Can I create a server with Time Capsule, where it would be possible for me to access files from any computer in my house?

I have a Time Capsule 1T, so not sure what gen that would be. But I am in college and have about 5 apple devices that my family uses in our house and it would be nice if we could share files through a network. Can I even be helped?

DropBox is another possibility for sharing files and it is free for the first 2GB of storage.

How can I Bkp my Iphone with Time Capsule?

No, you will have to re-create the playlists manually on the computer.  Did you somehow delete your iTunes Library and the content that exists within that library?  If you attempt to sync the phone with an iTunes Library that does not have all the content that the phone has, then the content on the phone will be replaced with the content from the computer.

  • How can I disable SSID broadcast with Time Capsule?

I have always disabled the SSID broadcast with other devices. It is a big help with securing the networks. Can this be done with Time Capsule? If yes, please tell me how.
    Thanks.

You can by turning on hidden network.
Open the airport utility .. click on your TC, and then edit.. go to the wireless TAB. Click on wireless options. Click Create hidden network.
Let me add in modern world.. it is totally useless. A person can see your hidden network using any standard wireless analysis software. It adds no security at all.. and WPA2 Personal with a decent password 10-20 characters mix of upper and lower case plus numbers is still solid.. add more characters if you are paranoid.. but honestly hiding SSID does nothing.

If you did not know it is not part of the IEEE wireless standard.. it therefore often leads to problems with clients.
There are many other reasons given in the article above..

  • Can i use existing airport with Time Capsule

i have already bought an airport, but can i use it with Time Capsule  OR do I need to buy the $299 Time Capsule wireless hard drive?

If you are telling us that you have already bought an AirPort Extreme, and that you want to connect a USB hard drive to the AirPort and use that for Time Machine backups, this is not officially supported by Apple.
Some users seem to be able to make this work, while others.....like me....who try this have nothing but problems.
To be officially supported, you need to connect a hard drive directly to your Mac for Time Machine backups or use a Time Capsule.

How i can wake on my mac through time capsule.

  • Creating wireless network with Time Capsule

    hi, I just have couple of questions before installing the time capsule;
so far I have been using cable DSL modem, so my question is - is it possible to set time capsule as a wireless router, or does time capsule still have to be connected with DSL modem and then act wiresly with iMac?
I was thinking if i could replace cable DSL modem with time capsule
    thank you

The Time Capsule has to be connected to your DSL modem. Otherwise you won't be able to connect to internet.

  • How can i connect plex app with time capsule

i have a time capsule 2TB and iphone 5s and ipad mini 2
i stored all my movies on the TC and i can acces them by imac and apple tv
i just bought plex for ipad and iphone and don't now how to connect to TC
i want play these movies by ipad by plex connected to TC but don't know how to
    please help

i just don't know to acces the TC with the plex app i tried several thing like port forwarding but can't figure it out
The plex app is a client.. you must be running a plex server in your network..
    https://plex.tv/ios
Since the Apple Time Capsule cannot host any media.. since it has no media extensions it is impossible to support plex server on it. You must run a plex server on a computer or intelligent device.. TC doesn't rate as it is a fixed router with nothing to help you.

  • Why can't I print wireless with Time Capsule anymore?

I have an Epson Stylus Photo 1280 that I have been printing wireless with for many years by plugging it in to the USB port on the back of the Time Capsule. Not anymore.
I have a MacBook Pro running the latest OS as well as the latest model Time Capsule running the latest software from Apple. I have tried using Airport Utility 5.6 which sees the printer plugged in. But when I try to add the printer to the Print & Scan system preferences, it shows up but says:
Software for this printer is available from Apple. Would you like to download and install it?
When I click "Download and Install" it searches for the software but then tells me:
The software for this printer is currently unavailable. Please contact the printer’s manufacturer for the latest software.
When I plug the printer directly into my MBP, I can add the printer and print without any problems.  Per Epson, I have the latest software for my printer, so I'm not sure why Apple needs to search for the software and download it in order for me to print using the Time Capsule.
Like I said before, this all use to work flawlessly. I'm assuming all the updates have "broken" something.
Thanks in advance for any help and suggestions.

    Well, I solved my problem.
I deleted the EPSON folder in Library/Printers as well as Library/Cache and installed the EPSON driver via Softwar Update.
    Everything is working fine now.

  • How come I can't see my ipad with time capsule?

When on my macbook pro and having the time capsule, i don't have visibility to my ipad on my mac? Why?!?!

    What visibility are you wanting??
If the ipad has internet via the TC, then it should be able to backup to itunes in the computer.. otherwise the computer will not really see the ipad at all.. it is not a network share.
The file structure of the ipad is deliberately hidden.. and therefore it does not see files on a TC or computer.
You can load a filebrowser app into the ipad.. but that will still not enable the computer to see the ipad.. it is still not a network resource.. AFAIK.. I don't have ipad.. so check what you are trying to do with the more like this on the right.. or in the ipad section.

