Can I get links to automatically open in a new tab just by clicking on them?

I've selected the option to: "Open new windows in new tab instead" from the options menu. For some time this seemed to open any link I clicked on in a new tab. For some reason this feature is no longer working and new links clicked on simply overwrites the current tab with the new page. I liked the feature of having links open automatically in new tabs. The option remains selected but it does not seem to be working.

I just installed FF4 and can't get a bookmark to open in a new tab using right-button click and selecting open in a new tab.

actually, it's more complicated. It seems none of the right-button options work: Open, open in a new window, and open in a new tab.

Safe Mode worked. Turned off hardware acceleration and it work until the next boot up, then it didn't work anymore. Made sure hardware acceleration was still off and then disabled all apps and it worked again. One-by-one, I enabled apps until all apps were again enabled. It worked with each app added. Everything still works and hasn't stopped working through about 5 boot-ups.

How do I make it the default that when I click on a link it will open in a new tab?

Particularly when I am doing a Google search, but also when I am in a site, I find I frequently have to right click and force 'open in a new tab' to avoid the link overriding the current tab. I want to have all links I click on automatically open in a new tab. My settings are set to go to the new tab immediately - that works fine - but too often I have to immediately back-page and re-click using the right-click menu to avoid losing my search or origin page. This is annoying when there are several links I want to explore, and have to backtrack to get to them.
Firefox is my default browser, 29.0.1 at the moment, and it runs on an old Dell laptop using WinXP. Before asking this I did check the available support info without finding an answer. I followed the instructions in the article about Google and the about:config but it did no good - it still defaults to opening in the current tab. It might seem like a small thing but in my search for answers I saw some folks who have the reverse problem - they want links to open in the same tab - so clearly it is a settings issue. Otherwise, when you don't have a 3-button mouse or a scroll pad with "middle-click" functionality, you can use '''{Ctrl + Click}''' to open a hyperlink in a new Tab.

I like to have some tabs open at the same time. Then I have some items in the toolbar that a sometimes need to open. I would like them to automatically open in a new tab without closing any tabs I already have open. Can this be done? I do not know of any way to specify only some bookmarks to open in a new tab. You could middle-click on a bookmark to make it open in a new tab.

When there was support for Google Toolbar, I was able to do this; now, whenever I want to search for something, I have to open a new tab to do it, and cut-and-paste my search into the search field in the new tab. I used to be able to highlight, drag, and drop something into the search field and have it automatically open in a new tab. This is enough for me to switch to Chrome . . .

Google decided that they will no longer produce the Google Toolbar for Firefox 5 and newer version. It is best to move on to other alternatives than to try any "hacks" to the toolbar that may or may not perform in the future. Future versions of Google toolbar will only work with IE7-9. How can I get my Report to open on the fist tab always when file opened

I have one report with mutiples tabs, however I would like my file SWF/PDF to always open on the fist tab. Any ideas?

I believe the SWF will open to whichever tab you had active at the time you exported the dashboard. So if you want your SWF to always open to the first tab, just make sure that the first tab is the active tab when you export your dashboard to a SWF.

Strange behavior in the top link bar and open in a new tab

Hello,
I am having a strange behavior in the top link bar. Every element in the menu has the "open in a new tab"-option checked and is working fine but is not working at all in a sub site which inherit the menu.
I have look at the code thinking that the menu in the sub site did't get the target="_blank" but is there.
Anyone who knows what can be happening?

How can I force a popup to open in a new tab instead of opening a new window?

I want to keep any links that I click from opening a new window, ie. if I click on a link in an open tab that opens a new window, I want it to open in a new tab instead. I am on Firefox 5.0.

You can look at the browser.link.open_newwindow prefs on the about:config page.

To open the about:config page, type about:config in the location (address) bar and press the "Enter" key, just like you type the url of a website to open a website.

Clicking a search result from search bar goole seaech, always opening google home page but only can open search in new tab by middle click,really frustrating.

Whenever i am clicking search result from Google search bar, it always opens the Google home page. I can only open search result in new tab by double clicking. It started when i installed Firefox 12.

@mstm, please ensure that you write some thing in search bar before you click search icon. without entering anything will redirect to google.com. And make sure that you are clicking on search icon not home icon.

Still can't get PDF to automatically open in Adobe!!!

I have read a few other posts about people trying to get/or stop Adobe opening PDFs from safari but I can't seem to get my to open. I would like them to automatically open in Adobe so I can print them out but when i click on them they open in safari as an external link and I can only print a couple of pages. I have tried changing settings in adobe by changing Open with (on file info) to Adobe and changing all. But still when i open in safari they open in web browser. Even when i right click on PDF there is no option to open or download PDF!! When i look in internet plugins in finder there is nothing in the folder so I cant remove that!! Im so frustrated can you help!!!

If you want to download the pdf after it's loaded in the browser, place the cursor in the address bar text and press option+return - that should force it to download the file.

Each time I open Firefox, after a few minutes, everytime I try to open a link, click on a button, etc, it automatically opens that link or button in a new tab. Also, when I open a folder on my toolbar, that has subfolders in it, a window pops up that asks me if I want to open all the subfolders at once and that its going to take a while to do so. In firefox 3, when I middle clicked a link, it would open in a new tab for me to view later, but it wouldn't go directly to the tab; in firefox 4, it does. How do I get it to work like before?
