Can I download software from App store that I already own the disc without being charged?

I own Call of Duty 4 on disk and it is loaded on my MBP, but I was wondering if I can download it from the App store so that any updates, for example, can be kept up to date, without being charged again for the software?

No unfortunately that is not possible. If you bought the app on disk you would have to buy it again to get it from the app store.

Are you listing the billing address for the card correctly? The address in the iTunes/MAS account must match the address on your bill exactly.

I can't download anything from app store and ibook , when I download something it keeps waiting and nothing happen I tried 3G and wifi and the same problem
I tried to rest all the settings and nothing happened

Try resetting the App Store.
Reset Learned from Old Toad
and you can try:
- Sign out of the App Store (in the Store menu)
- Quit the App Store
- In Finder - Go>Go to folder... (or Apple-shift-G)
- Paste in the following "~/Library/Caches/ "
- It will take you to a folder. Delete com.apple.appstore
- Launch the App Store.

If you want to upgrade to iphoto 11 then you'll need to either
1. Upgrade your OS to 10.7.5 - which requires a purchase of the OS

2. Find an iLife 11 install disk. You may get one on Amazon or Ebay.

Hello, I'm just writing this because i can't upgrade my Macbook air 2013mid from Yosemite beta to alpha version of Yosemite, i can't update iTunes from App Store - i have to upgrade it only via apple.com download, i did not receive any updates and when i try to hit tab Updates in Appstore it says that there is a problem with swscan.apple.com certificate. 1. This procedure is a diagnostic test. It changes nothing, for better or worse, and therefore will not, in itself, solve the problem. But with the aid of the test results, the solution may take a few minutes, instead of hours or days.
Don't be put off by the complexity of these instructions. The process is much less complicated than the description. You do harder tasks with the computer all the time.
2. If you don't already have a current backup, back up all data before doing anything else. The backup is necessary on general principle, not because of anything in the test procedure. Backup is always a must, and when you're having any kind of trouble with the computer, you may be at higher than usual risk of losing data, whether you follow these instructions or not.
There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional. Ask if you need guidance.
3. Below are instructions to run a UNIX shell script, a type of program. As I wrote above, it changes nothing. It doesn't send or receive any data on the network. All it does is to generate a human-readable report on the state of the computer. That report goes nowhere unless you choose to share it. If you prefer, you can act on it yourself without disclosing the contents to me or anyone else.
You should be wondering whether you can believe me, and whether it's safe to run a program at the behest of a stranger. In general, no, it's not safe and I don't encourage it.
In this case, however, there are a couple of ways for you to decide whether the program is safe without having to trust me. First, you can read it. Unlike an application that you download and click to run, it's transparent, so anyone with the necessary skill can verify what it does.
You may not be able to understand the script yourself. But variations of the script have been posted on this website thousands of times over a period of years. The site is hosted by Apple, which does not allow it to be used to distribute harmful software. Any one of the millions of registered users could have read the script and raised the alarm if it was harmful. Then I would not be here now and you would not be reading this message.
Nevertheless, if you can't satisfy yourself that these instructions are safe, don't follow them. Ask for other options.
4. Here's a summary of what you need to do, if you choose to proceed:
☞ Copy a line of text in this window to the Clipboard.
☞ Paste into the window of another application.
☞ Wait for the test to run. It usually takes a few minutes.
☞ Paste the results, which will have been copied automatically, back into a reply on this page.
The sequence is: copy, paste, wait, paste again. You don't need to copy a second time. Details follow.
5. You may have started the computer in "safe" mode. Preferably, these steps should be taken in “normal” mode, under the conditions in which the problem is reproduced. The whole line will highlight, though you may not see all of it in the browser window, and you can then copy it. Copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C.
8. Launch the built-in Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.
Click anywhere in the Terminal window and paste by pressing command-V. The text you pasted should vanish immediately. If it doesn't, press the return key.

