Can I extract images from Apple Works?

Hi!
I am a graphic designer. A client just sent me a disk of artwork, which turned out to be a single Apple Works file with a dozen high-resolution images in it. Is there a simple way to extract those images (for use in other applications such as Photoshop) at their original resolution?
I know all the data is in there, since the file weighs in at about 90mb. But I can't drag-and-drop to the desktop, and cutting/pasting seems to give me reduced-sized images. (In other words, if a photo is 4" x 3" in the AppleWorks document, I get a 4" x 3" 72dpi image when I paste into Photoshop. )
edit > picture info does show me the total size of the image, and lets me know which are high-rez. I can click on "show picture bounds" and the image expands to full size, cropped only by the page. However, I cannot cut-and-past that image into PhotoShop... Apple Works doesn't seem to let me copy it at all.
It would make my day if there turns out to be a simple command or program that could just pull out all embedded images.
Thanks!
Power PC G4   Mac OS X (10.4.2)   AppleWorks 6.2.7

It's not clear, but do you have AppleWorks that you are opening this document with? If so, open the file, I assume it's an AppleWorks draw document, & Save As… PICT (choose it from the File Format drop-down menu). You could do it as one big image & then crop in Photoshop or copy & paste each image into to a blank AppleWorks draw document & Save As… each one as an individual PICT file.
PICT is the preferred graphics format for AppleWorks. Any images imported into AppleWorks other than PICT are changed to 72 dpi where PICT retains the native resolution. Exporting/saving as PICT also seems to result in better images. Of course, if the original images weren't PICT when they were put into the AppleWorks file, you're not going to be able to improve them any more.

  • How can I extract images from Numbers?

Sounds a bit stupid but how do you extract images from Apples 'Numbers 3' on a Mac?  I have a client that sends images in XLS files, that normally in Word I would Alt Click and 'save as...'
I was trying to stop using Word but this simple little feature will make all the difference.
Can anyone point me in the right direction.
    Thanks,
    Dave

    Hi Wayne,
Thank you for your response.  Sadly if you do this it copies in to the MACs clipboard as a snap shot of the image at the dimensions in Numbers.
    Eg.
An image I've extracted from the document via Excel saved out at it's original dimensions 1024 x 300px, even though it was placed, then scaled down to 300px wide on the sheet.
Same image copied then pasted in to an image editor (as I couldn't paste into finder) was only 300px wide.
The feature I need is to be able to save out the original image placed in the Numbers sheet.
    Anyone with ideas on this?

  • How can I extract images from a keynote presentation?

Keynote itself sometimes provides images - for example, the cover of a book in the Leather Book theme. How can I extract this image in order to manipulate it? I saw an answer that seemed to help, which was to ensure that the keynote file was saved as a package - but there doesn't seem a way to make this happen with an existing presentation, since there is no 'Save As' any more and duplication doesn't seem to hack it. I'm using MacOS Lion 10.7.5.
    TIA

I found a solution. In the Format area, select the "Image" tab. You should see the file name there. Click and hold the name and drag and drop it to your desktop (or anywhere else you want to save it). It worked perfectly for me. Hope it helps!

  • How can I extract images from .mov?

Here's my problem. I exported an album to a movie and now some of
my album images have disappeared. I know the images are still in iPhoto
[photos] but selecting them is going to be time consuming. Is there a method
in iPhoto or third party software to automate th e extraction?

No.  If you know the file name of the images you can search for them via the text search box at the bottom.  All you can do with the movies is to take a screenshot of the frame you need.  However, the image size will only be the size of the movie frame and only suitable for viewing at that size.

How can I convert documents from apple works to pages in OSX Mavericks? Harold

If you're using a version of Pages prior to 5.0, it can import AppleWorks 6 word processing documents directly. Otherwise, reopen them in AppleWorks and export them in a format that Pages can read; for Pages 5.0, those are listed here.

Thanks Steve. I should have mentioned that I’m still using CS6. Wonder if that’s the difference? All I get in the sidebar is Photo Booth which is useless.

  • Possible to extract documents from Apple Configurator device backup file?

We updated several student iPads via Apple Configurator. All went well except for 2 devices that came out of the refresh process with all the student data wiped from the device. I am afraid to check the device in and check it out again for fear of losing the original backup made prior to the restore. I can see the device backup files but have no idea how to work with them. Is it possible for me to extract the documents and photos the students need?

  • How can i delete images from iPhoto?