  • Can't establish internet connection with Time Capsule

I currently have a wireless Linksys router and have switch over to TC.  I've connected my cable modem internet connection to the internet connection of the Time Capsule, however, with the Airport Utility it states that I do not have a valid IP Address.  I've check under the Manual setting for Internet and ensured that the connection says "share a public IP address", but that does not work.  Any ideas?

Did you remember to completely reset your cable modem and power cycle the network?
Push the reset button on the modem (if present)
    Power the modem down
Pull the batttery (if easily accessible)
Power down every device on the network....order is not important
    Wait at least 15-20 minutes
Make sure that you have the Ethernet cable from the modem connected to the WAN port (world icon) on the Time Capsule, and re-install the battery if it was pulled in the steps above
Power up the modem and let it run for 4-5 minutes by itself
Power up the Time Capsule the same way
Continue powering up devices one at a time about a minute apart until the network is powered back up
    Check network operation

  • Unable to Create Guest Network with Time Capsule

Time Capsule version: 7.6.1, AirPort Utility: 6.0(600.92), Cabel Modem Ambit U10C018, iMac w/ Mac OS X (10.7.3)
I have the Time Capsule installed as the only router. The Network settings, Router Mode is: DHCP and NAT. I am unable to find any tab or button for "Advanced" that will allow me to set up a guest network.  I am pretty sure that cable modem does not function as a router because when I changed the Time Capsule to Bridge I was unable to make any wireless connections.
Any help woudl be greatly appreciated, but I will be away from the computer for the next 3 hours.

We will assume that your Time Capsule is not one of the 1st Generation models, which did not have Guest Network capability.
But, if your Time Capsule is a few years old, or you purchased it from another user....you may have a single band version of the product....which cannot offer the Guest Network option.
If your Time Capsule has the capability....here is how to set up the Guest Network
Open AirPort Utility and click on the Time Capsule icon that appears
Click Edit in the next window that appears
Click the Wireless tab at the top of the window
Enter a check mark next to Enable Guest Network
Edit the name of the network as you wish
Select Wireless Security...either WPA2 Personal or WPA/WPA2 Personal would be good
Enter a password for the Guest Network and verify
Click Update at the lower right

  • Quick question!!  Is it mandatory that I set up my DSL through the time capsule? I'd like to leave my current modem from my provider as the primary unit for networking.  So in other words can I just set up the time capsule as a back-up device for now and

Quick question!!  Is it mandatory that I set up my time capsule as my DSL modem?  Based on the location of my iMAC right now it would be better to just leave the modem provided by my internet provider in place.  I really just want to use the time capsule as a back-up storage device for now and connnect the ethernet cable from my ISP at a later date.

Generally it is easier to bridge the TC and plug it into the router.. it then lives on the network.. it is after all, a network drive.. and you can access it via your existing connection whether wireless or wired to the existing modem.
If you really want a totally stand alone setup please tell me how you are presently accessing internet on the Mac you want to backup on the TC.

  • Access files from old computer backup (time capsule)

    Hello,
I had a MacBook Air that was stolen in a break-in to my apartment. I could not afford a new Air, so I bought a cheaper MacBook Pro. I've been using the Pro for a few months and just realized that I have a recent backup of my old computer (MacBook Air) on my Time Capsule.
How can I access this back-up to retrieve some files (pictures, documents) without doing a full restore of my new MacBook Pro and erasing everything on my new computer?
I tried using a program called "Back in Time" but it won't give me access to the Air's backup because it was a different computer.
Is there any program that will let me access the files on the Time Machine backup of my old computer so I can grab these files?
Thank you so much for the help!!!
    Dan

Hello McCartyYO. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
How can I access this back-up to retrieve some files (pictures, documents) without doing a full restore of my new MacBook Pro and erasing everything on my new computer?
Please check out this excellent Time Machine FAQ article from our Discussions Time Capsule/Time Machine expert, Pondini: 17. How can I see my backups, or the Backups for a different Mac?

  • Can I backup my iPad with Time Capsule

I have recently set up my new TC and need to know if it can be configured to automatically backup my iPad. I rarely use anything other than my iPad.

No. An iPad cannot backup to a TC. iTunes backs up the iPad. Time Machine will backup your iTunes folder and all other relevant folders to the TC.

  • Creating home network with time capsule

Can a home net work be setup that allows for the extra Ethernet. Outputs to drive a printer?

Just to add to Bob's comment..
If you buy a switch.. buy gigabit.. they are cheap enough now.. and brand is not a big deal for unmanaged switch.. and buy one with enough ports for everything in the house and then some.. try not to use any port on the TC except the one uplink to the switch.. that tends to keep traffic in the switch where it belongs.
Printers these days are ethernet and wireless.. for very little extra.. either can be connected easily to the TC as it is merely a network client.. the printer itself handles the print jobs.. rather than using the usb on the TC which has limitations.