and press return. Then paste the script again.
10. If you're logged in as an administrator, you'll be prompted for your login password. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. You will not see the usual dots in place of typed characters. Make sure caps lock is off. Type carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. If you make three failed attempts to enter the password, the test will run anyway, but it will produce less information. In most cases, the difference is not important. If you don't know the password, or if you prefer not to enter it, press the key combination control-C or just press return three times at the password prompt. Again, the script will still run.
If you're not logged in as an administrator, you won't be prompted for a password. The test will still run. It just won't do anything that requires administrator privileges.
11. The test may take a few minutes to run, depending on how many files you have and the speed of the computer. A computer that's abnormally slow may take longer to run the test. While it's running, there will be nothing in the Terminal window and no indication of progress. Wait for the line
[Process completed]
to appear. If you don't see it within half an hour or so, the test probably won't complete in a reasonable time. In that case, close the Terminal window and report what happened. No harm will be done.
12. When the test is complete, quit Terminal. The results will have been copied to the Clipboard automatically. They are not shown in the Terminal window. Please don't copy anything from there. All you have to do is start a reply to this comment and then paste by pressing command-V again.
At the top of the results, there will be a line that begins with the words "Start time." If you don't see that, but instead see a mass of gibberish, you didn't wait for the "Process completed" message to appear in the Terminal window. Please wait for it and try again.
If any private information, such as your name or email address, appears in the results, anonymize it before posting. Usually that won't be necessary.
13. When you post the results, you might see an error message on the web page: "You have included content in your post that is not permitted," or "You are not authorized to post." That's a bug in the forum software. Please post the test results on Pastebin, then post a link here to the page you created.

I would quit the app, since you see it's open, and close all the other apps, then go to settings and reset network settings. The iPad will reboot. Then when it's back again, do a search for "Netflix" which will show you the location of the app (in the search results)
From my search, you'll see I have it located in a folder I created ...

Downloaded software from App Store crashes on launch

I downloaded a trial version of a sofware program (Pixelator). After installing and using it to make sure it met my needs, I purchased it from the App Store. App Store downloaded another copy of the software then tried to launch it. Now the software won't start; it crashes when launching. The App Store lists the software as "Installed". How do I get this software (and App Store) to work?

Can't download Mavericks from App Store "you have updates available" error

I am running Lion which came with my iMac and it's up to date. I wanted to finally upgrade to Mavericks so I started downloading it a few days ago, but cancelled the download because it was taking so long. So today, I went to start it again and now I'm getting the error: "You have updates available for other accounts Sign in to (my account) to update applications for that account." I have no other Apple accounts. I have searched for this error here an all over the web and performed all of the suggestions: repair permissions, Spotlight, you name it, I've tried it. I even had an older Mavericks install file on an external and it just bounced and wouldn't install.
Any new suggestions?

OK, I'm answering my own question here in case it will help others.
I suppose you could call it user stupidity, but I'll say it's bad user experience on the part of the App Store.
I went ahead and clicked the "Install App" button, hoping I would then have the option to just download but not (reinstall) Mavericks. That is exactly what happens.
The App Store displays a warning to the effect of:
You already have Mavericks installed on this machine. Do you want to continue and just download the installer?
You click the 'Continue' button and you're good to go.

I've got Beta 6 installed from the App Store. The released version not available in Updates or Purchased. Selected from Featured says I have 10.10 installed already. Pressing Continue results in nothing ... so can't install from App Store. What do I do now??

I've been using Windows 7 exclusively on my MacBook via Boot Camp for several years. I've since deleted the Windows partition. I ran a Software Update and am currently running OS X 10.6.8. I want to upgrade OS X further but can't download Yosemite (or anything) from the App Store. I click "get" and the button becomes unclickable but nothing happens. I also can't open iTunes.
I don't have anything on this computer that needs to be saved so I'm more than willing to restore, though I don't know how.

I'm having the exact same issue in the exact same situation.
I'm getting the error below in Console every time I try to install or download anything from the App Store. I suspect this has something to do with Safari and some Javascript code being used by Appstore pages.
I wish there was a direct link to download Yosemit. I'm stuck now...

Can't download Lion from app store or anywhere else

When I search for OS X Lion in the app store as directed on Apple's site, all I get are some related books and a few random apps -- not the system software itself. When I click the "upgrade to Lion" buttons on Apple's site, I get a message saying Safari can't open the page because it doesn't recognize an address starting with "macappstore." I get a similar message when I use Firefox. The whole thing is very circular; the upgrade buttons lead nowhere, and the app store doesn't seem to sell Lion. Any ideas as to what's happening, or, more important, where I can buy Lion online? Thanks.

You don't use Safari to open the MAS - it is in application in your Applications Folder and should be in your dock as well. Looks like this:
If you launch that app, you will find Lion.

Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears

I have been trying to download iPhoto from the desktop app store to my MacBook Pro. No probs downloading other apps. Signed in with my Apple ID to make the purchase etc. After I click on "Install" it loads up - takes quite a while - then nothing happens and it seems not to complete - it just shows the "Install" button again and I have to go through it all again, with the same result! Help! It's so annoying!

Contact the support on the App Store. You've bought it but they haven't managed to deliver it.