I can not delete images from iphoto. When I try to move pictures to the trash they do not move, and if I try to delete them by pressing "right click> Trash" they do not move! pretty much the only way I can delete pictures from iphoto is to delete the library.
Can anyone help me? I'm about to permanently delete iphoto from my macbook pro.
    it is nerve-wracking!

Where are you trying to move these photos from?  The following are the key combinations for moving from different entities in the library:
Deleting Photos from an iPhoto Library:
1 - from the Event or Photos mode: select the photo(s) and use the Delete key to move the photos to the trash bin. Then empty the iPhoto Trash bin as follows:
2 - from an album, smart album, book, slideshow, card, etc: select the photo(s) and use the key combination of Command+Option+Delete to move the photos to the trash bin.  Then empty the trash bin as above.
If none of the above work try this:  launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and check to see if the same problem persists. If the problem persists in the new library make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.
NOTE 2: In Lion and Mountain Lion the Library folder is now invisible. To make it permanently visible enter the following in the Terminal application window: chflags nohidden ~/Library and hit the Enter button - 10.7: Un-hide the User Library folder.

how can I stream audio from Apple TV 2 to Airport Express speakers.
I have LCD projector on one wall and connected ATV to it via HDMI.
Speakers on the other wall and connected to APXpress.

To be honest the times we've wanted to have music from more than one set of speakers, I've usually used my mac's iTunes library and controlled it either from the mac or from my phone, since they're not really the times we have any TV on anyway. I've tested AirTunes from the Apple TV but can't recall whether it worked with content from a streaming library.
Now I've got something to do.

  • Which is better? Extracting images from directories or from database?

    Good day,
I would like to start a discussion on extracting image (binary data) from a relational database. Although some might say that extracting image from directories is a better approach, I m still sceptic on that implementation.
My argument towards this is based on the reasonings below:
    1. Easier maintainence. - System Administrator can do backup from one place which is the database.
    2. High level of security - can anyone tell me how easy it is to hack into a database server?
    3. image is not dependent on file structure - no more worries about broken links because some one might mistakenly change the directory structure. If there needs to be a change, it will be handle efficiently by the database server.
The intention of my question is to find out :
    1. Why is taking image from a directory folder which resides on the web server is better than using the same approach from the database?
    2. How is this approach (taking image from directory) scalable if there is thousands of images and text that needs to be served?
If anybody would be kind enough to reply, I would be most grateful.
    Thank You.
    Regards
    hatta

Databases are typically more oriented towards text and number content than binary content, I believe. If you carry images in the database you will need to run them through your code and through your java server before they are displayed. If they are held in a directory they will be called from hrefs in the produced page, which means that they are served by your static server. This is quicker because no processing of the image is required. It also means the Database has to handle massively less data. Depending on the database this should be far quicker to query.
It is worth noting that it is also quite difficult to actually change mime-types on a page to display a picture in the midst of HTML- the number of enquiries on these pages about this topic should be enough to illustrate this.
If you give over controls of all the image file handling to your java system (which I do when I write sites like the one you describe) then the actual program knows where to put the images and automatically adds them to the database. The system administrator never needs to touch them. If they want a backup they save the database and the website directory. The second of those should be a standard administrative task anyway, so there is not a huge difference there. The danger of someone accidentally changing the directory structure is no greater than the danger of someone accidentally dropping a database table- it can be minimised by making sure your administrators are competent. Directory structures can be changed back, dropped tables are gone.
The security claim is slightly negated because you still have to run a webserver. Every program you run on your server is vulnerable to attack but if you are serving web pages you will have a server program that is faster than a database for image handling. You are far more at risk from running FTP or Telnet on your server or (worst of all) trying to maintain IIS.
The images in directory structure is more scalable because very large databases are more likely to become unstable and carrying a 50k image in every image field rather than 2 bytes of text will make the database roughly 25000 times larger. I have already mentioned the difference in serving methods which stands in favour of recycling images. A static site will be faster than a dynamic site of equivalent size, so where you can, take advantage of that.

Does anybody have an idea to solve the problem?

A scan from string function can be used as per the attachment. The double \ ('\\') is in the format string in order to interpret the '\' characters in your input string as literal characters and not special formatting.

  • Since update to 10.6.8 can't export images from powerpoint and also other programs

Ever since I updated my software to 10.6.8 I can't export images from Powerpoint or from a graphing software GraphPad Prism.  It's really frustrating.  I had no problems at all until this update. Is there any way to revert my version to the old OS 10.6?
I can't work when I can't put images into illustrator!
    Thanks, AOH

I just contacted Final Draft and they helped me with it. If you have FD and are going to upgrade an OS, Deactivate Final Draft first then re-activate it once the new OS is installed.
