the checkbox to add the time differential you'd like between photos. That will reorder them in the Event also.

How can I change the order of photos in my fotostreams?

When selecting photos for a fotostream to share with friends the exported files appear in the order they were taken. If I add more pictures later, they are added at the end of the stream as if they were ne lastest taken pics.
How can I change that?
Exporting all of them and then creating a new stream brings back the real order, but destroys all comments.

Aperature is the same with PS - PS is PS
Lightroom - has nothing to do with sharing photos in any way - it is a photo manager with no connection to any other Apple products
FLickr and integrated into iPhoto and are easy ways to share photos - SmugMug also is popular
