Can I get Microsoft Word on the Mac App Store?

I am most likely going to buy a new MacBook Pro with Retina Display 13 inch model and I keep wondering if I can get Microsoft Word on the Mac App Store or if I have to buy it in a separate package. If anyone could answer this that would he great. :)

Can't follow a link to the mac App Store

If I click on a link that will be taking me to the mac app store (not the itunes one) I end up at "install the app store..."
I have it installed, I can be logged in and still I cannot follow a link, I end up having to search for whatever I was aiming for manually.
All my software is up to date, my machine is a newish iMac.

I don't have one to hand, sorry, but I will see what I can find.

I click on the "view in the mac app store" and it takes me to http://www.apple.com/mac/app-store/?id=402352687 which for me is the Apple page describing the Mac App Store and advising me to download and install it.

How can I enable text selection in the Mac App Store?

Is there a defaults write string I can use in the Terminal to enable text selection in the Mac App Store, a la this command for Quick Look?

HT202159 Why can't I download anything from the Mac App Store?

I cannot update apps, or download Mountain Lion. It spent time downloading, supposedly, then after it was finished it said it was unable to do so. Tried it three times, same result.
Never experienced this before.

I need to clarify the problem:
software update returns:
The update could not be verified. It may have been corrupted during downloading. The update will be downloaded and checked again the next time that Software Update runs.
The Mac App Store update, download new, or resume returns:

Can't buy/download anything from the Mac App Store

Anyone has the problem of not being able to buy anything from the Mac App Store. It is extremely annoying. It does not show any error messages. When I click on the "Buy App" icon it does't go anywhere. its so annoying and disappointing. Tried it from two computers, mac pro and macbook pro.

Disable anti virus software and try turning off the Firewall in System Preferences > Security & Privacy.

I solved my problems of always working on her computer by buying my sweet wife a G5 and trashing her Dell. She is going to take a course at a college many miles from our home. I could not wean her from Word, but she is now a Mac Mail and Safari user. I purchased a version of Word when I purchased her G5. The Mac App Store was only introduced at the 10.6.6 update. As you need Snow Leopard before you can access the App Store, it's hardly going to be available there, is it?
You have to buy the retail Snow Leopard DVD. That is available from Apple stores or the Apple online store (as distinct from the App Store) for about $30.
It will also be available from Amazon.
The installer is 10.6.3, so you'll need to use the combo update to get to 10.6.8.

Why do you need to download a copy of the OS that is on your Mac. Use the recovery partition if you need to reinstall.
If you get another copy from the Mac App Store you will need to pay for it.

What aspect of Microsoft Office? Office is a suite of programs... Word, Excel, Powerpoint, etc.
You've got several potential options. Libre Office and Open Office (both googleable) are 'open source,' free, downloadable programmes that will open most MS Office programmes and perform many of the functions of MS Office. Might be an idea to have a look round for reviews (etc) first, to see if they sound like they'll match your needs.
If you're keen to use the App Store, there's Apple's own suite of programmes: Pages, Numbers and Keynote. They're a word processor, spreadsheet programme, and presentation-type programme with similar functions to Word, Excel and Powerpoint respectively. They're pretty good for most functions, and are better integrated with Macs than MS programmes. They're excellent programmes for what they do, and relatively cheap (about £14 each?).
But if you're heavily reliant on MS, want ALL the bells and whistles of MS, or need to regularly transfer files between MS programmes on other computers and your laptop / desktop computer, then they might not be the best of ideas. Keynote - IME - can have some difficulties in transferring formatting to Powerpoint.
Finally, there's MS Office Mac 2011. You can't download MS Office from the App Store, but can order the CDs from most online stores (including Apple's own store). It might be worth price hunting - if you're a student, you can usually find the programmes relatively cheap (£38 at the moment on Software4Students, though you'll need to belong to an academic institution / have a UK .ac email address). Apple's own prices on MS software are unlikely to be the best prices out there (though the product will be identical).
MS Office includes Word, Excel and Powerpoint in the basic version. The slightly more expensive version (which, I think, is the £38 one on S4S) includes Outlook. Which - IME - is far more of a nuisance than Apple's native Mail programme.
(I should probably add - I'm an academic. I own both Apple's own programmes, and MS Office 2011. I tend to use the MS programmes more, if only because they're the ones that other people tend to use, and transferring between Apple and MS programmes is a minor inconvenience. Pages also lacks Garamond, my favourite work font. The Apple progs are, however, far more beautifully integrated, and would be MORE than good enough for most users...)
